That can be done in SR4.
Phenotypic Alteration i think.
As you said that is phenotypic alteration (i.e. making someone look like something else than he is genetically). IIRC they attempted genotypic alteration (i.e. making them different genetically) in "Changeling".

Alteration of the Phenotype would not change anything for a ghoul, Ork or other creature.

No, that's what i meant.
You lose your MetaType.
Was possible with Surge in SR3 too, but in SR4, you can do it on purpose i think.
I am at work though, so i can't really check <.<

Glad someone got to that reference before I did.

BTW, pay attention to the end. Finnland makes a daring move.

Iron Sky was not the worst movie I've ever seen. It was pretty bad, but in that excellent B-movie way. smile.gif If anything hurts it, it's the reliance on Sarah Palin references.

I dunno, Stahlseele, I would be surprised to find you can actually change your metatype. Hide it, sure, but a Slay [Troll] spell knows the truth.

Precisely.
Just the point I was making was that Finnland was the only nation NOT to arm their space station, yet still participated in the final melee.
Yerameyahu
So, Moon Nazis + Nazi Ghouls (Hellsing) gives us Moon Nazi Ghouls (Nazi Moon Ghouls?). Please form an orderly line to join this new SR4 campaign!

Weren't most of them Nazi Vampires?

Numerically, I recalled tons of ghouls?

There's actually two references in there, but one of them is a Brony one.
I noticed. After the Ending.

It was quite a funny movie. "Zat's not a Komputah! ZIS is a Komputah!"
As i said, i'd need to check the books to find the truth about that, and if you are genetically a Human, no, the Slay Troll Spell won't work on you.
'Cause magic is dumb.

Not from what I heard (was unable to verify myself, due to poor quality and a lack of knowledge on country flags)

Are we seriously avoiding spoilers of *Iron Sky*? biggrin.gif

Seeing how that movie is not all that old yet, yes, yes we are . .

thread topic took a left turn at Albuquerque...
Yerameyahu was correct about the virus; it is never referred to as an awakened bug, nor dual natured. Part of the problem is, people haven't been able to entirely nail down what it is or does.

What has been confirmed is that it is a retrovirus. As defined:
Retrovirus
A family of RNA viruses containing a reverse transcriptase enzyme which allows the viruses' genetic information to become part of the genetic information of the host cell upon replication.
[ Spoiler ]

Quite simply, it unravels you and remakes you at a chemical level, smaller than cellular. New cells continue to spawn the virus, which then rewrites even more cells. This is why it always breeds true: children born to infected who were changed are genetically different than their normal grandparents on a fundamental level.

Now, this would mean 2 things; the first is the implication that your genetic makeup is absolutely responsible for any awakened state. "Dormancy" is a term used many times in the book. This also explains why mages react so differently to medicine.

The second is that this is happening on a level that is smaller than cellular life. A magical approach does not necessarily mean a better approach. Awakened ingredients can be functional as ingredients only, without being around magic. Therefore there is no anecdotal evidence to suggest that a background change or magical void would in any way effect the virus. Logically, it would be something that a corps would have thought up long before a PC in 2070.

Simply by the RAW, shouldn't infected characters make up about 99% of the world's population by now?
Yerameyahu
… Welcome to the discussion? biggrin.gif There's a reason Patrick Goodman wrote the unofficial errata, hehe.

On the other hand, no. The RAW specifically talks about how limited the disease is, so it clearly shouldn't take over the world. smile.gif And they're honestly easy to kill if you *don't* go touching them. Many people have pointed out that the (dual-natured) ghouls can't go anywhere without projecting mages and Spirits of Man just stunbolting them to death on sight.

I know the megas have the money and expertise to do it, but do they have sufficient presence and lab space in mana voids to conduct this research.

There should be one on THE MOOOON! smile.gif Awesome. Oh crap, Moon ghouls! Best campaign ever…

I was thinking that space station ghoul research could be a bad idea ...

Johnson: We have, er, lost contact with a space lab where we have been doing some classified research. We want you to go in there with a team of our researchers and CorpSec and find out what is going on ...
Falconer
Yeah, take a look at what happens to a dual natured beasty when it's astral side is exposed to a rating -7 or lower mana void!

Insert long hallway with body slicing lazer system here...
The Jopp
Location: Dark Side Of The Moon
Facility: Not a Nazi Base
Actual Facility: Research Moonbase "Green Well"

Moonbase Green Well is essentially a large bored hole in the ground, about a kilometer wide and about 500 Meters deep. It took 10 years to build by drones and to keep concealed.

1. Concealed Landing bay
2. Hangar
3. Workshop
4-10. Storage
11-15. Living Quarters
16-22. Corporate Offices
23-30. Laboratories
31-35. Hydrophonics
36-40. Atmospheric Processors
41-45. Reactor levels
46-50. Buffer Security Zone
51-70. Test Subject Habitats
71-80. -REDACTED-
81-90. -REDACTED-
91-100. Unknown

The station was designed so that one could safely study the effect of mana field induced diseases and toxins. With a mixture of magically active subjects with several known diseases and other somewhat unknown supernatural abilities in the 2050's they wanted to find out what they were up against.

The station have a somewhat stable mana field (Magic 2) due to a wide spread of groomed vegetation and supernatural plants and fungi. The corporation who built the station was bankrupt in 2065 due to the crash and all contact was lost with the research base - including it's 105 inhabitants and researchers - And its 200+ test subjects.

The facility was designed to be fully self contained and included a very large contingent of drones that could support each others with repairs of themselves and the facility.
10%: Facility Utility Drones [Cleaning Drones]
20%: Gardening Drones [To keep all the plants alive]
25%: Security Drones [To keep anyone unathorized from leaving the facility.
20%: Top side mining and maintenance drones
15%: Technical Support Drones
10%: -REDACTED-

It is now 2075 and someone has picked up a weak signal from the dark side of the moon...

EDIT: There, 10% fixed ^_^

You're missing 10% in your drone calculations. 10+20+25+20+15 = 90
