Technically 2-3 years, but it was reflected in, at the least, the dates in Shadowtech.

Basicly; has there generally been a good concistancy in the shadowtalk posts? I never payed much attention to the names under the posts, so I wouldn´t know.

Yes, very much so. There's a short list of shadowtalk posters who have been well developed over the game's history, and and not only are their characterizations consistent, some have undergone character development. One example that springs to mind would be a certain Dr. Kristine Martin, who is no longer just a mouthpiece for the biotech corps, owing to the fact that she's separated from her former employers due to disagreement on a question of ethics.

If you like the whole KAM-Roxy story, maybe you should be watching for SoLA... wink.gif

Cap'n Chaos - For some reason I imagine him doing some sort of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" deal to see if there's a worthy successor. Whether there would be or not is another matter. wink.gif

Fastjack - Alive and bitter and clinging to his deck, muttering about young punks and the good old days.

Pax - Admin/Successor/Assistant to the Cap'n. Every great leader needs a big stick to wave around.

Dodger - Goes crazy without an AI to babysit, and becomes a villain in some adventure module (perhaps even as early as System Failure). In class Uber-NPC style, the PCs only watch as some other Uber-NPC puts him down. Possibly Pax. I dare the PCs to attack Pax in retaliation. wink.gif

Lofwyr - Uses the intermediate five years to solidify control over Europe, overcoming his recent setbacks. Because he's a badass that way.

Ghostwalker - Exerts more and more direct control over Denver, with the borders becoming little more than a formality for citizens and inconvenience for runners and smugglers. Sure, hopping a wall can get you away from the local authorities, but if you've done something to attract major attention, you'll find precious little sanctuary.

Daviar/Knight/Villiers - I like them competing for the top spot in the UCAS. I also like the idea of Daviar being the one to bite the dust. Dunkie's seven year plan would have run out by then, and without his help, she's lost her big edge over the competition. Knight as President of Ares and the UCAS could be quite interesting.

Celedyr - Oops, talk about betting on the wrong horse. He's trying desperately to refocus his operations, but what's done is gone. Aren't dragons supposed to have backup plans?

Harlequin - Goes away. Please, please go away. Far away, with all the other IEs. Please.

Ricky Ratboy - Used to make some of AH's metahuman foci.

Aztlan - Goes back to doing what they do best: making blood spirits.

Japan - Let's see an Emperor in power! Come oooooon, please? It'll be fun, promise!

China - How about Lung quietly subverting the various warlords to his influence, secretly ruling the country while it still appears completely broken apart?

Israel - Let's have them gone. In fact, how about the whole Middle East just wipes each other out? There's enough of this going on in real life, can I avoid this same political religion eternal conflict in my gaming?

That's all I can think of right now.

That was Dodger, not Fastjack.  He was using program carriers, to boot.

No, Crimsondude 2.0 called it right:
Fastjack slipped the chip-puller back into its slot in his microtronics tool kit, gave it a pat, and smiled. He had just finished repairing the telecom for Sally Tsung in record time.
Fastjack, the legendary decker, has just finished a task using his Electronics (B/R) Skill, which has a Rating of 7. The gamemaster had assigned a base time of 10 hours for the job, based on his assessment of the modifications Fastjack wanted to include and a Target Number of 4. The decker rolled successes with 4 of his 7 dice (10 / 4 = 2.5, which rounds to 3). He finishes the job in three hours.

-- p.68, SR2 Core Rulebook, example under the section Taking the Time

What you're thinking of is the short story "A Night on the Town," that opened the SR1 Core Book, which is not what we were talking about.

This'll be the first time we've had a jump of this size in the timeline. It's hard to say what kinds of life-shaking events any of the recognizable names will have in that period. It'd be cool if the authors slipped that sort of thing in.

Are you sure? What was the jump from 2nd to 3rd?

First Edition was relased in '89 and was set in 2050, 61 years in the future.
Second Edition was released in '92 and was set in 2053, 61 years in the future.
Third Edition was released in '98 and was set in 2060, 62 years in the future. The year 2059 was jumpped over with little fanfare.
Now we're looking at Fourth, due in '05 and set in 2070. Bigger jump than the one when 2nd transitioned to 3rd, big enough that they're coming up with metaplot for it.

