Alright, that gets us in and armed. But what about the engagement? When and where does it go down?
grendel
Silence is an area effect spell, you don't have to worry about casting it on individuals. But we're not going to have shooters outside the elevator. Miho is an expert at melee combat, and she's the only one with enough stealth to be able to be inside the elevator at the same time. Konton and Carmen both have offensive magic, which is inherently silent. All we'd have to worry about is the exec sec team getting off unsilenced gunshots. Which won't happen if the ambush goes off and we drop them all in the first round. Leblanc can stop the elevator in between floors so there's no chance that the doors could be opened by the team to escape, or that there would be people standing outside the doors waiting for the elevator who would hear what's going on.

QUOTE
As for the Doc, I think if the Decker can control the security and the elevators we can just secure the parking garage and bring the elevator to us and with the rigger with a van with guns 3-4 people with guns outside the elevator and maybe one inside ether elevator and 1 on top the elevator, the Doc security wouldn't be inclined to start a gun fight 2/3 on 4-6 with the Doc in the Frye. Then we can drive them out of there and deal with the security somewhere else.

and maybe have the guy on the top of the elevator drom in a sleeping gas granade or have something already rigged up to release it when we know they are on then bring the elevator down to us and drive out.
Mister Juan
Neurostun grenade? Anyone?
Mister Juan
edit: deleted
grendel
We'll have to make sure to get antidote patches or binders if we plan on using chemicals. Not only for the team but also for our target.
Mister Juan
That and gas masks
grendel
Neurostun is inhalation and contact vectored, which means gas masks/respirators are ineffective unless combined with full-body chem sealed armor. Antidote patches and binders work to reduce the power of the toxin, enabling anyone exposed to resist the effects easier. We should also look into getting P4MO treatments for the team.
Mister Juan
Darn, I forgot that it also worked on contact. Well, I think that using chemical agents leaves too many unknown / unpredictable factors... and we don't need more of those.
Overwatch
What about combination flash/concusion grenades?
Sphynx
Once we get to that part (which seems a ways away since we're still on recon), Miho could probably disarm the guards first. Stealth includes picking of pockets and such, and Miho is pretty high up there. She could maybe even empty clips and replace them without being noticed (though that might be pushing things unless it's a more dramatic game being played).

Don't under-estimate the power of a magically advanced thief in the group....

And of course, she really is an extreme expert in melee. As cheesy as it sounds, she's ambidextrous and magically as well as physically enhanced for melee...

Not really sure what other strengths there are in the group, haven't seen any character sheets or anything, but thought maybe if I point out Miho's strengths, we could better plan...

Sphynx
Overwatch
I really like the idea of Miho being IN the elevator.. maybe spidermanning the ceiling, and cloaked like the predator. We stop the elevator between floors, With our group waiting on the floor which has acess to our targets legs and feet. We burn them down with spells from below, while Miho goes to work with her Nunchaku. We put a couple of "catchers" down the hall on the floor above, with silencers. In case any of the OpFor try climbing out and making a break for it.

Can Grendel or Leblanc jam all their communications during the attack?
Mister Juan
A regular jammer should do the trick... but I'm afraid it would crash up our communication gear also.
Qillin
Damn you people just try and try to make it more complicated don't you hehe
How about old-fashioned normal sleeping gas? Only need gas masks for that and Miho thou I’m sure her skills are up that this is an elevator and there aren't many/ slash that any places to hide. Thought even with an invis spell on her isn't that only work if the caster is in line of sight with the person he casts it on? And what’s all this about stopping the elevator in-between floors? Doesn’t that just make it allot harder for us to see the people then it is for them to escape onto a different floor. Oo yeah or we split up the team to put us on both floor and then it's just harder to get away faster and more likely that there will be some witnesses on 1 of the floors. I'm not trying to be harsh but it seems like you are trying to make this harder that it is.
Qillin
And don't forget that the Doc lady will be on the elevator with her guards too and we can't just spell up the whole elevator or gun it up either we have to make sure the Doc doesn't get hurt at all.
Overwatch
Two things...

One. stopping the elevator between floors doesn't make it any harder or easier for them to escape. if we open the elevator on one floor, their escape option is just different...THROUGH us. If we open up between floors, them getting out of the elevator, especially with the package will take much longer, as there will be climbing, crawling involved. Also, being on the lower floor looking up at them, give us good lines of site, and fire arcs, where as they'll have to crouch or fire blind to hit any of us.

Two. As for spelling/gunning up the elevator. My lethal spells are all single target. And unless the elevator is filled with female bodyguards matching the doctors description, i wont be geeking her by mistake. I also have an area effect stun everyone spell I can use to knock out the entire elevator if things go really really bad. I'm not sure what Carmen is packing, but I'm sure she has at least one single target combat spell. The rest of the team can equip gel rounds, and make called shots. Again minimizing the potential to harm the package.

