I never watched those movies. Were they awesome?
And I still liked the scene in Transmetropolitan where Spider throws a dude onto a puppy and declares he will eat it.

Eh, some thought so. They were basically just strung together footage of things dying in various gruesome methods. They were supposed to be real footage, but I doubt they were 100% true.

I can see that happen. In asia, they believe in serving/cooking up the animal as fresh as possible. I've been to the open air street market of Guanzhou (Canton), and the meat market section is almost indistinguishable from a pet market. The way they cook cat I've heard from my uncle over there is to have a boiling pot, and throw the cats in and hold down the lid. Yeah.

"Dude, he ate a puppy; I think he can eat a page."
-excerpt, Firehawk's Quotebook, in reference to a friend's (entirely different) quotebook, which had a page ripped out, save one scrap on the spine, which read (vertically): "I ATE THIS PAGE".
And yes, Karn actually ate a puppy. Live. When he was a kid.

The "fairness and sanity" of RIFTS stems from the fact that he who has the highest numbered (read: most recently printed) expansion book for Rifts will have the biggest guns and the scariest equipment, so everyone who keeps up with the tech curve will be equally able to slaughter everything around them.
A data-point graph based on an average damage roll with whatever the most recent book includes as a "rifle" type weapon indicate that individual infantrymen will be capable of destroying the Sun with a short burst when the 39th RIFTS expansion comes out.

May 1st, 2006 (Revised for off-topicness)
What an awesome weekend! My mom and dad came to visit me on Saturday (as I said they would) and showered me with affection and presents. This means that I did not get to play SR, but oh well. On Saturday night, I had a chance to chat with K a bit. He showed me how he was expanding on his dice-rolling program: he's designing a user interface for it, and plans to add more functions, including the ability to do both sides of an Opposed Test simultaneously. I may have to get K to post the program up on DS once he's finished.
I had lots more off-topic stuff in this post, but I deleted it because people complained. If you really want to read about the off-topic stuff, then ask me for it via PM.

Yeah. No offense FanGirl, but these boards aren't really the place for dear diary entries. You might want to stick to posting session reports. Livejournal entries paired with a link in your signature might be the best way to go if you'd still like to share stuff like this with DSers.
Glad you had a good weekend though.

There. Edited for fun.

FanGirl, would you be mad if I started arranging the game so that Vranton could get foci for half-off? I have no idea how to make up the powergaming difference for a technomancer. They don't have foci; they have sprites and drones. Then again, I have an awesome idea for a rigger contact who'll help you with tech and you won't even need to learn any rigging skills yourself. You'll see. He will r0xx0rz. I'm reluctant to ask someone to be a dedicated rigger, but the A-Team possibilities are too awesome to allow you to ignore them. That's why I'm telling you this.
Any advice on how to make up the powergaming difference to K? Maybe awesomer bioware; yes, awesomer is a word. (No it isn't.)

Kanada Ten
May 3 2006, 02:32 AM
Extra contacts? Let her start building a wi-fi-tribe...
Or, make some kind of technomancer foci that grant similar bonuses - extra dice to sprites and forms? Perhaps they are some kind of nanite that helps clean the brain, maintain pathways, and so on, without causing essence loss?
emo samurai
May 3 2006, 03:22 AM
Free complex forms? That could be a distinct possibility with the things you encounter.
Dranem
May 3 2006, 07:39 AM
Though I wouldn't offer 'free' complex forms... Perhapse introducing her to a Free Sprite willing to teach her CFs... Maybe even one she can call on from time to time. (There have been stories in books of Free Sprits of Man and Free City Spirits befriending mages, why not Sprites befriending Technomancers?)
emo samurai
May 3 2006, 02:16 PM
That's not really enough, though. She doesn't really have expenditures that could help her progress. She can't get cyberware, and there are no foci she could use. Even if I gave her rigging stuff on the cheap, she doesn't have the skills to pilot them and wouldn't until she'd spent about 500 karma. The issue here is really how to allow her to spend money in a way that makes her badass. Maybe she'll rely on autosofts and sprites like any other good technomancer.
Dranem
May 3 2006, 03:17 PM
Not enough? I suggest you re-read the section on how Technomancers learn Complex Forms....
500 Karma required to learn the skills?!?! I don't think I want to know what rating you're putting those skills at to require that!
Besides, unless you're rigging the drone (and you can only rig one at a time), the drone or vehicle uses the pilot + autosoft to maneuver.
Give her some sort of data storage device to access information then load it up with Mapsofts, Knowsofts, Datasofts, Autosofts, Linguasofts... She can become you're one-person multi-media library with access to any information she wants with a simple thought, or control any drone on the planet regardless of what the drone comes with.
Don't forget targeting autosofts so that she can mod any drone with any weapon she likes. Then give her a squadron of drones and she will be feared by most, loved by those who can only dream to match her might.

