This is the Downtime Disccussion Thread for my Group at Game Theory. I would ask that my Non-Players do not post to this thread.

1. What Mods are being put on the plane, and who is putting them on? I know that you are putting on an Expanded Sensor Array, and moving the Missile Defense System from the Citymaster

2. Modding Weapons- I know you were doing some of that, building automated Sniper Turrets. Anything Else?
Poit-Narf
I'm pretty sure that between me and Mr. Weaponmaster, we can handle any of the vehicle/weapon mods.

By the way, while I'm busy making rating 6 vehicle sensors, which vehicle is higher priority - the citymaster or the skytrain?
krayola red
"Gee Brain, what are we gonna do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world!"

...Okay, I'm leaving now.

if we take off the ecm like we were talking about, then we would get 10k more to spend. Tom I'll be taking what we were talking about yesterday

first off weapons that im buying are
2X ares desert strike
with mods for both including
electronic firing
easy breakdown(powered version)
and chameleon coating

2X smart firing platform
3X scopes with thermal, vision magnification image link and, smart link (one for missile launcher below)
as well as 2 silencers
and if im not mistkaen our code monkey cluster was working on improved pilot software(wont be done for a while)

weapons currently being considered (dependng on budget and time to procure them)
1X phalanx vogeljager (22F 8750) pg 31 arsenal
3X AV missles (rating 5 sensors) 3500 each 25F

from what i heard we had a weapons dealer contact but the costs would be increased 20% or something along those lines as well as a large delay in procuring them

Yeah- To Buy Item on the Black-Market
QUOTE
If a character wishes to purchase a controlled item on the black market, make a Negotiation + Charisma Extended Test
with a threshold equal to the Availability and an interval based on the item’s cost (see the Availability Interval table, p. 303).

With a Black Market Contact, You can use his connection instead of Negotiation .

Since you are looking for Milspec stuff, there is 50% markup due to LS crackdown.

okay we will do the rolling etc next session, just giving you a heads up on what im going for

Or you could give your dice pools, and I will roll.
Poit-Narf
Also, since we're doing lots of extended test type stuff, I'm going to ask the mage (can't remember character name at the moment) to summon a spirit to put Guard on us - no glitches makes rushing a job much easier.
Poit-Narf
Also... what mods are we ending up with on the citymaster & the skytrain?

And what kind of guns do the turrets have?

I don't have a list, unfortunately.

However, the Skytrain has a Non-Concealed Light Autocannon, while the roadmaster have a hidded mini-gun, and a Pain inducer.

on page 95 of unwired it talks about forging nuyen, why not buy a bunch of blank credsticks and have the botnet forge us a bunch of money
Poit-Narf
Because I haven't finished coding my Forgery autosoft yet.
Rad
We already have a ton of (poorly) forged credsticks from that last run in Hong Kong. I thought the plan was to systematically launder them through low-rating transactions like stuffer shack purchases, then use the money to put a bounty on the jackass Yakuza boss who set us up?

Not to rip off ATHF (or admit that I've watched it), but I still want to be eating my cereal out of that guy's f--king skull.

As for weapons, a little late, but here's the specs for my latest dronegun, for the rest of the board's amusement and horror:

This is from my original notes, I can't recall if we were able to copy that rating 6 Targeting Autosoft or not. Think we did. Also, I traded in my one of my old droneguns to help cover the costs/parts needed. Working on getting my comlink/programs upgraded with the money we got.

For those unfamiliar: "Melee Foregrip" is a GM okayed tweak on the foregrip mod. Replaces the guns original grip with a forward-mounted one that allows you to punch people while holding the gun, instead of providing recoil comp. Trigger Removal and the houseruled "Trigger Replacement" cover moving the trigger to it's new location.

The concept:

The gun's pilot is programed to interface with my character's smartlinked glasses, subvocal mic, and the shock frills on my armor via skinlink, as well as the team's tacnet. If my shock frills discharge, the drone gun fires, shooting along the line of my fist and hitting the person I just punched. Alternately, I can designate a target via subvocalized voice command and casually sweep the arm carrying the dronegun towards and past the target. The pilot interfaces with the data from my glasses, and at the moment the image in the smartgun's camera matches the target image in my glasses, it fires.

Essentially the gun waits for it's shot and then takes it, as if it were the target/scene moving through it's field of vision while it remained stationary. It's like waiting for a guy to step out from behind cover.

