Not a question of when will the PDF come out but will it have corrected info as compared to the hard copy?

My understanding is that it's what we're waiting for. Unless it's some other (i.e. technical) issue specifically related to the pdf format.

Someone has to say it again: Are we there yet?

P.S. Not throwing the rock at any of the... hmmm... *great many* employees of FanPro. It's just that, for once, I had kept myself informed about the new products coming up, and now I kinda wish I hadn't. It's like when your parents tell you Christmas will be on the 27th this year because money's tight and the family could use the boxing day rebates. nyahnyah.gif Hopefully, they'll make our wait worth it.

Could one use the "Friends in high places" edge and define "high places" as "Top of the Corleone family"?

You know, I've actually been lurking here for quite some time but only recently created an account because you people are almost as crazy as I am about this. Even my gaming group thinks I'm nuts.

I think I speak for a lot of people, when I say: Autorefresh may save my f5 key from Dumpshock

Hanging out here is dangerous. You may eventually get the notion that it´s perfectly normal to treat a late running pdf release as if it were a life and death situation.

<<edit>> Speaking of that. I´m dying here!!!
Stormdrake
It's not?

I'd say the burden of proof is on Mintcar here.

Some of us have very conflicting desires between "Get SR fix every week" and "Start a campaign with knowingly outdated rules". It is like when Kirk tells the aliens he always tells the truth, and then that he is lying, and their heads explode...or whatever actually happens
blakkie
Ok, i've got my coater roll on my colour printer replaced and ready to print that puppy out. I now give my blessing to Fanpro and Battlecorps to release the PDF.

You know, just in case you were waiting for me or something. wink.gif
mintcar
I can´t deny neither yours or my own very real suffering over this. The question is weather it can be concidered normal to feel that way. wink.gif And friends, it may be around here, but this newcomer reminded me of what.. anybody I know would say if they knew how much time I spend just waiting for that damn pdf.

My gaming group has had multiple release parties at this point. So I think I count as obsesses too
Kagetenshi
Amongst those who know the release date it is normal. The abnormal state is knowing the release date in the first place.

My gamin group had to forecfully rush a small campaign to it's so that we could terminate it and begin anew with SR4 nyahnyah.gif Unfortunately it seems we should drink beer on wednesdays instead of playing... oh well, I can wait all winter for it anyway, I'll simply go nuts.
mintcar
Drinking beer is always a good sulution. <goes get beer>
Dracol1ch
I haven't GMed in a very long time and I decided to make the SR4 release my return to screen monkey. The thing not comming out is absolutely killing me.. did someone say beer?

Sometimes ... in the not so near future ... a pdf will release itself ... sometimes ... in a Time where only one is left ... only one human of all that masses that once were ...

It is a kind of farce that pdf "coming out soon", isn't it?

Meanwhile I have come to the conclusion that the pdf *won't* be released soon ...
I mean - something really bad must have happened. A computer crash killing all those precious files and their offstore backups ... There can be no other explanation, can there?
mintcar
There is one very irritating possibility. That I sort of don´t want to face myself.

When Adam first discovered that he´d gotten the first release date wrong he said something like "On the other hand in the printing buisness, one minute too late is like months too early". He could have been serious, in wich case he´s not feeling stressed at all.
Kagetenshi
There can be only one!

What was that for??
I mean - they are always talking of computer crashes - perhaps they wanted to try one..
BTW: That ring has been melten down, or is that just one big propaganda?

Thank god. I've been staring at Mintcar's post for the last 10 minutes trying to figure out what it meant.

Thanks for the clarification. But is what he said really that different from what I thought he said? Essentially, if he was serious (hypotheticly) he could allow himself several months before being truely late by game industry standards.
Kagetenshi
I believe he was half-serious and was poking fun at the lateness endemic to the industry—that is to say, that being barely on time is unusual enough to merit celebration that might otherwise be reserved for an early release.

I do not believe he considers several months an acceptable delay, even though it is a delay that many of FanPro's recent non-releases have experienced.

I think what's killing me is that I know somewhere, someone, has got the book and it's not me. Damn you GenCon attending masses for inducing psycosis in me!

I hope they at least drop us an update soon, I've got game tonight and I've been telling my group for weeks that I was going to start up a new SR4 campaign soon. I'd like to be able to tell them something other than, *SHRUG*.

I know the feeling, do we need a GM support group?
Kagetenshi
Ah, this is the life…

~J, founder of the GMs who wouldn't switch before they've had a month to read over the rules even if the game were God's gift to roleplaying association
mintcar
I´ll join that association if that time includes non-rules related preperations.
Ghostfire
Personally, I'd be happy with a 'Not Before <Date>' response. I don't like the wait, it really annoys me I ordered my book and it's still not shipped, and I'm pretty annoyed with FanPro ATM...but I'd be okay with it if they'd just say 'Not Before 'X'.

