Nice touch. biggrin.gif

Anyway, hey everyone. Hope I'm not breaking the general theme too much; today just wasn't a good day for angst. smile.gif

No, Rule of Six doesn't apply to starting cash. Just like initiative. Also, Speed Coma's a band. smile.gif

Mainly for Bandits benefit, but hey so ye all know.

Back from LunaCon but work is hell this weekend i`ll be catching up with my posts Monday-Tuesday ish.

Good to know. Post should be edited momentarily.

Not everything in the Sixth World is angst!

Caught up on everything except p.39. Everyone's individual page should now link properly to the Prelude page linked in the first post, including yours, Eyes smile.gif Every piece of artwork or visuals I know about (except a couple of the floorplan draughts) should be accessible through your PC's main pages. Any glitches or wished-for additions, let me know.

I'll be away from later today until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Glad to have you back and I hope that your trip was most enjoyable. My least favorite part about a vacation ending is how so much work seems to pile up while one is away. As much as I'm sure we all get the urge to slack off work in order to spend more time on recreational activities . . . dumpshock doesn't pay the bills. I'll look forward to hearing form you whenever RL allows for it smile.gif

Absence announcement for my PCs and fellow GMs:

Tomorrow evening (Sunday) I will be leaving with a colleague of mine for a data collection trip. I will be in the Chicago area making use of the wonderful facilities provided by the Department of Energy and will not be back in town until Tuesday night. During this time I will be working almost around the clock and will not have any time to check dumpshock. I am sorry for the inconvience and thank everyone for their cooperation.

Cheers,
bandit
The_Eyes
Hm. Beam time at the Chicago APS, then? That place is so cool; a synchrotron with an on-site hotel. biggrin.gif Of course you hardly get to appreciate it at the time, what with the back-to-back 10-12 hour shifts.
banditf50
Damn, it sounds like a fellow LiTS player has also been (or still is) an APS general user smile.gif

While we have a room in the guest house, like always it probably won't get used. My colleague and I usually just take turns catching naps in the offices next to the experiment hall. But yes. . .the APS is damn cool.
The_Eyes
Only once (summer research job). The whole thing was a fiasco; we dodn't get enough time so our data wasn't good enough to publish; all that work for nothing. frown.gif Of course mostly I remember racing the trikes around the outer path at 2:30 in the morning and sneaking into offices to catch bits of the World Cup, so at least *some* of it was a positive experience. smile.gif Never got to see the rest of Chicago though; flew in on Friday afternoon, (two hours after getting called, "Hey, we need you down here." "Okay, I'll catch the red-eye and see you in the morning." "No, I mean *now*; your flight leaves in two hours." "What? But the airport is an hour and a half drive away!" Last time I fly by the seat of my pants *ever*. nyahnyah.gif), worked three 12-hour shifts, flew back Monday afternoon.

Yes.

In fact, what optional Matrix rules are we using?

I'll get you a list.

Also, can you default from one program design skill to another (say if I wanted to write an Attack utility instead of buying it like a normal person?)

Yes, although normal restrictions on defaulting apply.

banditf50
Hey everyone. I got back from my trip yesterday evening and have caught up on at least some of my ~33 hours of no sleep. I am reading any posts that I missed right now, but I probably will not be able to respond until tomorrow because I have to catch up on back-logged university stuff first frown.gif

The_Eyes: Such a "small world" moment. I guess we are both scientists of some discipline. What is your field of study if you do not mind the question?

bclements: Thank you for your well-wishing. It is great to see that we have a community developing . . . .enhances the entire LiTS game if you ask me smile.gif
The_Eyes
Chemistry. Specifically my little trip to the APS was as an undergrad researcher, working under a bioinorganic chemist. It was fun, but academic research is probably not the career for me (which is bad 'cause I want to go to grad school and that's pretty much what you do as a Chem grad student. nyahnyah.gif) How 'bout you?
Sedna
bandit: I forgot to add in karma for your Sheepdog column (sorry! I'm catching up too), so you've got a revised total of 3 for the previous week. I edited the post.

Grendel-here is a roll to see if I can find something that would react with the metal.

