primetide
we do intend to do legwork missions - there is some info over at our own forum in the FAQ on that
CanRay
Just announced on their Facebook page, now on the team for Shadowrun Online: Tom Dowd!

What do you ney-sayers say now???
Stahlseele
Trixie says neigh.
Adarael
Nay-sayers will nay-say unto the ends of the earth, because they have already made up their minds. There is a particular psychology in terms of these gamers. I forget the term, but they make up their mind, and cannot be convinced to say positive things about the game. Interestingly, there is an extremely high crossover with people who will buy the game when it's released. It's fairly well documented, but I can't remember WHERE I put the documents.

This image should illustrate the problem, however. Or at least be funny: Modern Warfare 2 Boycott

I'm currently reading Neal Stephenson's Reamde, and all I can say is "I want a Shadowrun MMO so I can enter a virtual world inside my virtual world."
Stahlseele
We need to go deeper.
Make it a BTL-Chip in the first place.
And an Ultra Violet Host in the last place!
General Matrix-Exception!
CanRay
Checking out the Jagged Alliance MMO. So far, it's interesting. Seems very different. Too bad they remembered Ira. nyahnyah.gif

And her horrible voice acting. < Deadpan >"She is evil. A driven bitch."< /Deadpan >

i will just be leaving this here then:

We have contacted Catalyst--all the rest including Tom Dowd approached us. As thius is a purely volunatyr, purely unpaid position, I think it is best if people who are interested approach us, as we have little to offer in terms of recruitment incentives
But we are happy to be recommended

Coming from Primetide himself.

You know what would be complete insanity?
If the game was set in LA and every character had a Persona 2.0 page. Imagine posting screenshots from runs IN CHARACTER. Mind = blown.
Stahlseele
Go to their forum.
Tell them that idea.
Watch Primetide think about it . .
CanRay
I will beat people over P2.0.

See?
I TOLD you so!

Heh heh. Sorry, but I just couldn't get myself to register on another forum just to drop one good idea. That and SR4's Los Angeles has a pretty varied environment, you got skyscrapers, industrial areas, sprawl, barrens (South Central, the flood zone in general and then San Bernardino), labs, hell, you could even turn at least a couple of sunken buildings into toxic spirit dens. Oh, and Shedim.

Regarding contacts - we currently probably will start with staples, but I just thought we may as well allow players to "craft" contacts from "components", which are effectively stats etc.

OH MY GAWD!

YES!

So we're literally going to be building our own friends?

...

I like it! Where's my lightning rod and REALLY BIG KNIFE SWITCH?
Stahlseele
*grmbl*
i hate havong to do writeups of my contacts <.<

Watch the MMO be a mildly updated carbon copy of the 360 game.

"LOL THIS IS WHAT YA'LL WERE TALKING ABOUT, RITE?! smile.gif"
Stahlseele
Do try and keep up ith reality

This is innernets.
Better make sure.

They still need 200k and it's slowly going up, but they only have 3 days left.

This is gonna suck if they don't get the funding. Everyone chipped in for SRReturns, I think that tapped the market.

Probably also less name recognition. SRR has shown themselves able to make Shadowrun games before. SRO is new to that. Also less nostalgia factor, which has probably been a factor in other large kickstarter-funded games.
Stahlseele
sadly, true . .
Critias
I think it being towards the end of summer -- so the hardcore con-going geeks are tapped out because of GenCon and Dragon*Con being around the corner, or already spent for Origins, and the not-so-hardcore-geeks are often still tapped out because summertime's the traditional season for other expensive vacations -- plays a large part, too. Plus general Kickstarter fatigue.

I just wish they hadn't set the bar so danged high. $500k is a lot of money to raise in a month, no matter how successful other projects have been! I hope they can scrape the cash together in the next day or two, 'cause SRO looks like a heck of a game.

if Mr. Weisman were donate a part of the SR:R Surplus Money, it'd be taken care of lickety split . .
but maybe, going to him as an investor would be a smooth move too, seeing how he is unlikely to want too drastic changes . .

i also notice that somehow neither CGL nor HBS kickstarter accounts have been seen donating money to SR:O yet.

Also there was just the fact that SRR's presentation and advertising was a lot slicker from jump. I mean saying SRR succeeded due to nostalgia factor undermines the fact that they just ran a better campaign and they were in place first.

Plus who doesn't enjoy seeing the project manager for SR:360 pelted with stuff.

I know I kept demanding more.

Might be the reason he has a DocWagon card now.
Dr.Rockso
And they made it! Right down to the wire, though
Stahlseele
Actually, there are still 2 hours left and they are now at $527,803

^^^ Yeah, that. ^^^

*fap fap fap*!!
Lionhearted
Eh, do they get money from another source aswell?

MMOs are notoriously expensive to create and maintain...
Stahlseele
PayPal Donations right now i think.
And there will be a Version sold on shelves in Stores too, if i remember correctly . .
And then there's the big no no boogeyman of microtransaction free to play game . .
Lionhearted
MMO's tend to have budgets in the tens of millions though... I mean it bankrupted Amalur.
Stahlseele
who/what?
Lionhearted
That original IP RPG the other year funded by some old baseball(?) player and had Todd McFarlane (the creator of spawn) work of the artistic design.
They were planning an MMO but went bankrupt along the way despite good sales.
Stahlseele
ah . .
bigger franchises have tanked in terms of MMOs
Conan for example and WH40K . .
Lionhearted
Yeah but that was more because of design rather then funding
Lionhearted
Well with Conan an WH:F (whatever it was called)
Dark millenia got the axe because THQ was in the gutter, RIP
Critias
Here's a bit of an update on Shadowrun Returns...joint CGL/HBS announcement.

*does his best not to jump up and down for joy*
Stahlseele
The only names in there i like to read are Jordan Weisman, Tom Dowd and Michael Stackpole . .
Wish the others had nothing to do with this at all <.<

?

As someone on that list but who isn't Weisman, Stackpole, or Dowd, it's really heartening to read that sort of thing. wink.gif
Stahlseele
Ah you are there too? O.o
forgive me, i am notoriously bad with names <.<;,
ok, so the only people i really want out of there are Bills, Coleman and Hardy . . .
i haven't read a single bad thing about way of the adept yet, so you can't be bad.
and i have no idea who the woman is.
Critias
Heheh, just giving you shit, man. I know now everyone keeps usernames/real names straight, etc, etc.
Stahlseele
let me give you en example:
half of my buddies, whom i know by now since about 10 years ago, still call me by my online handle . .
i know the names of 6 people in the corporation i have been working with for more than 5.5 years now.
i am THAT BAD with names . . and multiple names per person make this even worse <.<
