"Five oughta do it. I'm on my way. Oh, and don't freak about the hair - I'm meeting someone fancy tomorrow and I gotta pretend to fit in."

Meira hangs up and suits up again. Armored clothing, pistol, whip, hit of 'kaze - just the basics for making sure you don't get geeked while you're out. AR overlay set to casual and out the door.

Pug is talking to another customer when you walk into his place. He waves at you and tells you that he will be with you right away. Right away turns out to be ten minutes. He is stacking boxes on the counter as you walk up. He checks you out in a very obvious manner. "Hey, Doll. Got what you need right here."

OOC:

Meira picks out five single sensors - three cameras, and two omni-directional microphones. Wall mounted housing all around, leaving her with a max rating of 4. Knowing a whole lot of nothing about the next part, she picks out some scratch-built junk to slave them all together, bringing her total to 9812.

"Pleasure as always, Pug. Hey, someone called bullshit on my 'I buy groceries for rich people' excuse. Got a better one I can use?"

Pug scrunches up his face as he thinks. "You could just say you are a sort of freight forwarder. You know, the sort that specializes in finding hard-to-get items." He watches you go through your things. "Now you watch this old master, you hear? Used and scratch-built is not normally as good as out of the bow, except for the cost, of course. Now, that is OK stuff and it should work just fine, but no warranty and no returns."
fibericon
"Sounds good to me. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go play with my new toys. Stay safe out here."

Meira pays up and heads out, lugging her haul back home. Freight forwarder, huh? It's like her excuse, but better. Too late to use it on the new neighbor now, though.

Pug bids you a farewell and you drive home with your new toys. By the time you roll back home it is about a quarter after ten at night and you take your sensors inside to try to figure out what to do next.
fibericon
Once home, Meira leashes the sensors to the hub, then goes on to prepping her gear. She packs a duffel bag with her securetech pieces, survival knife, survival kit, respirator, and extra ammo - both subsonic and APDS. Thinking about it for a moment, she decides on three extra doses of kamikaze for the bag as well. She checks the chemsniffer ring on her finger, like there's anything she can conceivably fix about it, or even diagnose. The chameleon suit and various breaking and entering gear gets left out for now, in case she gets a chance to use it. About every half an hour, she takes a peek out her window to see if Matt's lights are out yet.

She then lays everything out for the next morning, getting her basic kit ready, along with her makeup. News is playing in the background to get her brushed up on the attack that has EK buzzing around the park.

If Matt's not out by by 1:30am, the bugging will have to wait - she has a job to do, and getting enough rest is a big deal.
Mercy
Wednesday 12 June 2076 2216, Meira's House, Seattle

The attack at the park was last Saturday, so it is already old news, but you can find something. Apparently, some terrorists started shooting up people standing around one of the food trucks. Several dead, including two of the gunmen. An armed civilian was credited with killing the gunmen and driving the others away. You can access archived files if you want to learn more.

Matt's lights go out just before midnight.

fibericon
Deciding to give Matt another half an hour to actually fall asleep before she sneaks in, Meira decides to dig deeper into the archives. It seems awfully convenient that the right person was in the right place like that. She figures the guy must be security, maybe even KE - that would explain their sudden increase.
Mercy
Wednesday 12 June 2076 2223, Meira's House, Seattle

Some digging and you find that the armed civilian was an employee of a PI firm and was apparently just in the right place at the right time to help. The KE credits his fast thinking in the prevention of more casualties. A link takes you to a related story. Most of the injured victims were taken to Mercy General for treatment. Another group (related possible) of terrorists assaulted the hospital, looking for one of the wounded people. The same PI guy happened to be there and took the girl. This had the effect of drawing off the terrorists, again preventing even more death. The terrorists had been extremely well armed and armored. At this time the whereabouts of the man and the girl are not known, although there is a reward out for any information about them.
fibericon
Interesting information, but it didn't help her much at the moment. Finding anything of real value would take a lot longer than she had, and would probably require a few calls. She suits up in the chameleon suit and waits, leaving her home precisely 30 minutes after she notices the lights at Matt's place go out. Step one is casing the area around his house, and step two is approaching the lock. Time to see what the neighbors use to secure their doors.

