don't make me rifle through my books to find out which one that is in german please <.< . .
Fortune
Nacht-something? biggrin.gif
Stahlseele
Nachtstreife, thank you . . i am tired and my brain is flooded with caffeine . . i cannot brain right now, i have the dumb <.< . .
and i don't really remember much rigging in there . . that was the one about the newly turned vampire right?
Fortune
Nope. It's the one with Alamais. The rigging was done by a Texas t-bird driver and his crew. Not a huge part, but cool none-the-less. It's one of my favorite Shadowrun novels. smile.gif
Stahlseele
. . . damn you, i will have to read that again to know what the hell we are talking about <.< . .
my favourite is shelley . . i love the humor in that one . . close second is ASH, the athmosphere is just perfect in the concert scene
Adarael
Honestly, if I had a dollar for every time something in SR fiction contradicted rulebooks, I would have made myself a dashing bowler hat of dollar bills by now.
Shit, you can ALMOST play that game with ADVENTURES contradicting other source material. DNA/DOA, I'm looking at you!

Seriously. Assume demographics data is flexible, flawed, or otherwise not written with the same iron hand as "When you reach Essence 0, you die." It'll save you headaches.

question.gif

German novels?
Stahlseele
yep.
the best of the newer ones i think . .
as for the old stuff, there's dead air my favourite ^^
i especially like how in the end it was all on chip, but once you leave the cinema, you still get that white noise in your head . .
GreyBrother
Shelley had some cool Moments and it was a very awesome read, although i regard the autor still as a weird potatoe.

But, one of the coolest Shadowrun i've ever read was Wiener Blei (from 98, translated Viennese Lead). Sick if read with the rules in the back of the head, confusing if you have no idea of the background, but quite cool written and some good laughs.
Much better then GMBH and Cash Flow anyway.
The Jake
Does anyone know what happened to Brighteyes (aka. Leonardo the elf)? I know it was suggested that Lofwyr took him - as opposed to killing him - since the body was never found...

- J.
Fortune
Rumor has it that Lofwyr has him tucked away in Antarctica, slaving away on new tech.

The last statement about novels and canon that I recall was back in the FanPro days. It was said that all but one of the (English) novels are considered to be canon.
In the September/post-Gencon public dev chat, Peter Taylor announced the return of SR novels and the following was stated:
QUOTE
This time round Catalyst has control of the novels, not a third party publisher or Wizkids. We have editorial control. Not only will contents be canon but the stories will be set in the current version of the setting.

I've always thought that SR tie-in novels were out-of-continuity (like Star Trek books or any other licensed property tie-in work) and Peter's comment makes me think that, while the new novels are kosher, the older FASA/Roc books are OOC. The Earthdawn crossover stuff, like the Dragonheart trilogy, would be tricky to reconcile from an intellectual property standpoint.

Of course what's official today could be unofficial tomorrow. And I fully admit that I could be way off base. No one has denied a Redbrick/Catalyst crossover in Dawn of the Artifacts.
Fortune
Note that Synner doesn't actually state that the older novels are not canon. merely that this time, along with them being considered canon, they will also be firmly grounded in the actual setting, as opposed to some of the earlier books, who's authors were not all that familiar with the Sixth World.
Stahlseele
note that appearantly the new german novels are canon, but generally considered sub-par compared to the older novels . .
i really hate most of the new german novels . . i would rather have the old ones, over the top like sly stallone they might be, to be made canon . .
hobgoblin
heh, im tempted to view german and english shadowrun as two different dimensions...
Stahlseele
yeah . . better that way . . if all german stuff were non canon, i'd be happy . . and i am german <.< . .
hobgoblin
how about this, german stuff is canon with other german stuff, but not canon with english stuff wink.gif
The Jake
Speaking of novels and non-canon, I always wondered how Spider became a valid PC totem after the events of the Secrets of Power trilogy....
LOL. biggrin.gif

- J.
Red_Cap
And how Infected are now valid PC metavariants after the second book of the Secrets of Power Trilogy? Bloody cannibals.
GreyBrother
*sarcasm* Or how AIs are valid PCs after that whole Crash and Arcology Stuff.

