May 27 2005, 06:56 AM
McQuillan:
As I understand it, there's no way for me to stop him from jacking out. There's also no reason to.
I am operating under the assumption that we don't necessarally need to stay right where we are while we're finishing the download. From what I understand, we can move anywhere on this host and force them to spend rounds trying to track us down. Am I correct?
With our detection factors and Evasion ratings, I have to assume it would take a number of rounds to do so. In addition, unless they have initiative's over I believe 40, they can't take more then 2 actions a round out of combat.
In addition, since time flows at something like 5:1 in the Matrix as compared to the outside, by the time this guy has jacked out and jacked back in, even if he did so immediately, enough time would have passed for us to complete the download and logoff. Am I correct in these understandings, McQuillan?
Ecclesiastes
May 27 2005, 04:10 PM
I was thinking we needed to take him out because I was under the assumption that there would be other security deckers online and he just needs to go gather them together.
BishopMcQ
May 27 2005, 10:56 PM
Ecc/Fenris--He doesn't have to Jack out to the meat world. If he knows that there are security deckers in other parts of the system, he just has to jump hosts until he finds them. The process could take anywhere from 1-15 rounds depending on how close they are to this particular sub host.
To keep him from a graceful log-off you can hit him with the equivalent of Black IC. After that happens there is enough interference that you cannot do a graceful logoff.
Fenris--If you take the evade Decker option, it will take a minimum of 3 rounds for them to find you given your evasion ratings and the like.
End sum--unless you want to finish him off, he'll flee and you can all finish the download before anyone catches you. From there, it's just a matter of getting back to the grid and vanishing.
If you are going to let him go, post 3 Access tests as you fade back to the LTG. Or you can pull the plug and dumpshock yourselves...

Sorry, didn't have the exact rules in front of me. If you want to do a graceful logoff, it will be a Willpower test TN 8 because of the spikes of interference and what not created by the Black IC.
If you get out of the host, I'll say you can do a graceful logoff from the LTG without the Willpower test because you have left the host and source of the distortion. (The book never actually says how to get rid of the interference.) A graceful logoff from there will still delete your data trails, it will simply show that someone was inside the REnraku system...a fact already known because you fought three of their Sec Deckers.
Let me know which you'd like to try and I'll bump the thread along.
