Ummmm... Magic Power of 4?

Do you mean a Split of Magic at 3/3 for Adept/Sorcery?

I guess I was remembering from past SR generations, my bad.

Is there a way for Mystic Adepts to Gaesa their actual Magic rating?

But yes, this would be a 3/3 split of Magic/Powers.

You can have a Geas, but you cannot recover magic with it. Happily, you do not lose Magic for all the things you did in previous editions.

Quick question --

Say a mystic adept starts off with 6 magic
-takes Warrior Way
-takes Improved Reflexes 3 (-25% = 3PP)
-takes Magic Power 4 w/Gaesa (-25% = 3PP)

Sound balanced to anyone?? I'm sure this has been brought up but its hard to search this site.

Yeah, kind of.
It gets silly like that.
Magic 6
Way of the warrior
Increased Reflexes (way+geas)= 2
Combat Sense 6 (way+ geas)= 1.5
Armor 6 (way+geas)=1.5
And some resistance(Fire, electricity for starters)

Umidori
Perfectly reasonable. The GM simply needs to cook up situations in which it is difficult or impossible to fulfill the geas. And if the geas is able to be maintained almost no matter what, the GM deserves to have it abused for allowing such a weak limitation it in the first place.

It's a little difficult to talk about balance with Way of the Adept.

- It helps balancing adepts and cybered-adepts
...as long as the cybered adepts don't start using ways as well.
- It causes a balance issue between pre-way adepts and post-way adepts
- For some people it balances adepts and non-adepts cybered characters, but I'm still on the fence on this.

I still don't like the whole concept.

@Blade
The problem was (and always was) that cyber-mage and cyber-adept was cheap, due to the fix costs for magic loss.
One point of essence is worth at least one powerpoint. Going delta even two or more.

Now, if I have to pay 45 Karma for 2 Points of essence loss, well those Karma buys a normal adept not even 1 Point in the end.
So you start using optional rules and more and in the end you have the cybered adept using the way of the burnout in addition to biocompability in addition to getting powerpoints instead of initiation techniques.

Can you take any Adept Path as well as the Way of the Burnout, since it is specifically listed as not a true "way"?

Actually, I really don't understand the Burnout way at all. It costs the same BP as the Biocompatibility quality, but what else does it actually do? Do you just pick whatever your old Way was and gain those benefits?

Also, do these Paths count against the standard 35 BP limit?

The wording got snipped a bit in editing, but the intent is that once you lose two Magic from augmentation, you're yoinked off your existing Way and put on the Burnout's one, like it or not -- because you've chosen to take the path of mundane augmentation instead of trusting in your mojo, your adept magic internalizes that choice and reinforces it, by (a) making you a little bit better at handling the strain on your system, but also (b) no longer giving you the discounted powers of your old Way.

But you still have your experience as a Warrior or Athlete or whatever, so you get to keep access to the (less powerful) favored metamagics of a "real" Way.

As written, yes.

Since they were released so long after most Adepts already made their dudes, and since they're optional anyways, I don't -- personally -- see the problem with letting folks stretch the 35 BP Quality limit, myself. Things get pretty cramped Quality-wise without lifting that cap (just look at someone on the Totem's Way, who had to shell out 15 for the Way, plus being an Adept in the first place, plus a Mentor Spirit in the first place)...it adds up pretty fast.

But, Hell, I'm not a big fan of the limit anyways (especially with Martial Arts counting as Qualities), whether we're talking WotA or not, but that's just my opinion.
Tymeaus Jalynsfein
Really, you can ignore Quality limits once play starts (and probably should). They can be bought and removed in play, so there is no reason not to ignore the limits at that point.
