His point is that they're all also optional, not that they're not core. This is different from D&D (I guess). The 'Core' SR4 books are always described as 'advanced options'.

They may be optional for inclusion, but that does not make them "House Rules."
The books are FULL of OPTIONAL RULES. Whether or not you use them does not make them House Rules all of a Sudden.

Fine, I didn't say that. smile.gif I just said there's a difference between optional core and mandatory core. I don't care about the overall argument at all.

Yeah, splatbooks are optional rules, not house rules.

House rules are stuff you either make up whole cloth, or deliberately alter the way the written rules work.