Attack her? Shit, I'd give her a medal.

Yeah, Chinese curse interesting. I thought people didn't want a Cybergenerations ripoff. This screams ISA to me.

As I said, Dodger was used in quite a few examples, but I distinctly remember one non-Matrix example that included Fastjack. I wish I still had access to all my early books to confirm it though.

Thanks RunnerPaul. I knew it! I even got both the telecom and Sally right! biggrin.gif

I'm going to have to plead ignorance here. Don't know Cybergenerations, don't know ISA. Check my sig.

On dates:

The jump from SR2 to SR3 can be considered two ways: Core to new core and latest release to new core.

Core to new core is a jump of 7 years ('53-'60). Latest release to new core is 3 years ('57-'60).

So from latest release to new core, this is the biggest jump. Same as with core to new core.

In the Cybergenerations backstory, between CP2020 and CG, the U.S. was taken over by a corporate tool and the country eventually moved into a full corporate state (probably even worse than the UCAS) where whole states were bought by corps and incorporated as corps. Eventually the entire country was renamed the Incorporated States of America, and AFAIK the powers of the corps make SR's extraterritoriality and Business Recognition Accords seem downright normal.

Lofwyr really should take a final fall during these 5 years, and end up still being a power player but not the most powerful in the world. These little setbacks he's been experiencing are just the beginning, he set himself up for a fall by being too arrogant thinking he could piss off every other power in the world and not worry. Back in the fourth age when his biggest competitor in his territory was Alamaise (from what I can surmise at any rate), it was no problem for him to act like he was god. Now, trying to pull the same act on a global scale is insane. He's made too many powerful enemies and shown to many of his cards. The rest who have played a more subtle game should and hopefully will knock him down a few pegs.

As for Pax as Shadowlands sysadmin, no thanks. She's an annoying, evil bitch, and her penchant for getting involved in the physical world is going to end her up with a bullet through the head. She works as a great villain and plot piece to bring in the dissonance/resonance conflict, but bringing her into the main fold of the Shadowlands seems silly and not at all in her personality.

I can't see Damien Knight as really wanting the position of president, he already has so much power, that would just be dividing his attention to much, and raise his profile even higher. Doesn't seem like a good move for him.

I would love to see introductions to the sections in the core book by the old sig characters we all know and love. Fastjack introducing the new matrix (he's always lived on the cutting edge of computer technology, why would he cling to the old and outdated now?). Smiling Bandit discussing the changes in the cyber/bioware world in the last 5 years.

As far as the various other dragons go, Ghostwalker seems quite content rule his old turf, and while he'll compete with other powers, I don't think he'll expand his physical territory much. Reunifying the US seems very unlikely, he rules Denver absolutely, but would have trouble doing that to the whole US.

Hestaby will continue setting herself up as a new Dunklezahn, trying to get dragons and metahumanity to work and live together, acting as a liaison between the two.

Celedyr will be a fairly powerful player, he has a massive interest in the WMI which from the sounds of it will form the basis of the new matrix. I don't know what your talking about him betting on the wrong horse.

I'm treating every reference to Pax as SL sysop as a joke, because otherwise it's just stupid (not to insult the stupid people out there).

I'd much rather have Haeffner still around if it's all the same to continue the legacy of the Telfon Imperial Presidency.

Why would Ghostwalker want reunification?

~J

Do we know what Ghostie and the DF were talking about in denver? Do we know why Big D wanted the reform the US? Do we know how look ghostie will stand having golden snout being the biggest dragon on the block?

So, reasons why ghostie would want reunification.. Well power. All dragons seem to like power. Maybe he was givin big D's plans, and is going about some them in a diffrent way? Like I said before, Ghost Walker seems to dislikes old golden snout, and may want to make a(nother) power base that would keep more power out of the other dragon's hands?
Kagetenshi
Reunification does not bring power to Ghostwalker. Dragons are powerful beings, fragmented states are not powerful. Powerful beings against lots of not-powerful organizations can do a lot.
