My name is David Mustaine and this is the story of my life.

I was born in the year 2036 in New York City to a rich family who had their hands in politics. Raised with the purpose of becoming a man of state gave me special tutors, care, and a safe environment to live in, and a goal. I had a life, a few girl friends, and at least two hours on Sunday to myself. Life was good and I knew it, but something was missing. I found that my parent’s goals were very different from my own. I wanted to make a difference in a very real way. I did not want to be some guy sitting in an office all day.

At the age of 15 my parents hopes of me becoming a magic user or an adept were shattered when it was discovered not only could I not use magic, but my body actively fought its effects. So instead of getting me magic training they sent me to a delta clinic to get some enhancements that would help me succeed in the real world. My own parents arranged for me to get Cerebral Booster L2, Sleep Regulator, Mnemonic Enhancer L3, Cultured Tailored Pheromones and Synaptic Accel L2. Most people would have found it disturbing that there own parents would dump more than half a million in order to try to improve their son like he was a computer. My parents just had my best interest at heart…at least that’s what they kept telling me.

After high school I got my parents to agree that a 4 year contract with the military would not only be good for me, but great for my record. The people love a person with military experience, I told them. They agreed and were very happy to see me taking a real interest in their plans for me.

Right after they signed the paperwork I left for training and learned that what I thought was strength, was nothing more that the illusion of strength. Basic training was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. 48% of my company washed out, 2% more and there would have been a formal inquiry on the matter.

After basic training I was sent to officer training. Now a lot of people say that officer training is much harder than basic, but after being there myself, I can tell you that they are not use to using there head and that’s the only reason they had problems. I sailed through officer training and was ready to go to MOS training in Electronics, I already knew a lot about the subject so my testing placed me in that MOS. That’s when I was approached and offered a different opportunity.

In basic training and officer training I was in the top three for firearm skill and aptitude test levels. They wanted me to agree to an 8-year contract and go to sniper school and place me on a special team. A lot of details were pending my agreement and my completion of my training. My parents would be more than a little upset about this, but in truth, I had no desire to leave. I was learning things that mattered, and I was gaining the skills to make a difference. I agreed and went to sniper school.

You think being a sniper would be a long hard road, but really it was not. It is a two-year school and any one with brains and the ability to sit and wait can do it. As soon as we got in, they installed every one with a Bata grade Smart Link 2. Other options were open to people but I was not big on heavy equipment in my body. My favorite part of sniper school was sitting in a tree for 8 hours waiting for my target. I know it was just training, but I had never had so much time to sit and think. It was amazing and really made me feel like I was free.

So now Basic Training was done, 3 months. Then I completed Officer Training, 6 months. Finally Sniper School, 2 years. Damn with all the time spent training its no wonder they want an 8-year contract. Then to top it off, in my free time I have been taking some extension courses in demolitions. I really very proud of my training, but I knew that my parents would not be ok with the 8 year contract. Luckily, I still have a year and 3 months to figure that out.

After completing sniper school I was sent to my duty station. I was placed with a team that ran special missions. Mostly we took out people who caused to much trouble or people who had it in for the USCA. My team was made up of some great people and in the 5 years we had together I felt closer to them than my own parents. Quin was our rigger, she was cold and calculated, but she loved the group more than her car, and that’s saying a lot. Jason, our mussel, was a troll with more mettle than flesh, but he never once hesitated to jump between me and live fire. Finally there was Harry, our adept. He was the calm logical one who hit things with his hands. Great guy, but he did not believe in showing any emotions.

Oh yes, my parents. I could not bring myself to tell them in person. So I sent a letter and moved on.

I agreed to an 8-year contract for a special assignment. This is what I want to do with my life.

I got confirmation they received the letter, but they never wrote back.

So time was ticking on my contract, three more months and I was sure I would be signing back up for another 8 years with these guys. That’s when things when bad.

We were on a mission, nothing special about the target or the mission. We normally don’t even know whom the targets are gunning for. Then it happened, I heard a shot and dropped just before my gun was hit with a sniper bullet. The team scrambled, we were the targets of another team. I had no idea why or how but that did not matter. We returned fire and in the process gave our position away to the enemy we were there to kill.

