MY LAPTOP IS DEAD!
Rad
Damn, we really *are* hemorrhaging players...

In other news, I screwed up on my math (again) so:

-Containment Suit Mk III-

Containment Suit [Device 2] 5pp
-----------------------------------------
Nano-Disguise [Rank 2] 1pp
Morph 1: 1/rank
-Flaws-
Action (Move) -1/rank

Entropy Channeling [Rank 2] 5pp
Luck Control: 3/rank
-Flaws-
Side Effect (Jinx): -2/rank
-Feats-
AP (Power Boost): +1
Progression 2*: +2

Glow Suppression [Rank 4] 4pp
Subtle: 1/rank
-----------------------------------------
-Extras-
Duration (Continuous): +1/rank
-Flaws-
Action (Move): -1/rank
Hard to Lose: -1/rank
Limited (12 hrs): -1/rank**
Permanent: -1/rank
-Drawbacks-
Power Loss (Array) -1***

(Alternate) Power Boost 5:

Type: Trait
Action: Move (active)
Range: Personal
Duration: Instant
Save: Fortitude (harmless)
Cost: 1 point per 3 ranks +1

You channel destructive energy to become awesome.

Boost 1 (PL): 1/rank
-Extras-
Action (Move): +1/rank
-Flaws-
Range (Personal): -1/rank
Side Effect (Rage): -2/rank
-Feats-
Alternate Power: +1
Dynamic: +1
-Drawbacks-
Limited Dynamic: -1

------------------------------------------------

* The progression feat is added to my Damage Control power, allowing me to store more energy.
** The Suit can only function for up to 12 hours continuously, after which it much 'recharge' for a like amount of time.
*** Because the suit f's with my powers, disabling the suit *while* it's operating causes a temporary power loss

Also probably going to tweak the collar to make things a little more manageable in case of mind control. XP

Since Andrew is sick, and therefor skyping in, and my laptop is broken, I'm just running the game Via Skype and/or Maptools tonight. That OK with Everyone?
Poit-Narf
Assuming you change "Skype and/or Maptools" to "Skype", yeah, that sounds good. nyahnyah.gif
Rad
Poor me, stuck at the office all night with a katana, and no robbers or zombies...
Rad
Oh crap, did I do math wrong, or do we PL-up again next session--looks like we're one PP away with the 7pp we got tonight... (3 from the missions, 4 from the feats Tom gave us)

...in that case, I really shouldn't miss next session. But then there's the matter of Tori...

...well, we'll see what happens. Maybe we'll be worn out by then. biggrin.gif

There hasn't been much to post about...

Rad
Indeed.

Sorry about all the no-shows lately. Not sure what all happened while I was gone but I've been working on a new, less math-intensive character and wanted to float this idea for a retcon to explain Conduit's absence:

Conduit, having found a world in which the authorities are evil and balls-out revolution would actually be heroic, hooks up with Lady Anarchy and dedicates his life to taking over the world with her and Mind-Master. (or whatever his name was)

Needing another hero to help out with the whole "stop Omega from destroying the multiverse" thing, the angel responsible for our dimension-hopping snags my new character from *his* home dimension and sends him with you guys.

Or, if you've already finished that, random magitech experiment goes wrong and flings Guilliard Fawkes into Freedom City. Yeah, my new character is a steampunk inventor/alchemist/adventurer from a world where magic and technology developed side by side. Hopefully I'll get him finished in time for tonight's game. biggrin.gif

That would be great. Except we finished up on M&M and are moving on to Mekton Zeta. It won the vote.

Great. Well, off to learn a new system and draw up a character then. FYI I'll be out of town on the 27th and probably all of December. Don't think I'll be able to skype in on the 27th but I should be online in December no prob.

By the way, Tom, do you think you could bring your Fallout disks (1, 2, & 3) in this Friday? I'd really appreciate it.

Ja ne!

If you can't create your CTech character and Chasmal, I'll eat my Hat.
Rad
Well, I probably could, but I was going a slightly different direction with this one. Besides, the lifepath took me some interesting places.

By the way, what's out tech level and how many points do we have to build our characters and mecha with? I can't really do more than window-shop at this point without knowing that...

...also, are we using anything out of Zeta +, or just sticking to the core book?

