Of course there is, because Technomancers need more ability to wholesale replace all technical classes. ohplease.gif
On the flipside, Corporations aren't trying to cut open the Decker/Rigger's Head to see how the Cybernetics work. They already know, they built them. TMs, OTOH...

they made the hacker/rigger dividing line virtually nonexistent in SR4, leaving no real barrier to Technomancers.
My #1 hate about SR3 was quite the opposite. It seemed silly have artificial limitations between rigging and hacking. Having the hacker able to server as back up rigger and vice-versa worked well in our SR4 games. I hope the two are still very capable of transitioning roles easily.

Bull the Ork Decker was easily able to play both roles in SR2 and SR3. It just took an investment in money and karma to do so.

And Panther Assault Cannons!

Panther Assault Cannons aren't an investment, they're a gift.

The kind of gift that keeps on giving. love.gif

I'm not saying the previous state of riggers was good, quite the contrary. But now everybody who occasionally wants to jump into a drone, without crazy dicepools or anything, got the short end -- while dronomancers don't even get that.

And of course it's a massive retconn of technological capabilities, now you HAVE to get a massive implant for something which was previously possible with trodes.

And this is a bad thing? Show me where a mundane who want to cast spells can pick up just one spell on the side.

Some things should require investment to be able to even try. This isn't new, isn't bad design, and I'm glad to see the idea of a rigger means something once again.

Actually..... pg 26 in Street Magic had the Spell Knack Quality which ONLY pure Mundanes (No casters/tm or even latents of either) could take to let you cast ONE spell with an effective magic rating of 1 which can never be raised. Whether it makes it into the SR5 Magic splat books down the road remains to be seen. nyahnyah.gif

But your point is taken.

...which was about as useless as trying to multi-class in D&D 4e.

So there should be reviews coming out now, right?

So, very occasionally useful, but really never enough to actually work for the concepts it is suited to?
tasti man LH
From my perspective, yes.

Unless if you went for a Combat spell, but even then, I'd imagine you would just be a minor inconvenience to the other guy at best.

Not something I would EVER see anyone take, even for RP opportunities (which is already kind of on the fringe).

I'd rather stick with the possibilities of Latent Awakening.
Sendaz
Or just take shapechange which you just plan to use on yourself.. aka Manimal nyahnyah.gif
RHat
There's a bunch of Detection spells it could still be useful with, as well as Shapechange.
Sendaz
yeah, the detections could be played off as a supernatural instinct thing.

Agent Jinx in Warehouse 13 for instance has the quirk with Analyze Truth.

Great for questioning baddies, lousy when your boyfriend is cheating on you. wink.gif

If you want to compare rigging with magic SR4 was Earthdawn, where everybody can do a little magic. If that suddenly changed, it would be a rather heavy-handed change.

Has anyone seen the revised critter powers in the back of the book (if they are even there) or other descriptions for Spirits.

I recall someone mentioning they were redoing critter armors, powers and spirits in particular a bit, so would be curious what they may list....

I can confirm that. this was perfectly possible. It just wasn't as cheap and easy as in SR4. Though, you could even build viable commlinks in SR3, if you worked your way through the deck construction rules.

A Control Rig 1 for 1 essence does make a decker/rigger combination very feasible if expensive.
Course Riggers are always expensive.

Hey How much are drones going for in SR5?

Can you still pick up a brand new Steel Lynx combat drone (5K) for less than a Suzuki Mirage bike (6.5K)?
First time I saw that I thought they had left a zero off of the price.

Drones--------------------------Handling accel speed pilot Body armor sensor avail cost
Suzuki Mirage (Racing Bike)-----+2 20/50 200 1 6 4 1 — 6,500¥
Steel Lynx (Large)--------------0 15/40 120 3 4 9 3 12R 5,000¥
GM-Nissan Doberman (Medium)-----0 10/25 75 3 3 6 3 6 3,000¥

I didn't know what Spell Knack did. God, I want to play with that. I hope they include it in SR5.

Well just remember it's effective Magic 1 and you can not raise that EVER, but can learn the sorcery or conjuring skills to become better at it.

Just remember that with a Magic of 1 if you choose force 2 or higher and roll more than the 1 hit, you are looking at Physical drain.

Still it can add a fun wild card to the mix.
