A beholder has quite a few eyes. Chances are any number of them are Awesome.
Me? I don't really like beholders. They don't really give good XP past a certain point anyway. Now that Emo-gorgon dude? I could (and did) kill him all day long.

I dunno, beholders can take class levels. In fact, Beholder Mage is an amazing prestige class, and a Elan Psion can qualify for it quite easily.

I'm planning on attempting to convince my next DnD DM to let me play as a beholder, for the sole ability to float around and wave all my eyes in other characters' faces and generally be an annoyance. Unless he/she lets me play as a mind-switched psion sandwich.
