Will one elemental be enough or can we delay departure till the evening at least?

Cogar - I have no idea what sort of deal Patch and Avenger are going to come up with, or what time Raven can cast off, or what sort of boat he has, but in my personal OOC opinion -
* Your spirits will be worth their weight (?) in gold down in CFS
* It might be pretty hard to set up a magical lodge, depending on the boat
* The point Ginger and I made about getting on the boat ASAP was to prioritize that over everything we couldn't do in Seattle. Seems to me like the binding is better done in Seattle than down in CalFree. Anyway, it's only four more hours than Sebastian and Al are already ahead of Avenger and Patch.
Who knows? Maybe this Raven guy can't take off before eight hours anyway.
So my one vote out of five is to go ahead and take the four hours to bind the second spirit.
And don't forget to send my Y50 - I am totally tapped!!! (-:

Yeah, that's very true. But you could break it up, like you wanted, use the services of the first one, so it's gone, and then summon the other and use it's services. You'd just be useing them 1 at a time.
[edit]
I didn't see that this had gone over to the 11th page until after I posted. But you could still do that, or bind one, and just have it hangin' out, and have the other, unbound, and use it for what ever on the boat. That way you have one bound spirit, to hold in reserve, in case you really need it, and then you can just summon up other spirits as needed.

I don't have the coin on me... Patch does... or at least I assume that's what was in the pouch.
And I was setting him up

teamwork man! teamwork! offer a semi-low but fair sounding logical price... but then show him a coin that he might think is worth much more than what we're offering and voila! free trip! can't just show all your aces from the door!

May 27 2006, 02:08 AM
Hey - as long as we are on this digression -
Al certainly learned a lot about playing cards in the Shadowrunner League (believe me, the people he's been bamboozling at the poker table for the past 20 years did NOT have Sebastian's analytical capabilities). So he will have to specify some precautions in the future.
But as a general 6th world note - can we agree that by the 2050s the cards themselves are laminated in such a way that they cannot be seen THROUGH with any sort of cybereyes?
Divine Virus
May 27 2006, 02:47 AM
I would say so. And in casinos now the cards are probably placed under a high powered EMP to kill any stealth chips that may be implanted on the cards, and broadcasting what it is on a certain frequency.
Kiedo
May 27 2006, 04:26 AM
I'd even go as far as to say they have a polorized coating that prevents people from reading the cards out of the reflections of other people's eyes. Beacuse a dealer checking his hand jsut right and John Q. Cheater zooms in on his eyes, and bam, he knows exactly when to fold or raise.
Of course that's not to say lower quality cards don't exist.....
Divine Virus
May 27 2006, 05:49 AM
I think that people would wear matte(non-reflective sunglasses instead of having special cards. That seems more like a player's responability to me then the house's
Kiedo
May 27 2006, 06:01 AM
Well I was thinking in terms of Dealers.
But that's neither here nore there since by 2070, I'd imagine all major casinos like the Tangires, or Ceaser's Palace, would have no doubt switched to AR cards instead of real decks of cards.
adamu
May 27 2006, 06:14 AM
That might be true for the old retired types - witness how content they are just to push a button on their beloved slot machines now, rather than actually have to pull the crank.
But for REAL gamblers - don't underestimate the tremendous power of superstition. Also the tactile pleasure they receive from expertly handling the cards. Not to mention the idea that the 'cards don't lie' - too good/bad luck in an AR game will just get people screaming 'hack.'
So I definitely think you are right - for the tourists. But the real gamblers have been using the same cards for hundreds of years despite even today's innovations, and I think they'll keep doing so.
Anyway, just a fun side topic while we wait for other things to move along.
adamu
May 27 2006, 06:35 AM
Whoa, hate to be a naysayer two posts in a row, but I don't see anything about Smartlinks being able to track a target that the user can't keep track of with their own eyes. And even if it could, what if line of sight is broken, as when the shuffler holds two halves of the deck in his hands - he can easily fully screen them for a moment or two - once LOS is gone, how will the smartlink distinguish which card is which?
So, I guess you are using the SL for the weapon up your sleeve? Or if you have SL capability, can you route the sensor functions directly to your eyes?
Al will give the cards a good shuffle, making sure to break LOS for the whole deck, and lower his eyes while he does so. And Al won't try to keep track of the Ace himself, so he won't be able to give it away with a tell.
I'll roll my card tricks knowledge skill to make sure I know just how to really fully randomize the deck, and seriously lose a 'tracked' card among all the others.
Attribute + skill = seven dice
6 5 1 6 4 4 1 = 3 hits
Then I will do the shuffle, using Palming/Legerdemain
Attribute + skill + specialization + special bonus die (see sheet) = 6 dice
6 1 5 1 2 3 = 2 hits
Divine Virus
May 27 2006, 04:14 PM
Adam, for the OOC record, thats just Sebastian's sense of humor acting up, he doesn't really have anything with the smartlink. Likewise Sebastian's againt going to stand down from his bluff.
adamu
May 27 2006, 04:35 PM
Dude, I totally took you seriously. Sorry. I was, like, scouring the new SR4 smartlink rules - I can't say I've got them down very well yet - thinking you had worked out yet another cool and unique application for your cyberware. Definitely our first taste of humor from Sebastian! (In character, anyway. The sum effect from the outside looking in has been hilarious.) Right on.
Divine Virus
May 27 2006, 05:28 PM
Thanks. I don't know how you want to work drawing the card. They way its set up right now there is a 9.6% chance of drawing ace, or the ace being within 2 of the card that I drew. We could randomly generate a number between 1 and 10, and if its 10 I get the ace (about the same odds). Or one of us could draw the card from a well shuffled deck.
Any thoughts?