It does come to your twisted mind that this would have been a lot easier if you had just called and told him you wanted to spend the night. Still, the approach to the house goes smoothly. The lock is a good one, but old and should be no trouble for you unless you make a dumb mistake.
fibericon
Meira grins at the thought. She'd met a government spy in Tir Tangire who did honeypots. He was quite the character. This was the type of guy who, even if you knew he was lying, you wanted him to keep going, just so you could hear him speak. If he wanted your girl - or your boy - you were done. What the hell was his name again? She wasn't confident enough in her lying to pull something like that off, and never felt safe unarmed anyway.

She looks at the lock and pulls out her autopicker. Shouldn't be a problem.

Mercy

The lock did not stand a chance against someone with your skills. It clicks open and you may enter the house. From what you recall of the layout, this entry hall opens into the large living room. You also remember that there were open and unopened boxes all over the area and he might have moved things about if he was unpacking after you left.
fibericon
Meira creeps slowly through the house after carefully closing the door behind her. Her elven eyes helped in the dark, but they weren't like the trids liked to claim. No point in tripping over something now - even if he couldn't see her with the suit, he's not an idiot. Secretly planting surveillance is only useful if no one knows something's amiss. The living room, gym, and bedroom seem like the most obvious places for the cameras. For the microphones, she elects to place one in the doorway connecting the gym and the living room, and one in the doorway connecting the living room and bedroom. It would give lesser sound reception in the adjoining rooms, but she expected most of his time spent on the phone or with guests to be in the living room anyway. Besides, these weren't top of the line sensors, but the ratings were plenty good enough for someone's house.

Sneaking: 17d6t5 5
Mercy
Thursday 13 June 2076 0150, Matt's House, Seattle

As you move about carefully, you do brush up against things that are not where you had remembered them to be. The microphones go up easily, but finding a place to put the camera in the living room is a bit iffy as he has not sorted the stuff there yet and he might find it as he moves things about but finding a spot in the gym is easy. When you move into the bedroom, you find that he has the sheet tossed aside and that he apparently likes to sleep in the nude.
fibericon
This milk run just keeps getting better. If the living room camera doesn't pan out, she'll just have to deal with it later - there's only so much you can account for. With all the sensors in place, she creeps back out, locking the door behind her. After getting home, she makes sure the cameras are actually working, and sets up recording. They won't be getting much right now - probably should have sprung for arrays with the works, but this was already getting to be an expensive project that might yield a whole lot of nothing.

After peeling off that chameleon suit - more like a second skin - she packs it in her bag along with the B&E gear. Alarm set to 10:30am and a final check of her comm for messages before heading to bed.

your trial run with the video allows you to get a good view of the naked Matt as he sleeps. He seems to be every bit as well..............proportioned as you had thought while checking out his semi hard on while you exercised.

Dead tired, you fall asleep until the alarm goes off.
fibericon
Meira winces as she gets out of bed. Mornings had never been her thing, and she caught hell for it in the military. A quick shower to wake up a bit followed by letting the food dispenser in her place do its thing while she got dressed. Her usual go kit would have to do for now - AR set to business casual. Then came the makeup, covering her tattoo, while news played as background noise. She planned to leave with enough time to make it to the park ten minutes early.

While you are getting things ready, you see Ralph's car pull up next door. The man gets out of the car and walks up to Matt's house and enters it.
fibericon
Meira moves her mirror over next to the screen so she can watch the cameras, and lowers the volume on the news, finishing up her makeup while looking at the screen through the corner of her eye.

Matt is already up and dressed and moving things around in the living room when Ralph goes in the house. He straightens and waves at the second man, motioning to a pot on a table. "Help yourself to some coffee. I thought you had to work today."