The result? My character can walk into a room and wave his arms around like Chow-Yun Fat dual-wielding pistols in a Hong Kong action flick, and the guns will fire themselves whenever they move over the designated targets. The best part is that the drone guns have a higher dicepool than me, and with the new one, I don't even have the right skill to fire it manually.

Lets just hope this little innovation never catches on, or you'll have untrained security grunts shooting holes in you with droneguns. Thankfully it's not very cost-effective, the only real advantage over actual drones is that there's no wireless signal to hack, and it's fragging cool...

...downsides are the guns can't take aim, and the recoil affects my actions as well. That's why I always take my actions first. cool.gif
merashin
well, i would say it makes you look more like John Preston from Equilibrium and your krav maga fits perfectly with Preston
Rad
I'll probably see you today before you read this, but here's what I'm doing with all that nuyen we got. (Should've saved more, but oh well.)

1) Upgrading the Autosofts on all my droneguns to 6

2) Regarding the briefcase for my Drone-SMG:

Smart Firing Platform: Availability 12F 2,000Â¥
Briefcase Disguise (-6) Availability 12 10,000Â¥
Skinlink Availability 6 50Â¥

Basically it's a briefcase-shaped docking port for the SMG. You plug the gun in and relay commands through the case's handle via skinlink, while the case acts as a motorized turret, allowing the gun to orient and aim on it's own like a smart firing platform. You could also set it down on a counter somewhere and let it go to town. I really should get a suppressor when I have the money, so it can shoot people without anyone noticing...

Also, I want to sell off the pilot and autosofts the smart firing platform comes with, and instead have it upload and use the gun's rating 6 software.

3) Stats for my new Drone-Grenade Launcher:

ArmTech MGL12 2,000Â¥
Chameleon Coating 1,000Â¥
External Smartgun System 400Â¥
Vision Enhancement (3) 300Â¥
Vision Magnification 100Â¥
Pilot Upgrade, Rtg 6 15,000Â¥
Clearsight Autosoft, Rtg 6 3,000Â¥
Targeting Autosoft, Rtg 6 3,000Â¥
Extreme Environment Mod (2) 6,000Â¥
Sling 10Â¥

-Ammo-

HE Grenade Clip (12c) 545Â¥
Freeze Foam 6 Grenades (12c) 533Â¥
DMSO/Narcoject Grenades (11c) 965Â¥

Decided on Narcoject over Gamma Scop due to the 400% price difference. Marked off the grenade I used in the Fallout dimension.

4) Regarding the EvoHEL suit:

It didn't occur to me at the time, but my ruthenium overcoat wouldn't have worked if I had this over top of it, so I modded the overcoat and my form-fitting armor to have the mods the HEL suit would have given:

Chemical Protection (2) 500Â¥
Insulation (4) 600Â¥
Radiation Shield (3) 600Â¥

Sorry for the retcons, but we did rush out without taking the time to finalize gear selection. I made sure the mechanics of what I got fit with everything I did out there, so the difference is minimal.

On that note:

Monofilament Chainsaw 300Â¥

I figured this cost in as well. Also bumped my Fake SINs and licenses up from 4 to 6. Would have done this a while back, just been behind on figuring costs between runs--it's been a busy couple months.

Finally, I've worked out a better picture of my armor and how it works together:

There's the form-fitting half-suit, which has the insulation and radiation shield mods.
Over that is my custom jumpsuit, with fire resistance, nonconductivity, and my tweaked out shock frills.

I never liked the mental image of shock frills being "fur", and as I recall the explanation we decided on for why they do more damage than regular shock gloves was that a bigger item could store a bigger power source, so I'd like to fluff them out as being more like electrified brass knuckles with power cables running back up the inside of the sleeve. I added "personalized grip" to the list of mods on the shockfrills to help represent this.

As for the never-described ruthenium item I got in Hawaii, I picture it as a long coat with separate gloves, shoes, and a hood, so it covers the whole body. In social situations I'd set the hood do display a face as though I wasn't wearing anything over my head, while the shoes, gloves, and coat would take the appearance of regular clothing.

The sweet thing about this is I can use the ruthenium as a disguise to change the appearance of what I'm wearing and what the "face" I'm displaying looks like.

The UCAS Air Force detects and shoots down Santa. A large chunk of his sleigh, including his bag of toys and a list detailing where they should be delivered, crashes into the PCs' hideout. The place stinks of burning reindeer flesh and the Metroplex Guard is immediately dispatched to the crash site, so the PCs have no choice but to abandon their safehouse. The GM should strongly encourage them to take the bag and the list with them, preferably delivering the toys to children around Seattle.

