I take it you didn't like the Faces of Death movies then? One of tem had a scene with an asian family cutting up some live puppies to make their dinner.
emo samurai
NOOO NOT THE PUPPIES!

I never watched those movies. Were they awesome?

And I still liked the scene in Transmetropolitan where Spider throws a dude onto a puppy and declares he will eat it.
James McMurray
Eh, some thought so. They were basically just strung together footage of things dying in various gruesome methods. They were supposed to be real footage, but I doubt they were 100% true.

I can see that happen. In asia, they believe in serving/cooking up the animal as fresh as possible. I've been to the open air street market of Guanzhou (Canton), and the meat market section is almost indistinguishable from a pet market. The way they cook cat I've heard from my uncle over there is to have a boiling pot, and throw the cats in and hold down the lid. Yeah. eek.gif

NOT THE PUPPIES!!!

"Dude, he ate a puppy; I think he can eat a page."
-excerpt, Firehawk's Quotebook, in reference to a friend's (entirely different) quotebook, which had a page ripped out, save one scrap on the spine, which read (vertically): "I ATE THIS PAGE".

And yes, Karn actually ate a puppy. Live. When he was a kid.

Oh and after reading tha fully,I have a whole new respect for the fairness, and sanity, that is RIFTS

The "fairness and sanity" of RIFTS stems from the fact that he who has the highest numbered (read: most recently printed) expansion book for Rifts will have the biggest guns and the scariest equipment, so everyone who keeps up with the tech curve will be equally able to slaughter everything around them.

A data-point graph based on an average damage roll with whatever the most recent book includes as a "rifle" type weapon indicate that individual infantrymen will be capable of destroying the Sun with a short burst when the 39th RIFTS expansion comes out.

funny I did that analysis after somebody dared me to
the chart dips downward after WB 12 then tises again about WB 20
so it doesn't constantly rise

May 1st, 2006 (Revised for off-topicness)

What an awesome weekend! My mom and dad came to visit me on Saturday (as I said they would) and showered me with affection and presents. This means that I did not get to play SR, but oh well. On Saturday night, I had a chance to chat with K a bit. He showed me how he was expanding on his dice-rolling program: he's designing a user interface for it, and plans to add more functions, including the ability to do both sides of an Opposed Test simultaneously. I may have to get K to post the program up on DS once he's finished.

I had lots more off-topic stuff in this post, but I deleted it because people complained. If you really want to read about the off-topic stuff, then ask me for it via PM.
Ophis
Wow, that was so weirdly none shadowrun, Adam will probably just shake his head in puzzlement, but it make me think of the idea of a dumpshockblog as a way of handling the off topic stuff...
eidolon
Yeah. No offense FanGirl, but these boards aren't really the place for dear diary entries. You might want to stick to posting session reports. Livejournal entries paired with a link in your signature might be the best way to go if you'd still like to share stuff like this with DSers.

Glad you had a good weekend though.
FanGirl
Fine. I'll edit out the non-shadowy stuff.

... how did we get from talking about eating puppies being on-topic to talking about someone's dice-roller program being off-topic within a few posts of each other?
James McMurray
Silence you! That post is completely off-topic and will be reported to an admin.

Now, about those puppies...
PBTHHHHT
I have the tabasco sauce and grill, you supply the puppies. nyahnyah.gif

Puppies ... tastes like goat. Personally, I prefer peacocks.
emo samurai
Wait until I get ultra-puppies; they will kick your fucking ass.
James McMurray
But will they be tasty? I don't mind getting my ass kicked if there's a really god meal in it for me.
emo samurai
Only if you kick their asses, which you WON'T because they're AWESOME.
James McMurray
Huh? Why would I have to kick their asses. They're still just dogs. If you act nice to them while leading them to the butcher they'll lick your hand and wag their tail the whole way, looking up at you vacantly until the hammer hits the forehead.
emo samurai
They taste of steel because their muscles are of steel; no butcher's knife will cut them, no human's teeth will chew them.
Adam
Bring this thread back to SR, or let it die. Emo, James, you should really exchange IM information with each other.

There. Edited for fun. biggrin.gif

FanGirl, would you be mad if I started arranging the game so that Vranton could get foci for half-off? I have no idea how to make up the powergaming difference for a technomancer. They don't have foci; they have sprites and drones. Then again, I have an awesome idea for a rigger contact who'll help you with tech and you won't even need to learn any rigging skills yourself. You'll see. He will r0xx0rz. I'm reluctant to ask someone to be a dedicated rigger, but the A-Team possibilities are too awesome to allow you to ignore them. That's why I'm telling you this.

Any advice on how to make up the powergaming difference to K? Maybe awesomer bioware; yes, awesomer is a word. (No it isn't.)
FanGirl
I wouldn't be mad at all about G getting special benefits, especially not if it means that I get benefits as well. biggrin.gif But what shall I ask for? Hmm....

Got any ideas, chummers?
Kanada Ten
Extra contacts? Let her start building a wi-fi-tribe...

Or, make some kind of technomancer foci that grant similar bonuses - extra dice to sprites and forms? Perhaps they are some kind of nanite that helps clean the brain, maintain pathways, and so on, without causing essence loss?
emo samurai
Free complex forms? That could be a distinct possibility with the things you encounter.
Dranem
Though I wouldn't offer 'free' complex forms... Perhapse introducing her to a Free Sprite willing to teach her CFs... Maybe even one she can call on from time to time. (There have been stories in books of Free Sprits of Man and Free City Spirits befriending mages, why not Sprites befriending Technomancers?)
emo samurai
That's not really enough, though. She doesn't really have expenditures that could help her progress. She can't get cyberware, and there are no foci she could use. Even if I gave her rigging stuff on the cheap, she doesn't have the skills to pilot them and wouldn't until she'd spent about 500 karma. The issue here is really how to allow her to spend money in a way that makes her badass. Maybe she'll rely on autosofts and sprites like any other good technomancer.
Dranem
Not enough? I suggest you re-read the section on how Technomancers learn Complex Forms....

