If it's a problem I'll tone it down, Thomas.
Kai's a streeter through and through and maybe knows too much about the facts of life, but if it's a problem I can play up other aspects of his personality instead.
I'm curious if I'm rolling the right number of dice myself, Slipshade
-- but at least if I'm erring, it's toward the low side. It's later that the higher numbers will be needed more.

Oh, no! Please don't misunderstand - Steve's straight-laced, obsessive-compulsive, and has dreams of elfin nobility - but he is male and has similar thoughts, just enough taste not to voice them.
As for the klepto thought - well, he IS an ex-security guard, and kids that don't outgrow that sort of thing typically end up in a life of crime.
Like shadowrunning. Still, his thoughts are molded by a career of working security.
Please, please play your character to the hilt - I enjoy it.

We're cool, then
Just wanted to make sure -- sometimes the only early signals come through in the roleplaying, and I didn't want to go into areas anyone wasn't comfortable with.
And the ex-security guard aspect is
definitely going to clash -- and I'll hope we both have fun in the clashing

Sedna,
As I am reading the cyber skates it says running equals Quickness*6 so for a person with 3 quickness gets 18 dice!!! That just doesn't seem right, very cool, but not right.
If that is the case, I would have....
[ Spoiler ]
Quickness = 11,11,09,05,05,05,05,04,04,03,03,03,03,03,02,02,01,01
Athletics(Skating) = 11,05,03,02,02

Is this a multiplier one, then? Because I have no idea what the canon multiplier would be for skateboard. One easy way around that, though
[ Spoiler ]
From the previous spoiler: (I) QU: 7, 5, 4, 1, 1
To that, add however many of the following rows are applicable (at -1 TN?):
(II) 4, 4, 2, 2, 1
(III) 7, 5, 4, 2, 1
(IV) 8, 4, 4, 4, 3
(V) 11, 4, 4, 1, 1
(VI) 14, 3, 2, 2, 2
DH - a ruling please?

I have done a little in line and a little Skateboarding in my life and I would think the Skateboard would have less of a modifier than the rollerblades. I used to get a bigger head of steam going on the skates than I did on the board. Just speaking from experience. I really doesn't matter to me who wins the race. We just need some style points.
Wanna come up with a few difficulty ratings for tricks.
or should we just call out the difficulty ourselves then see if we pull it off or crash and burn.

That's fine with me Sedna, besides it not always about who gets there first, its about who looks the best doing it, right.
It's all about Style over Substance.

Would you give Sedna and I the general layout of the place from the outside. I will put something up after that.
Thanks,

Apr 9 2005, 09:40 AM
I'd give the skateboard a modifier of 5 myself, simply because there's that intermittant period where you have to shift balance to pump up some extra speed. Bikes, for reference, I'd give a 7 or 8, depending on the quality, but skates and boards still have advantages, since you don't have to lock them up, or hump them up really large hills.
Now, for Mings... *gestures to the post* Sorry if it seemed I was gone, shift cycle gets odd at the end...
Sedna
Apr 10 2005, 07:01 PM
Understandable. I've had the all-over-the-place kinds of shifts myself.
Thanks for the skateboard modifiers -- and sometime when you have a chance, I'd really like to know the stat details of Kai's bicycle as well ...?
Back in-story: if there's a way up to the roof (probably in back, if there's an alleyway? fire escape ladder?), or finding an accessible (and listenable or seeable-through) window, Kai's going to scale it. Rooftops are a common place for street kids to find shelter anyway, so it shouldn't raise any alarms if he gets caught (although of course he'll try not to be).

Agreed, Slipshade. I've tried to write in a general intro to The Rest.
DH: could you give us the summary on what's noticeable from above and below, front and "back", including layout of the street itself and what buildings/booths/other structures can potentially be used for cover/concealment -- Athletics/Perception rolls for
Kai below -- and then I'll trust you, Slipshade, to write both of us over to the Shore?
That should hopefully speed things up.