Ralph nods. "I did, but I called in and told them I needed another day."

Matt laughs, "You have such a cake boss. What does she see in you, anyway?"

Ralph laughs back. "About eight inches, dude." He looks around. "So, is Meira here? Did you score on her last night?"

Matt shakes his head and frowns a bit. "No and no. And I don't think she is that type of girl, Ralph. She seems, well, sort of nice, you know. The kind of girl I could like getting to know."

Ralph shakes his head. "You mean the old Matt charm failed and she turned you down?"

"No, Ralph, I am saying that it did not get that far. We talked a bit and she went to her place to change into some running clothes and we ran the treadmills for a bit, then she left. I am telling you, she is nice, not slutty."

Ralph nods. "Well, that is a refreshing change from the girls that throw themselves at you. Are you going to see her again?"

Matt sighs. "I sure hope so. I like being around her."

Ralph chuckles. "Not to mention that she is really hot to look at."

Matt just shakes his head as the two walk off towards the kitchen.
fibericon
Meira rolls her eyes and sighs heavily, breaking into a laugh.

"Dream on, loverboy. Nice girls don't run the shadows, not a one. Here I was expecting to hear you setting me up to get hit."

She looks over at the time - getting to be time to leave soon. She gives her makeup a last check and leaves to get there early, picking up a soycaf along the way to look less suspicious sitting on a bench by herself before the client arrives. The spot she picked on her scouting trip was one in the open, but as near to cover as she could manage.

A slight breeze coming in off the lake has you glad that you have a warm cup of soycaf in your hands as you sit on one of the few shaded benches in this part of the park. There are not many people out in the park today, but a few families seem to be enjoying themselves and two kids are flying kites. You see two patrols of a pair of KE officers walking down closer to the beach area but no one seems to be taking much of an interest in you. At precisely noon, you notice a red-headed woman of moderate height approaching the bench you are sitting on. She is wearing something green and two-toned and is carrying an umbrella in her left hand. She walks up to you and speaks with a decided British accent. "Hello, are you Meira? I was told that you would be waiting for me here."

OOC:

Poor Matt. It is too bad when a nice guy cannot get a date from a pretty girl.
fibericon
Meira nods, looking up at the woman.

"I'm sorry if my change of appearance caught you off guard - I simply didn't want to attract the wrong type of attention, especially given recent events. What can I do for you?"
Mercy
Thursday 13 June 2076 1200, Park Bench, Washington Recreational Center, Seattle

The woman sits down next to you. "My name is Tanya Marisart. You can look it up if you like and you will find quite a bit of information on me. I understand that you specialize in procuring the hard to get and I would like to employ you to get something for me. The job will have an element of risk to it and it could prove dangerous if you are caught. I will pay you ten thousand Nuyen for completion of my task, and can be persuaded to provide a bonus f you exceed my expectations. Are you interested?"
fibericon
"You've clearly done your research on me. Acquisitions are a specialty of mine. I, of course, have questions about what you need to retrieve as it may help me understand what will be done to protect it. What it is, and your relationship with the item, would be the main ones. You do have the option of maintaining your privacy, but it may make my job harder. Either way, you understand that this conversation, in whole or in part, cannot be repeated by either of us to a third party. I apologize if you're familiar with all of this, but one can never assume. Please, continue."
Mercy
Thursday 13 June 2076 1202, Park Bench, Washington Recreational Center, Seattle

The woman's British accent comes across quite plainly as she continues. "Thank you very much. Do you have a name that you prefer I use for this conversation?"

