As Karoline pointed out, Data Search is actually linked to Logic instead of Intuition. Also, remember that we're using the "Gritty Alternative Ruleset" (speaking of which, I need to remember to re-post those rules in the opening post), so the total hits on any test are limited to no more than the character's skill rating x2. In this case, you'd be relying on a Rating 1 Data Search Skillsoft (which is 1,000Y by itself), so you could only ever possibly generate 2 hits during any given Interval.

If, after that, you're looking to pick up even a Rating 1 Activesoft, the Availability Interval would be 2 days, and the Threshold's 8. That's pretty slow going. It gets a bit better if you're only after a Rating 1 Knowsoft; 1 day Availability Interval, Threshold 4. Also, I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm not convinced I should allow buying hits for the Search; we'd be defaulting the test if it weren't for a low-rating Skillsoft (which, again, would need to be purchased first).

Doesn't seem worth it just to get ahold of some Freeware, if you ask me.

Aren't we using SR4A rules? That would make the Rating 1 Data Search Skillsoft 10k. Also wouldn't the data search fall under the rules of extended tests in that each interval gets a cumulative -1 penelty? So he would roll 4 dice, then 3 dice, then 2 dice, then 1 die, which gives a total of 10 dice in which to get 8 hits. Sounds like bad odds to me.
milk ducks
I've got SR4A on pdf, so I primarily run my numbers from my SR4 book. Either way, seems like a huge hassle.

Are we ready to head to the meet?
Marwynn
Guess so. Are we all going in now? It's 1 o'clock...

Or shall we flash forward a bit?
Karoline
I think he means enter a timewarp so we can get there.
cndblank
Do we need to cover any thing else?

If not then lets warp to the meet do we can find out what the run is. wink.gif

Oh... I think I got it... maybe. Bad pun, Bad!

Anyway, yeah, nothing else major I wanted to do before the meet (Except head back to my bus to pick up some drones and have them come with me to set up outside)

Rev needs to put her war paint on.

Thank goodness it is winter now otherwise she would have to wear the ultimate torture device... High heels!

Actually the Halloweeners have always appealed to me for some reason. I was actually upset at the direction Slash and Burn went with them, and glad he died off.

Yeah, me too. No idea why.

If I get a consensus that it's time to flash-forward to the meeting (and I think I basically already have it), I'll go ahead and write up that post tomorrow night after work. In the meantime, just let me know how everyone's going to be placed and whatnot. I'm anxious to get the ball rolling myself.

Marwynn
Method and my characters will be getting there early, and I suppose everyone will too. Since they've been here before I guess they know the exits and the potential hiding spots, sniper nests, etc., and they do a quick go over. Maybe place a few drones around.

About an hour before the meet the two will be inside already, comfortably arguing about guns, seated to cover the most obvious entrances/exits. If it won't arouse suspicion being alone, Sam may sit somewhere by himself once it gets closer to the meeting time to cover another angle.

And I'm going camping Saturday morning. But I will be back Sunday evening.

Flash forward good.

Fast-forwarded to the Lounge. Just a quick "common sense" note before I go to bed; remember that Matsu Hideki's name is private. To use it out loud would be unwise. For all intents and purposes, his name is "Mr. Johnson". In return for respecting his anonymity, he'll do the same for you.

-milk.
cndblank
Does Mister Johnson want to do this deal over a skinlink if so I'll have it separate from my main comm unit.

if so I'll guess we can hold hands under the table.

I've put up an opening post for Rev

Please feel free to put words in her mouth so we can start going over the particulars.

Back tomorrow afternoon.

Bye!

Test run

Any suggestions before I post it.

Rev smiled, "I like better. I take it, he will not be using their services again.

Do you care if they have reason to associate what ever happens with him?

Do we have a way to physically ID the "the puppet"?

The same for the personafix being used and Mr. Gifu Sho "account" along with how he paid for the services.

In particular we will want to know exactly how he would schedule his appointment and pay for it along with what and how he addressed her plus any information we would for need for a "Mr. Gifu Sho" to pay her another visit.

For instance how often would he arrange an appointment and when was the last time he saw her.

Also is there any thing we need to know about him being lost in the wilds of Tacoma?"

Finally how much better?"

Method
I think its a good idea to get information about how Sho interacted with the parlor, but I don't think our first step should be to use that info. If the yaks are actively stealing information from this guy they will be more vigilant and are likely to become suspicious if anything is amiss. I would say our first step should be to send one of our group in posing as an unrelated John and drop some misinformation- maybe something about a smuggling op that will be too good for the Yaks to pass up. Then we set up a sting and see if the Yaks act on the info- we don't need to engage them, we just need to see if they show up. Then we can work out the rest.
Karoline
Couldn't we just have the good doctor call in for another session just like normal, then have someone go in disguised as him? Would get us quick and easy access to the girl.
Method
Yes we could, but there is more risk, and we don't know for sure that this is the source of the leak. The problem with sending someone in disguise is that the yak have presumably be surveilling this guy for some time, and could notice any discrepancy- even a little detail we would never think of. For example, there was an american spy that was captured by the soviets because he ate his pie starting from the point, and in Russia they eat it from the crust.
cndblank
True, but they might buy it long enough to get us access to the girl and the Personafix.

