What's the highest armor rating you can get at creation? (the Availability 12 limit) Please list the item name and book if you can.

Next what's the highest you can get during the game.

Please only use a Human with Body 6 as base line.
Machiavelli
I have no book at hand, but with body 6, you are quite limited. I would say an armored jacket (8/6) with the highest rating FFBA (4/1) is nearly the max reachable without stress.. This you could perfect with this Ares-Body-protection-system (whose name i forget, did you recognize?)^^ For a maximum armor of (14/11). I have played around with some other options, but this one is the one you get the least stress of. There are many variants you could choose, but (14/14) is the max there should be possible.

I Counted 15.
Industrious Line Winterized Coverall (6/5) (Arsenal pg. 46)
FormFitting Body Armor (Full Body Version) (6/2) (counted as 3/1) (Arsenal p. 48)
Secure Tech PPP System Vitals Protection (1/1) (Arsenal p. 49)
Secure Tech PPP System Leg and Arm Casings (1/1) (Arsenal p.49)
Secure tech PPP System Shin Guards (0/1)(Arsenal p 49)
Helmet (1/2) (BBB p 316)

so final armor would be 15/12 (and W/o penalties)

+22 from armored to max full cyber body
+3/4 from Dermal Sheath 3
+0/2 from Ceramic Bone Lacing
For a total of 40/40 cyber.gif
Of course i think some GM:s might dissallow the last two if you allready have the first. biggrin.gif

On a more serious note you could still add a PPP forearm guards for +0/1 and final total of 15/13

Yeah but at that point you would be taking negatives, as 15/13 is max for body 6 character with full FFBA.

on Top of that you add a Possesing Spirit Lvl 12 with 12 Pts of hardened Armor wink.gif

How do you get a full cyber body from the start with 22/22 armor? The availability for armor is Rating x 5, and there's nothing saying that a cyberlimb has any natural armor to start with. At best I can see 12 from a full cyber body. 2 from each limb, 2 from the torso, and 2 from the skull.

I was thinking 19/14 for ballistic...
8/6 from Armored Jacket
+2/+2 from Armored Helmet
+6/+4 from Ballistic Shield
+1/+0 from Aluminum Bone Lacing
+2/+2 from Dermal Plating

... and 12/19 for impact.
6/9 from Riot Control Armor
+1/+2 from Riot Control Helmet
+2/+6 from Riot Control Shield
+1/+0 from Aluminum Bone Lacing
+2/+2 from Dermal Plating

You can only take that three times if I'm not mistaken, and you're limited to 18 availability, which limits you to 3 armor per limb, you cannot obtain the full 4 armor at character creation.

Cyberskull = 2/2 Armor
Cybertorso = 3/3 Armor
Left Cyberleg = 3/3 Armor
Right Cyberleg = 3/3 Armor
Left Cyberarm = 2/2 Armor
Right Cyberarm = 2/2 Armor
Grand Total = 15/15

It's actually avalability 20, but your right about being only apple to take it three times, i had forgotten that. So max 18 in chargen, but i didn't really mean it in chargen it was more about actual max for that body six human.

Full FFBA gives extra +3/1

Armor bonus from FFBA is counted half when considering armor encumberance.. so 6/2 FFBA is
considered as 3/1 then..15/12 by my counts is right..(w/o penalties)

When Restricted Item comes to play: Heavy Military Grade Armor (16/14) (Arsenal p. 50) and Military Helmet (2/2)
(---"---) + Aluminium Bone Lacing (0/1) (BBB. 333) = 18/17

Max normally is 12/12 full body FFBA gives +3/1 that doesn't count, so max is 12/12 + 3/1 = 15/13 attleast by my math. wink.gif

..counting.. 9+6 =15 (9+3=12 when counting armor encumberance) ..ok.. no problem from ballictic
..counting.. 10+2= 12 (10+1=11 when counting armor encumberance).. ok ..no problem from impact
..and can still all Forearm Guards (0/1) with out penalty..(***!!..) i knew 2 hours of sleep was not enough..
so final would be 15/13..

Make it a cyberware suite (why wouldn't it be?), and take it for one Restricted Gear.

EDIT: There's a thread floating around here somewhere that's called How To Get 100 Armor for Fun and Profit (or something to that effect), and it's all about getting it in chargen. The final numbers ended up somewhere near/over 400.

Guys... I can't believe you seem to have overlooked military-grade armour. For a mere 30,000 (plus Restricted Gear), you get 18/16 armour with buckets of capacity for add-ons (including the potential to have the incredibly useful chemical seal), an upgradable military-grade commlink and other built-in goodness. And there's no penalty, because, being custom-fitted, it uses BODx3 for encumbrance.

Other than that, the metagenetic dermal deposits aren't a bad idea for 5BP (and a minor metagenetic flaw), or you could slap on something like orthoskin 3. Honestly, for a human, 22/20 is probably plenty.

The other fun thing to do would be to go around on a Horseman Personal Mobility Vehicle with 8 Smart armour and the Reflective Hull upgrade (so lasers and gauss weapons don't halve your sweet, sweet armour) and throw on another 10 Personal Armour (which is used when people try to shoot at you through the vehicle), so enemies either have to deal with 18 additional armour (plus your own... we're up to 40, yes?) or take out the vehicle first.

Can't be compined with smart armor and only works agains lasers not gauss weapons, of cource sonic damage is the way to as it completdly negates armor.

Negative physical initiative, not matrix/astral initiative. He wouldn't be able to do anything in meatspace, but cyber/astral he'd be just as effective. Go read the rules again.