What about cash for karma and a free spirit witht he wealth power? That should get her 500 karma fairly quickly.
emo samurai
May 3 2006, 04:19 PM
True... I'll be doing that.

2500 for skills,

5000 for stats. That way, skill groups will be a viable option as opposed to stat leveling. And even if she does rig or something, she won't be able to VR rig 90% of the time; she'll be too busy hacking things. I'll make sure she's busy. But she hasn't really shown a desire to rig that much, so I don't want her badassery to be based around something she didn't choose. I'm still having the rigger contact, though. She will laugh when the party's armored van drives up to a gang, pops open a panel, and wastes them with its dual drone miniguns.
I'm posting my idea for making her 73|-| 4vv350|\/|3 in the matrix on my campaign thread.

And vehicles should still be able to eat cash quickly. Upgrades, repair&replacement...
Then there is the whole business of non-implanted gear.

Mackie MesserMackie is a human fixer in his mid-forties, as well as Fanny’s mentor and father figure. He was a runner in his younger days, but having lost much of his youthful vitality, he’s retired to the more sedentary life of a fixer. He doesn’t have that many connections (many of the people he knew as a runner are either dead or in the joint), but he’s got plenty of know-how to make up for that. He’s been supervising Fanny’s “training” in shadowy methods over the past three years or so.
Messer loves Fanny as if she were his own daughter, and his desire to help Fanny achieve her goals is constantly warring with his instinct to protect her from all the bad things out there. He’s always hesitant to assign her the riskier jobs she wants to take: even though he knows intellectually that she can most likely handle them, the niggling doubts that “something might happen to her” often give him pause. Fanny is sometimes frustrated by Messer’s protectiveness—“I’m not a child, Mackie!” she’ll remind him—but she usually defers to his superior expertise.
Anne BavardeAnne Bavarde is a gossip blogger and an acquaintance of Fanny. In the Matrix, she’s known as an insightful and penetrating reporter—if you hear about someone rich and/or famous getting into some kind of embarrassment or scandal, Bavarde is very likely the one who broke the story. Bavarde is actually a Matrix persona of a famous elven corp princess named Ana. (I haven’t decided on a last name for her yet, but I definitely want her first name to be Ana.

) Ana is basically a 2070s equivalent of Paris Hilton, except her ditzy antics belie the fact that she’s actually an intelligent person. However, she fears that people will reject her if she reveals her braininess, so she conceals it by pretending to be stupid and vacuous. Only in the anonymity of the Matrix does Ana let her true brilliance shine as “Anne.”
Ana is terrified of the prospect of some clever hacker figuring out her secret and revealing it to the public, so she’s hired several code-slingers to design IC and stealth devices to keep it just that: a secret. Fanny just happens to be one of these code-slingers, helping to boost Ana’s spoof and stealth programs
sub rosa and
pro bono—after all, if Anne Bavarde can't reveal the truth, then who will?
Got any questions or comments?
Another possibility is to give me an extra source of income from my part time job at the small independent music store. It wouldn't have to be much—maybe

500 a week? I'll think about the other options that people have suggested as well.

I can't read Emo's idea threads, so if that's what you're talking about. . . please don't. Talking about Emo's ideas in front of me will tempt me to read his idea threads, and if I do that things won't turn out well, because Emo has repeatedly threatened to do Bad Things to FanGirl if I try to find spoilers.
Having said that, I thought about the "cash for karma" possibility and I must admit that it bothers me a little. Firstly, I can't think of an IC reason why I should get this advantage while the other characters shouldn't. Secondly, FanGirl is saving up for retirement and therefore isn't likely to take advantage of that. . . umm. . . advantage.

Yeah.
Boy, I'm not being very helpful, am I?

Here's a wishlist of stuff that I intend to buy that I probably won't be able to get while looting the mall, listed in order of priority:
[ Spoiler ]
Novatech Airware with Iris Orb OS ($2,250)--a regular commlink, used for legit business in order to confuse the feds.
Programs—Edit 3, Analyze 3, Browse 3 ($450)--regular programs for the regular commlink.
More taser darts ($50/set)--No such thing as too much ammo.
More Fake SINs ($1000*Rating)--Also no such thing as too many SINs.
More stim patches ($25*Rating)--Threading and cybercombat mean damage, and damage means pain modifiers. Pain modifiers are not something I need during a run.
Trauma patches ($500)--Don't you die on me!
Medkit refills ($50/refill)--Again, don't you die on me!
Low Lifestyle ($2000/Month)--Gotta pay the bills.
Group Hideout(s) (Low lifestyle apt.)--Someplace where the group can hole up until the heat dies down, which will be stocked with plenty of food, ammo, and other supplies. The cost of maintaining the hideout(s) would be split among the group, meaning that each of the four group members would have to shell out $500 a month per hideout.
VR games ($50/game)--more regular stuff for the regular commlink.
DocWagon Basic ($5,000/year)--Because dying would be a Bad Thing.
Is this any help?
EDIT: Does anyone have anything to say about my contacts?
