I've had limited success with online play-by-post games before. Irregardless, I want to try something out, and this seems like the best venue for it. What I'm looking for is about 4 runners. Standard char-gen, with Street Magic and Augmentation both legal. No cyberzombies, brains in boxes, or starting with membership in one of those weird, cool magical groups like the 10,000 Daggers one.

I'm setting my sights low. One adventure, fairly simple. I will post about once a day (maybe more), with sundays possibly being a difficult day for me to manage. I'm looking to exercise some GMing muscles that have atrophied in the past year or so. Patience and feedback from the players would be well appreciated.

The campaign itself would be starting around the L.A. Sprawl, with the runners having recently arrived in the San Fernando Valley area. They aren't famous (yet), don't have P2.0 (yet)...they're more or less fresh off the bus. I was considering Neo-Tokyo, but it's far too restrictive on metahumans to be playable without restricting players to humans-only, IMO.
Whipstitch
I'm interested, although it's 2 am right now and hard for me to think too much about what character concept I'd like to play. It's too bad you're not considering Arsenal yet (not that I blame you, since it's only out in PDF form biggrin.gif); there's an awesome off-road truck designed for desert terrain that's had me thinking of creating a combination Rigger/Face type smuggler, and LA is such a driving oriented sprawl that it would have meshed rather well, especially since it's where all the people with pretty faces think they belong anyway.

One caveat; I'm not terribly experienced with play-by-post games, but on the upside I enjoy writing, so I think I could adapt fairly quickly.
Abbandon
Well I am semi interested. I have an offensively orientated male human mage, and a gun bunny mystic adept elf chick who I wouldnt mind using.

If other people want to play you can pass me over, but if not I will gladly step up. Im still probably a noob as far as rules and experience are concerned.
BlackHat
P2.0? I should probably know what that is... but I don't. biggrin.gif

P2.0? I should probably know what that is... but I don't.

Media-type shadowrunning as practiced in L.A. wink.gif

I have a surfer chick adept that might fit in, but I'd really have to trim her down to fit the criteria.
SoyKaf Adict
Bah, who needs fancy-shmansy magic? Adepts, peh! Lets bring on the hurt, with a chromed vengeance!

Oh, yeah, I'd totally love to play.

Want us to e-mail you our character ideas in depth?

A concept I would like to see work, especially in LA Sprawl... Desperado, more later if I get picked.
JonathanC
Email or PM, both are fine.

P2.0 is a concept introduced in Corporate Enclaves; you don't have to worry about it yet, I'll be introducing it in the campaign. It's basically like a more obnoxious version of Myspace that exists in AR. Not only are you judged by the size of your friend lists, but by how close you are to the CEO of Horizon (and by extension, every other important person in the sprawl), and by how many people subscribe to your blog.

P2.0 Runners have to deal with people basically watching their every move, cameras following them around during ops, etc. There are paparazzi drone cameras everywhere. The flipside is that if you duck all of this stuff, avoid/shoot the drones, and don't try to get on P2.0, you're locked out of the big jobs.
Whipstitch
Please disregard my earlier post; bottom line is that I've been neglecting my course load bad enough as it is and really need to bear down on IRL a bit more.
Glyph
I would be interested. I have a character I'm working on, Dancer, an adept who is a face, and also decent in combat.
JonathanC
That sounds good. A perfect fit for SR Los Angeles, really.
Ezeckial
I'm finding myself with way too much time on my hands between calls at work and would be interested in picking up a second game.

Arsenal fair game? I'd like to play an over the top Troll with a BIG gun, I think that would fit in perfectly with LA.
JonathanC
I won't have Arsenal until it comes out in hardback, so I'm afraid Arsenal is not fair game yet. frown.gif

Street Magic and Augmentation are all right though, within the aforementioned limits.
Abschalten
I wouldn't mine joining in, but it seems like you've got a full crew as it is. If somebody drops out I could whip up a neat character and join in.
JonathanC
Whipstitch had to drop out, and I still haven't received any characters yet, so the makeup of the team is still pretty fluid.
Glyph
I'm still working on Dancer's background, but I've made good progress on it. I should get the sheet to you sometime this week.
JonathanC
Sounds good.
Cthulhudreams
Question - do you have any house rules for the matrix, like the ever fun 'Logic + Skill capped by program' or similar?
JonathanC
Currently I'm not planning to use any house rules. Yes, this allows for dumb hackers, but script kiddies exist in real life too. smile.gif
Glyph
Dancer has been sent.
Method
I'd also be very interested if you end up needing more players. I was actually thinking of starting a game like this myself (to learn the new edition that is).

What kind of theme are you going for? "Dark and gritty" or "pink-mohawk" or something else?
Sir_Psycho
I know they're new to shadowrunning, but what's the power level and build point allocation? I'd be willing to build an infiltration spec. hacker type with bioware and gymnastic prowess for getting to targets. He could either be an assassin or be a very sneaky and unethical journalist/photojournalist (Prefferred. perfect for L.A - Sam Fisher as a papparazzo)

Also I'm thinking of putting together an sioux ex-wildcat sniper, who dabbles in electronic warfare, intelligence and communications jamming, maybe with a drone or two for target help and cover. Probably a nice commlink and some sweet smartlink and zooming vision mag ware.
Fuchs
I used standard SR4 creation rules (400 BP, max of 50 BP in gear, max of 200 BP in attributes).