As an example:

Dodge Guardian with Walker Mode/2 Arms and max vehicle armor: 16
Rigger coccoon (f6 Reinforced): 36
f6 Spirit posessing the bike: 12
Total: 64

Note: The bike is roughly troll-sized after the modifications, so you can go anywhere a troll could go.

For the person
Full PPP (5 pieces): 2/6
r6 Reinforce for all 5: 30
FFBA shirt: 3/0
r6 Reinforce: 6
Armor Jacket: 8/6
r6 Reinforce: 6
Total: 55/54 armor

Note: Have a Magical Group contact cast and sustain the spells so you don't have to, for the low low cost of 16 or less BP! Also, it should be noted that any apparent dicepool penalties will NOT affect you in VR/Astral.

Grand Total: 119/118, easy, off the top of my head. Much of it is hardened too.

You of course are incorrect, very little of the final numbers were altered due to oversights. All of which can be fixed up by changing out the vehicle used or altering a few minor parts. I didn't get into other shenanigans that were possible since I figured around 150ish armor would be fine. It can go as high as 200+ with the right workings. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it true. Knowing the rules involved goes a long way to making a informed decision.

Oh I think you also mentioned the Neg INT, which of course (if you read the thread) doesn't matter since you will be jacking into the vehicle anyway.

EXACTLY!

EDIT: LAWL I just did some quick math

Assuming F6 Spirits we get

6 possessing spirits (x6!) = 72
6 Harden spells at F6 = 36
6 Ballistic Shields = 36

Total 144 Ballistic / 132 Impact

...LAWL this is just off of shields alone rotate.gif

Of course this would present a few movement problems, however you can run two of these shields (for a armor rating of 12 vs your body, the add-ons don't matter) and still move around, I think somewhere around 50 armor for two sheilds is worth it. Then again if you are rigging this will never be a problem.

EDIT 2: Lol don't forget Gel pack on the shields, for another 6/6, this is so easy!

EDIT 3: Six armed surged character with two uber shields and 4 full auto SMGS and Suppress the area x4, while having a huge armor pool to soak damage while you block a hallway....Dwarven Defender anyone?>
Neraph
Don't forget the Snake Mesh Socks, r6 Reinforced as well, for an additional 6/8 armor to attacks directed at your feet!

And f6 Reinforcing gel packs in your armor, assuming only 1 you can get an additional 7/7 armor.

Wait! You mean there's heavier armor than an armored coat at 6/4? Sheesh...the GM has been holding out on us.

So...

Full body replacement with armor modifications: 22/22
Total: 22/22

Dodge Guardian with Walker Mode/2 Arms and max vehicle armor: 16
Rigger coccoon (f6 Reinforced): 36
Total: 42

For the person
Full PPP (5 pieces): 2/6
r6 Reinforce for all 5: 30
FFBA shirt: 3/0
r6 Reinforce: 6
Armor Jacket: 8/6
r6 Reinforce: 6
Total: 55/54

6 possessing spirits (x6!) = 72
6 Harden spells at F6 = 36
6 Ballistic Shields = 36

Total: 144/132

1 f6 Reinforced gel pack: 7/7
Total: 7/7

f6 Reinforced Snake Mesh Socks: 6/8
Total: 6/8

Grand Total: 270/257 (276/265 for attacks against your feet)

Not bad.

EDIT: With a 16 point magical group contact (1 Connection/6 Loyalty [+1 District Wide, +4 Most Magical, +2 20-99 Members]), you can find about 50 people willing to cast and sustain the spells required for the above for you, so this can be done with a mundane character. You can even subtract the six spirits posessing the shields and still be left with 198(204)/185(193), which is more than enough.

Military armor is NOT GOOD because you can't get PPP and FFBA with it. you end up with lower possibilities with it. For example: you get Heavy Milspec, but it only has 20 capacity for armor enhancements. On the other hand, you get an armor vest with full PPP and full-body FFBA, you have 2 less armor (for both ballistic and impact), it takes slightly more encumberance, but you have a lot more room for enhancements (the FFBA and the vest alone give you a lot, much less every piece of PPP). And you also have more room for Reinforce spells with FFBA+PPP+Vest. A potential extra 42 mroe points of armor.
the_real_elwood
This is why Shadowrun needs the APCA creation rules from CP2020, so you can REALLY tweak out that milspec armor.

And while I don't know the RAW, I think the interpretation of gelpacks and reinforce spells stacking between individual pieces of armor is disingenuous at best. But if you're going that direction, why not just rule that you can apply reinforce spells to all the different components of the milspec armor.

Because for the purposes of the game, Milspec Armor is one piece of armor. Now, technically, you can Reinforce the same armor over and over again, as SR has no spell-stacking rules, unlike D&D. To that effect, you could simply cast the armor spell (or have it cast on you) on yourself 15 times.

But most people would like to see one effect per item.

The RAW about gel packs and Reinforce spells is thus: (suggested) one Gel Pack upgrade per piece of armor, and Reinforce spells just add armor. The armor is added to the item, and you get the item's armor, thus you get the Reinforce spell.

Incorrect. The capacity of the armor superceeds the enhancement rules. This is actually nicer, as you can more easily get r6 all armor enhancements. The main attraction of Milspec are the milspec only armor systems, so why waste those possibilities on other armor?

Also, there is no ruling against stacking spells in the game. You can also wear multiple Nonconductivity (just supposing), although only the highest amount counts.