Can we agree that anything that's badly written is OOC? Oh, wait... What's "bad"? Uh... see you! biggrin.gif
Stahlseele
most of the german only stuff can be considered pretty bad . .

Back to the root issue-

Who would like to see characters either die/disappear or at the very least CHANGE in 20+ years?

They have. Shadowland posters such as Prime Runner, XStar, and my old favorite, Orklander (ORKLAND! ORKLAND! ORKLAND! [Can someone ban this guy?]), are no longer mentioned in the rule book or campaign fiction pieces. And someone dies in the fiction piece of Ghost Cartels.

Meh.

Well, what would make you happy then?

>>Hey everyone, remember me? It's Prime Runner. Long time, no post! LOL! This new Jackpoint system is really something huh? Just wanted to let you all know that I'm out of the runner game. I've settled down with a special lady and we've got three little ones now and a nice little house in Bellevue. Anyway, just wanted to say 'hey' and let y'all know how I was doing. Peace out!

Red_Cap
Well, aside from not actually seeing most of our friends from Shadowland thanks to the switch to JackPoint (Conspir-i-see, Chromed Accountant, Smiling Bandit, etc), it was mentioned in one of the later 3rd Ed. source books that Dragonslayer croaked.

Plus, wasn't Captain Chaos taken down by the Second Crash?

There's shadowrun characters worth mentioning?

There's shadowrun characters worth mentioning?

Not really. They're all ciphers.

Combine angst + cigarette smoke + leather or trenchcoat + fairy tale creature and shake well. Voila, instant Shadowrun novel protagonist.
GreyBrother
*sigh* If it were that easy... really that would be heaven.

deaths in superhero comics are overrated.

and who cares about the big bads, i kinda liked the odd ones poping up in shadowtalks more.

these days its to sanitized, where is the big ol' tir tarngire talks with dragon-loads of veiled statements being made, followed by threads after threads of forum-goers trying to guess who the hell was hiding behind some handle or other...

To be fair, Marvel has at least started to introduce a little more permanancy in character deaths. Jean Grey is still dead, Colosus was dead for a couple of years. The morlocks are all still dead, James Proudstar is still dead, Cypher is still dead (well techno-organically undead). Yeah, I know they brought Psylocke back, and Colosus, and etc etc I'm aware, I'm just saying death is beginning to be a little more long-lasting.

I keep on getting Spider Jerusalem.

You probably had some warmed over Hunter S. Thompson and Suicide Girls left in the glass. Adding a little Johnny Mnemonic and a splash of Michael Moorcock should clean that right out.
Jackstand
Everyone seems to be forgetting the most tragic loss of them all-- Ricky the Ratboy, may he rest in peace.
Drac
Aww you beat me to it!
Oh, and it was actually Rikki Ratboy.
How did the stench-tossing shaman die anyway?

p.s. I'd kill to find out what happened to Wolfgang Keis.
Jackstand
Oh, that's right. I think they spelled it Ricky in the Genesis game.

He got himself geeked by some no-name gangers. They talk about it in the Sprawl Survival Guide.

- The Hangmen have a sort of informal apprenticeship relationship, where kids that want to escape the Zone steal or cobble together their own commlinks and the Hangmen give the kids shitwork to do for rock-bottom prices, upgrades, programs or even "Lessons." Our old friend the Grid Reaper is there raising the next generation of ghoul hackers.
- Zoned.

- Next Generation is right; all those kids are his! I swear, he'd stick it in anything...
- Hannibelle.

Red_Cap
No kidding. I just got Unwired today (left over cash from my Xmass shopping), and apparently NetCat is a looker because Slamm-0! wants to get into her pants.
GreyBrother
Doesn't Slamm-O want to get into everyones pants as long as §Girls = TRUE?
hobgoblin
pick up RC and one find a artists impression of netcat in the back...

and one of the feral cities opening texts have pistons backing up the claim about netcats looks...

Slamm-O! must be into the heroin chic look. But now that I think about it the only women in Shadowrun with juggs and a butt seem to be orks, dwarves and trolls.
Red_Cap
I don't know, the black elf chick from the BBB's metatype explanation section has some curves.

And whoa, we went off topic.

I know it drives AH crazy, but I always read his shadowtalk posts first, before reading the text of what he writes. Actually, I do that for all the SR books...