Haven't seen it.

And what do we do once we have access to the girl? Shoot our way out of a Yakuza buraku parlor? My point here is that gaining access to the girl is the easy part. I'd prefer to know for sure if she is the leak before we get to the hard part.

Rev is fishing trying to get all the data she can from the Johnson.

Method
By all means, take anything he will give us.

And just for good measure, I'm going to toss up a few Perception Tests for Hollywood. He's just looking for anything suspicious in the crowd or at the front of the club.

[EDIT]: looks like Invisible Castle is down. milk, feel free to roll on my behalf. Int 3 + Perception 2 (+ Audio Enhancement 3 if applicable).

I went ahead and used the online D&D dice roller. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any way to link the results. I rolled two Perception tests for you. I'm assuming you're using Observe in Detail Simple Actions and all that. The dim light of the club would ordinarily impose a -2 penalty to your visual Perception tests, but your Low-Light contact lenses cancel that out. On that test, you rolled 1,1,6,2, and 3; almost a glitch. I believe the standard Perception Threshold is 2, so that test was no good. There's a lot of people moving around, being loud, and lots of ambient lights distacting you.

Then I rolled an audio perception test and got 1,3,5,6,6,6,3, and 2; that's four hits, so you did very well there. Kid Hollywood is easily able to cut through the distorted guitars and drunken shouting, and focus on nearby conversations and general chatter. Nothing seems out of the ordinary at the moment. If anyone's suspicious of you, Hideki, or his goons, they're not talking about it.

I'll have a full, in-character response to your questions a bit later on tonight.

please excuse my absence. I got the flu and has run me down. I'm better now after two bags of IV, but i'm going sleep a bit and post in the morning.

The Datachip from Hideki, being the internal security reports dealing with Dr. Gifu Sho's case, has answers to basically all of your questions, and a whole lot more; including as much information on the girl as possible, and trideo images of her captured on Sho's own cyber-eyes. I'll post exactly what's in it tomorrow when I get home from work. I'd do it now, but I'm totally beat. Good night, guys.

Okay, I'm back sort of. Sorry again, but looking at a creen was nausiating the last day and a half. Since the jackass guard is man handling me out the booth...can I attempt a pick pocket? You can roll for me as I think Invisible castle is still down
cndblank
Got no problems with moving it along so everyone can get involved but let me ask a few questions.

Is this the usual MO for Mr Johnson?

Is the price fair?

Or is he having us hurried out because he has another appointment?

Maybe we should keep him under observation discretely?
cndblank
And give me a perception roll please to notice how steamed Nest-O is.

Sure. I rolled your nine dice (AGI 4 + Palm 3 + Nimble Fingers and Improved Ability 2) and got: 3,4,5,4,1,4,5,3,and 3. That's two successes. I just pulled some random goons out of the book, and honestly, these guys don't even have Perception as a listed skill. So they're defaulting (-1). With the Dim Light in the club, that's another penalty (-2) for anyone without Low Light Vision. Also, nobody is specifically taking an Observe in Detail simple action, so that's an additional penalty (-2). Still, it's an opposed test against all four of them (let's not count Matsu Hideki), so they get a +3 dice bonus for that.

With their reduced dice pool, the goons don't even score a single hit. Nest0's able to score a Fichetti 600 light pistol from its concealable holster hidden within the jacket of the guard that's lifting him to his feet.

Rev doesn't need to make a Perception check to notice Nest0's reaction; it's pretty obvious neither of you are crazy about thugs laying their hands on you. I guess it should be noted that they're not being rough, or rude, necessarily. They're being firm. I went ahead and rolled a Perception check for you anyway, to see if you noticed Nest0 making a Palming attempt. After the penalty for distraction, you got: 6,3,2,5,3, and 6. That's three successes, so you do notice Nest0 palm the pistol.

Hmmm. So this job is apparently non-negotiable. You all realize that we just got stuck between pissing off Hideki and pissing off the yakuza, right?

Mmmmm gritty. smokin.gif

We also have one of his goons gun...with his goons prints on it if i'm not mistaken.

I'm trying to decide what Sam would do. Seeing those two being man-handled would have done nothing for the ork's cool. "Just following orders" and the like don't mean much to him, he'll shoot the two outside if they get rough or get loud. Luckily for them he has SnS loaded...

Pity, however, that this Mr. J seems to have made a rather serious mistake. From my reading of it, he motioned for his bodyguards who all came to the table and escorted the two out.

Leaving Sam with a japanese Johnson who just dissed his friends and him by extension by being so rude. You see my dilemma. He knows bad things will happen if he does bad things to Hideki, so the motivation will have to come down to the basics: his two siblings (sorry guys in the end your characters don't factor into it for him, they're family).

He'll walk the line.
