<"Will do,"> Sammy send before adressing the spirit via their mental link.
'Can you please use your accident and confusion powers on the target.'

Will do, the spirit came back, sending out the powers towards his target.

[ Spoiler ]

Crossbow
The air spirit materializes above the shack, floating in the air. It resembles nothing more than a small thickened stick figure with an African mask twice the size of its body for a head. It gestures at it's target and only O'Conner can see the result. The man on the roof of the small shack had been prepared to launch himself to another perch, but instead his foot swept out from under him, his grip on the peak of the roof being the only thing to save himself from a tumble to the ground.
Necrogigas
O'Connor finally had eyes on the target. He aimed for the sneaky fragger's legs.

Crossbow
The suppressed burst catches the target right across both kneecaps, this causes him to lose his grip and fall out of sight of O'Conner and into view for Torley and Starlet as he hits the ground.

O'Conner does hear the soldiers in the street behind him respond to the gunfire, exchanging words he doesn-t understand, but can probably guess the meaning of.
pbangarth
Conflicting thoughts run through Torley's mind as he rushes to get a hold of the fallen man.

"Oh, shit, the guards will hear that!"

"Holy shit! What a shot that was!!"

He messages, <Thanks, O'Connor. We see him now.>
farothel
<O'Conner, draw away those guards> Sammy send to him, <me and Torley have the dude>

"C'mon," she said to Torley, moving to the guy. When they got there, she called her spirit.
Please use your power of concealment and us three, but make it so that we can still see each other, she said, indicing herself, Torley and their target.

"Come with us quietly, and I'll heal those legs for you," she said, "you know there's a lot of people after you. I can also turn you over to some of them if you want."
Necrogigas
O'Connor yelled into his commlink, hoping the guards might overhear, <"I pegged the slippery bastard. I'm headed towards the Area Boys compound."> O'Connor ran in that direction.
Crossbow
As O'Conner hustles away from the rest of the group, he can still hear more chatter from the soldiers he saw before and a lot of movement in the streets coming from the marketplace. He also hears someone coming up the stairs he used.

[ Spoiler ]
Necrogigas
O'Connor continued his farce, but kept an ear out for the guy coming up behind him.

Since the mess at the bar, Torley had been chastising himself for not using the Voice to get the target to stay still. Now as he and Sammy approached the downed target, he got beaten to the punch by Sammy, who gave a good, calm suggestion to the target. Oh, well. Not always the center of attention, huh, boy?

He moves to the side of the target to give him a different angle in case action was required.
pbangarth
Torley sees Sammy's words make a slight impression on the fallen target. Building on that, he fires the Voice at the man, "Listen to us!"

[ Spoiler ]

Once that drills into the man's consciousness, Torley makes Sammy's pitch all over, with the gift of gab behind it. "You are in deep shit. The King's guards are around the corner from here, looking for you. {{{Igbo and Yoruba: The King's men come." }}} "You know very well what will happen to you if they get a hold of you. The last of it will be your body dumped in some swamp. We want to talk, to negotiate. We don't want to give you to the King. And we won't let the guards get you ... not alive anyway. We need you alive, but not if you fail to cooperate.

" The state you're in, you'll never make it to the Area Boy's compound in time. In a safe place we will fix you up and talk. The choice is yours. Live with us or die with them. Decide."

He repeats the live or die option in Yoruba and Igbo.

Crossbow
The use of Commanding Voice snaps the young adept's attention away from his wounds. When he is able to grasp the seriousness of his situation, he says "I will go with you." and asks for the runners help in walking.

On the rooftops, O'Conner has managed to put some distance between himself and the Yoruba soldier following him, but both the Marketplace and the Area Boys Compound ahead of him are coming alive with activity.

The soldier will try two short bursts he reaches the top of the stairs.

Soldier shooting, 2 bursts: 7d6t5 1 4d6t5 0

pbangarth
Torley shares a glance with Sammy as the sound of the shots reaches them. "Sounds like some fool of a guard started a gunfight with O'Connor.

"This could be our chance to sneak out of here while he ties them up. Shall we go? And let him know we are booking it?"

Torley grabs the hurt man under the arms from behind and lifts him, putting one of the man's arms over his shoulders and holding him around the waist to steady and support him.
farothel
"Sounds like a plan," Sammy said. She let Torley support him for now, ready to help if needed, but she would like to have her hands free in case something happened. With the spirit concealing them they should be able to get out and if not, she could still make the guy invisible if needed.
<O'Connor, we're moving out with the mark, back to base. Try to shake those soldiers and meet us there, ok.>
pbangarth
To himself, Torley thinks, "Whew. I was afraid she would want us to go get involved in the fight. I don't do fight very well."
Necrogigas
O'Connor had to only lean down a bit to dodge the poorly aimed gunfire. O'Connor continued towards the Area Boy base. Hopefully the ignored soldier would call for back up, draw more of them away.