"Anyway, here is the problem for you to solve. The thirtieth floor of the Vanguard Building in the Downtown District of Seattle is occupied by the Kai Xing Insurance Company LLC. There are three conference rooms on this floor. On the table of one of these conference rooms sits a pottery urn. I want that urn. I do not have a timetable so please plan it to the detail you think you need to. I will tell you up front that this is a test of your abilities. I will have other work for you if you succeed. I may have additional information on this task but I will not make it available to you unless you recognize the need and ask for it, at which point I will gladly share what I can. Other information you must procure on your own. I am looking to see how resourceful you are and how you proceed. I will ask for routine updates on your progress but will not hover over you nor will I gift you any information that you do not ask for. Besides your pay for this, I am willing to put up the sum of one hundred thousand nuyen as a pool for expenses such as bribes, payments for information, or even the hiring of specialists to assist you. I warn you that the pool is finite unless you can convince me to add to it. You will have complete discretion on the first twenty thousand nuyen, but I will need to authorize anything beyond that. I have been told that you are capable of planning, organizing, and carrying out such a task. Are you?"

"You have already asked some questions, but I am not going to answer anything until I have a commitment from you that you are going to accept my test."
fibericon
"You can call me Meira."

She nods, listening to the challenge. An expensive test of her abilities, to be sure, but at this point it sounded like this was simply an antique - not terribly important, but something that could provide a decent return on investment in the right hands. Although, being an urn, it might instead carry a very different type of value.

"Understood. I'll take your job. Yes, I can manage this project and provide updates as required. The acquisition will also be handled by me. Can you tell me the type of urn? That is, is it for tea or for a person's remains? And in the case of the latter, can you tell me the name of the deceased? I would also like to know who is currently in possession of the urn."
Mercy
Thursday 13 June 2076 1205, Park Bench, Washington Recreational Center, Seattle

"Thank you for accepting the challenge. I understand a possible need to do this yourself, but please consider that I am going to someone else, you in this case, to assist me. I recommend that you consider bringing in what help you need and that is all I will say on the matter."

"You have asked some questions so let me see if I can provide any answers. Please consider that the information I have may not be completely accurate, but is based on what I know. I will not ever intentionally lead you astray. The insurance company is a quasi-legal front company wholly owned by the Yakuza, so I would expect some physical as well as matrix security on the floor. The urn is about eight inches tall and contains the ashes of one Lei Xian Po, a man rumored to have some magical ability, even though he lived long ago in the fifth age. The urn is considered to be quite valuable to a client of mine."
fibericon
Meira is reminded of her Japanese tutor. He mentioned a lot of beliefs that straddled the line between reality and fantasy, and the line was often pretty blurry to begin with. But this thing didn't have to be magical to be expensive.

"I understand. How would you like me to get in contact with you for expenses and updates?"

Tanya smiles and hands you a small piece of paper. "This has a comcode that you can use any time, day or night. Commit it to memory quickly as the paper it is written on will self destruct in fifteen seconds."

She waits about five seconds and gives a laugh. "OK. Sorry. I could not resist that. I am sending you a comcode that you can use." Sure enough, your 'link pings to let you know that you have a text message in the queue.

She slips a pair of sunglasses over her eyes and looks at you. "Do you have any more questions? I do prize independence and ingenuity, but I prize success even more. Do not be afraid to ask questions, but remember that if I had all the answers I would not need you."
fibericon
Meira grins at the other woman's joke. Old spy trids were a favorite of her squad for how ridiculous they were. No, they weren't even called that back then, were they? The bizarre gadgets, their expectations of the future, it was hilarious.

The gears in her head were already turning - she had a lot of work to do. She needed to give Trance a call, at least get a decker on board. Maybe a face to put some bribes on the inside. Volley could get her building plans.

"I think I have something of a plan to move forward on your project. Thank you for your time. Should the need arise, you know where to reach me, though I suspect I will be reaching out first."

Tanya nods and stands. "Thank you. Please contact me in two days to let me know how you are doing. You may contact me sooner if you need to. SO long, Meira. I hope that we can work well together." She leaves without looking back, headed to the exit where you see her waiting at a bus stop.

