OK How the Heck did I miss this... I know I've been doing other stuff and to my shame I've not played a good game of SR since I left my crew in the UK 3 years ago... This is AWESOME news (not that I had to say as you already know that) I wait with baited breath and eager anticipation for this to become an eventuality. I might even be able to get back with my crew.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/13/shadowru...#comment-141253We got a better scoop here because primetide aka Jan Wagner rocks.
hell yeah - I do

...also, when we sent out the news first, we wanted to make sure we had at least talked to the fans a good while before spouting nonsense about our game.
aplogies in advance, though - with all the press and our own forum going kind of active now, I will be here less frequently.
if you do have a burning question on your mind, best to reach me there. I will come back here regularly, but I have got a lot on my hands at the moment. Which is actually good, as it means SRO is getting more traction...

Yeah but look what that has gotten the Minecraft folks. Every time something new is added to minecraft the forums get over run with people calling Notch a idiot who ruining "Their" game with stuff that "not" minecraft. The Shadowrun MMO team might be better off working on the game on their own rather then have to put up with that kind of crap.

And how is that an reason to not do it? That would happen regardless, I've seen it happen in countless forums - screenshot or interview with press releases to hype whatever game, those with time on their hands and an axe to grind with details out of context descend on the forum of their choice to let their fellow gamers in that forum know that it sucks or something.
Heck, you don't really have to look any further to see it happen than here, probably in a thread nearby.
Nah, if it provides them with the funding and feedback to make a better game, they should consider if it is within their means. The Indy Dev scene is doing it and not without good reason as pertains to how they had to get by while developing without the crowd sourced funding previously (see: starving artist).
Not to say the least, those arguments that over run where-ever are silly, by definition a Alpha/Beta is incomplete and so whatever form the game takes after something is added is it being closer to its true form - it seems to me it would be like calling a butterfly a ruination of a caterpillar, damn that cocoon patch.

I guess you got a point there,no one at Mojang seems to care that a few people are pissed off over the fact that minecraft will have potion crafting so if they can ignore self important trolls them I guess Cliffhanger Productions can do the same. Guess all those thread on the MC forums have made me a little cynical .

That is an easy one- yes, but you will be invisible and can only use the drone if your are sitting on its head. So, it may look to all the world as if you play a human, but you will know better

We will have a aprty system and will try to have guilds (crews) at launch, but this is tbd. Vehicle- we discussed smaller vehicles, but there movement speed makes it hard to fit them in. Otherwise you have a VERY slow car, which also does not make sense...however we are having ideas for further down the line...though a good bit further...

I figured vehicles were a long shot; I'm really looking forward to seeing this game mature after launch. Kids these days want all of their MMO features at launch, but I remember what WoW was like when it first came out, versus what it has now. MMOs are never totally finished, that's one of the awesome things about it. The game develops while you're playing it. I'm sure it's way too early to start asking questions about how the free-to-play model will work in this case, but when do you think we'll start seeing that kind of information trickle out?

Oct 26 2011, 04:12 PM
Bah, kids don't remember the days when you had to go to the STORE to get add-ons! Expansion Packs they were called!
Now you can just sit at home and get your DLC without the trip outside at all, and they still whine, "But the whole game isn't here!"

Eh. Additional content for an existing game, which you pay extra money to gain access to.
I'm not seeing a real meaningful difference here.
The physical delivery format is kinda unimportant, unless you're insisting on a hard copy rather than digital. But that's really a separate discussion of "buying a product versus buying a license".

Expansion Packs gave, usually, a new Campaign you could play. One that usually started after the Base Campaign was over.
So a DLC CAN be an Expansion-Pack, but more often than not . . it's just a bit more Gear, one or two bonus skins, one or MAYBE two bonus missions all in the same base game . .
No new Units, campaigns, Game-Mechanics . .
CanRay
Oct 27 2011, 05:36 PM
Ah, OK. Most of the DLC I buy have been for Fallout 3/New Vegas, so they all seemed like Expansion Packs to me.
There was one for New Vegas that was just new gear, but I liked the new gear.

Including one rifle that was cut from the game that I really wanted to play with when I saw the promotional pics.

Yah, the F³/F³NV DLC's came pretty close to expansion packs . .
Blade
Oct 28 2011, 07:59 AM
Expansions backs used to add a lot of contents to the game. Some of them were nearly new games with the same engine. For example, Alpha Centauri's expansion pack didn't add just 3 new factions and 2 new units but 7 factions and a ton of units, buildings, secrets, alien races, victory conditions and so on. Compare this to the DLC for Civ 5...

I would be interesting if it was possible to use skills out of the combat.
Eg: in the "map screen", the team´s Face could use social skills to get extra info on runs, bargain run payments, make new contacts, etc. The same goes for deckers/hackers - they could use hacking (or simply browsing) skills to get extra info on runs, or even affect future runs by softening site security, etc.
Is this doable ?