Heh, either way, Toshiro Akai is going to rock. Planning on going melee-based, with some ranged weapons to soften the enemy up while closing. That beam sweeper could be glorious in the right hands... biggrin.gif

Edit: God-dmmt, I forgot to put Grav lens on the restricted gear list.

...and how many points for the character? That bit's kinda important.

Anyway, I'll get to work on the mech.

BTW, I rolled up two lifepaths, just to see what would happen. Should I play the poor only child with an enemy? Or the rich quintuplet? XD

Wow, and that's there--what? Just to scare us? XD

So anyway, my laptop died. The housing the power cord plugs into broke loose and is now rattling around in the case somewhere. On the plus side I managed to transfer my Mekton Z files to an external hard drive before the battery gave out. Also turns out you can remove the hard drive pretty easily, which means there might be a way to recover the data.

What all this means is that I'll need to somehow get a wireless router and a new laptop to join you guys via skype in December, which I'm not sure I'll be able to do. We'll see what happens.

On the plus side, I finally got my mech done.

Two quick questions before I go:

1) Do we get to keep any leftover CP from building our mech, or should we try to get as close to 400 even as we can? Pisses me off because I actually *had* it at an even 400 cp--and then I realized I'd forgot to buy hands. XP

...and...

2) What level of ability should I be aiming for when I build my character? I'd like to make well-rounded and realistic rookie pilot, but knowing our group I may have to ditch character-driven skill choices and just max out my mecha combat to keep up. Also, whats the deal with these "Prodigy" rules? Where do I find them?

Anyway, if you guys could list what your average attack and piloting roll bonuses are (Stat + Skill + mecha modifiers) that'd be a big help in helping me figure out how to allocate my skill points.

Also, my mech 'Shizaku' is made of terrible amounts of WIN. biggrin.gif
Matsci
Why would you be scarred of your own ship? wink.gif

Sorry to hear about the Laptop, but you are right about data recovery being easy. I have a case that turns old laptop HDs into an External Hard drive.

Also- Wireless Routers- Cheap @ 20$.
New Laptop- Expensive at 230$ dollars. 260$ if you don't want to have to Paint it.

A. Try to get as close to 400 as possible. I will not hold it against you if you are a point or 2 over.

B. I don't know for most of the group, but I know Andrew has a +7, but he is an experienced character.

C. The Prodogy rules are from the Mekton Zeta rules archive
Matsci
Happy Thanksgivin people!.

Talk to most of you tomorrow.

Haha, yeah, like I'd buy one of those shit netbooks. My new laptop runs fallout 3 better than my tower at home. X3

(thanks again for the info on windows 7, Tom, and for loaning me the disks)

So that was *our* ship?

Sweet. I figured not since it was way over 400 cp.

Anyway, I'll finalize my mech and character with these things in mind. If (d10 + 7) is the average, I may end up being one of our best pilots, despite being a rookie. XD (My mech has no MR penalty)

Anyway, I *might* be able to get online for the game this friday, but don't hold your breath.

One last question: How are upgrades to our mech going to work? Specifically, if we upgrade a component (say, replacing a beam weapon with an energy pool) do we have to scrap the old part and buy the new one whole cost, or do we just pay the difference? And how much CP (or equivalent) are we going to be pulling down per session?

I ask because my mech idea is going to be a prototype, and I want to know whether I should buy normal systems and change them, or buy the energy pools outright, and get the absorbing shield to make them work later...
Matsci
No, Andrew's Skill is +7. His roll is like +14-16 for piloting. Jerimiah in the Behemoth has +7 on dodging, but +11 to hit, avg +9. He was forgetting the Targeting Computer.

Generic Mooks have +7-10.

Since Garret is in charge of R&D, he can pull 95% of the CP out of an Item for manufacturing purposes.

As for CP, do well on missions, and bring back intact Mecha bits to feed Garret's mech. nyahnyah.gif
Matsci
Speaking of Kickass mechs, Can I get stats for peoples mechs?
Rad
Okay, thanks. Turns out I have three more questions:

1) Would a "Shock Only" Melee Weapon (not EMW) count as energy when hitting RAM armor?

