There are other things you can do instead of turning her into a vampire, as well. ou could, for example, have her express as a drake.

But the problem with Essence of 0 = Death is that cyberzombies no longer exist. In order to get negative, you have to pass 0. So, are cyberzombies also undead? Or are they near death?
Patrick Goodman
No, they're cheating death and getting away with it (sort of). Essence 0 (or in this case, <0) still equals death, but cybermancers are keeping the cyberzombie around through magical ritual, etc. Cybermancy is some serious cheating of death, and has been explained as such since its introduction back in the day in Cybertechnology.

Vampirism is the same way, but instead of creepy blood magic it uses uh.... creepy magic blood.... and a virus!

If a cyberzombie doesnt die when it goes below 0 essence neither does a vampire when it hits 0, seems pretty clear cut to me.

Cyberzombies are not in the basic Shadowrun rules and specifically not mentioned in the general rules regarding Essence Death as defined in the Basic Book. Cyberzombies are more like a spirit inhabiting your body than a regular negation of the problems of Essence loss.

And while the 4th edition Cyberzombie rules are a lot more playable in Augmentation than they were in M&M or Cybertechnology, they are in Augmentation, and aren't limited by restrictions on the basic rules.

And by the way, Patrick: If you're going to be working with the problems of the Esence Drainers in Running Wild, here's a fun one. If you are a Vampire who suffers Essence Loss a few months running and falls below 6, every time your Essence falls a point, you lose a Magic attribute and never get it back. So if you fall all the way to zero in Essence, you don't have any Magic any more and can no longer use your powers - so you can't Drain Essence any more. So you'll run around for a few days and die, because you can't get your Essence back.

Even more fun is the guy who Essence bounces from 3-6 a few times - he'll run out of Magic and still have several months to live. But he still can't drain Essence during that period, so this Vampire has "a few months to live" with a vengeance.

That's rather easy to do. A simple sentence that says that critters with Essence Loss do not suffer from Magic Loss will do the trick.

Oh sure, but currently there's a simple sentence that says flat out that they do suffer from normal Magic Loss when their Essence falls. I'm just pointing out that that shold probably be reversed because in 4th edition Magic is no longer directly tied to Essence, but is instea its own value which drops by one every time your Essence falls one and is less than 6.

The basic book currently has a page citation and everything. The citation happens to go to text that says "Game over man! Game Over!"

re: vampires and being dead, here's the most workable idea i can think of. when a person is drained to 0 essence by a vampire, the point at which they lose that last point of essence is when the check to see if they become a vampire or not is made. so when they actually hit 0 essence, they're either a vampire or they're not. if they're not, they're dead. if they are, they've got the Essence Loss power, and being at 0 essence doesn't immediately kill them.