And if say Raven or Marco is waiting at the end of the hall of the upper floor, with spirit concealment, and a suppressed assault rifle. People climbing out of the elevator will wish they hadn't.

I think stopping the elevator between floors is ideal. It provides us a barrel, in which we can shoot fish.
grendel
We're not opening the doors. We don't need to. All of our contact team will be inside or on top of the elevator. We stop the car between floors, Miho goes to work, supported by the two spell casters who are looking in from above. If we really want to be thorough, we don't even have to open the top maintenance hatch or anything, just drill a hole large enough for the spellcasters to see inside the elevator. It's a killing jar with no escape.
Qillin
Ok here is a probable we might run into.
Say we know the doc is up in her room and going to come down soon we get all ready and
Some other people from the Doc's floor just happen to be going down at the say time she is. So there are more people in the elevator then just the Doc and her guards.

And again where is Miho going to hind in an elevator? Yeah she can have invis on but an elevator is only so big and with Doc and lets say 2 guards they can easily have their backs against 3 different walls and the other wall has the door. Some one will most likely touch her. And having her above them doesn't work because that is where the light comes from in every elevator I’ve ever been in and even with invis light doesn't tend to go through people.
Mister Juan
Just a little logical thing throught my head: I take it we kill the lights once we stop the elevator
Overwatch
All of this will be much clearer once we get some real intel on the elevators, layout etc. and once we know what room's they'll be staying in and where the elevators are in relation to them. The route the take to the conference etc. If it turns out the elevator isn't feasible, then we can hit them in their room or whatever. For now we need more information, but the working plan is an elevator ambush.
Mister Juan
Yea, I know... just trying to kill time wink.gif
Overwatch
I'm not jumping on either of you I'm just pointing out that we may have problems with the plan, because we really don't have a set in stone plan yet. And that will be hard to do until we get solid intel on the elevator situation.

Now.. thats not to say that both of you don't have very good points. And we could in fact run into any of those problems, or need to figure out those contingency plans. In fact until Grendel posted, I had no idea we weren't opening doors, and that Konton would be playing "elevator action" in a working shaft.

As a side note, what's the common SR elevator like anyway? Is it maglev, cable driven, etc? Does any one know if that kind of thing has been written down anywhere?
Ecclesiastes
Ok guys, I'm back. Busy at work still, but I'll do what I can to keep up with things. I spent some time on the phone with Shadow yesterday and he brought me up to date. Right now, do you guys need anything from me?

Invisible people don't cast shadows. That would kind of defeat the purpose of invisibility, now wouldn't it? The only real threats are ultrasound vision and astral perception. It would be prudent to assume that the exec sec team is going to have at least one person capable of astral perception, at which point it might make sense to keep Miho on the roof of the elevator with the other two.

Also, no concussion grenades in the elevators. Overpressure will kill our target.

The security team is not going to let anyone else on the elevator with them. It's just common sense to have only security personnel plus the target on board in transit. Anyone else is a potential threat. Easier just to eliminate them from the get-go.

Ecclesiastes: if we could get the results of Leblanc's decking run, and any other supplemental information from the astral scan, that would be good. Other than that, we're about ready to mount up and head to the safehouse.
Ecclesiastes
Well, I figured that the decking stuff would be done from the safehouse, so I was waiting for you guys to move there and then Chris can get to work (being that it'll take several hours for him to do his thing and you likely don't want to sit in the hangar waiting).

Shadow already covered the Astral stuff, the building is warded, once you guys go inside you can get more.
Mister Juan
I guess it's up to my guy now wink.gif

I posted all the search operations Chris makes, and the timetable he follows. Yes, I know he goes for more than 20 hours.... I just haven't factored in the breaks and such. Unless someone can score him some "Long Haul", he'll have to take maybe... one 5 hours nap.
Ecclesiastes
What? No Sleep Regulator? What kind of Decker are you!?

with her on the roof wouldn't someone see them with astral perception anyway? I don't play magic users so not sure. but i thought that they could see through physical barriers. which would just let them know people are on the roof of the elevator. and with Miho on the roof why have the mages up there? if Miho has to open up the trap door to get down to them it will alert them and things might go bad with that.

As for the sec team not letting anyone on the elevator with them it sounds good and all but the Doc isn't the president or anything so i'm not sure they would take that many precautions. and I would think that her security "aka" body guards will be in plain cloths. thou most likely armored cloths and something underneath that wont show to much. And unless they are tipped off that someone is after her to harm her or anything like what we are doing i'd think that they have been with her for a long time and wont be fully alert and alittle at ease.

And going back to the base story this run came from the Doc only have 1 tale and he was easily drugged. thou i'm sure they will be more of a presents watching her i don't think they wouldn't let people on the elevator with her.

But this is all suspect till we get some real info on her and her guards and any tales she has and the layout of the hotel elevators and everything.

1) They can't see through physical barriers.

