Whether it still exists in the limited editon has no bearing on that statement.

Well...yes, it does, actually. The story never appeared after the index in any version of the non-limited SR book. Since the LE isn't an "older" book than the non-LE (they came out at the same time--the LE just sold out faster and wasn't reprinted) then your statement makes no sense.

I'm really not this anal, honest. I don't know what's gotten into me this morning. nyahnyah.gif

You seem to have spent more time with us here at the 'Shock over the past few days than usual—perhaps there might be more than correlation there? wink.gif

Whether it was in books of the same time period is also immaterial, as my statement only applies to books that are newer than the LE.

I'm also not this anal. Normally by this point I'd have just said something brilliant like "obviously you don't understand basic English, goodbye." wink.gif

i think what McMurray is trying to say is that as long as they don't put the short story in front of the TOC in Arsenal or Street Magic, everything's cool.
Synner
Then we should be cool. I don't think we're planning on having short stories as lead-ins on any of the upcoming books, although Rob has announced FanPro will be keeping the introductory vignette in each chapter format that was used in the core book as a means to introduce more setting-specific fiction and illustrate the contents of the chapter.

And nothing after the index either. Hiding the index is even worse then hiding the TOC.

BRING BACK SHADOWTALK

Especilly in the gear books
WyldKarde
That was something I really missed in the 3rd Ed gearbooks. They really added flavour to the equipment on offer. To this day I still remember the best line in 1st Edition Street Sam Catalog; "Great! Now I can flatten light ammo against body armour faster than ever before!"

And who can forget the response to the Hydraulic Jacks in Cybertech?

"Great, now I've got the set. Wired reflexes 3, Muscle replacement 3 and Leg jacks." - Kent

"So?" - Some decker

"So now I'm faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound." - Kent

I LOL'd, I really did. biggrin.gif

BRING BACK SHADOWTALK

All the recent sourcebooks have included liberal amounts of shadowtalk. The introduction of a core group of shadowtalkers will address some of the lack of personalization that came with Shadowland's open post system.

Sorry to say this is unlikely. FanPro is doing its best to cram all the material it can into just 4 additional rulebooks - for instance Arsenal has to compress all the material from Cannon Companion, the SOTAs, Rigger 3, the stuff littered through-out the Target books and of course some new stuff. Shadowtalk normally doubles the wordcount for a typical gear entry and there just isn't enough room.
ShadowDragon8685
Then maybe they should stick with the multibook format? Sure, a single "crunch book" may be handy, but without the fluff it's like a sandwich on unleavened bread where the only filling is mayonase.

Besides, the Shadowtalk in the gear sections is really useful for pointing out things that may not be properly put in a "crunchy" gear section. Like "X company makes Y item that is a knockoff", or whatever - this is the kind of thing that can lead-in DMs to Shadowruns.
WyldKarde
The 'never stiff a street doc' chatter in the Nephritic Screen entry springs to mind there. A runner tells the story of his chummer who stiffed Doc A, then had the Nephritic Screen installed by Doc B. Only it turns out the two docs know each other, so Doc B turned the screen up to maximum and the poor sap couldn't go more than 20 minutes between trips to the bathroom because the screen was set to high filter and kept filling up his bladder.

Now that's a great piece of inspiration for the more sadistic GM, or one who finds their characters have a tendancy to behave like this. It could even form a plot hook for a street level run for the team, trying to make amends to Doc A in the hope of getting the setting turned down to something more practical.

Let me put this another way:
Option 1 is betting on fans who've bought 13+ rulebooks under SR3 being willing to shell out for another 10+ focused rulebooks (with shadowtalk) - at something like 25$ USD a pop - just to catch up on all the toys already out there and some new 2070's tech.

Option 2 was streamlining all the core rules and gear into 4 hardcover books with a slightly higher price tag but containing everything you need to play. FanPro went for Option 2 with Street Magic, Arsenal, Augmentationand Unwired.

To use Arsenal as an example. FanPro's choice was between banking on people being willing to pay (in many cases, pay again) for 3+ separate books (150 page books) containing all the current variety of weapons, ammo, armor, drones, explosives and demolitions, vehicles, running gear, espionage gear, security gear, military gear, and a smattering of advanced rules, etc, (all with running shadowtalk) for 25$ each or presenting it all in one hardcover book.

This isn't to say the new corebooks won't contain a healthy dose of fiction and setting information, Rob Boyle mentioned at GenCon that Street Magic will be as much Awakenings as Magic in the Shadows.

That's good. Awakenings was one of my favorites. And I think a lot of people agree on that at least.

Tell Rob to make a decentlist of Loa, both rada and petro, this time
fistandantilus4.0
Hell yeah! The listing I've got, and the desctirition/definition of petro is just lacking it's just.... well it sucks. There's so much more and so much further down to go then just Petro. It's more like Rada>Petro>red eyes>zobop. I guess they jsut lumoed it all together for simplicity's sake.

Thank god this forum changed topic. Now on to important matters...

[insert old argument about how cramming books full of crunch and no photos of equipment is not desireable]

[insert old argument about how Shadowtalk was one of the "will never be forgotten" aspects of the legacy SR system and should be revived]

[insert old argument about how not all SR players have been playing since 1990, and that the new players are missing out on innovative legacy items like Shadowtalk, not to mention the one-item-one-photo approach of the legacy equipment books]

Aside: God bless the 1st Ed. Rigger Black Book. For without it no one would to this day know what a T-Bird looked like.

[insert old argument about simply adding more pages/print signatures as needed to comply with above arguments and that no one will give a frag about price increases... ask Hero Games]

Hm... I don't ever recall making a personal attack, but I guess when I comment about how awful a piece is that I want to burn my eyes out with lighter fluid, it may seem personal. But ... That's not really "personal" so much as being unable to differentiate between two completely different things, which is actually a pretty important ability to have if you're a writer.

Untitled Webfiction Never-Submission

I'm going to stay out of most of this from now on because I don't really want to get into further arguments with folks (it's not very productive as a whole), but I will say this: it really is too bad that you feel this way. I read your submission, and it could have been a serious contender. If you can get over your ill feelings, I invite you to submit something else.

If the metaplot ever needed that one figure who really shifted the course of an Oh-My-God-What-Happened Hearing (Clarke's term, from his novel), an Oliver North (who was, after all, my main inspiration) or a Richard Clarke, I've spent more than two years building one. I do think it does, btw. Ever since System Failure, everything I've done with that campaign, which has occupied 90% of all my effort with regard to SR, has been geared towards the image in the holo. And the reason I didn't identify her in the story was because I'm not that presumptuous to assume that just because I can create some runners doesn't mean I get to stick in my character as a metaplot NPC.

But as for another submission? I don't know. I just don't know.
