a SIN would be a social security number only if you used a social security number in absolutely every transaction you were part of from riding the bus to buying an ice cream cone. You are required in a lot of nicer areas to broadcast it at all times so people know who you are, and faling to do so is a crime. SINs are datamined all the time, with companies spamming you with advertisements, offers, etc constantly. Everything you do is recorded, thats why runners keep fake SINs so that they can ditch them when there is too much info attached to any given one.

I am really impressed by how this is going, so far. You're all very, very good players... I've been out of the online RPG scene so long, and you all are making me regret having stayed away! I am on for the next several hours, and I am very very much enjoying watching this unfold.

I have a question as well, as I am finding that the whole SIN concept is leaving me a bit in the dust. How much information would be connected to a person's name? Is it similar, perhaps, to a highly advanced Google/Social Security system, where you get stuff about employment, criminal records, and basic indigraphy, plus anything that might have been "newsworthy"? I guess I am not really understanding how much would come up, in an ideal sx attempt.

I recommend reading some of the posts inside of UNwired and Runner's to really get a feel for what your data footprint is. Luckily, being so sheltered, and not carrying a comm, Portia's at the moment next to immune.

@Jake. What does Mia's search for external camera feeds come up with? Anything useful?

You find that there's a camera on the driveway, and one on each entrance, showing you this is a rather opulent old-school house, but not much perimeter view, mostly incidental.
Oenone
Public access? If so is there archived footage too?

(If so Mia will skim back through it as far as she can, to try and find out who has been coming and going from the house.)

Edit - This time she's checking out social networking and blogging sites for anyone listing their address as being on the same street as the targets house. To try and find anything interesting. (Hopefully Vergot picked the nosy neighbors flaw when setting up his house!)
Mickle5125
just an fyi: I'm pretty busy today. I'll be posting when I can, and keeping track of things as well as I can, but I won't necessarily be posting every five minutes.

RL is totally getting in the way of my gaming... frown.gif

Which floor is the old orc on, or is it a single story house?
Coldhand Jake
One floor place

@Jake - Do the door staff have anything useful in response to Mia's question? Or should I just skip waiting on the reply and move her over to a booth? (Oh and the question I asked last post on this thread about public access and archived footage was directed at you too. Basically I was wondering if there any accessable logs of when people came/went from the house).

Getting a dining booth is no big deal, think like getting a booth at a dine-in Pizza Hut. Except these have sound scrubbers making eavesdropping a bitch. Also, no public access to the footage, and no on-network recording, you'd have to hack a Horizon security division to get it.

Oh, no I meant when she asked the door staff the question below. Pose might have been missed in all the preperation stuff.

Flicking back to AR Mia heads to collect her things from storage, giving the troll bouncer a friendly smile as she politely asks "Haven't had any German tough guys in tonight have you?"

Hmm if there's no public access to the footage how did she know what the camera's showed?

She was aiming for the free (or nominal fee) to subscribe too camera's which are all over LA according to the sourcebook. The sort of thing which makes the P2.0 work and suchlike, she's got high lifestyle so any nominal fee's for the footage she can cover if it's up for sale to interested parties. Should be cheap given it's dull footage.

Oh and what results came up from her hunting through social networking data for the local area? Anyone posted anything interesting in regard to our target? (Basically Mia is trying to use the way LA works to her advantage, hoping the out of town types wouldn't have enough knowledge to keep themselves under the radar in that regard.)

Steve says "Nope." on the German guy question.

And the reason you can see his security cameras is because DD hacked the hell out of them, and routed a copy of the feeds to CreepWatch2070, if I'm not mistaken.

Now, as for checking the social networking/P2.0 blanket for locational keywords, based on what you already know, you see the place is not really a focus of any public attention except occasional people commenting on what a nice classical house it is, and how they'd love to buy it.

Ah, but those aren't the camera's I was interested in. Should have made it clearer in the post I guess, but Mia was looking for public access camera's on the street itself. Not ones linked into his house or security system. (Which is why she did a seperate search of the whole 'trix rather than a much quicker search of his security system).

Cool. The neighbors (assuming anyone lives next door) haven't complained on thier blogs or anything then huh? Shame although this implies he keeps things quiet close to home.

We seem to be about set on everything except transportation. Does anyone have transportation? Or can we agree on something to get this going?
Oenone
Mia has a bike, but that's not suitable for mass transport.
Mickle5125
Ronnie runs, jumps, and climbs everywhere, so nothing here.
Shalimar
Pura is thinking about buying a bike but doesn't have the cash for it yet.
DWC
Every crowd is made up of individuals, and the Divine Comedy is pretty crowded. Here's one of the faces in the crowd. I'll throw him into things at some point, though he's unlikely to get too involved in anything that spills out of the club. He's fairly socially capable, but still focused on shooting people in the face.

Hey DWC, I notice you have a car with a spoof chip. We could really use someone like you about now.

I hadn't planned on hopping in just yet, primarily because there are already plenty of folks involved in what's going on. I figured that I'd wait for this "episode" to sort itself out, then hop in the next time things quiet down.
Shalimar
Could we just steal a van? Or rent one?
cndblank
How about we borrow a van from a rental place (DD handles the paperwork so that the van is listed as rented).

The advantage here is that we can make sure that there are no data trails back up us and the van won't be reported stolen because it is being "rented".

If the milage, gas, and credit accounts all balanced out then the fact that no one remembers who actually rented the van and the person that rented the van could be one of a half dozen Bill Lee will never come up.

I'll front the cred for the rental until we are paid.
Coldhand Jake
I'm here, folks, if we're going to do this. I'll be in and out every hour or so till we get some movement, and then I'll settle in and run.
Shalimar
I like CND's idea, I think at this point that would be the best way to actually get us moving at this point.

crizh
We could even use the target's SIN to rent the Van and then it's presence on his property will not raise any eyebrows until after the fact.