We concentrated fire on the enemy were could see to drive them back and give us time to get back, then an amazing double shot through the vehicle. The sniper fired a round designed to cause the ballistic glass to dissolve and then a second shot less than a second later right into the temple of Quin. Her brains splattered all over the wall of the vehicle and for a second the three of us stood in shock at what just happened. 5 years and we never lost any one.

Harry was the first to gain control of his senses, he pushed her body out of the seat and started to drive. Jason laid down heavy fire and I started radioing in what was going on. I requested extraction right before the signal was blocked. Then things go crazy, the sensors showed an incoming missile. I remember thinking, were the hell are we?

The missile struck the rear of the vehicle and flipped us onto our top. Harry was ejected from the vehicle and out of the corner of my eye I saw him hit with two shots from the sniper, one in the back and the other in the head. Jason picked up the mini gun and got ready to kick open the rear door, then we both heard the sensors going again, three more missiles heading right for us.

Jason dropped the gun and looked at me and said “Sorry Sir…” He then jumped on me and wrapped his body around me. The three missiles hit the vehicle and everything went black.

I woke up three days later, my vision was very different than I remembered, and I even had a display screen in my eyes. I sat up and then relaxed how much pain I was in. I was in a hospital, I saw military personal walking around with doctors so I figured it must be safe. I lied back down and called for the nurse. “Nurse, I need to speak to my CO.” The Nurse cam by and told me she would let them know I was awake.

I was debriefed and found out that I was extracted 12 minuets after the three missiles struck. My body was badly damaged but Jason’s body absorbed the blunt of the blast. They said they had to cut his corps off of me because it had fused to my armor. My team was destroyed and I would most likely be given discharge once I healed up. My eyes were also destroyed by the blast so they replaced them with cybernetic ones. Most of the scaring on my face was cleaned up with plastic surgery and I was expected to make a full recovery.

After a few months in the hospital when I was getting ready to be discharged a man in a suit approached me. He asked what I planed to do now that I was being discharged from the military. I told him I did not really have any plans. I figured I would try and contact my parents and maybe go back to school. He said that he had a job opening in a department of the government, I would be doing a lot of the same stuff I was doing, but at a much higher level with much more at stake. I asked what agency and he said that information could not be given until I agreed to the job and was given proper clearance. I told him I was not really interested in that life any more, so he left. On his way out, he left his card and said, “The USCA need you, I don’t think you are the type of person to turn your back on your country. You can call me when you are ready”

So two weeks later I called and signed up. The Bureau of Vital Statistics, Division 6 was my new place of employment. They set me up with a nice apartment and I was given more office jobs and minor assignments for the first year. They must have been waiting to make sure I did not suffer from any posttraumatic stress. In the time bumping around the labs and running little jobs I met a beautiful evlen women named Stacey. I remember thinking of what my parents would have said, they hated any one who was not human.

After two years we were married and had our first child. She already had a child from when she was younger, an elven girl named Alex. Our son was human and seemed to take after me quite a bit. I had a great life again, I was working in a job I loved, my wife agreed with my work and loved what she did, and we had a great family.

After a year, my wife confided in me that she had leaked info to the Draco Foundation. The info was scientific research data that they had requested. The paid her well for the data but more than that, she believed in the work. She said that she once met Dunkalzon long ago and wanted to do what she could to help out his legacy. So I helped her. Together we leaked out some critical research data that we had collected on sites or learned in our labs. If we were ever discovered it would most likely mean jail for the both of us, but still we continued.

Then December 2063 my wife was involved with a lab accident. The details were sealed, and my wife was dead. I took two weeks off and found a live in nanny, a sweet old elven women who speak 8 different tongs. The agency paid for her and requested I come back to work. I in turn requested to be assigned to a more active unit. I have been with that team for the last 6 months now. I have two kids at home, one of them is 2 ½ and the other is 9. I work because it helps me sleep better at night, I have not leaked anything more to the draco foundation because all the contacts were contacts my wife had. Now all I have are my kids and my team.