Well, his last post was time-date stamped May 24, about 8:30 am. That's over four full days ago in RL.
Now, there is going to come a day when I can't post for a few cycles, and I will hope people will be patient with me - that's a big part of why we are playing this medium - all busy with RL stuff and so on.
But I hope that if I ever am gone for that long, that people will just step over my actions and keep things moving. And if that is absolutely impossible, I hope Kiedo will step in and play my character for me.
You know, just enough so that other people aren't waiting on me. And only if I really am not heard of for two days or more.
That's just for me, though.
DV - as for our little wager - personally, I don't think all the intuition and logic in the world will help you track the card in those circumstances (and if you could, you got the same number of successes as me on the GM-suggested test, which gets us nowhere).
Since you are right that you have roughly a 1 in 10 chance, why don't you just grab a d10 or d20 and roll it. We'll go by whatever you get.
Kiedo
May 28 2006, 10:57 PM
To be completely accurate you'd need a 52 sided die, since your looking for one specific card, The Ace of Spades, from my understanding. Which means a 1 in 52 chance of getting it right.
But I try my best not to take over my player's characters, because I don't know them as well as you do, and don't think I can be true to them. Now if I have advanced notice, then that's another story, but just from a few days of not posting, nah, not really.
Besides it's memorial day weekend, party weekend.

Kiedo - more GM torture - You said any RL stuff I found applied, so I can do a lot by myself. Unfortunately, I cannot get a satellite image that zooms down to the structural level for the coordinate you gave us. Is this also Al's plight, or can he get something better? Or is there something better that would actually take some die rolling and all that?
Also - some things that should be very easy to find, but I can't get in RL -
- I have the general weather conditions for Scott Valley, but Al would like to get the weather forecast for that area for the next week 11/6-13/70.
- How about current news reports on hostilities in the region? How hot or cold is the war there right now? Any news on where particular battles are being fought?
More to come....
adamu
May 29 2006, 03:51 PM
Okay - few more questions - is there still great big microwave tower roughly at the coordinates we were given for Jewel?
How up to date is the info on Hestaby and her personal domain - right in the middle of the war zone (and next to or on top of the coordinates) - how up to date is the info in Dragons of the Sixth World? Are those Shadowland posts back up? Are the time-date stamps on the posts still in 2063, or have they been updated?
When Al digs up this Pythian Cave place at the coordinates - in RL it talks about various Americanized gnostic groups using it for rituals - when Al looks it up in 2070, does he find any more recent references, or do the references all stop in the 19th and 20th century?
Thanks, Adam.
Kiedo
May 29 2006, 08:36 PM
I can't find any structure level zooms of within 7 miles of the coordinates myself, I've been relying on Google Earth heavily for my planning of the run, and it's very fuzzy until you move about 7 miles north north west. I'd of course by making any information up that I give you for the exact site. So I guess Al can't get anything better than I can get with Google Earth.
Forecast for the week of 11.6.70 to 11.13.70 are as follows, normal yearly tempuratures, little percipitation until the latter part of the week were a snow storm is expected. Thursday through Monday, partly cloudy scattered snow, expected snowfall 1-4 centimeters. Tuesday through Thursday, Snow storm expected snowfall 15-30 centimeters, a red alert has been issued for Scott Valley and the surrounding areas to stay indoors.
War Report, the war has hit a cold spot due to the oncoming storm, with the Tir Military pulling back to north of the former Oregon line, and the CFS Military camping out in Mount Shasta. Little conflict is forecast between the two waring countries until the pass of the blizzard.
The tower is still there, but decommissioned.
Crappit, I forgot that Hestaby controlled about 60% of the conflict zone, but looking over DOTSW the info is as up to date as I care to have it.
I knew I shouldn't have told you it was okay for Al to know anything you could find. Oh well, the cave's history of Occult use stops Abruptly when Hestaby claims the reigion. But until then various groups use and control it.

Well, Actually I was thinking you only needed to roll once for each test. I had a plan for the map, but I'll have to adapt that now, it's my fault for not being specific enough. Sooo, this is what I'm going to do. To make the map you've created more than a bit of roleplaying fluff, I'm going to introduce some house rules to make it functional, this will also apply to mapsofts.
Using Maps
When a character uses a map to aid in navigation they add half the rating, rounded up, of the map to thier dice pool when rolling a navigation test. A three dimensional map adds it's full rating, but cannot be printed and must be accessed by commlink or technomancer. When using a 3 dimensional map, no bonus is awarded for running in hot sim mode.
Now you've rolled 18 hits for browse, 21 hits for analyze, and 45 hits for edit, I was going to just average the three round up and call that the map rating but that would give you a rating 28 map, and that's not realistic. So for sake of sanity we'll call your shiney new map, rating 6.

I'll tell you what, leave me a list, in a PM of anything you want done on the boat before you make landfall, that way depending on how far we get in your absence I won't have to "wing it" very much. Okay, to my earlier gear list, I add -
stocking cap
trode rig from Seb
hard copies of the maps I made
Now, Al is no hacker, but he knows his ways around computer hardware and software as well as anyone in 2070. Problem is, I don't. I am hopeless with computer in RL, but I don't want Al to come across that way, cuz he's not. So just to check if I've got this right - Al will use the trodes to access the map VR, but the sim module is on Sebastian's set up, and Al will essentially be accessing Seb"s PAN when he checks the map?
Okay - cleaning the rifle, per Kiedo"s earlier post.

In bag #2: Patch's medkit. The medkit he will get on the boat. Half the ration bars from the survival kit. If it will fit, electronics kit.
In his belt: GPS, flashlight, microflare launcher loaded with one flare.
