The decrease is not linear. For instance, VCRs [1-3] are at 1, 2 and 3 now, while Wired [1-3] still cost 2, 3, and 5.

Side note on wired reflexes not going down in essence cost. Wired reflexes get you a lot less than they used to. In SR1-4 it was fairly easy to get a 3 action street sam at char gen(if you min-maxed in 1-3 you could get 4 without too much effort), but the normal had a hard time getting 2 actions. Now in SR5 3 action street sam is still doable, but 2 action normal without any ware is fairly common as well. Then they went to one attack per pass in SR5 which means the benefit of going multiple times has gone down as well. So wired is probably 2-3 times less powerful than it was in previous editions, and it still costs the same essence as before. Now I expect people who play street sams will still get it, not because it is awesome but because everything else they could do with that 3 essence just sucks even more.

Without seeing the maneuvers that the VCR reduces the threshold for it is hard to tell if it is worth its essence past the you need this to rig fucntion.

So rigging uses Matrix passes, sammies get less for their wireless reflexes...

hmmm...

So if I get a sammie wearing Elemental style power armor using a VR rig to control it like a Mini-Mech.......

The best of both games and not having to haul 50 tons of metal around biggrin.gif

just curious but:
why are you all okay with the useable essence being lowered?
that's the one thing the mundanes need to shine to put in toys.

Delta grade ware at .5 essence and only 2.5 cost sure helps make up for not getting half cost on the less of the two.

Not really, if you count in the x3 multiplier for the base price in some/many circumstances. As two SR5 authors now pointed out: the nuyen price is estimated to either stay the same or go way up.

The price going up would pretty much have me throw up my hands in disgust as that was essentially the only bone thrown to 'wared characters in "Frag you Street Sam" edition.
Chance359
but is there a solution? Cheaper Augmentations would be nice (looking at you bioware) and be more inline with SR4, but I dont see that working.

If i got it correctly there is no way to increase your reaction more than that +2 from synaptic-booster (at character creation).

And a cybered guy has the option to get Wired Reflexes AND Reaction Enchancement (for a compared boost of +4/ +5). Later then, cyberware is cheap, and you can get beta/ delta easily while bio is expencive. I think it depends on how much Nuyen your GM throwing around, but since there are strict rules for moneyrewards i think to go cyber is a vergy very good option.

Wired and Reaction Enhancement together max out at +4, anything above +4 doesn't stack. They only stack when wireless is on don't forget.
Stahlseele
And ware does not get cheaper in game either.
It only gets more expensive in game than it is in chargen O.o
Which, given what's pointed at as a reference payout, means it's well out of reach usually.

Wait really.

I thought the whole point of that Wireless bonus was to let them break the normal +4 limit.

That's so dumb it makes my head hurt.
Stahlseele
Does it say that anyhwere?
Not to my, admittedly small, knowledge . .
Umidori
Binarywraith may (working off CitM'm post that he quoted) be refering to +4 at character creation, which would be accurate as both pieces of cyberware would be limited to Rating 2.

Yeah, apparently I didn't clearly write that. The proper quote is :

Wireless: The system is compatible with wireless reaction
enhancers, and the total Reaction bonus from
both systems can be above +4 if both systems have
wireless active.

They still only stack if wireless is on, and yeah +4 is the best you can do at chargen.

QUOTE
Wired reflexes: This highly invasive, painful, life-changing operation adds a multitude of neural boosters and adrenaline stimulators in strategic locations throughout your body work to catapult you into a whole new world where everything around you seems to move in slow motion. The system includes both manual and wireless triggers to turn the wired reflexes on and off; activating or deactivating the trigger manually requires a Complex Action, doing so wirelessly is a Simple Action. When activated, each rating point of wired reflexes gives you +1 Reaction (and accompanying bonus to Initiative) and +1D6 Initiative Die. Wired reflexes are incompatible with augmentations that affect Reaction or Initiative.
Wireless: The system is compatible with wireless reaction enhancers, and the total Reaction bonus from both systems can be above +4 if both systems have wireless active.

Edit: Damn, beat me to it

How hard is it to get Delta ware? Is it a "sell your soul to a megacorp" type deal?
Umidori
It traditionally was next to impossible to get Delta-ware, even if you somehow got the cash for it. It seems like the new reduced price is intended to make it something you're supposed to be able to get, but they don't seem to have bothered to address the in-world aspect of the rarity of delta clinics.

Stahlseele
Also, the increased base price means it's still horribly expensive.
Base Skillwire Level 6 = 0,6 Essence and 120k Nuyen.
Delta Skillwire Level 6 = 0,3 Essence and 300k Nuyen.

And this is a perfectly legal to own device as well.

Ever watched The Third Man, or at least know roughly what it is about?

I have had characters with Delta Grade Ware in the Past...
My Cyberlogician and the Oni Ninja stand out as good examples of such things. smile.gif

Though to be honest, it was pretty difficult to get them, and took some time and a lot of hard work. smile.gif

I remember the gold old days when wired reflexes were just on. None of this I have to waste a pass activating them crap when my mage and adept get to sit pretty with their bonuses on all the time. Over the editions they really went out of their way to make the street sam suck at his defining characteristic.

I actually like the cost for the skill wires, I just would have made active softs much much cheaper.

quite frankly, the entire setting is not very well defined in the core book. whoever that reviewer was that griped about how much space in the book was "wasted" on history clearly doesn't like the setting very much, because the amount of the book that they used to explain the setting was probably less than half of what the authors would have liked to have available just to cover the big events.

so quite frankly, if they didn't mention anything about how common delta clinics might be, well, it's hardly the only piece of missing information. they're going to have to update the sixth world almanac and re-release it for 5th edition if they want to really introduce new players to the setting =S

But see its so much easier to retcon shit out of things when you don't bother with the history of the setting at all wink.gif
