Um, yeah.
This is a silly topic.
Since I've been biting my tounge for a while, here's why I don't like this thread:
Choosing "favorites" as it where, demeans the whole idea of a community where we all get to say what's on our mind. Sure there are some responses that we enjoy over others, but I am not sure how you can "respect" any one post over another since the ideas here are opinions or arguments over rules.
/rant off. |
The first post is an example of having nothing to add to a discussion and demeaning the topic. Several of the people I listed as "favorites" got there largely by rarely if ever doing such things.
Your second quoted post is a bit better, at least it explains your earlier attempt at derailing the topic. How can stating some posters you respect be demeaning to the community? Unless you mean to imply it demeans everyone not listed. Anyone can say what's on their mind, and too often the majority of us do it foolishly, poorly, erroneaously, tactlessly, tastelessly, etc..
This wasn't to single out one post over another, but posters who consistently express their ideas, opinions and arguements well. Who are helpful. Who you respect for whatever reason. Maybe you can count on them to usually be right. Maybe they changed your mind about something with a convincing explanation. Maybe they offer assisstance no matter how silly an idea may seem. Maybe they refrain from trolling and flaming.
If you see it as choosing favorite posters in the guise of respected posters it is silly. I see it more like if you met the person in the flesh, you would want to shake their hand.

It would take more than one silly rant on one thread to lay claim to least respected.
The Grifter..... The Grifter.....Nope, hardly even memorable. I don't even dare speak the name of my least respected Dumpshocker for fear he will return from whatever hell he has been relegated to (and probably ruling).
C.E. Shh!!! Utter not that name aloud!
Now "feel sorriest for", I know exactly who would get my vote. I almost said something at one point because it reminded me of all the kids picking on the short bus rider.

IMO, topics like this remind me of employees who constantly tell the boss how great he is. Bleh, I get enough of that at work without having to sludge through it here.

Null vote here. the way I see things there's not a single person that I respect the most. Respect doesn't have a number value with me. I respect everyone equally, with same respect I am treated.

No everyone could take that sort of thing in good humor and it would get nasty!

I'd dare to make a list: the ten people who donated the most to Dumpshock (I'd also allow to count money donated to wikipedia, this thing is too damn useful). I promised myself to say Rob to give my second pay as a freelancer to Dumpshock instead. Too bad my new job don't leave me the time to do such freelancing anymore, erk.

Now
there is a life goal, ladies and gentleman. I make it a rule to try and piss at least one person off each day - makes my life complete.
I don't really understand why so many people have their knickers in a twist about this - it's a bit of harmless fun, really, and we (as productive members of our global societies) make choices and play favourites each day.
Every time you vote, for example.
A more "pun" -ish way of titling the thread, I suppose, would have been "Who would be on your shortlist for Dumpshock Prom-King/Queen; President or Prime Minister (delete as desired).
Just a thought.

Well I remember making a coment about the top ten on here and I said Fortune was in the top ten I alsoi likeed Dr Funkenstein I like Shockwave lets do it like this in no particular order
1.Shockwave
2.Fortune
3.Dr Funkenstien
4.hahnsoo
5.Req
6.torzzzzz
7.Crimson Jack
8.To be aquired
9.To be aquired
10.To be aquired
Why these people? because they contribute with intelligence and in most cases objectivness and friendlieness, now that is not to say I dont respect anyone else but these 7 mostly, I would say my list should only be 5 long but torzzzzz and Crimson has impressed me the last for threads Ive looked at.
I notice no one really has answered the question. I also would be supprised to see tisoz on any list as I only see sarcasam and rudeness from you not to mention you post your threads with an air of higher then mighty attitude you dont like someones ideas not only do you try shoot them down you shoot the person down for being so 'stupid'. Now what ever youve ever said to me aside Ive seen how you speak to others and well hey you know what you are so does everyone else.Cant wait for the mature adult like response......

Torzzzzz is certainly on the list, maoinly because since she joined i think she`s replied to almost everything i`ve read. (And i read a heck of alot on here despite not having a high post count). And of course she`s in Wales (we really have that many DS`ers from Cymru on here Drain Brain???.)
Ancient History for probably the same reason everyone else has him (anyone notice he hasnt refuted the Mega Monkey thing? and i`d thought i`d seen it all with the local Funky Monkey)
Rakshasa because he`s our resident 60+ gamer, and he`s from the UK (yeh, i`m biased) and i`m shocked he didnt get a mention for that single purely cool fact. Shame on you all.
and..and..and. Heck i get a kick out of what most of the regulars post one way or another. I cant do a top ten just a top most of the DS community.

Hi, Tony here - Rakshasa's son.
I'm sad to say that dad no longer has the bragging rights to oldest DSer - he passed away today at about 2pm, we think from a heart attack.
I'd like to thank you, though, Moirdryd, for what you said - he saw your post a few days ago and was very touched by it, so I thought you deserved my thanks - thanks for making my dad smile.
Also, to any other Dumpshockers out there who may have had discourse with him... this was his start page and although he wasn't so hot on the rules he really liked it here.
Thanks to you all.

It's funny. Not funny ha-ha, just... I've known Dave McEwen - Tony's dad - through forum games for a few years now. We were both - all three in fact - part of a Star Trek simming fleet. I remember thinking how cool it was that Tony's dad was playing RPG's with his son. And Dave was a cool guy, frankly. I've met some idiots on forums and games, and I've met some decent people as well, and I can honestly say Tony and Dave fall into the category of being cheerfully offered crashspace at my place any time they were passing.
I know I said it one the PP Council boards, mate, but it bears repeating - I'm so very sorry, and if you need to talk at someone you know where to find me.
