We are used to that. Believe me.
LurkerOutThere
Micro payments make me nervous, don't get me wrong i'm perfectly willing to pay for a game but so many of the MP game si've tried havn't even tried to disguise the money sink aspects. On the other hand I'm a huge JA fan so i'm sure i'll get a taste for your take on the business model before SR comes out. smile.gif

I'll be especially interested in potential mutliplayer aspects as there are a lot of folks I've played SR with who are scattered around the country so even that bit of connection would be cool.
CanRay
Country? Man, try the planet! So many folks I'd be really happy gaming with.

Might have to dust off the ol' IRC and try chat before this MMO comes out.

sorry to have gone silent- we are knee deep in jagged alliance online currently, so the rest of the stuff takes a bit of a backseat

Unless you plan to release updates to the game engine that edit bugs back in ... wink.gif

I was just curious, but best of luck with JAO. Hey, if there's any news on that you can maybe just post it here too? Pretty sure many here would be interested. I, for one.

CanRay
Yeah, I'll double the JAO love as well. I really enjoyed the Jagged Alliance universe, and not just for the Canadian References. nyahnyah.gif

And I haven't had IRC working on the last two computers I've had, so I got to re-learn how to use the bloody thing.
warrior_allanon
its not that hard Can Ray, would everyone be willing to get together for an online meet?
Fabe
Jagged alliance online looks pretty cool but I do have one question; from what I've read there are going to be 60 different Mercs in the game, since this is going to be multiplayer does this mean that player might find them selves in a bidding war with others for a mercenary's services. Or will every one's campaign be separate with PvP battles possibly having the same guy on opposing sides?
Marwynn
First off, thank you for taking a very loyal approach to both the game system and setting.

Looking forward to Jagged Alliance Online as well!
primetide
Wouldn't have spammed this with JAO, but on popular demand- first pre-Alpha Previews
http://www.tentonhammer.com/jagged-allianc...eviews/pre-beta

Regarding the Mercs Question...this is surely off topic smile.gif - we discuss JAO at Bear's Pit (toughest Jagged Alliance site on the planet) or on Facebook or in our own Forums smile.gif
Stahlseele
i see you haven't read that much on dumpshock yet . . off topic is par for the course sooner or later in here ^^
of course, sometimes an admin comes and reigns us back in for a while . .
primetide
believe me I know that, but as a guest I thought behaving exemplary would be called for...wink.gif
Stahlseele
Ah, you're one of us now. ^^
Mi casa es su casa and all that ^^
It's commendable though ^^

Thanks. Not only does this take lots of us back to the good old days, so to speak, it's also a similar game as the SR Online game will be, right? So we can make guesses as to what you look to do with SRO from what you do with JAO.

Looks pretty slick. And it's turn based with limited time per turn, did I get that right?
LurkerOutThere
I started a new thread do severything's covered.

Nice newsletter. Its getting better and better. The city overview map with Action Points to spend on contacts, locations, mr johnsons, gear, missions info, etc. is awesome.

Could I suggest the hiring/missions gathering aspect to be based around different "Mr Jonhsons", each with different profiles leading to different kinds of jobs (gang busting, industrial espionage, government jobs, matrix/hacking, criminal underworld, etc), and different payment levels ?

Another suggestion would be to have a matrix overview map analogous to the city one, where you could visit sites and nodes to acquire info or make online deals. (you could even make Shadowland the central hub for "shadow-info" collecting and dealing).

Oh, do you guys think in having just one city, or various ones ? If just one, I vote for Seattle, as its the most "classical" shadow hub of the series. If various, I vote for adding, and detailing, Denver to the pack, as it can be considered the second more "classical" shadowhub on the series.
CanRay
London and Berlin would also be good cities, fleshed out (Although Germany is best done in German). Chicago would be nice for the "Rough Missions" that require an "In and out" long-term mission thread.
primetide
We are definitely going for several cities, exact number is to be confirmed. Seattle, Berlin, Londomn, Paris and perhaps Chicago may be a good mix to start with...
raben-aas
Woot for Berlin! smile.gif
CanRay
Hopefully see some Canadian cities finally fleshed out.

Toronto is a den of scum and villainy already, and that's just in the boardrooms! And Winnipeg is a bordertown now (In Shadowrun), and is fighting to get the Murder Capital and Car Theft Capital Of Canada back...

well we monetize by players paying for stuff they want extra - so depending on how much you are willing to spend for a city, we are open for business wink.gif

hng . . that's probably more than i can afford though ._.
CanRay
Well, now we know how they're going to fund their servers and make a profit... Just get enough Hamburgers together to chip in, Stahl!
Stahlseele
if i could get them to pay, i could probably get about 50k togetheer . .
CanRay
That's a lot of Hamburgers!
Stahlseele
Actually, that's 10 people with whom i play SR from time to time and generally do most of my hanging out with . .
primetide
for that money we can get you in as a major NPC on top wink.gif

Stahl as Lofwyr? That would be impressive...

He'd get the German right, at least.
Stahlseele
but it's highly unlikely that they would be willing to pay that much for my fun <.<
and the worst part: i can understand them there ._.

btw, how are you planning on handling the rhine ruhr megaplex book?
SinN
If this is anything like the xbox game, I dont think Ill be playing. Count me out, mates.
Stahlseele
dude, did you read anything in this thread?
Seriously Mike
Psh, even I bothered to read at least the first few posts.

It's looking more like a turn-based game in the same vein as the original Jagged Alliance 2 or X-Com series. Possible "Real-Time Until Combat, The Turn Based" just like JA2.

I'll let the guy that's actually working on the game talk more, however.

Oh thats right, youre the useless guy with all the knowledge right? grinbig.gif

But, my bust. I grazed through it for a moment. Shoulda read the details.
primetide
so, we established it is nothing like the xbox game smile.gif
what it IS can be discerned in our first newsletter
hermit
Yeah, this game looks actually interesting (I'm still kind of unsure about the browser-basedness, but hey, it seems to work for other online games ...).

Also, I assume they'll handle the RhineRuhr Plex by the upcoming book? biggrin.gif Seems like they plan on using Berlin as a setting in some way. And cooperating with the P&P game designers. And there's pretty good communication with the fanbase (well, us).

Looks suprisingly good, given this combines Shadowrun and Videogame ... but it's not being done by Microsoft mercenaries, so ... could be worth it. I've had my doubts at first but now I'll sure check it out.
Stahlseele
if they do handle the rhine ruhr plex by th eupcoming book, there may be some nice surprises in it for some of us . . rumors have it the people doing it like eastr eggs . .
also, i just realized . . the shadowrun MMO may just be a syndicate MMO o.O
Shortstraw
I do have to point out that the game will have to include at least one Australian city as no game is truly complete without drop bears.
primetide
Hmm, this will become a theme, won't it? wink.gif
Well, as mentioned above we are open for bidding...smile.gif

OMG new nightmare.

Technomancer drop bears.
CanRay
Now my group better hope and pray I never get them back together again...

Might well be closer to the original Syndicate than the new 'Syndicate' FPS is, at least ... no psersuadertron though, I suppsoe, but Mob Mood spells.
Stahlseele
*nods*
that's what i was shooting at! ^^
JonathanC
You guys know that there's another Syndicate remake, right? One that is staying true to the original? It's called Cartel.
Cynewulf
Wow. I have waited a long time for this, ever since 2nd edition.

Best of luck to the Devs.
CanadianWolverine
The game got a news article on PC Gamer here: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/13/shadowru...#comment-141253

We got a better scoop here because primetide aka Jan Wagner rocks.