2) What would the cost modifier be for making an energy weapon "Shock Only"? It's x2 for (non-energy) melee weapons, vs x3 for Shock Added, but the closest core mechanic for energy melee weapons is the "Special Effect Weapon" stupid trick, which is x1.33, and acts like Shock Added with a +10 bonus to the save difficulty. I can use that if I have to, but I wanted a weapon that only does shock damage so that it affects the pilot without damaging the mech. (Fits the reaper theme of taking out the target's "soul", leaving a lifeless husk.)

3) On the Prodigy archetype: do you still pick a Rookie template for starting skills and gear? The prodigy archetype doesn't list any of it's own, and it seems balanced against itself as far as the slow progression in most areas and uber progression in one, so leaving that out would be kinda' harsh, IMO.

I'll have my mech sheet scanned in just as soon as I finish filling it out. Looks like I almost definitely won't be able to make the game tomorrow, but after that I'll be in Martinez and won't have any problems getting online, so I should be able to make the next game and have my sheet posted in a few days.

Some highlights:

50 ton Heavy Striker mech (after efficiency)
+0 MV modifier
Land MA: 8
Flight MA: 20
MP: +134%

Powerplant: Supercharged Hot Fusion
Cockpit Controls: Thought Control

Primary Weapon: "Electroscythe" 12-kill Shock Only Melee Weapon
Secondary Weapon: "Ablation Cannon" 1-kill Infinite-Burst Beam Weapon with a charge time of 1 action

When I upgrade I'm going to switch the cannon (and possibly the scythe, depending on the answers to 1 and 2, above) to an energy pool and strap RAM-armor shields on the mech's wings to pump it up. Thinking about Light Heavy Gamma-RAM Command Armor, eventually, loaded with energy batteries and spare fuel.

OH!

Question 4: If you strap command armor on your mech's arms, do the extra spaces increase the size weapon it can hold? Or do you still count only the bare arm-servos?

Yes, Yes it would. Electricity is a form of energy

Ya, so I don't think that I'm not going to be playing Mekton, it does not interest me and therefore I think it is a waist of my time to play it.

When you guys want to change systems to shadow run or something then have tom or andrew give me a call.

I will continue to work on the blending of 3.5 and 4ed

QUOTE ('Matsci')
Why would you want a Shock only EMW anyway?

Two words: Energy Pools.

I can't link a Shock-Only melee weapon into an energy pool unless I pay an extra 25% to make it morphable, and I figure if I'm going to have RAM shields powering up my weapons, I may as well let the scythe benefit too--since you can swap power between pools with a single action. And I want the Electroscythe to stay shock-only because that's the whole point: A weapon system that destroys the pilot, without damaging the mech.

Kinda' what you guys have been talking about, isn't it? biggrin.gif

I've misspelled my own last name on occasion. I never passed a spelling test. I have Dysgrapghia. The only reason there aren't that many spelling errors in my posts is that Firefox has a spellchecker.

So, can anybody remind me how much CP we have to upgrade our mechs? I want to see if I have enough for that RAM shield/energy pool system. May just get better Maneuver Verniers instead...

[edit] Also, with the Re-Entry packages we all bought for the last mission: does the -2 penalty to MV & MA for an external system apply constantly, or only while it's attached/in use? (ie: Until the package discards at cloud-level and you switch over to standard flight systems)

[edit2] One last thing: Can you improve the efficiency of an existing system or do you have to strip it out completely and replace it with a more efficient version? (ie: can you just apply efficiency to a system you've already bought, without having to scrap it and get only 95% of it's cp towards a new, more efficient version of the same thing?)

Moreover, with the advances in technology, they can even be installed in things you might not expect them to be: someone's clothing, a big piece of jewelry or other accessory, or in something else, like a teddy bear, a cigar case or the like. What does your commlink look like? About half the commlinks in existence are some kind of iPod-looking thing worn at the belt, hung around the neck by a lanyard or placed in an article of clothing in commlink pockets designed just for that. The rest of them take interesting shapes, like a bracelet of some sort, or a slightly oversized belt buckle. For a more extreme example, have a look at Ranka's Salmander commlink in Macross Frontier

Virtual Reality Environment
: Think of your personal node (the "computer environment" generated by your commlink) as a room, or personalized island. What does it look like? What kind of theme does it have? Most OS programs come installed with a generic layout that emphasizes the brand - similar to the way OS X has a simple blue background, and basic Mac icons. But most people like to either purchase an environment, having someone work up a unique one for them or even do it themselves (you need the Software skill). Is it a licensed commercial property, made to look like the set of a popular trideo show, or a favorite movie? Maybe it's a historical environment, like ancient Roman temple or feudal Japanese daimyo's castle. It may also be something entirely fantastic, like a rendition of what one of the astral metaplanes looks like, something out of H.R. Giger's nightmares, or an Escher painting.