When you arrive back at your house you notice that Ralph's car is gone. Once inside you reach out to Lux. >>Hey there. What can I do for you?<<

>>Yeah? You get a job out of it? Or at least a meal, anyway?<<

While watching the frames, you do not see anything that really interests you. Mostly Matt and Ralph moving stuff around the house and Matt unpacking. A delivery guy had been by about an hour ago. Going this fast does not let you hear any of the audio.
fibericon
"Yeah, there's a job, but nothing special. The way that woman was getting on before you'd think I was going to steal the moon for her. Hey I might have to meet some freelancers in the not too distant future. We good to meet up in your bar?"

>>That's too bad. I was hoping it meant something more than that. And, sure, you can come by. Let me know in advance and I can have one of the back rooms available.<<
fibericon
"Thanks, Lux. See you soon."

Meira had to downplay this job as much as possible. Her initial contact had made such a spectacle of herself that Meira thought she'd have to leave town. Besides, there are just some things you don't discuss. The next call is to her info broker, who she'd likely want to meet in person.

"Meira."

"Hey, Volley. I want to meet up - got another job for you, and I still owe you money. You can put the current one on the back burner if you have to. This takes priority."

"I don't suppose you plan to elaborate?"

"Not over the phone, no. Give me a time and location and I'll be there."

There is a slight pause then Volley comes back. >>There is a small jazz club in Redmond, just outside the Barrens. Josie's. Know it? Look it up and meet me there at, how about 1800 tonight? If this is top priority, we can work out something else.<<
fibericon
"1800 is good. See you soon."

Meira hangs up and walks into the other room, then goes to the bar counter in her kitchen. A shame it never saw the proper use - it was actually kind of nice. Instead, the smooth white surface was her whiteboard. She grabs a dirty rag and wipes off notes from the previous job, then jots down a few things with marker, as if making a grocery list.

Check in with Lux (circle with a check mark)
Meet with Volley (circle)
Pick up paperwork
Review security footage (circle)
Recruit team members
Reserve meeting room (circle)

She taps the back of the marker on the counter top, thinking for a moment. Furrowing her brow, she grimaces and adds "Get proper whiteboard" to the end, then gets up to make herself a drink. Looking over her place, there was a lot of wasted space. She wasn't even properly ready for a raid on her home. She sighs and goes back to the hub, rewinding to the part she fast forwarded through before and listening to the audio this time.

Most of the talk is about where stuff is going and how much stuff Matt has, although there is a lot of talk about the latest upgrades to the game Matt is working on. There seems to be some friendly rivalry between Ralph, the hardware guy, and Matt, the software guy. About two hours into the tapes, Matt calls a halt and the two men go get something to drink. Ralph looks over at his friend and tips his drink glass. "Say, you going to the company do on Saturday? You know how Klein likes to have us all present. It is his idea of team spirit building. You could bring Meira."

Matt shakes his head. "Had not really thought about it and don't get so fast about Meira. She barely knows me so why should she say yes to dinner and dancing with a stranger?"

"Sounds like you like her."

Matt nods. "I do, actually. She seems really nice. Hmmm, I guess I could ask her and just hope that she says yes."

Ralph chuckles. "That's the spirit. And if she shoots you down, I could always set you up with Jeanette, you know, the hottie in my section that really wants to get to know you better."

This time it is Matt who chuckles. "You mean she wants to know my money better."

"Well, if you did not have so much of it, that would not be a problem. Speaking of money, when are you going to upgrade the security system here? I took a look at what you have and it is crap. Put in a requisition at work and let me send some guys out to fix you up with the best your money can buy."

Matt looks thoughtful. "Hmmm, sure, that might be a good idea. Don't know what is is, but I had this feeling earlier that someone had been in the house. Just a couple of small things out of place, but I could be mistaken. Probably just the newness and me forgetting where I put something down."

Ralph gets a worried look on his face. "You forget something? With your memory? Not a chance. Maybe you should get Klein to authorize you some guards here. Or at least a patrol at irregular intervals."

Matt shakes his head. "Nah, not yet. You know how I hate feeling like I am locked up. I want a home, not a fortress."