Santa himself is nowhere to be found. Before his sleigh went down, he jumped off and landed on one of the fighters that shot him down, driving his claymore weapon focus though the cockpit and killing the pilot before setting the drone autopilot to crash into the White House at Mach 3 and vanishing. The PCs are made aware of this via newsfeeds depicting the carnage; President Colloton was offsite at the time of the impact, but most of her staff died in the attack.

Some point later in the session a news report from the PCs' former safehouse shows a couple dozen Metroplex Guard members with their chests torn open and their internal organs ripped out and replaced with coal. There is no actual footage of the slaughter and authorities remain unaware of what actually did it, though forensic specialists are being called it.

The actual killer is the motherfragging Krampus, who has been unleashed to retrieve Santa's toybag and ensure its contents get delivered. It is an absurdly strong faerie creature (treat as a spirit without an Astral Form and with the ability to move bodily to the metaplanes or from with a single complex action). It wields a birch rod to punish the naughty (does stun that cannot overflow) and has sharp claws to punish the wicked (does physical damage).

The Krampus will eventually catch up with the PCs no matter what they do. If they are attempting to relieved the toys then the Krampus will be on their side, protecting them from any threat with its life. If they are not, however, the Krampus will attempt to kill them. If they dumped the toybag at some point it will try to capture a PC to interrogate.

When the night is over Santa himself will show up. If the PCs delievered the toys then Santa will present them with toys of their own, expensive high-availability weapons and equipment tailored specifically for them, possibly including things like heavy weapons, portable anti-tank missile launchers, maxed-out comlnks, milspec armor, 'ware, high-rating foci, and etc. One per character. If they chose to be greedy and were forced to kill the Krampus in self-defense, then they'll fight Santa instead, and he'll wield those very same toys against them.

this run is so what we need to do when Tom is back from Connecticut

Edit: OOOH, mil-spec vehicles. Those will come in handy later.

Hey, kinda off topic, but this is easier that PMing everyone individually:

I still need to sign up for the winter mini to run that DBZ game again, who's going to be there and what day would be best? I've got a great one-shot campaign in the works--significantly more organized than last time, but still with plenty of multi-hundred-dicepool ki-blasting madness. (And a decent chance of hitting the "Over Nine-Thousand!" trope. wink.gif ) Also worked up an auto-calculating character sheet in excel to speed up chargen.

It runs from Friday the 16th to Monday the 19th, so let me know when would be a good day.

Also, when are we going to start our regular Shadowrun and Cthulhu Tech games again?

PS: I'm toying with the notion of making this an ongoing campaign, and just bringing it out at each of the events and whatnot. Don't think I have enough of a social life left to make it a more regular game, but it'd be interesting to pick it up where we left off each time...

Hey, Guys, it's me, Dan.

Right, I finally found this thread. The freakin' problem why I couldn't find it was that the title was ONE word, not two. Excuse me while I curse like hell.

So I signed up for the winter mini. Didn't hear from anyone about that so I asked for saturday afternoon, we'll see what I end up getting though.

Anywho, sorry about missing the games last week. Stuff came up that kept me rather busy. In related news, my laptop is currently in the police impound, so unless I get it back before the game friday I won't be able to continue playing my character, Rei.

This could work out however, since I was thinking of using that alernate reality doppleganger mission I missed as an excuse to switch characters: We could say Rei ran off with his alternate-reality self and decided to take over that world instead. Leaving me free to start up a new character, and still allowing Rei to complete his ultimate goal of world domination. biggrin.gif

Not totally sure I want to do that, but we'll see how it all plays out. See you guys friday!

I both am curious, and know that I don't want to know.

I don't want the cops knocking on my door at midnight, again.

Meh, my briefcase just got left in my lady's car...

...which one of her roommates then took without permission during a party and ended up getting busted for DUI and driving without a license. The cops stuck him in jail and impounded the car--with my computer still in the trunk.

Anyway, I'll be running the DBZ game on Saturday the 17th from 2pm to 6. It should be pretty awesome so stop by if you can.

Back to Shadowrun:

Now that I've got the nuyen to do it I want to get an alphaware Urban Kshatriya suite for my new character. Problem is I already have some of the ware, and some of it is at a different rating. In particular I have Muscle Replacement 2, rating 3 Cybereyes, and a Projectile Spur, while the suite comes with Muscle Replacement 1, rating 3 Cybereyes with a couple more mods than mine, and two normal spurs.