And a team full of "facey types" would be fun for a media runner group, IMHO.
Tobias
Well, I echo the comment about having way too much time between calls at work. And this is one of the fun forums I like to spend time on. I wouldn't mind playing, I'm easy with character types. But if your full up I don't mind just watching. wink.gif
Sir_Psycho
Looking over my proposed char sheet, and the list of characters offered, we have a few adepts, facey, it seems, a covert ops photojournalist hacker, and a troll with a big gun. So it looks like we're missing good magic support to fill roles such as illusion spells, spirit cover and healing, if you don't mind playing it.

Also, Ezeckial, seems we might have TWO pornomancers/physads (i think), so some fire support will still be useful, but it would be absolutely lovely for us to have a big troll with some spare points put into intimidation, although you'll probably need to bump the charisma so you're not just relying on Troll intimidation modifiers.

Also, is this sort of pre-game table talk allowed? And I'm finished with my character, so do I send it to JohnC or can I post it here, perhaps under a spoiler?
Glyph
That brings up something I was wondering myself. How well do these characters know each other? Have they met at all, or will they first meet each other when they see the Johnson? Also, do you want us to put up brief character descriptions?
Fuchs
I made a hacker with secondary face aspect. As good as finished, although a few BPs are left to allocate still, so PMed to to JonathanC.

No real specialist (unaugmented skills range from 2 to 4). Post the characters here before, after GM approval, or not at all?
Fuchs
Add: If anyone wants a render of their character PM me the description and I'll give it a try, given time.
Sir_Psycho

I'll write one up in a way that you could have heard it from your fixer, johnson, running mate or any contact.

"Ok chum there's this shady breeder, no offense, making his way into the plex. Black summich? Pillar? Black Pillgy? Oh yeah, Pilger. Blackie Pilger. An alias, says the net. Don't know much. He's a radical photojournalist, puts wordy pieces and hush-hush snaps together from his snoop biz that he's been doing for years. Started young in Japan, 'cept he's 'alf of a semite, apparently. Done big pieces in Hong Kong, The Phillipines, bit o' biz in Europe for Anarchist Black Cross, does anti-corp write ups, bolshy faggot. Even went to france, but them aristos scared him away. Tight bunch, them. Anyway, I don't know if you remember, it barely made the trix, this blogger, Vaskiadis, Ork with huge hez, he must have been, because they found him rotting in a stormwater drain down in Santa Monica, electrical burns and a double-tap to his forehead. His blog, L.A. Veritas, was pretty big amongst the media-savvy kids here in L.A., didn't toe the corporate media line, much, looks like it got him in the end. Vut! Getting way off track here. Point is, chummer, if you want, I can put you in touch, he might be good for something coming up, the boy can hack, learned in Japan, and he can get into places the snoops you run with flashing their fake Horizon badge and batting their eyelashes can't. He's anti-social and neurotic, and he's not a pitfighter, but the kid understands the media, and despite his hard-on for the truth, he's a journalist, and that goes far in this town."

So there's some hooks that you could use to know this guy. I've got five BP left, so if some-one wants to be friends, and they can think of a link, that's cool. I wouldn't mind buying more gear though, so let me know before i'm tempted.
HeySparky
I'm interested in a casual game. LA sounds like a nice switch up on things too. smile.gif Kicking around ideas.
Tobias
regarding character type, i'm thinking about an illusionist magician of some sort. Using trid phantasm, mask spells etc... Have the basics worked out, just down to tweaking.

Oh regarding char gen can we do custom spells, as I was wanting quite a few of the illusion spells rejigged as self-only spells(Mainly to reduce the drain) If not thats fine.
Method
It seems like there are a lot of people posting interest and character concepts, but not real direction here. Has anyone heard anything from JonathanC?
Sir_Psycho
JohnC hasn't posted here for quite some time. I'm not sure why, but it seems unlikely that a game would be manageable if things continue like this.

As for direction, Fuchs and I have both written up stats and backgrounds for our characters, and me and ES_Sparky have been in limited correspondance about character types.

Also, Tobias, I understand the need to control the drain, but you can believe that my character would definately appreciate some magical stealth-assistance.
Tobias
It was mainly to have both spells. Can't not help your team wink.gif. But yeah the lack of response from JohnC is worying
Fuchs
Indeed.
quentra
The game still open? I have a sniper-mage I could run, since I noticed y'all were short a mage.
JonathanC
Sorry about the absence, things got a little thick at work, then I took some time off to catch up on other stuff. So far I've received two complete characters, and it sounds like there are about 3 more that are ready, is that correct?
Fuchs
Also, is pre-game table talk allowed, disallowed, encouraged? Like, coordinating characters?
JonathanC
I see no reason to forbid it, especially if it benefits in-character interaction during the game itself.

edit: I just got the last version of your character, Fuchs. Looks good. smile.gif
Abbandon
*activates spam bomb*
JonathanC
Spam bomb received. Nice character backgrounds. Is there one that you prefer, or did you want me to pick one? I'm still at work at the moment, but I can go over them again when I get home.
Abbandon
You can pick whichever sounds intresting to you. I like them all equally. Die and Spiritbomb were both in failed games before. Like I said you can use my characters for a second roud draft. If not enough people want to play bad enough I am willing to step up and fill a slot. I am pretty active hehe.

