Someone set us up the bomb!

Kinda what I expected that most people started SR fairly young.

However education level is much more objective than things like "are you above or belowe average intellegence". So the bias should be somewhat lower from that factor.

sarcastic.gif I guess universities no longer have admission guidelines? sarcastic.gif
sarcastic.gif I guess instructors automatically pass everyone? sarcastic.gif
sarcastic.gif I am guessing you figure the intelligent people all decided to forego higher education and a degree for some other type of certification as accepted by society as academic accomplishment? sarcastic.gif

No, not every intelligent person gets a degree, but few stupid people accomplish the act. Saying everyone with a degree is below average intelligence, or lower than society in general is degrading to everyone that put the effort into completing the achievement. Yes there are acceptions to general statements, but you are discussing poll results, and anyone who understands the least about statistics should tell you your statement is silly.

Then it was somewhat irrelevant to my original comment. If you can not read and comprehend a rule book, it is reasonable to correlate it to not being able to read and comprehend a textbook. "Book smarts" is helpful to earning a degree or understanding SR books.

I amsure there are some really intelligent 3rd world people who have never learned to read. I am not trying to say they have no intelligence, but they are hardly the demographic SR4 is aimed at. If you want to split hairs or start a strawman arguement, have at it. I am sure you understood what I meant, but are trying to defend your position that the rules are too cumbersome in SR3.
Taran
I started with GURPS at 5 (when my parents converted from AD&D). I picked up a copy of the SR3 main book at a con when I was 14 or 15, but my town was only big enough for one game so I admired the SR3 rules and resigned myself to the fact that I'd never get to play with them.

Then when I was 19, Kagetenshi dragged me in, and I got to play after all.

On preview: In Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond claims that tribesmen of New Guinea have an average IQ of 130. Apparently the tribesman life is hard on stupid people.
Supercilious
I envy you Taran (Kage would probably be a great GM, alas I will never know).

All kinds of life are hard on stupid people. But when being an idiot gets you eaten by a lion it speeds up the evolutionary process.
langolas
I started playing in the early 90's. Nearly didn't make it past my first game. Of course, that was due more to the GM than the game itself. He was horrible. I had some other friends show me how a real game of SR is and it quickly became my most fave game!
Overwatch
I was 16 at the time, SR1 had just hit the shelves, and I was reading gibson and playing D&D at the time. SR was the answer to everyone of my nerd interests. I've been an SR fanatic ever since.

Thankyou for providing an example of someone that isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Please move along.

18 and out the door!
Freshman year of college, SR1.

Had a regular game of SR2 by junior year.

Ditto...though GMing a regular campaign took less time...

Less time than playing, or you were in a regular game before your junior year?

I was a junior in HS for my first run ('90-'91). Bought the SR1 hard cover at walden books the very next day.