As the two of them escort the adept towards their base, Torley puts out a feeler to determine the state of mind of their charge.

"You sure did get under the skin of the King with that heist. An admirable show."
farothel
Sammy didn't say anything, but kept looking around as they made their way back to their hotel. The spirit's concealment power should keep most people from noticing them, or, if they saw them, from recognising them, but she knew its power wasn't absolute.
Crossbow
With the gunfire behind him and an Area Boys compound coming alive in front of him, life is about to get very interesting for O'Conner if he is planning to hang around.

OOC: Necrogigas, you can roll initiative and give me your first action, or first and second if you are planning Active defense.
Necrogigas
O'Connor figured that his snipe hunt ploy had gone as well as it could. He might be able to make use of the soldiers though. He commed Torley, <"How fast can you get the idol's location? If the Area Boys have the thing, I'd rather break into the compound while I have all this freely available muscle to distract them rather than come back with just us.">

Seemed like he was about to take fire from both sides. He tried to move to a position where the Royal Army and Area Boys would, in effect, be firing at each other when they missed him. Hopefully they'd actually start firing at one another before too long.

He felt the adrenline begin to course through his body. The gunmen surrounding him began moving in slow motion. He liked to imagine he could hear their grips tightening around triggers and hammers striking forward. He smiled gleefully as things were about to pop off. It was only in these moments where he felt alive. Moments where a few centimeters and a handful of milliseconds were the dividing line between life and death.

Torley answers. <The man is not all that talkative at the moment. Keep safe, big guy, even if it means we have to backtrack. >
Crossbow
O'Conner is now taking fire from both directions, Area Boys in the compound and the soldiers behind.

O'Connor weaved through most of the gunfire, with more near misses than he cared to admit. One of the Area Boys finally hit the mark. His armor took the first round, but the second grazed him. It was insignificant on its own, but the little wounds added up quick. He looked for a spot of cover and hoped the crossfire expanded everyone's target list.

[ Spoiler ]
Crossbow
As Con rolls off a building he is happy to hear shouting and gunfire erupting all over the area as soldiers start fighting the Area Boys. It is going to be classic long term battle, the Area Boys will have numbers and reinforcements, but the squad of soldiers will have better gear and tactics. Best of all he has a clear shot at getting out of dodge, the lagoon in front of him is clear.
Necrogigas
O'Connor ducked between two shacks to take a short breather. He contacted the others, <"You're in the clear, army's busy shooting it out with the Area Boys. Starlet, since our new chummer isn't talking yet, can you get your spirit to search the compound for the idol? If it's here, I don't want to leave and give the Area Boys time to move it, or the army time to find it."
farothel
<'As soon as we're out of the area and I don't need it to conceal us,'> Sammy replied back.
Crossbow
The adept currently hopping painfully between the runners manages a question in English through gritted teeth. "What is it you are seeking?"
pbangarth
Uncharacteristically, Torley decides not to put any kind of spin, or prevarication into the pitch.

"You stole an idol from the King. An impressive act, I might add. He wants it back and has sent his own people plus some other teams, all vying to get it back. The King has an auction about to go on. Our benefactor wants to be invited. The King will invite our benefactor if we bring the idol back to him. We have no attachment to the political reasons for the theft, nor do we have any emotional attachment to punishing the thief. All we want is to get our hands on the idol, and return it to the King. As far as I can see, we are the only group that doesn't want to hurt you. Present experience notwithstanding." A bit of a wry grin accompanies that.

"We would like to negotiate. We can heal you. If the idol gets back to the King, there is no reason for any of the other teams to go after you, except the guards, who have a personal reason to restore their cred with the King. Your friends the Area Boys are currently in a gunfight with the King's guards. Once it becomes clear what the fight is about, the Area Boys will likely want a word with you about bringing professionals to fight them. We have means to get you out of the public eye for a while, long enough for the heat to die down, both from the guards and from your friends.

"If any of the others gets possession of the idol, we lose out, and have no reason to negotiate, help, or hide you. Working with us is the path of least damage and pain for you. Your near future, and possibly your life, is in your hands."

[ Spoiler ]
Crossbow
Silence mumbled something in Igbo, then switched back to English "I was hired to steal the idol, if you heal my knees and let me go on my way, I will tell you who has it now."
pbangarth
Torley considers that for a moment. "Once we are in a safe location we can do the healing." He glances at Sammy who may not be as ready to do so right away.

