Big Eyes Small Mouth. It's an Anime-based game. Adam could probably describe it best however, having worked for quite a while with the company that produces it, Guardians of Order.
Grinder
Oh thanks, that's enough. A friend of mine is deeply into anmies and he ourchased the game a while back. I don't like the whole japanese manga/anime style, so i didn't like the game either.
DrJest
Wow, you learn something new every day.

So, Adam... d20 BESM - WHY?!?!!?! nyahnyah.gif

And no, I have nothing against anime catgirls - just, as the man says, in their proper place. And folks, Shadowrun just ain't their proper place smile.gif

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the same and 10 being a completely new system, how woudl you rate it?

Right now? About a 6.

Heh. Clever.

Right. If I wanted anime catgirls, I'd be playing BESM. Or possibly Cyberpunk - those bizarre body conversions from one of the chromebooks...

SURGE was a good idea, in my opinion, with a bad implementation. I fought the catgirl porn star with all my heart while we were working on YOTC. I think a force for unexpected change in the game is good, and I think the idea of a "second Awakening" is a good one, too. It's one of the few times I remember being really opposed to some of the ideas Mike was putting out.

That said, I think it's going to be more integrated into the game world, but the furry anime catgirls will not be turning up again anytime soon. Don't blame the implementation of something turn you off to the possibilities of the thing. Or just don't use SURGE.

Care to explain that comment? I admit that, since it's only 6:15 AM local time, I might still be a little groggy, but I think I'm probably taking it all wrong. (It's been my experience that "clever" used in that fashion is somewhat denigrating, if not insulting.)

EDIT: Oh, wait. Now it hits me. It's a 6. We use D6. Never mind; nothing to see here, move along.

That's not to say I don't think it's a nifty little game -- I've certainly had fun running it, and I think it's very unfortunate that it was released about the time d20 releases starting slipping in prestige.

There are a couple more books for it coming out soon, though: BESM d20 Monstrous Manual, and BESM d20 Advanced Magic [Written by David and Michelle Lyons, two names that should be familiar to most of the posters here.]

Too bad you haven't washed them in as long...

Oh and Adam, You need to be Crucified for BESM D20

I got yelled at and belittled by someone for suggesting a BESM game at my local gaming club.. They told me for 30 minutes how much that game sucks and reeks... then mentioned the word Level. When I asked them if they played BESM D20 they said yes and asked unaware of another version of BESM. The guyt had played one Session of BESM d20 and would not play BESM again. Needless to say, my BESM purchases can wait until I can convince my players to give it a shot (see where money grabbing gets ya?)

Um, there's something I feel should be noted.

Non-serious Threat of Personal Violence to People Who Know You RL -- funny. Or at least it can be. Depends on your delivery or the situation, but benefit of the doubt usually gives it a bit of humor.

Threat of Personal Violence to People Online Who Don't Know You -- not funny and possibly disturbing, at least in part because there's no good way to tell if it's not serious. Especially when it's not obvious you're joking around, and instead discussing something that actually does have some people upset.

I don't really think anyone intends to crucify Adam. Nor do I really think anyone intends to show up to the con to slap anyone else over SR4. Still, there's a lot of people who are really upset about this, and it becomes hard to weed out who might mean it and who doesn't. Remember these are real people on the other end of things who (by and large) Don't Know You Terribly Well, if at all. Keeping the threats of or allusions to physical violence over game stuff to a minimum is just generally a good idea.

Thanks.

So SURGE will still be around? Personally, I sit on the fence here. I do like the body sculpting in CP2020, and I do like the racism behind a second awakening. However, I don't like ANYTHING FASA did with SURGE. They made it feel too commonplace (with the catgirl porn star, and the club picture), but still too easy to spot (how do you recognize a changeling with funny skin and cat eyes when he's next to the 10 foot tall troll with blades coming out of his arms?)