Everyone,
Do to more time constraints at work I am being forced to drop a number of my games. Unfortunatly Emerald City Nights is going to be one of them. Good luck with the run I am sure things are going to pick up now that the meet is near.
My appologies to everyone,

Hate to see you go Slipshade, but RL coming first is understandable. If ever you want back in, I'll find a way to work it out.
Ok... basic outline of Ming's (the meet wasn't supposed to take long, as is my usual thing). The restaurant itself if open concept, seating being in a semi-indoors area on a porch, with the kitchen being further inside, as well as the facilities. Despite the nature of the market, it's a clean place, and the clientele seem calm. There's an apartment above the kitchen, and most of the roof is given over to a balcony for it.
Of the rest of the market, nothing is permanent. Some of the structures seem to last, but most of them actually look like they're taken down at night, or at least collapsed for more secure storage. There's no obvious cover, at least none that'd make for decent surveillence.
The closest buildings are secured or abandoned, and look like they may have decent vantage points, but anyone watching from them would be hard pressed to track someone through the ever-moving crowds.
Bastard

Per "The restaurant itself i[s] open concept, seating being in a semi-indoors area on a porch, with the kitchen being further inside, as well as the facilities ..."
Does this bring any part of the place under city spirit domain? Specifically, the table where the meet's going to take place?
In this context, Kai just summoned a city spirit (Force 3), which in-thread is going to come across as him spotting another streeter he knows. The player's intent is for backup support and a way of carrying messages. Kai's perspective is going to be "Hey, Liddy can take in a message to you guys!"

Sorry, did I screw everyone up? Hadn't meant to. Was trying to cut to the chase, since DH mentioned he doesn't usually spend much time on meet issues.
The discussion seemed to be that at least Viper and Johnson would go into the meet. Steve was okay with everyone going in, so long as at least one person stayed outside. Kai volunteered to stay outside, thinking that would make things easy. When communications questions were raised, Kai immediately thought he could ask one of his reliable "friends" to deliver messages. Glyph, if you haven't read the spoiler yet, if Viper assenses Liddy she'll get a surprise.
Glyph
Apr 21 2005, 05:08 AM
Yeah, I clicked on the spoiler, read enough to realize it was information for the GM, then decided it would be using OOC knowledge to have Viper suddenly decide to use astral perception. I'll go ahead and do that now, though, since we need to move the IC thread along, and it would be the logical thing for her to do if Kai pointed out someone like that.

Johnson: There doesn't seem to be anything amiss with the room, though in a place where you find all sorts, from all around the city, it's hard to tell for sure. There aren't any more overt bodyguards, though, at the guy looks like someone who would keep them close to him.
Glyph: Neither of the bodyguards are packing heavy cyberware, smartlinks at best, no full body mods. They're both a bit frustrated at the moment.
The Suit is releived that the meet is getting underway; he's in good health, and aside from a datajack and headware memory is cyber clean.
Alright everyone... good news first. I am no longer a shiftworker. Bad news is there's a chunk of May where I'm going to be outright gone (though I may be able to snake late night access). I'll be sailing for the better part of two weeks, but there is net access on ship, it just depends how freely my bosses let me use it.
And an administrative request. Could everyone toss me a copy of their character sheet, with any Karma you were awarded for character creation noted on it. My filing system until this point has been woeful, and to facilitate gaming, I've created a new addy: dhshadowrun(at)hotmail.com
Also, for those of you who wish it, my AIM is: Enigmatic Chicken

You know where to find my character sheet, DH. I'm seriously overhauling things, but that address won't change. Hadn't assigned karma yet, pending your answer to that earlier PM.
Basically,
Kai's just keeping the lookout, along with

Humm... Well, the pocket sec is in the left shirt pocket, the encrypted memory is in the left front pants pocket, along with a passcase containing 2 swipe cards, 30-80 nuyen in scrip and a Trauma slap patch. Right front pants pocket has some keys on a ring with the car remote and two credsticks, one certified and one gold. On his belt is a pouch with a pocket flashlight, pager, and cellphone. If you went low there's the hold-out pistol in an ankle holster above the left shoe, inner side.
Let me know what, if anything, Kai grabs - so Steve can react at the proper time.
(Not that he notices the theft, just for example Kai grabs keys - Steve notices when he approaches the car - no keys.)
GM call on success.
