Our game is the opposite. We have:

1) Rigger with combat skills
2) Face with combat skills
3) Mage with combat skills
4) dual wielding pistoleer

One player is always the GM, and that person's character doesn't play that mission. With only three people at any one time (we hire a hacker if needbe) we can't really afford to over-specialize.

And besides, more play time is funner than being an absolute god in one area of shadowrunning. At least in our group. YMMV

I think our GM was beating players off with a stick and the way we planned our group we -still- didn't end up with a Hacker, so I scrapped my cyber-elf gunslinger and made us an info jockey.

90% of my shadowrunning experience is 1 to 1 GM/PC playing. So we have to have a level of general competance, Use NPC runners or super-specialize so we only deal with the one kind of thing, and kick arse at it.

That's why you cooperate with members of your team. Need to steal a Strato 9 to replace the one you lost? OK. Hey, otaku boy and tribe, play havoc with LS's comms systems while I steal their drones. I've seen the otaku get LS send the rigger a Citymaster as a Christmas present. And bugging is nice until you realise the rigger can disable those bugs and bugs cost money. The more bugs you bug the drone with, the more money you are giving to the rigger. Especially since he can use them. It is all about the numbers. If you are hyper specialised, the more likely you have better numbers than the LS rigger/decker.

That LS Rigger/Decker has a pretty damn good comlink, and he has access to Black Hammer and Lightsout at the highest rating (being that Lone Star invented both programs, and can copy it at will.)

Close, but not quite. It was originally called Jack Hammer for a reason, unless I very much misremember.