"Yeah, right. You are worth too much to Klein and the company. I would be surprised if he does not already have someone keeping tabs on you and maybe they were in here and accidentally moved something."

Both men laugh and they finish their ice teas and go back to work. Ralph leaves the house about thirty minutes later and Matt settles down to play Vampire Hunter.
fibericon
Well damn if Matt wasn't just way too clever. If they get security - competent security - to do a sweep, they're going to find her toys. And even if they somehow don't bother, they're going to run background on everyone in a ten mile radius if they're that rich. Distancing herself from him wouldn't work if they did that - they'd just put detail on her anyway. Might as well stare them down while they watch her.

"You seriously had to bring the heat down on me? Alright, Saturday. Saturday. Yeah, I got this."

Cloak and dagger was supposed to be her style, but she was only good at the most literal sense of it. Pretending to be fancy only got her so far. Maybe it was time to change that. No time to learn social skills now before Saturday, but grabbing a virtual instructor off the matrix might not be the worst idea. For now, a nice dress would have to do - a real one. She calls up Pug.

"Hey, doll face. Just couldn't stay away?"

"You know me," she chuckles, "I just can't get enough. I need a dress for a fancy event, one that'll maybe take a bullet or two for me, something I can hide a pistol inside, at least. I don't know, maybe an Armante with a concealed pocket. Hell, make it four concealed pockets. Can that be done?"

>>For you, Dollface? Anything is possible. Or as possible as you have money for, anyway. Going stylish or slutty or something in between? And when do you need it? You know the fancy stuff needs to be tailored, so when can you drop by for a fitting?<<
fibericon
Meira hadn't considered the style beyond "something fancy with armor", but Matt seemed pretty happy that she didn't show everything at once.

"Let's go right down the middle. Too much cleavage might get me a slug in the chest. The event's on Saturday, so if you could have it tomorrow, that'll be great. I guess that means I'm going to see you today. I can leave right now if that suits you."

"Keep it moving, that's what I always say."

"See you soon, Pug."

Meira hangs up, and heads out the door, leaving her unfinished drink behind. She hadn't even bothered to clean the makeup off, though that probably wouldn't raise many eyebrows. She stops abruptly in the doorway and changes her AR overlay to casual, then heads off towards her supplier.

Pug is very happy to see you and sends you off with an assistant to get your measurements taken while he puts together some options for you. When you come out, he shows you some holographic examples of what you would look like in several styles and some different material swatches. "Now, all of these can be armored up to give you some protection, but nothing like a good old set of Big Game Hunter stuff, mind you. But I think you will like it. Now, these are Berwick, so they are a little on the spendy side. You alright with a tag a bit north of 2.5K?"

While you are thinking about that, you get a message from Matt. >>Hey Meira. It's Matt, the guy next door? Anyway, I have this favor to ask of you. My boss is having a big party this weekend at his house on the lake. I was wondering if you would like to come out to dinner and dancing on Saturday. No strings attached. Just fun, good food, and hopefully I won't step on your feet too often if you want to dance. Let me know if you have the time and if you want to go and I will let you know when. It will be a bit ritzy, so let me know if you need some money for a dress or two. My treat, and I will owe you big time for this if you say yes. Wait, did that come off as begging? LOL Maybe it is. Anyway, let me know. Thanks. Matt.<<
fibericon
Meira decides on green to match her eyes, then notices the text from Matt and grins.

"Would you look at that - an invite to the event. It's almost like I've got insider information. Yeah, I kinda figured I'd be in about that price territory with this. Thought about just using the AR overlay, but you know there's gonna be that one person who sees what I'm really wearing. Might be worth my while to my gun and whip switched to ceramic while I'm at it. What do you say, buddy? Think you can get your hands on that? I know it's a little 'seasonal', but I figured it would be worth the ask, at least."

She thumbs out a text back to Matt.

"Sounds like fun. Don't worry about the dress - I have just the thing. What time are you picking me up?"
