We are down working on the winches. I was posting that as a player not a character. You and me are off hauling chains and crap.
Grenades? Nah, I'll just fire my ExII rounds from my sniper riffle at the nearest purple pipe....

What is JP-8?
Tziluthi
Oct 28 2003, 04:15 PM
Good question.
Shadow

JP - 8
is the millitary designation for a specific kind of fuel. See regular gasoline doesn't cut it in aircraft and a lot of large equipments. So the millitarty invented jet fuel and other kinds. JP-5 is what I used to put in my truck when I was in the army. JP-8 is Aviation Turbine Fuel. Very, very, very volatile. And very Toxic. Exposure to this stuff will kill you, so don't go breathing it in if you can help it.
Leowulf
Oct 29 2003, 12:36 AM
Like how much would it take to kill someone if they were just inhaling the fumes? A quick whiff? A deep breath? A few minutes of exposure with normal breathing? How does the military protect its personnel from exposure?
grendel
Oct 29 2003, 02:27 AM
The military uses a series of identifcation cards for each hazardous material it is required to handle. These safety packets are called MSDS cards, or Material Safety Data Sheets. The one for JP-8 is available on the web at
www.cpchem.com/MSDS/fuels/performance/JP8AVIATIONTURBINEFUEL.pdf. It lists the dangers associated with JP-8, along with the proper protective wear required, as well as actions to take in case of a spill or accidental exposure.
The naval command specifcially charged with ensuring the safety of sailors is the Naval Occupational Safety and Health command, or NAVOSH. Every naval activity is required to undergo an annual NAVOSH inspection in order to ensure compliance with all safety directives.

Grendel, did I miss something, or was there nothing else to say about my jacking into the INTREPID?
Leowulf
Nov 5 2003, 02:22 AM
Based on the MSDS, I'm guessing that exposure to JP-8 almost always causes injury of some kind, and that exposure for more than a few minutes to fumes is usually fatal, as is momentary exposure to a concentrated amount. I noted how the MSDS said to seek medical attention, like they usually do, and how it also said to provide oxygen to the exposed individual. Now I have a better idea of how dangerous it is. Scary.
grendel
Nov 5 2003, 05:42 AM
INTREPID's systems are necessarily more advanced than the smaller vessels that you're used to, but fundamentally they're the same. You didn't find anything unusual or suspect in the system.

Is Downtown on the BP?
Leowulf
Nov 13 2003, 07:31 PM
Sam follows Jeff. That seemed too short for an in-character post.
Shadow
Nov 13 2003, 09:38 PM
Ok I am going to assume DT is on the BP. He will carry the following gear on him.
Colt Manhunter w/laser sight 16© 9M 2.5kg

Also, what are ROE? Did they tell us?
Downtown is going to be crouched as low as he can in the boat, with his head facing the front (he is wearing the green bandana over his head). When they get close enough he is going to do a detailed look at the ship for crew or lookouts.
grendel
Nov 18 2003, 06:53 AM
The weather is cold and clear, just above 12C, winds out of the northwest at eighteen knots. Visibility is easily twelve kilometers. The swells are rough, though, three to four meters, with the occasional five. No ROE has been discussed.

Hmm. You might want to spend a karma on that roll, since with the -4 penalty for defaulting to an attribute
Sam's highest is a 1.

Sam needs to resist 8M impact damage.
Leowulf
Nov 27 2003, 04:52 PM
8M becomes 4M due to Sam's impact armor rating of 4.
Damage resistance test, Body (TN 4): 2, 1, 3, 3, 13, 3, 11, 2, 4, 5
With 4 successes, Sam takes no damage - luckily.
Let's try that again.
Defaulting to Body (TN 8?): 2, 4, 2, 3, 4, 11, 3, 11, 15, 5
That nets 3 successes right? Does Sam make it up this time?