How should I figure the costs? Bearing in mind that Merashin's cyberware contact can buy and fence all the ware involved thanks to the Black Market Pipeline quality...

I'm pretty sure I've seen posts regarding this kind of thing, but can't find any with the search. Offhand I can see a few ways to do it:

1) Fence all my redundant 'ware, get the suite, then upgrade the necessary components, paying 400 nuyen.gif for the projectile spur upgrade (1,800 - 2,200 = 400), and 5,000 nuyen.gif and 1 point of essence to increase the Muscle Replacement's rating by 1.

(This is not counting the modifiers for being alphaware or the 10% discount for black market pipeline, for simplicity's sake. I'd add those costs back in when actually figuring it.)

2) Get the suite minus the redundant 'ware, subtracting the cost of those items from the package.

3) Buy the full suite and fence the redundant components before having it implanted.

The only real issues are whether you can remove/alter components of a cyberware suite without breaking the synergy, and whether Muscle Replacement 1 can be upgraded, or whether it has to be taken out and replaced.

Also, looking over the rules for fencing gear, it says the base asking price is 30%, and there doesn't seem to be any way to actually raise that--even with Black Market Pipeline. It gives you +3 on the test, but the test only seems to determine when you find a buyer, not how much they'll buy it for. I have to say that kinda' sucks. I guess you could reverse-engineer the rules for paying more to find the item quicker--reducing your dice by 1 for every +25% of the item's base price you want to sell it for. (Over the standard 30%.)

Part of the trouble is because I already bought some of the ware, since I couldn't get the suite right off due to it's availability--even though none of the components have an availability over 12 and they list no rules for increasing it when making a suite. I suppose option 4 is that we just retcon it so that I got the suite and the upgrades just before our last run with that huge advance we got.

Anyway, let me know what you decide, Matsci, so I can finish deciding how to spend this 65,745 nuyen.gif biggrin.gif

[edit] Also, can that whole "extradimensional road-trip" thingie count as a deed for the purposes of initiation? I'm thinking of bringing Rei back considering what I just realized I could do with him, and saying he's been off initiating with his new magical group/tradition.

Think Rastafarian tradition meets industrial anarcho-punk with the Voodoo tradition's spirit list. [/edit]

CHARACTER QUIZ
Sure, you’ve got your character. You’ve got a couple of sheets of attributes, skills, gear, and other tools that will help that shadowrunner gain fame and fortune. But who is this person? Sure, you’ve probably already chosen a sex and a name, and definitely a metatype, but what about the rest of it?

No shadowrunner forms from thin air, and there’s more to a story if there’s more to the characters in it. Here is a brief questionnaire that can help you “know the score about your character. Choose a few (or all) and answer them for your character.

• We are shaped by our heritage. Facial features, skin tone, height, build, metatype, even aptitudes are influenced by the genes passed from parent to child. Attitude, too, is taught by parents, informed by their own lives and their cultural heritage. Where does your character come from, what is her lineage, who were her parents, and what did she inherit from them?

• Parents can be proud of their children or regret ever bringing them into the world. Some are loving, and some are indifferent. All of them are only metahuman and have their own opinions of their children. Assuming they could speak, what would each of your character’s parents say about her?

• Many people remember certain historical events for the rest of their lives. For those alive in the first decade of the 21st century, it could be the assassination of John F. Kennedy, or the Tiananmen Square protests, or the fall of the Berlin Wall, or
the attacks of 11 September 2001. People remember where they were, and what they were doing when they first heard of these events. Shadowrun history has significant events as well, such as the assassination of President Dunkelzahn, the Crash 2.0, and the emergence of technomancers and artificial intelligences. Pick a few events from recent Shadowrun history and ask where the character was at the time, what does he remember about the event, and what was he doing at the time?

• Very few people choose to become shadowrunners. More likely, they are thrown into the life by a chaotic and uncaring
world. Even if she made a conscious decision to enter the shadows, her decision is influenced by the world around her. How did your character get into shadowrunning, and why did she take that path?

• People have control over their own living arrangements. From the child young enough to use crayons and tape all the way up to the elderly shut-in who plasters her walls with family photos and cat pictures, everyone makes their living spaces more personallypleasing. What is your character’s living space like, and what has he added or changed to make it his own?

• Everyone has beliefs, and many have beliefs strong enough to be convictions. Some are religious, some are political, some are social, and some are just about why people are here. What does your character believe in, what are her convictions (if any), and why does she hold them?

• Everyone has aspects of their personality that grate on someone. Even the best of friends annoy one another from time to time. The flaws in a person’s character are as important as the qualities. What do you dislike most about your character’s personality?

