I am sorry, but I think I missed some hidden meaning here ...

Well dunno about the options we got but if we were in germany now would be weekend and we could expect it at monday earliest.

Hope this is diffrent ...
Bandwidthoracle
So is this a near confirmation of the next few hours?
Adam
No. It was a "I'm still working on it, and still waiting to hear back from other people [who have very good things to be doing this Friday night -- and I'd much rather be there than here.] so it will be finished when it's finished."

There was no hidden meaning or doublespeak.
Wintermancer
What that means is, everyone here is waiting on him, and he's waiting on other people.

And he's getting the short end of the stick because it's Friday night, he's working, while the other people are out doing what people are supposed to do on Friday nights (have fun), and the people here are hounding him. wink.gif

Man do I know how that feels. frown.gif

Not with game writing or .PDF creation and fanatical message board members of course. But I know how it feels. wink.gif

Good luck Adam, I was working Friday night, will be working this Saturday morning and afternoon as well so I'm with you in spirit. Maybe when my work is done I'll have a PDF to read wink.gif

My work starts when his work ends, so I hope he gets it done soon but not until the morning.

Yeah, he's allready gone above and beyond on several occasions

As for the fanatical thing, I suppose that if SR was a movie, we'd be the guys dressed as captain chaos, camping outside the theater?

LMAO. Oh so true. But oh so much more worth going to the theater to see people standing in line dressed up like that, because it would baffle so many people, unlike the hobbit LotR craze. Not only would we be dressed as characters.

We would be dressed as characters practically NO ONE would know.

So just what would a Captain Chaos costume look like? I suddenly get the image of a bunch of widely varied physical types dressed as pseudo-Neos all standing in line. And it hurts to visualize a bearded Danny Devito dressed like that. Thanks a lot guys! Where is my icepick?

I can just see the scene now...

FADE IN:

EXT. LOCAL MOVIE THEATER -- NIGHT

WIDE AND HIGH. A very long line of moviegoers winds its way to the ticket booth, crowded with families, couples chatting and cuddling, and the occasional loner.

A second line of people--much fewer than the first--stands at the door waiting to get inside. All of them are dressed ilike Captain Chaos... even the ones who shouldn't dress this way.

CLOSE. The rope blocking their way. The sign on it reads: "Shadowrun, 8:00pm Line Starts Here".

AT THE TICKET COUNTER. A trendy guy with boy band hair, and his sixteen year old girlfriend, who is wearing a hoochie tube dress, are getting their tickets.

TRENDY GUY: Yo man, two students for Deuce Bigalow: Iraqi Gigalow.

TICKET GUY: That'll be $10.

The trendy guy passes some money to the ticket guy, who gives him their tickets.

TICKET GUY: Enjoy your show.

TRENDY GUY: Thanks.

The sixteen year old hoochie blows a bubble gum bubble and pops it, then grins a brace-faced grin at the ticket guy. (AUDIO) Her jaw smacks loudly and obnoxiously on her gum.

She puts her arm around the Trendy Guy's waist. Trendy Guy puts his hand on her ass, and they make their way toward the entrance.

Catching sight of the line of people waiting for Shadowrun, a perplexed look crosses both of their faces...

TRENDY GUY: Whoa, the Hughes Brothers must a made another Matrix film.

HOOCHIE: Oh my God, like- The Matrix is so totally nineteen ninety-nine. The sequels weren't even any good, you know?

TRENDY GUY: Come on, they haven't made a good movie since American Pimp.

This is said as they walk by the line. All of the people waiting for Shadowrun eye them as they go. When they are both out of sight:

WANNABE CAPTAIN CHAOS #7: What Ice dumped you out of life? The Wachowski Brothers directed The Matrix, motherfragger. Jack in or slot off.

WANNABE CAPTAIN CHAOS #4: (nods, somberly) So ka, chummer. So ka.

#4 pats #7 on the shoulder. #7 sighs.

FADE OUT.

Okay...the index for the SR4 BBB has been made available at shadowrunrpg.com.

If I have a copy of SR4 BBB, hard or digital, I've already got an index. If I don't have the BBB, then I've got no use for its index. ohplease.gif
tirsales
My words exactly. Why wasting precious time with the publication of the *** index - when there is neither the pdf nor an available version of the hardcopy...
Why wasting time creating it when you can make an update for the pdf initially released without?