2) Don't go by that guy who was in the original story, because a) your character has no knowledge of that and b) things are different when she isn't at home for her husband to watch her closer.
grendel
More specifically, things that are opaque on the physical world are opaque on the astral world. Astral perception can 'see' in the dark, because it doesn't rely on physical illumination. But it cannot see through walls, or smoke, or dense foliage, or water, or even one-way mirrors because those things retain their structure in the astral plane. Astrally projecting characters can, however, move through objects which obstruct normal physical movement.
Overwatch
we can play the elevator by ear once we get more info. If the guards are the types to alow civilian ride alongs on the elevator, perhaps we can just have Miho ride along in plain cloths. If not we'll put her in the elevator in stealth mode. If there is a mage with them, we'll put her on top of the elevator with Carmen and Konton.

Also, we'll need real schematics of the physical elevator to figure out where trap doors, lights etc are.

Grendel good call on the over pressure...that would have been quite a screw up on my part. smile.gif

Mister Juan
There's also 6 things we should get for the doctor:
1-A tranq patch, in case she starts going shellsock
2-Maybe some gama-sopo in case she decides to simply resist us.
3-A cybeware scanner (to detect any cybeware that might give her position)
4-A bug detector (if she's bugged)
5-Some sort of bullet proof vest that is hardy, yet subtle (if we have to walk her out, just in case, I'd rather have her wearing some body armor... in case...
6-A simple jammer (if we don't have the time to scan her right away)
Mister Juan
Also.... what about the girl?
She's not going to come on her own accord. Her extraction is going to be a true kidnapping (and just that is about 15 years of hard time in Aztlan). The best way would be to simply nab her without anyone noticing. Like have her disappear from her room, during a field trip, anything.

I don't think that getting into the school will be too hard. As I was saying, if its an all girl school, Miho can get in as a student. Leblanc, also, if the school is mixed. Getting the crew inside as a repair crew or something should also be very easy.

But I really think we should just steal a large fire truck, call the school to scheduel a "fire practice" and nap the kid during the thing.
Overwatch
It just occurred to me. Removing the girl could be an even hotter extraction than taking the doctor...

But afterward we have a hundred miles of open terrain to cross before reaching our extraction point. And I DOUBT the Bison will fit on the Mini-sub. So are we going to be stealing a van, renting one in Monterrey or what?
grendel
Oh ye of little faith. The Bison has the full amphibious operations package. We will be taking both vehicles with us south of the border. Good idea on the cyberware scanner and bug scanner, both of those will come in handy. Not so much with the doctor, who's probably aware of any internal/external tracking device, but with the daughter much more so. Gamma-scopolamine is going to be a bit difficult to come by on such short notice. If either the doctor or her daughter decide to resist us, I recommend simply hitting with the flat of the blade until we're in a position where we can calmly explain to them what's going on.
Ecclesiastes

QUOTE (Overwatch)

Miho's been saying that the entire time. The mom isn't the problem. We don't need an elaborate elevator plan or anything. Grab her car when she's in it, take her in her room where we can remove the guards quietly and they could go a few hours un-noticed, etc, etc. There's a ton of ways to get the mom out cleanly. The entire planning should be around the daughter.

If she IS going on a field trip (that having been a given example) then planning on taking the mom the night before is the side effect. The important thing is that the mom is willing, the daughter is ignorant.

That's why I said at first to get the daughter first. If we fail on the first attempt, we can make another, especially if on our first attempt we're not seen. Ie: Taking her at a field trip, she raises a fuss, we 'act' it out as a mistaken identity or something so we can get a 2nd attempt.

I realize that we're not going to do the daughter first though, not sure the why's on that, but I get it. But ALL the planning, even if we are taking the mom first, should be around the daughter, when we secure the plan for the daughter, we get the mom to step into our vehicle 12 hours earlier and try to hide the fact to give us a larger window to work through.

Sphynx
Overwatch
Sphynx. I'm not saying that extracting the daughter is going to be any harder or easier than pulling out the mother. I don't have enough intel on either target yet to justify making a call there. However it has occurred to me that because we'll be in enemy territory, lifting a corporate asset, that there is a much better chance of us having to engage in a 100 mile running fire fight. And thats something that all the flexibility in the world wont make easier.

I agree also that the daughters extraction will take more planning. And once Leblanc gets his vector graphic hoop in gear, we can get started on that. cyber.gif essentially, we should have both runs fully planned out, with all needed assets in position before we move on the mother, that way our timing will be tight. It's like one 10+ hour run. Once we start the ball rolling, we'll have to be sharks. If we stop moving we die.

As for sedating the doctor and the kid, stun spells and a couple of tazer pistols should see to that without the need for anything fancy. She's a bio-something or other right? Working at an baby-Aztechnology bio corp. Lets avoid exposing her to chemicals of any kind. Just to be on the safe side. in fact I don't think I'd be adverse to hiring a shadow med-tech to look over both targets after we extract each of them.

Thoughts?
