not only that, the bible has several examples of magicians not affiliated with god. there were the court magicians of pharoh; there was the witch of endor, through whom the first king of israel sought advice from his dead vizier; there was simon the sorcerer in the new testament, who tried to purchase the power of the holy spirit--there are probably more, but that's all i can come up with, off the top of my head. the bible never precludes the idea that there are supernatural forces besides god at work in the world--it just says that accessing any of 'em is a sin.

I wasn't nessarily going to go with a biblical explination, but I do like the idea of her having a link to her past in order to do the ritual.