The truth is I agree. Even when the PDF comes out it'll be at least a month before I've gotten my playtesting, setting, NPC stats, etc done. Moreso is the fact that I won't play a game until I've got a paper book in my hands. It's probably habit but I hate referring to a computer during gaming sessions. But the current GM and I really want to sit down and do some basic run throughs of combat, hacking etc to get a feel for flow. Heck, I'd be happy with the quickstart PDF. At least that would get me through until my LE gets here... mmm LE...
Sir Randel
Well, it's tuesday and there is no update so i won't wait anymore for the pdf : they just lose a sale. Instead, i will buy the new earthdawn player's compendium.
mintcar
Maybe it´s time WE set a deadline? The value of the pdf is shrinking every day, after all.
Nikoli
Face it folks, the gaming industry regularly misses deadlines, because they know we'll still buy. They count on that, sure they aren't trying to miss them on purpose, but the lack of resource allocation, the issues with printers, etc. all add up to one thing, because we don't take our money elsewhere, they still turn a profit.

That said, I'm still buying the book, but the not the PDF at this point.
Kagetenshi
QUOTE (mintcar)

Doesn't matter what the reason is. Welcome to the club smile.gif

As for a deadline, I've got a personal one—if my hardcopy arrives before the PDF is out, I will almost certainly have no use for the PDF.

~J
Dracol1ch
Well, my group loves PDFs so someone in the group is bound to buy the PDF. As far as I'm concerned I'll only buy the PDF up until the day that I get an email from BattleCorps saying that my book has shipped. After that it has no value to me. As a matter of fact if it doesn't ship this week I'll probably seriously consider not getting it.
tirsales
I'm actually *really* pissed of by FanPro ...
I will buy either the pdf or the hardcopy - whatever comes first - but certainly not both as I had planned ...
Can this be what FanPro wants? Getting his fans, customers and buyers agressiv? I don't think so - so they should be getting on, continue hurrying and - at least - release a new deadline ...
But, who am I telling this ..
Anyone wrote an Email to Adam Jury asking for the release date?
Ghostfire
Someone take the leap and e-mail the guy. I would, but I have no idea what he e-mail address is. smile.gif

Kagetenshi
Email FanPro, not Adam. Go through proper channels.

I'm not sure, he may be under enough stress as it is without rabid fans hounding him.
Spookymonster
Oh well... so much for my prediction. When I originally guessed today, I thought I was being unnecessarily harsh and pessimistic. Guess not...
Adam
No stress here. It's finished and ready for launch. Contrary to popular belief I'm not soley in charge of things, so I couldn't just upload it to the world the instant I finished it; proper approvals and whatnot still had to be done.

And since we use two retail outlets for our PDFs, they both need to be prepared for the launch so they can get the file up at roughly the same time; we don't want one poaching sales from the other simply because they had the file online 12 hours earlier.

No stress here; since returning from GenCon I've finished SR4 in PDF [with corrections], finished another book in PDF, just about sent another book to press, started writing work on another book, chased down a very late artist for yet another book, and done some noodling about on various other sundry projects.

And I've caught up on missed sleep, had the chance to read some stuff I picked up at GenCon, and quite frankly, I'm on top of the fucking world. smile.gif

I would try to get in touch with FanPro but I haven't found any email addresses of anybody that can answer this.

On Friday this week through Monday I was going on the assumption that I would have been able to get a book before the convention. Looks like I am going to have 38 players upset that I can't promote the game at a convention that has players but no support from the industry.

I am annoyed at the lack of the PDF as well as the Main book. Adam please help! I sent you a plea in email as well. I really want to do these 5 events at DragonCon '05

No. Both BattleCorps and DriveThruRPG provide standard PDF files that you can backup to CD, move to flash drives, copy to your laptop, etc.

Can i call Bullshit on this? I say the first paragrap completely nullifies any chance of the second, more enjoyable list of things ever being accomplished in te same time period.

So, now that all the hard work is finished and done
And the beers are passed in celebratory fun,
Adam? What does work on a .pdf entail?
Is there a previous format t'convert for sale
Where you need to re-work the .pdf layout?
I'm just curious 'bout the process, not here t'shout.

well, than you, adam, are an amazing man, knowing my work habbits, i would've most likely ended up at "just about" on everything (i'm talking bout you, Shadowrunners Garage), before taking my rum and coke perma break...

Well glad to hear that its done. Now I can insesintly check Fanpro for the next week to see if it has been released, lol. Thanks for all the work Adam and for the corrections.