Chemistry 5: 5,4,4,2,1

Two ways to go about it. You have acid etch in the shop, which will do a number on the metal, but you'll have to use all of it in order to see good results. The time will be about two hours, but the etch liquid is expensive, 500 nuyen.gif for the liter bottle you have. Alternatively, you could corrode the metal through galvanic corrosion by sitting them in salt water and passing a low-level electric current through the bath. This is cheaper, only running up your electric bills by 200 nuyen.gif for the month, but it will take longer, at least two weeks to see any significant amount of corrosion.
The_Eyes
That last post read anything like right? I was trying to get a little of James's zone-out-factor there, and explain why he doesn't like being around lots of people by trying to peek inside his head a little. If it's confusing just let me know and I'll try another approach; most of the reason I do this stuff is to improve my writing/description ability, and feedback's the best way to improve.
The_Eyes
You could always bond some corrodable material to the outside (welding, glue, etc) and rust *that*... but maybe I'm not supposed to be making OoC suggestions?
Slipshade
Eye - I thought it came across just fine.

I do play by post for the same reason. I would really like to improve my writing skills and this is the most enjoyable way to do it.

The_Eyes: I am just finishing up B.S. degrees in chemistry and biology. It is an honor to be roleplaying with a fellow chemist. My trips to the APS was part of my undergrad research, which I will be continuing as a M.S. student in the fall. My specific area of interest is structural virology.

There are a lot of opportunities available for industry research after grad school, especially for a chemist. Not to mention the fact that the industry jobs (especially with the drug companies) pay quite bit more than do academic positions.
The_Eyes
Oh I know. I wish I had had the money to go straight to grad school out of college. Unfortunately I didn't, and now I'm looking at the prospect of applying without any good academic letters of reference; not a fun prospect. Means I'm really gonna have to study for that GRE 2. smile.gif
Morgannah
Hey all!

Yep, you're reading this right; I'm online and back in business! So hide the fine china, bolt the liquor cabinet, and hide your good looking relatives ..

okay, I just can't keep up the charade. smile.gif It IS nice to be back, though, and I'll be around for the month at least. Guide's Honour. grinbig.gif
WinterRat1
Glad to have you back Morgannah! I'm looking forward to following Cosmo's adventures again. smile.gif

PS Just for everyone's knowledge, Morgannah has been in contact with her GM, Grendel, during the time she's been away, so we did know what was up with her.

Letting us know you will be gone does not have to take the form of a public service announcement in the OOC thread, just as long as we know what's up with you, that's good enough. So yes, the procedures do actually work! wink.gif
WinterRat1
Slipshade, Scrapheap, Sedna- Look for responses to your posts (Sedna my post as Dragon; I believe Salvation does not need my intervention at this moment?) sometime tomorrow night. Just letting you all know I'm aware I'm up for all those storylines.
Sedna
When you can will be soon enough, WinterRat ... although I don't promise a two-hour turn-around this time!

Morgannah: glad to see you back smile.gif [/updated toaster]
The_Eyes
A couple of rolls, just in case they're actually used. Almost don't want to post these; they're so bad. nyahnyah.gif

Hmm, I think I need to program a search assistant for my search assistant. biggrin.gif

Wow, not holding back at all. A little jittery, are we? smile.gif
WinterRat1
OK, take a L stun (no background count in here). Also roll a Body(5) and initiative as well.

Body Roll: 14, 05, 05 (Wow my luck is holding out)

Initiative: Reaction 4 + 1 (Ok there went the luck) = 5
The_Eyes
Well, looks like you guessed right. After all, you're not paranoid if they really *are* all out to get you. biggrin.gif
Morgannah
It's great to be back and thank you for the warm welcome!

I've posted twice but I'm not sure what's happening .. please don't hurt me if it double-posts before I have a chance to fix things up. smile.gif
grendel
All optional rules from The Matrix sourcebook are in use.

That could have been a PM, but I wanted to have the last post in all the LitS threads. Makes me feel like I'm doing my job. smile.gif
WinterRat1
Slip- Your luck held when it counted, that's all I'm gonna say. OK you're up first. Post your action in the IC thread and any necessary rolls that you anticipate in the OOC thread. Oh, and we're in 'combat mode' now, so watch your time. 3 seconds per combat turn. You don't have to keep an EXACT count (too much work on both our parts) but you should not be advancing by more than a few seconds per post. See the gun battle outside Tommy Wong's with myself and Virgil for an example of time flow if you need one.