• The Sixth World is considered by many to be spinning out of control. If anyone could exert control over it, it would be the
“Big Ten triple-A megacorps. These transnationals exert a lot of influence on everyday life in the 2070s. Which of the Big Ten does your character hold in the highest (or least low) regard, which does he like the least, and why?

• People make acquaintances and friends; we’re hardwired for it. Humans are social animals. This is especially true in the shadows, where often it is not the power you have, but the power you can borrow, and not who you, are but who you know. There’s a story behind each and every one of these relationships. What is the story with your character and her contacts?

• It’s Sunday morning, and your character has no commitments until tomorrow afternoon. What does she do for the day?

• Your character has a specific skill set, a list of Active and Knowledge skills that define what she knows and her areas of expertise. How did she come to learn those skills, and how did she develop them to those levels?

• Everyone has their limits. People can be dark, but most people’s instinct is to draw the line at certain actions and thoughts, and they keep to their own moral convictions. Is there a moral limit that your character enforces on the jobs she takes, and in what shadow work would she refuse to engage?

• If you have an Awakened or technomancer character, consider your character’s tradition and streams. Even within the major established magical traditions and the recently emerged technomantic streams, there is room for personalization. Ask yourself what drew her to that particular paradigm, how does it effect the way she views the world and her magic, how does it translate into choice of mentor spirit or paragon, and how does it affect the appearance of the spirits or sprites you conjure or compile?

• While acceptance and bias vary from place to place, augmentations— be they bio-, cyber-, gene-, or nanoware—are increasingly common and available in the Sixth World. However, personal technological enhancement is rarely cheap, and many implants that runners possess are restricted. How did your character come to have the enhancements she has, how were they paid for, and what motivated the choices she made (if she did make the choices)?

• Life as a shadowrunner is by definition outside the bounds of “normal life. Shadowrunners do not truly fit into the lives of
ordinary people, whether they live in slums or mansions. What does your character think of ordinary life, mainstream culture,
and those who abide by it?

• Everyone has nightmares. Sometimes, we forget the dream completely on waking. Sometimes, the nightmare haunts us or
even recurs. If your character had a lingering nightmare or a deep-rooted fear, what would it be, and why does he find it so
terrifying?

• People tend to attach sentimental value to items in their possession or people they are close to. They make an effort to
keep these close by and safe. What is your character’s “sacred object or “close one, and how did they come to be so important to him?

• One of metahumanity’s greatest assets is its ability to look toward the future and imagine a better life. Even small children
have dreams about what they want to be when they grow up. What did your character want to become when he was a child,
and what are his goals now?

• A person’s appearance can say volumes about him. From fashion sense, to the colors he prefers, to the way he walks and speaks. Sometimes, his personality determines his appearance, and, sometimes, the appearance he chooses to present the world effects his personality. What does your character look like, and what inspired his choices?

• Everyone has a name, but a runner’s street name is a representation of his connection to the shadows. Sometimes runners
choose their own moniker, but more often it is given to them as a nickname or earned through some (mis)adventure. How did your character come to be known by his street name?

Heh, no answer to my questions huh? wink.gif

That's okay, I'll ask you when I see you next time--wonder if we're still playing today, what with the con and all...

Anyway, a chance to make use of my characters' ridiculously overdeveloped backstory--and get karma for it--yay!

[edit] Also, you misspelled kobold. Dunno if that's the right address or just a typo--guess I'll find out when I send it. [/edit]
merashin
no answer to mine either, and he told me that he received them last sunday
Rad
Yeah, I'm still filling out that damn questionnaire from RC--it takes a long time to type all that!

Anywho, I better go soon so I can make it to the game on time. (Damn buses!)

My first run involved being rescued from imprisonment in Hawaii, and shortly thereafter, killing a dragon.

You worked for a Company called, Moloki Microtronics, but were selling information to Mitsuhama, and to ALOHA (Hawaiian terrorists).

Mitsuhama found out about that fact, and decided to off you, but your ass got saved by some shadowrunners.

Anyway, for the Mako and the Boat that you stole.

If people are interested in getting programs from me, here's all the software I keep actively maintained. I'll update this list as I acquire more.

[ Spoiler ]

By the way, I'm going to need Toast to help me out with his Stability power when I spend downtime in the Matrix. I figure that shouldn't be a problem, since we have unlimited tasks from him. Also, when I repair drones/vehicles, his Diagnostics power will be pretty useful too.
