Stealth (Astral would apply) and then tracking if Crash was not there, if he has the Search power, that could also work.

Stealth (really should have taken that skill):
[3,4] = 0 hits.
On the bright side, I was going to do the flushing thing anyway ;D
Tracking if he's not there:
[4,3,3,2,2,4,2,6] = 1 hit.
Bah, Edge that:
[4,4,6,6,4,6,1] = 3 more for a total of 4 hits. Much better.

Ok. How do I go about locating cameras in the area? Browse? Search? Trial by error?
BishopMcQ
Jul 23 2008, 05:39 AM
That depends on what you want. You can:
a) search for nodes nearby (just like wireless) and presuming the cameras aren't set as slaves they will accept an external signal,
b) search for nodes nearby (just like wireless) and if they are slaves, intercept the signal to watch but not edit.
c) browse the local matrix for businesses nearby that you think will have security cameras and hack the nodes directly,
d) trust that the enemy hacker has already done the work for you, find his connection and crash/subvert his subscriptions
If there was another idea or plan that you had, pitch it out to me. I'm sure we can figure out the mechanics behind what you are looking to do.

Ok, I think I'll do the following:
- Pull up a map of the area.
[3,1,6,4,5,3,5,5,2,6,6,4] = (6)
[1,3,5,5,5,4,5,4,6,5,1,5] = (7)
[6,4,2,3,6,3,1,3,5,4,3,1] = (3)
[2,2,6,2,3,1,5,1,3,5,3,2] = (3)
[5,6,2,2,2,4,5,4,6,1,3,6] = (5)- Flag all the local businesses onto the map.
[5,2,5,5,1,1,4,4,3] = (3)
[4,3,4,6,5,4,3,5,4] = (3)
[4,6,5,2,1,5,3,1,2] = (3)
[1,5,1,6,5,4,5,6,5] = (6)
[2,1,2,4,3,3,4,1,6] = (1)- Identify some most likely to have external security cameras. Parking lots, restaurants/delis/etc with tables on the street, apartment buildings.
- Hack the system on the fly for security access.
[2,5,3,2,1,3,2,2,1,1,5,6] = (3) [ 3 total ]
[1,3,4,4,4,2,5,3,3,6,6,2] = (3) [ 6 total ]
[5,2,5,6,6,6,4,2,6,3,5,1] = (7) [ 13 total ]
Stealth form is rating 6

I'm not sure if this spirit is the same kind that we faced before, or what the astral security is. I'm thinking the spirit IS the astral security.

Ok all I was talking with the boss man (McQuillan) and we both agreed that while the players for this thread rock (which I seriously believe) the format of this game is not working with us. It might be the free form nature of the run and that we all seem to be waiting for something. The GM from us and us from the GM with no progress being made but I refuse to let a game die especially since I have been trying (unsuccessfully so far) to be in one of McQuillan's games since I have enjoyed reading ones I wasn't in so here the proposal.
We start over and drop this bad karma/cursed mojo with a traditional 400 bp game with a format where the GM is pushing us along like a table top game. That way we stop flaying around and McQuillan is empowered to kick us in our rumps to move the game forward. It would be a good old fashioned SR game and I think after going through that process we'd jell more as a group and with the characters. We may even want to consider inviting/recruiting one more lonely soul into the mix.
Opinions/reactions?

I'm gonna have to be honest. I've lost count of the false start with you guys . I'd love to get a game going, but I'm really getting frustrated (with players, not McQ) trying.
So I will meet you half way. You guys commit to at least a 1 post/week game (vacations the only exceptions) and I'm in.

PS: I think 4 players in a pbp is really plenty to keep a game going. Anymore and the GM is herding cats to get posts.

Hey folks--
I think the commitment to one post per week is perfectly reasonable. If possible, I'd like to get everyone to sound off with concepts either for runners or the game that they'd like to see.
I'm currently working on a heist style game which takes place during the events of Ghost Cartels. Does this interest people? Are there aspects of the game which you'd like to focus on? The main drive from me is going to be narrowing down the scope of the runs to be more goal oriented.

Fenris and I can definitely post once a week and my sincerest apologies for the past disappointments.
In response to the boss man, I'm down for a heist job and I was kicking around (let's be honest I'm in love the idea) the idea of a pixie mage with a Seelie or Unseelie tradition depending on the groups make up or history. I would be a potent mini-mage if the points allow it.
BishopMcQ
Aug 12 2008, 07:07 AM
Ghost Cartels is the upcoming Plot Book that discusses the impacts in the shadows of a new drug (tempo) that hits the streets. A bunch of the regular players in the vice trade get involved, some selling, others angry that their profits are getting cut into. The events of Ghost Cartel won't be a major facet of the campaign, but will be happening around you. This way you can interact with or stay out of the issues as you see fit.