And the table to determine what changes you underwent made little sense. It didn't support 'packages', like what the book description mentions (where people 'unevolved'). You were more likely to get cat ears and gills than cat ears and a tail, which is completely illogical.

Meh, could live without it. Could live with it in any form except what it is now (honestly, even if it required rolling a d20, I'd consider it an improvement.)
Kanada Ten
Keep in mind that SURGE happened, but doesn't happen as much anymore (not that it happened much to begin with). I expect phenotype genetech will allow one to buy SURGE effects, such as gills or some that were never mentioned.

The point of the analogy is this: You didn't change the old car. You bought a new car, and ditched the old one.

But you win anyway; you get your Shadowrun without the inconvenience of having all the things that make it Shadowrun.

The most intelligent thing uttered on this board since it's inception. IMO at least.
Fortune
I guess that says something about your standards of intelligence.

Probably being sarcastic, Fortune, or maybe ironic.

At least I hope. frown.gif biggrin.gif

I doubt that. But, since you feel the need to post inane comments let me add my own.

Could there be a less imaginative term that forsakes the glorious ancestry of SR slang?
Fortune
You probably should note that my 'inane' comment was neither negative nor positive, since I wasn't sure whether you were serious or not. That way you could take it however you wanted. wink.gif

Probably (like netrunner), but... glorious ancestry of SR slang?
Solstice
I mean it seems like the demise of the "decker" is keeping SR but doing away with all the things that made it feel like SR (at least to me). Hopefully this isn't a harbringer of other changes.

Are they going to call riggers "combat extraction chaufers"?

No, they'll probably call them Hackers. wink.gif biggrin.gif
Eyeless Blond
Vehicle Hackers, Drone Hackers, Building Hackers (CCSS), Social Hackers (Face), Thaumaturgical Hachers (mages), Thanatological Hackers (street sams biggrin.gif)... that's one thing I actually like about the term; it's generic enough that you can use it for a very versatile profession without sounding stupid. Substitute "Decker" in for any of those and it just sounds dumb.
SuperSpy
Hackers are the new Adepts?
Kanada Ten
What's the military calling drone soliders? Remote pilots?

I just reilized something.... the new Matrix may work a lot like a CCSS system... Maybe riggers arn't becoming deckers, but deckers become riggers...

So, I get to be crucified for a) a decision I didn't make [BESM d20 was announced a few months before I joined the company] and b) because this group of players is ignorant.

Catgirl pornstar? In Shadowrun? How did I miss that one?? j/k

Actually, here's a shocking admission: the thing I really liked about Shadowrun... were all the wires!

You know, in the wireless age, there's something romantic about a wire sticking out of your temple, running into your collar, down your sleeve, and into the gun holster at the hip. Inconvenient, but cool-looking.

I figure that with all this remote control and jamming, you really can't trust a wireless smartgun. Wires = no jamming, no hacking, no electronic warfare right? Hence, all the wires.

Wireless = static. And a radio transmitter under one's skin isn't the smartest idea, especially if it's in the cranium. But those are just excuses to make all the wires look cool on posters and artwork in the sourcebooks.

If Shadowrun goes wireless, it'll be a sad loss indeed.

Bring back the wires! Before it's too late. smile.gif
Kagetenshi
Strictly speaking, enough jamming will mess with wires too. Then again, most people call that an EMP.

That'd indeed be a very subtle method. wink.gif

Kinda akin to carpet bombing Downtown with aerosol bombs because of a runner trespassing. Sure, it'll get him allright.
MidnightGhost
Actually I think it would be safe to assume that some things will remain "wired". For one thing things like the smart gun are not going to just go away after the crash and will need rules. Also I think it would make sense if hackers/riggers still pluged to cars and such, after all one good ECM device and you get dumped. If rigging isn't "plugged in" anymore then I'm making a rigger and using the old cyber because that and a good ECM means I'm unstopable !
Tal
Hell, it's only five years in the future. There's no reason for all the old tech and cybered-to-the-gills sammies to drop off the face of the Earth.