"Giving a name is not enough, though. We need some more info to help us believe you are not just feeding us false lead to get away. Location. Why this party has it. How they would secure it. That kind of information is valuable."
Crossbow
"Yes, yes." he replies, "I understand" He winces as he takes a harder hop.
pbangarth
"Alright," Torley says. "A teammate of ours is near the gunfight going on between the Area Boys and the King's guards. If the idol is not in the Area Boys compound, tell that much to me now. Our friend shouldn't stay near the compound if there is no need to be there."
Crossbow
"No, it's not there."
pbangarth
< O'connor, the idol is not there, according to our informant. Get yourself to safety.>
Necrogigas
O'Connor acknowledged Torley and made his way out of the vicinity of the firefight. He gave Lil' Homie instructions to link back up with the team, it was time to leave.
Crossbow
Lil Homie is waiting for you at an assigned location with the van and driver you used earlier, in spite of the growing calamity in the neighborhood you left behind, though you can see as you pile in that the driver is not happy to have not asked for a larger retainer.

As you arrive back at your hotel, you all notice a lack of Area Boy looky-loos, but the slab of beef that was connected to Mr. Englebrecht is still on hand, though he has moved to take up residence inside the courtyard instead of on the street, and is enjoying the manager's beer.
Necrogigas
O'Connor pulled Torley aside as they exited the cab at the hotel. He motioned towards the goon, "Your fanboy is still hanging around. I'll deal with him. You square things with the cabbie. We don't need him snitching." He approached the muscle head, "What's up omae?" His body language belied his greeting. He was a predator taking the measure of another predator.
pbangarth
Torley slipped the driver triple the expected fare. "Good driver," he said. "A driver who keeps quiet about his passengers can expect more work. Give me your contact info."

Then, as O'Connor occupied the slab of beef, Torley helped the injured man into the hotel.
Crossbow
The driver is very happy to give Torley his info after the naira is passed over (600), he will even promise to wait an hour if they need further service.

---------------------

"Cool you jets and have a dap, OOOH-MAE." his accent makes the slang sound foreign before his mocking tone makes it ridiculous, he taps the side of his skull as he drinks beer from a clean glass. "Real time surveillance link to Mr. Englebrecht, audio and video, he already knows you have a wounded local at your hotel, he might even already know who it is. No reason to get your ass beat just yet, besides fighting in the compound means immediate eviction." He points to a chair at the table in easy reach of the beer.
Necrogigas
Without Snow, there was nothing to be done about the surveillance. O'Connor gave a small nod, conceading the point, "Suppose a fight would be pointless. Damage already done." He took the seat while trying to remember if Snow, or maybe Jane, gave the team a run down on this Englebrecht guy. All O'Connor could dredge up off hand was that the guy's kid was a grade-a prick.
Crossbow
The Muscle looked fairly impressed and even handed Con a beer, "That went much better than expected, word from Seattle is that you are the hothead of your crew, that the chink tusker is the only professional. Glad see that was wrong."

------------------

Upstairs Peaceful seems quite starstruck at Silence's arrival, he helps the team get him comfortable and even offers him some of his liquor, which is accepted gratefully.
Necrogigas
O'Connor took the beer. Before he could enjoy it however, the goon started spouting off racist bulldrek. O'Connor regretted having to take a nonviolent approach, "The term you're looking for is nip. She's Japanese, not Chinese. You should really use the right slurs. Otherwise, you'll just come off as an ignorant jackass."
Crossbow
The bodyguard seems unperturbed. "Does it really matter which drekpile she crawled from? She is animal either way." He sips from his glass. "It is no wonder you feel they are your equals, with the cesspool you grew up in, but you should really consider better companions in the future."
Necrogigas
O'Connor placed the beer on the table untouched. He was rather unimpressed with the goon's worldview, "You have something important to say? Or is the Humanis recruiter pitch all that's happening here?"
Crossbow
"Humanis is a fine organization, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for an invitation from them, wasn't that your crew that slaughtered the chapter on that car racing field? No, I would just suggest that should you or your friend Torley come into possession of something Mr. Englebrecht wants, you would find him a much more generous employer than some dandelion eating duiwel."
Necrogigas
It actually took O'Connor a moment to remember the fight being referenced. The fact they'd even been connected to that little speedbump on The Mountain Run meant Englebrecht might know damn near everything. Hell, he might even know what they actually did in the Tir. The team still didn't know what they did. He mentally groaned, *Who in the fragging hell did you get us tangled up with here Torley?* O'Connor looked at the goon skeptically when he made his pitch, "And should Torley and I expect you and a few buddies dogging our steps to ensure we make the right choice?"
farothel
Sammy helped to bring the guy up and took position at the door where she could keep an eye out on things and hopefully also hear stuff if it happened in the hallway.
Crossbow
The big Afrikaner waved off that concern, "No, just be assured that should you pass on the opportunity that Mr. Engelbrecht does not offer second chances, and he is a dangerous enemy to have."

---------------

Upstairs, Silence is looking at his two saviors expectantly. "So, is someone going to do something about my knees?"
Necrogigas
"Noted." O'Connor rose from the table, "Thanks for the beer." He left it on the table untouched. He headed upstairs to the team's room.
pbangarth
Seeing Sam's body language, Torley assured the man, "Yes. We just had to make sure an incident didn't happen down the hall. Things seem to be settling now."