Having the index in PDF if you have a hardcopy BBB allows you to print it and keep it handy without having to flip pages back and forth all the time. Not everyone has a scanner, and not everyone will buy both a hard copy and a digital one. I don't really have a use for it yet though, as I plan on buying a digital copy only - at least in the near future. (It's easier to bring along a bunch of pdf on a trip - when you're already bringing your computer anyways - than it is to carry your hardcopy library. I'll need that mobility.)
tirsales
As soon as either the pdf or a hardcopy version is available to the public - I fully understand and appreciate publishing the index. Until that joysome day I must say: It's ridiculous.
Stormdrake
At this point will check on Monday. However if its not out by Tuesday night am thinking I will just wait till the hard copy shows up at the local store. Either that or just continue with, the now, complete 3rd edition rules. See ya all Monday if my players don't drive me nuts with questions about 4th edition settings. silly.gif

Maybe they noticed a decrease in the buzz, and are trying to keep the hype going?

Well, if you're into paranoid thinking (and of course that wouldn't be anyone here wink.gif this whole pdf delay+delay+? thing could be a viral marketing scheme. First of all, one could wager that the extremely devoted minority of SR fans that tends to gather at Dumpshock is much more resilient than casual fans. In other words, they're more willing to ultimately shrug off disappointments because they like SR.

So, the announcement that the pdf will be out a full month early is made. Expectant fans line up on the release date only to be told to come back tomorrow. Viral stage 1: this mix of annoyance and now heightened anticipation affects social behavior enough that, the next day people are explaining to their friends that they can't concentrate because they can't wait to get the pdf.

The next day Adam informs people that he just couldn't finish it in time. But there will be copies at Gencon, which is teh now! Viral stage 2: fans that are even more annoyed, but also have even more anticipation, rush off to Gencon. SR4 quickly sells out.

After Gencon, Adam casually mentions that he thinks the PDF will be ready on Friday. Again people line up, and they've told more friends (who have maybe also told friends.) Viral stage 3: The PDF isn't up, but there's an exciting new announcement about Fanpro's exciting new product lineup! Holo Streets and a free Shadows PDF book! Of course there's a new rather unimportant segment of SR4 up on the website, too. The extreme fans are now more than a little annoyed, but they, and many others who wouldn't normally be, are surprisingly informed about Fanpro's new product lineup.

Then the pdf comes out. People grudgingly fork over their money and go away for a bit. They read the book, like it, and mostly forgive Fanpro. Net result: the word about SR4 has been spread to more than just the faithful at the cost of lessened fan trust in Fanpro's release dates. When the the hardbound books make their way to a larger chain like Borders (if they do), someone who might not otherwise have known about SR will notice and maybe buy it.

Wouldn't that be an interesting marketing experiment?

Anyway, I don't think this is what happened. I just found this more entertaining than doing my Physics homework. biggrin.gif There are flaws in this rationale, but, hey, being paranoid is fun. All in all, I expect this more from big video game companies with huge PR departments (where several lawyers proofread all press releases.)

Does dumpshock have some filter I'm not aware of, or will we get you to visit more often, if we append "It's finished and released to online shops now!!" to every post?

My understanding is that it's what we're waiting for. Unless it's some other (i.e. technical) issue specifically related to the pdf format.

Someone has to say it again: Are we there yet?

P.S. Not throwing the rock at any of the... hmmm... *great many* employees of FanPro. It's just that, for once, I had kept myself informed about the new products coming up, and now I kinda wish I hadn't. It's like when your parents tell you Christmas will be on the 27th this year because money's tight and the family could use the boxing day rebates. nyahnyah.gif Hopefully, they'll make our wait worth it.

I think it's about time for a status report. While I don't expect another release date we are nearing 2 weeks after the original release date and it would be nice to know where we stand on getting the pdf done and up for sale.

What are you basing that off of? I have doubts that Adam is fixing what is in the errata list. There certainly has been no indication that is happening. The last thing i saw him specifically mentioned that he was awaying info on was something to do with PDF specific feature.

P.S. Incidentally this is what i was expecting to be funny, seeing you blow a gasket when the errata isn't fixed in the PDF when it comes out. smile.gif

Ah, i missed that post. Ya, making corrections is definately going to slow the process up some to get approval on whether or not something is an error and whate the correct text is suppose to be.

But likely for the best given how wacked some of those table formating errors sound. And having things like whether AoE cover Force or Magic meters i'd like cleared up to avoid having my feeble old memory cluttered up with errors (because in that case it isn't even clear which is 'correct').