Ok. Game peripheral to the Ghost Cartels.
Pixie mage so far. What's everyone else want to play?
I'm thinking I need to learn Unwired, so I'm thinking about sticking with either a hacker or a technomancer. This would give me the ability to work with Unwired from the start.

B&E
Are we putting together a pre-made team or a group that is assembled for the job?
Fenris
Aug 12 2008, 09:47 PM
Well, since you mentioned Ocean's Eleven, let's do it a little of both. A group that got together for the job, but knows each other and has a positive working history.

I started on
Smoke, my B&E adept. Feedback NEEDED.
The concept is a green runner, maybe someones neice or nephew* who is a free-running-get-into-anything-and-hopefully-out-too-but-that's-a-crap-shoot 'expert.'
Smoke should be good at some aspects of shadowrunning but clueless in others (etiquette anyone?). I tried VERY hard to avoid the creep of skills and abilities. VERY hard. You might notice a lack of contacts and qualities, not done yet.
If there's anything I missed, or should absolutely have, let me know. I ditched traceless walk to pick up at a later date. I also ditched the ability that lets an adept do extra barrier damage (putting a little more 'B' in the 'B&E').
Please help build.
*(haven't picked a gender yet or much of a concept yet except that I want Smoke to be angling toward a career at being a criminal)
Fenris
Aug 14 2008, 04:45 AM
Sparky - As quick feedback before GenCon:
Traceless walk is still on the sheet?
You're currently at 415bp, but I assume that's before positive/negative qualities. Just more of an FYI.
In the modern world (2070), I think to even be able to call yourself a B&E guy you're going to need at least a point Hardware and maybe Software. I assume Red's going to be able to handle alot of that, but there will still be physical stuff he can't reach at a distance, and I didn't get the impression he was making one of those combat hackers ;D
And don't forget good ol' fashioned Locksmith'ing.
Again, all this is based upon the assumption that the character should have the basic knowledge to defeat electronic and mechanical locks and security systems. If it contrasts with your "green" concept, feel free to toss it all out the window.
HeySparky

BishopMcQ
Aug 18 2008, 04:30 PM
I think having a rating 1 skill would be helpful and it basically means that you sat down with a "How-to" guide from Home Depot.
The 4 in Athletics is for someone who excelled at college level athletics and made it into the minors--basically you'd be part of the training team for an Olympics track and Field team and professional rock climbing instructor.
If you are playing up the green side, you may want to pull that back and push the the beginner level skills a bit.
Redjack
Aug 18 2008, 05:32 PM
I'll have my first draft available in a few days. Still deciding between hacker & technomancer.
Couple of questions:
Is this going to be a 1/karma week + situational/milestone awards?
How much is everyone gonna spread their bp wide, rather than high? ergo. Should I focus on being the best hacker or make a weaker, but better rounded hacker?
Fenris
Aug 18 2008, 06:55 PM
I'm planning on spending a little bit wider, as opposed to focused. Since there's only the four of us, and we're not real combat heavy, I assume we'll all want to be able to backup the others.
Buddha72
Aug 18 2008, 07:50 PM
My thought as well, my spells will be a little utility, little combat and some defensive. My skill will be towards the mojo sides of things with the ability to use spirits to round out when we need the extra little bit.
HeySparky
Aug 18 2008, 09:22 PM
Well, I was thinking she (picked a gender) was on-the-way-to-world-class at the Parkour/Gymnastics side, but amateur at the shadowrunning aspects. What type and level of contact would have access to Genewipe? I want to make that Contact her dad. And her dad a contemporary or resource of the other PCs.
I'd happily go non-adept as well, if the concept would work as well or better. A non-magic sneaker seems pretty cool. But Initiation and metamagic feats are ever-so-tempting.
BishopMcQ
Aug 18 2008, 10:13 PM
If the plan was for someone who was great at parkour, then keep the 4. For the type of contact, I would think a geneticist, corporate surgeon, etc.

I'm thinking an Ocean's (11-13) style team structure--you all know each other and have worked in the past, but you don't necessarily do every job with each other. Of course, if the team chooses something else, that's all between you folks.
My plan is to start everyone in Los Angeles.
Narrative forthcoming.

Mikey; Ork Hacker
[ Spoiler ]
First impression of Mikey is that while he's not the smallest ork you've ever seen he's definitely below the average mark physically. Of course, that makes him equal to an above average human. He wears street clothes and is easy at home in them. His choice of wording usually mark him as from the streets, but his intellect and insights separate him from the dumb thugs.
When it comes to hacking, he carries what looks like a disposable com. What he does with that further separates him from those of similar backgrounds. He is a solid hacker and rigger with a tactic of picking up drones along the way. With all the drones tracking the PITO freaks in LA, that's not much of a challenge.
Two personal items of note: (1) Mikey always seems to keep abreast of current events and (2) he speaks a smattering of the top half a dozen languages of the LA basin.