500 Karma required to learn the skills?!?! I don't think I want to know what rating you're putting those skills at to require that!

Besides, unless you're rigging the drone (and you can only rig one at a time), the drone or vehicle uses the pilot + autosoft to maneuver.

Give her some sort of data storage device to access information then load it up with Mapsofts, Knowsofts, Datasofts, Autosofts, Linguasofts... She can become you're one-person multi-media library with access to any information she wants with a simple thought, or control any drone on the planet regardless of what the drone comes with.
Don't forget targeting autosofts so that she can mod any drone with any weapon she likes. Then give her a squadron of drones and she will be feared by most, loved by those who can only dream to match her might.
James McMurray
What about cash for karma and a free spirit witht he wealth power? That should get her 500 karma fairly quickly. wink.gif
emo samurai
True... I'll be doing that. nuyen.gif 2500 for skills, nuyen.gif 5000 for stats. That way, skill groups will be a viable option as opposed to stat leveling. And even if she does rig or something, she won't be able to VR rig 90% of the time; she'll be too busy hacking things. I'll make sure she's busy. But she hasn't really shown a desire to rig that much, so I don't want her badassery to be based around something she didn't choose. I'm still having the rigger contact, though. She will laugh when the party's armored van drives up to a gang, pops open a panel, and wastes them with its dual drone miniguns.

I'm posting my idea for making her 73|-| 4vv350|\/|3 in the matrix on my campaign thread.

Fangirl, don't read it.
Kremlin KOA

SPend run karma on complex forms and stats
cash for karma for teh skills
emo samurai
I have an even awesomer idea. She will love it as much as it loves her.

Heh, heh, heh.
Ryu
Does she need more than vehicle skill and gunnery skill in order to rig? She should already be able to handle electronics, right?

And vehicles should still be able to eat cash quickly. Upgrades, repair&replacement...

Then there is the whole business of non-implanted gear.
emo samurai
True, but the thing is, I don't want her badassery to be based around something she's not interested in.
FanGirl
I was thinking about the prospect of merging the rigger contact with my pre-existing fixer contact, and I realized that I haven't told you about how I see my contacts! They're really wiz. biggrin.gif Check them out:

[ Spoiler ]

Another possibility is to give me an extra source of income from my part time job at the small independent music store. It wouldn't have to be much—maybe nuyen.gif 500 a week? I'll think about the other options that people have suggested as well.

"It loves her?" question.gif

Well, a unattached young lady who spends all her time in the Matrix is bound to be stalked at some point. . . .

You'll see... you'll see. It will be awesome. I have very definitely made up the powergaming difference.

It's a high-level free sprite inhabiting/controlling a mecha-shiva rig that's been cyber-implanted into a puppy, isn't it?
James McMurray

Who hunts the hunter... biggrin.gif

I don´t think awesomer is a word.

One way to improve the abilities of a technomancer via cash would be expensive server time. A configurable training ground so to speak.

Ju-whaa? question.gif

I can't read Emo's idea threads, so if that's what you're talking about. . . please don't. Talking about Emo's ideas in front of me will tempt me to read his idea threads, and if I do that things won't turn out well, because Emo has repeatedly threatened to do Bad Things to FanGirl if I try to find spoilers.

Having said that, I thought about the "cash for karma" possibility and I must admit that it bothers me a little. Firstly, I can't think of an IC reason why I should get this advantage while the other characters shouldn't. Secondly, FanGirl is saving up for retirement and therefore isn't likely to take advantage of that. . . umm. . . advantage. indifferent.gif Yeah.

Boy, I'm not being very helpful, am I? smile.gif Here's a wishlist of stuff that I intend to buy that I probably won't be able to get while looting the mall, listed in order of priority:

[ Spoiler ]

Is this any help?

EDIT: Does anyone have anything to say about my contacts?
emo samurai
Everyone gets cash-for-karma; it just hasn't come up yet. And you could pick up a comlink and games at the MCT store easily. The Evo place has basic medkits and trauma patches, so don't worry about that.
stevebugge
Ok Fangirl one to add to the wishlist:

An MCT Rotodrone, with a weapons mount and a Sniper Rifle and as high rated Sensors, Clearsight and Sharpshooter programs as you can get, because quite frankly there are just too many good uses for a remote airborn sniper platform.
FanGirl
Just think of the fun at parties! smile.gif

You said that we could get everything we could carry. There's only so much I can pick up with a Strength of 2, you know.

Actually for parties we recommend the use of a shotgun, mostly for the beer tie in.

IC reason touse Cash for Karma

Top Rated Training server time so 'Daddy' will be more likely to let you do the runs ya want to do
FanGirl
I'm sorry, but the idea of a woman or girl calling a man "Daddy" when he's not actually her father is just very creepy to me. . . . *shudders*

I suppose I have Freud to thank for that. biggrin.gif

Getting back on topic: if everyone else gets the cash-for-karma deal, then I'm okay with it. I shall also add the rigger to my contact list as soon as Emo gives me the details about him, then add the Rotodrone to my wishlist.
emo samurai
"Daddy?" Huh?

And so on. I can see where Kremlin got "Daddy" from, but I still find it slightly icky.

Anyway, I really want you to read up about the contacts, Emo: you'll be the one role-playing them, so you have to look them over and approve of them before you have to start portraying them. You're gonna read up on them, right?
