I'll back ya on that. "Street Samurai" seems to imply a code of conduct that is in line with "the street."

True, and there have been a lot of poser Sams, who fall way short of the mark, and not have a code at all, either one in line with the street, or one more akin to bushido. Those are the ones that deserve to be laughed at behind their backs.

Hey, there was one run I GM'ed where the rigger had a Bulldog Stepvan that had a cot in the back that had a drawer for storage underneath. At several times during the run, the team's "Samurai" got stuffed into said drawer by the team's stereotypical big dumb troll, because quite frankly, that's where he could best serve the team.

i disagree. "street sam" doesn't imply any sort of moral code, merely some form of ethical code. subtle but wide difference.
my street killer does the "no kids" thing, but that's a recent addition.

I rarely use the term Street Samurai for my characters, as they usually do not fit in with the implied 'code'. There are lots of other terms, like Razor(boy/girl), Gun Bunny, Vat Job, Muscle, Brick, etc. Even Merc can fit, as most shadowrunners are a type of mercenary.

Pro or anti runner morality? Just curious. |
Let me put it this way: it's entitled "Shadowrunning and You: The Myth of the Moral Shadowrunner".

I knew there was more! That's why I added the 'etc'.

Damn right! I want to read that. I'm tired of seeing overly moral criminals!

Yeah, I want to see a street samurai who only kills women and children. All the time. Sometimes he'll even do it without pay if times are rough.

I suppose for me it's a legacy of SR1. Back then it felt like, yes, there were ratty street scum, but the top of the profession - Hangfire, Ghost, people like that - were a cut above not only in terms of their skills but also their morals and ethics.

Not that it matters worth anything, but when a freelancer's material shows up in a sourcebook, doesn't that freelancer get a copy of the sourcebook, gratis?
|
For us to get all of our books for free, then, we'd have to write for every single book, even ones that'd been published a long time ago.
![wink.gif](http://forums.dumpshock.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif)
Anyway, it's not
gratis, it's part of the payment for work done. It's called an author's copy; this is pretty standard whether you write for RPGs, magazines or write novels.
Basically, we have just as much invested as anyone else, albeit not always monetarily. I'd say my author's copies account for maybe 1/5 of my book collection, tops -- I have books all the way from 1st edition. I plunked down a good portion (if not half to nearly all) of one of my paychecks when I was an A1C at DLI to buy the 1st ed. core rulebook,
Sprawl Sites,
Street Samurai Catalog,
Grimoire,
Virtual Realities,
Rigger Black Book, GM screen,
Paranormal Animals of North America,
DNA DOA and
Dreamchipper.

Just wanted to add my bit!
I am really looking forward to the new book! I think in all games they do have to move on, for the evolution or things get stale!
and anyway if it makes combat quicker I'm well up for it!

Yes Torzzz, but that's because you want more opportunities to smash people over the head with that lamp-post you call a staff