Do you think we could have it delivered or have one of the Orcs pick it up in disguise?
Shalimar
That would just be adding insult to injury, I like it.

My god, man, I like the way you think. Creative problem solving at its best.
cndblank
My first thought was let's not connect the van to site of the disappearance of a major crime figure.

But then I realized that it would be only while we were there.

Still once they start looking for him, won't they start looking for any vehicle registered to him in the area at the time of his disappearance?

No one will physically see/record the van being there. Only what we decide the van will look/broadcast as. We need to be careful to not leave tire prints.
We need to figure out how to spoof the van tags and to erase where it has been. Certainly we want to cover up the tags with some fake tags in case I have to drop the spell. Also we need to find an ID and an appearance for the van that won't attract attention in that location. Then another ID to use in transit. Then another ID to use around here for delivery. Finally one for garabage disposal.

Can we check and see if the the rental agency doesn't have any special ways to track the van. It being "rented" should prevent them from looking for it, but I also don't want them to be able to pull the dog brain and being able to tell where it has been.

Can we do that above with the runners present?
How long would it take?
How much?

And I agree lets get moving.
crizh
How certain are we that the node DD is in isn't a honeypot or smokescreen?

I'm still worried that this is some sort of set up. Which gets me back to the snooping I said I was doing..

I tried to finish this on Saturday but didn't have time before I went to work. Did all the rolls but didn't post them.

BTW when I said leave a trail that points in the direction of the Triad, I wasn't talking about trying to framing the Triad. If you fake evidence to frame someone it can be discredited and they start looking for who planted the evidence. I just wanted what evidence they find to not rule out who ever would have best means and most motive to do this. Just suggestions never anything concrete.

Can we agree everyone going in is physically masked (both magically and physically)?

No fingerprints, no DNA, and we have the means to remove any that might be left?

Also we take nothing that can be traced back to him and any thing we do take we make very sure we dispose of in a totally anonymous method.

Easy will try to cast all the spells before hand and not in the van so that there are not astral fingerprints.

Also the target doesn't get any information on who we are.
I don't care how dead he's going to be when this is done, what his spirit doesn't know, it can not reveal.

I mean we are talking big leagues here.

Then again being new I don't know what level of paranoia the GM considers only reasonable and prudent for an experienced runner and what level is just dragging everything down to a crawl.

I will suggest just in case it is a trap we have an outer perimeter team and a backup team ready to go, if the inital stealth team can't take him down quietly.

We come up with a professional plan with the resources available considering that we were formed ad hoc but have plenty of talent and go.
crizh
If we're going to use physical mask we could just use the Everglades. I'll tape over the plates in case anyone penetrates the Mask and spoof it's node so it can't be traced.

We could disguise it as a Street-sweeper/Gulley cleaner while it's in the area and then disappear down an off-ramp into the water. Hell I bet we could find somewhere in the flooded part of Downtown to 'question' him without being disturbed.

edit - I've plenty of C-squared to deal with any forensic evidence...

KISS it is.

You can always get new tires after this anyway.

Mia has been trying to get camera views of the house which aren't hooked into his security system, but I'm still waiting on Jake to actually say if she found any or not.
Coldhand Jake
After a while, you find a public site that ties into the neighborhood watch network there, and you have it.
Mickle5125

Baring computer failure or other acts of god, I should be online most of the night. However I will be busy so while I will maintain a good post rate, they will unfortunately be more functional then aesthetic.

Central location being a location that is central to where the group has to go but I have no clue about being as I am not from even a Mundane LA, let alone a futuristic one.
Oenone
Call it a short drive from the target, somewhere public but not especially crowded. Like a park or something?
Mickle5125
works for me

Summoning a Spirit.

That brings up a question I wanted to ask the group.

Rather late to be considering it, but I had toyed with the idea that Easy was using a form of voodoo.

I've never played a possession based summoner so I have no idea what it would be like.

And since I might have to run one as a GM, anyone have any advise on playing one?

Or it might be better to stay with what you know.
Mickle5125
Soo... who's getting the spells?
Divine Virus
I'm not that sneaky, I could use a spell or two.
crizh
Can we insert a Spirit with Concealment before the Spells?

I don't really need Invisibility or Silence if I've got Concealment on my side also. Dancer is probably in a similar position. With both Concealment and Invisibility the non-sneakers ought to be just as difficult to spot as the rest of us.

Concealment also has the huge advantage of being Multi-Sensory.
Coldhand Jake
This was a question who's answer would be useful to be known across the table, so here it is.

Is the Divine Comedy the sort of place where a hotel concierge can get someone onto the guest list to that they don't have to wait in the line? I'm assuming there's no way someone Jake doesn't know is going to be on the "walk around the metal detectors" list, but Vice is the sort of guy who'll try to pull a few strings to avoid the indignity of standing on the sidewalk behind the velvet rope with all the wage slaves.

No concierge, no. The best one can hope for is what Dancer got, being waved past the line and into the scanner. NO ONE skips the scanner. But, for friends, they get alot more trust for what they can bring in, and afterwards, if they behave and keep that trust, the records get...doctored later.
Coldhand Jake
Yay, things are getting moving, well done. I'm here to run this Run
Mickle5125
I'm on for now, too. gone in about 45 minutes, however. but I will be back again at around 8-ish central time

I'm afraid I've been refreshing this page every 2 minutes for about 5 hours now....

Sad, very sad...
Mickle5125
don't feel too bad... I do the same every chance I get.

Heh. Still not moving fast enough? wink.gif

I'm already having trouble keeping up (and I'm just reading casually at this point).

Felice will visit the club at a later point, right now it's a bit much for me (so many other obligations). wink.gif

Bye
