Is there anything official that says that it becomes obvious that you're using a soft to speak a language? I mean, stilted, cold, textbook perfect, perhaps?
AFAIK, there's nothing special. But you can certainly rule that going with Linguasofts makes you sound a little...robotic. The higher the rating, the less an issue it is, of course. When you call AT&T's info line, it sounds like a real human being, but it's really a machine. An incredibly human-sounding machine.

I would say it would be obvious:
Except I have Linguistics and Mnemonir Enhancement. Which really should soften the obviousness of it.
It's quite possible I sound very much like someone who learned Dakota from a Tutorsoft though.

I love Cruiser...
But he's too hung up on KE and his own anger to be a very effective leader

THough really, I personally wouldn't count out Ghost.. She's a good combatant, and a good face.

Heck, for all we know, Pedro will turn out to be 'that guy' that we all follow his lead.
Right now we've had a lot of social, and Rick is comfortable with social so he's stepped up. IF we have to plan an extraction, Rick's going to be like.. uh.. what?

It seems like you are talented at spoofing other people. It's more difficult for somebody who dresses like a priest to convince a Sioux bartender that he's a Johnson. Maybe use the next karma for a Con pool?

Since my Cha is 5, what would my rolls be for Influence-related tests (since I have no skills in that group)? Would I get 9 dice, or much less than that?

With no skills, you default to your stat -1, so you'd still get 4 dice, but you're not going to be nearly the con man that Rick is.

Officially, you have to break the group up before you can apply a specialization.
But IIRC we had that topic before... but maybe I am mixing that up with another game.

I think I remember it, but it might be in a different game where Thanee and I are playing.

My gut says that you can specialize without breaking the group, but if you try to advance an individual skill, the group breaks.

Thanee
Jan 26 2011, 07:15 PM
If that is so, then we might have at least some common ground there.

But if the blackmailing is not part of the deal they are in, and they were hired for an extraction... then they sure want to deliver the guy.
Question is, how do we figure out, whether they are or not.

Jan 26 2011, 07:21 PM
But we might not care if he gets delivered.
We want to make sure the blackmail doesn't happen.
That's the important part.
I'm not sure Falcone cares about B coming back, just about his reputation.
Thanee
Jan 26 2011, 09:05 PM
Yeah, what I thought is (assuming all this is right, of course... we could still be
completely off on that one

), that we might get their interest if someone was using them (or their job) for the blackmailing, and considering how touchy they are, they sure won't like that one bit.
So, if we cooperate, we could stop that blackmailing issue together and then figure out a way that Falcone gets out clean and B gets (back) to the Cats (in case Falcone needs him to be there, maybe that is not even necessary).
Result: everyone is happy!

Ok, maybe not quite everyone, but everyone we care for.

3 or 4 net hits (SR4 mind probe's hits required to gain access to all info a target consciously knows) shouldn't be so bad, especially if I spend a point of edge, but I won't use the mind probe unless absolutely necessary. Just throwing it out there as an option so you know what my char can do.

Alright so we have two hours and 45 minutes till our meeting with the black cats. How can we best spend our time? Hammerjack is a decking issue, so I'm useless on that one. If we find out that the blackmailing has nothing to do with the actual kidnapping, we can just let Falcone know about Hammerjack. I think getting Belenkiy back is our priority numero uno. We may just have to wait for our meeting to find out where he is, but what is our contingency plan for dealing with the Black Cats? We will need arms and armor because they are Shadowrunners and we must be prepared to fight them.
I like Thanee's idea to let the Black Cats know about the blackmailing. That could put them on our side and make it more likely to give up the package. Although if they are truly professional, they will probably defend their package to the death to complete their job. (although what if they decide they like the idea playing along with the ransom and sending another message to Falcone (assuming they have his commcode or some other means to leave a note)?

Maybe Rick, Pedro, and Warden visit with the ladies while cruiser and ghost act as backup?
