the stigma of The Song Which Cannot And Must Not Be Named hangs over him--or me--like a cloud. a cloud of death, which is itself composed of other, smaller, more horrible death-clouds. |
I can understand that, and somewhat agree. It is because of that stigma though, that I was just amazed at his actual ability to sing a real and somewhat complex song extremely well, and in a non-Achy manner.
Mildly on-topic ... I'm sure a few people would like to use an auto-shotgun to demonstrate to him just what a real Achy-Breaky Heart feels like.

If you're hauling that, why not just go all the way and use a LMG?
For the Serbu Shorty, you said the foregrip had to be unfolded to cycle it. Is there some sort of internal mechanical reason, like a safety, 'cause otherwise it looks like you should be able to.
|
As I recall, the foregrip folds inwards and just gets in the way. Anyone who's actually hanlded one is free to correct me.

Because you don't get a -12 to TNs with a LMG, nor can you wipe out all enemies in a 24-meter-wide sector in one Combat Phase with a LMG.
QUOTE (Vuron) |
Hell when you factor in relative weight and cost a LMG with a gyro-mount becomes a much better investment for the vast majority of situations. |
The combo I mentioned before, SPAS-22 /w Cyber-Choke, Rangefinder, Foregrip and Gas Vent-4, costs 2,350

and weighs 5.35kg empty.
The cheapest LMG, the Ingram Valiant, decked out with integral Smartlink-2, a Deluxe Gyromount, Rangefinder, and the basic GV-2 replaced with a GV-4 (the cheapest way to get 10 points of RC on it) costs 9,400

and weighs over 17kg empty -- while wearing the gyromount, it also cuts your available Combat Pool in half and causes a lot of other penalties. Also, unlike the SPAS-22, it cannot be hidden anywhere, nor does it provide the all-important -12 TN.
QUOTE (Vuron) |
When you start getting into that level you might as well add some range onto the package because you have a big sign saying "Call in the High Threat Response team to shoot me right now" |
Not unless you show people the shotgun. Once you pull out a gun and start shooting people, the HTR is going to be called anyway, even if you're "just" armed with a semi-automatic shotgun or a SMG.
QUOTE (Nikoli) |
I don't have the books here and haven't bought the PDF's just yet, but can shotguns even mount muzzle-based accessories like gas-vent systems? |
In canon, yes they absolutely can. They are mentioned as having the same accessory slots open as Rifles, with the only exception that they cannot mount Silencers or Sound Suppressers (sr3.277).

You missed the heavy barrel and personalised grips or shock pad on the stock.

I thought they were able to to mount suppressors when firing slug rounds but not shot/flechette ones?

Ah, but heavy barrel is a design option. Everyone knows you can't, uh, put those on later. And shock pads can't go on folding stocks like the SPAS-22 has. And all of this makes sense. I promise.

I vaguely recall rules for suppressing shotgun somewhere, but I really don't remember.

Well, really I skipped on any further accessories on the SPAS-22 because Foregrip, Folding Stock and Gas Vent-4 are enough to deal with all the recoil you will ever have with that weapon.
The rule about shotguns not being able to mount Silencers and Sound Suppressers on page 277 of SR3 is quite explicit and does not say anything about any distinction between slugs and shot rounds. That doesn't mean contradicting or overriding rules are not mentioned elsewhere, though.

If I'm at all remembering correctly, rules for suppressing shotguns appeared in the Canon Companion at some point. Again, though, I'm really shaky on this.