Virtual Interaction:
What does it look like when you do things in that environment? Every commlink runs several programs - things like Edit (for communicating with other nodes, text messaging, video conferencing and the like), Browse (for performing search engine-style data searches that cover the Matrix), Command (for slaving cyberware and other items to your node), Scan (for searching out other items with a Signal rating in your physical area) or Analyze (for examining other Matrix icons to figure out what they are). Maybe the icon that represents your cybereyes in your feudal Japanese castle is an open window, with information about the eyes displayed symbolically there - how bright it is outside tells you the levels of light the eye is currently taking in, and if the cherry blossom trees outside are starting to look withered and blighted, you may need to go visit a cybertechnician to get a tune-up.

AR Representation: If someone else can see your AR interactions, what does your "desktop" look like? Remember that AR creates floating icons that represent various things around you, and these icons generally have some kind of tie to your VR environment. So, if you have an H.R. Giger themed VR environment, the window that you open to browse the Matrix for movie reviews might manifest as some kind of strange egg-like construct that you plunge your hand into and dig around, until you pull out the little steel spheres that represent individual playable media files of those reviews. Most people have a variety of icons orbitting themselves at one time, though they're generally the only ones who can see it - think of your desktop computer when you're using it. What does your icon for the music you're playing look like, and what do you have to do to turn up the music or change the selection? When you get an incoming video conference call, what does it do? What icon floats off to your left, waiting for you to activate it and unlock the doors and start the engine?

Commlink: The commlink is part of a small metal alcohol flask, and usually strapped onto the belt. It doesn't look remarkable, except for a symbol
of the CSA etched onto it. A bonus is that my character is a known alcoholic, so nobody would think to take the flask away if they wanted to strip
me of my commlink. It has a wireless signel that's connected to my character's cybereyes, but it has a skinlink covering on the bottom (which look like
a leather) in case of jamming.

VRE: My character's VRE uses a forest frontier theme, created by his Technomancer contact. The main area is a clearing in a huge forest, with a log
cabin in the middle of it. A cellar can be access through a door on the ground next to house, with a small stream flowing past the cabin. Inside the
cabin is a bed, a firestove with a antique gun mounted over it, a tool chest, and a chair. A mounted bear head hang over the bed, and a bear skin rug
is in the middle of the room. It is darkly lit, even in the "daytime", and gives off a sense of solitude and "leave me alone" feeling.
The cellar contains various items, which represents programs, on various shelves and chests.

VI: When interacting the Matrix with Browse or Scan, my character simply goes out into the forest. Sites are cabins that are connected to my cabin with
dirt paths. The less traffic a site receive, the less obvious the paths are. Bookmarks basically big signs nailed to the trees pointing my character
to the site. For things I downloaded, they appear as items of usefulness. For example, if I want information, it appears as a book of some sort hidden in
a hole of a tree. A program, on the other hand, looks like a tool. Connecting to a physical device are landmarks, and needs me to sketch it into a
personal book. The following page with then transmit information to me. For example, connecting to a cybereye requires me to sketch a tall tree, and the
page after that would give me a picture of what the eyes looking at, with information about the status of the cybereyes underneath it. Editing requires
my character to go to a bird-nest on top of the door frame, and grab an egg from it. At which point, it turns into a pigeon. As soon as I attach a
"file" to it in the form of a piece of paper tied to the leg, it flies off to the other node. Once I'm connected, I can use another piece of paper to
communicate. If I come across a item my OS can not identify, it looks like a small chest. If it simply unknown, all I have to do to open the chest and
open it. If it is encrypted, I "hack" it by using a hacking program in the form of a lock pick.

AR: To other people, I look as I usually look, except I'm carrying a leather bag. If I open a file, I rummage through my bag for a book and read it. If it is
music, opening the bag allows a bird to fly out and start playing the music. Programs are various tools, like scanning is a telescope and analyze is a
magnifying glass.