And simsense vertigo is -10bp(-15 for hackers/techno's).

Their bakgrounds are alright..I try to explain all the skills away. Other people could probably do alot better heh. And when i started sending them to you I noticed I should have made little character concept section to just to go over how i plan on using the character, what i hope they become. But If i only did half like that it would look sloppy hehe.

I tried to get a 4th character ready but I just dont think he is a team player. Imagine a character like the dude from the movie Transporter. Pure driver but also with some combat skills. There's no way in hell im giving up his sedan for a bulldog though just so i can fit some troll's ass i nthe backseat lol. If there are no trolls maybe I will submit him. I forget if he is ready or not. He is kind of unfinished until i can get a rulebook that tells me what kind of cool things i can do to mod out the car lol.
Fuchs
The offer for a render still stands. If anyone wants a render of their character, send me the description and I'll see what I can come up with.

And here's the character. If anyone else's character is from New Orleans, or has some Mob ties then they might've met/heard of each other.

(Edit: Noticed I forgot to get an agent, so swapped middle lifestyle prepayment for an agent level 3.)

[ Spoiler ]
Abbandon
omg Fuchs. The other day I tried to hand draw pictures of some of my characters, and use ms paint. Both things ended in complete and utter trash and here you are making computer renders of shit lol. Its insane.

@Jonathan. Didnt want you to feel left out so here are the little concept blurbs I made for my 3 characters
[ Spoiler ]
JonathanC
I loved Daredevil during the Brian Bendis run, so anyone with a similarity to Bullseye has a special place in my heart. smile.gif
Abbandon
I was going for more of a female Gambit character from x-men but hey if its gets her a spot yeah...she is based off of Bullseye lol....
Glyph
Gambit uses cards as his schtick (although he can actually charge other kinds of objects with energy, too).

Bullseye, though, is infamous for his duel with Electra, where he sent a regular playing card into her throat, before impaling her with one of her own sais. Your character does resemble Bullseye a bit more, because Bullseye is the embodiment of the missile mastery power.
Abbandon
haha omg Daredevil was being played tonight on FX and I watched that duel. He even used the missle parry adept power to catch a sai electra threw at him. One of the first things I will try to do with that character if i dont have that power already to take a martial art qaulity or whatever that has a manuever where i can make call shot a free action, then i can aim for throats to. I already knew I wanted to used call shots to bypass armor or aim for weak points.
Glyph
Here is a brief character description of Dancer:

Dancer

Description
Dancer is a petite but curvy orkish woman who moves with the feline grace of a dancer. Pale blonde hair in a tousled pixie cut frames a deceptively innocent-looking face. She has startling bright green eyes, and a golden tan that is too lush and even to be natural. She has several tattoos - tribal designs winding around her forearms, a circle of flames around her navel, and a floral design on the small of her back. She wears minimal cosmetics and dresses to blend in (except in nightclubs, where she is very daring), but she still draws people's eyes. Although attractive by human standards, she has not gone for any procedures to alter her orkish looks (tusk reduction, etc.).

Background
Dancer is a runner out of Seattle, a con artist and backup gunsel who has gravitated towards jobs such as information gathering, willing extractions, and datasteals. Subtler jobs where violence is not as ubituous, if still small-time stuff for the most part. There are rumors she danced in some of the sleazier clubs to supplement her income when she was starting out, and darker rumors that she used to do wetwork. The latter rumor doesn't quite seem to fit her personality, though. While ruthless when she has to be, she tends to shun violence except as a last resort.

Personality
Dancer's original youthful idealism has faded to a nonchalant cynicism. She has seen it all, and nothing much fazes her any more. She is casually promiscuous and cheerfully amoral, but in a laid-back, casual way. Her manner actually induces people to open up to her, since she gives the impression of being someone who won't be shocked or judgemental at most admissions. Although she tells herself that she has given up her dreams of being a dancer, it is still there in the back of her mind. This is L.A., after all. cool.gif

Role
Dancer is an adept who is a decent face, decent in combat, and good at dancing - which might be useful if she is used as a distraction. Her background as a wannabe star also gives her some knowledge skills that could be useful in L.A. Since she is new to L.A., I only gave her one contact, a fixer that she got an introduction to from her old fixer.

It seems unlikely she met Blackie Pilger or DD before coming to L.A. She could have heard about Blackie from her fixer contact, and might have met DD while hitting the night clubs. As for Abbandon, depends on which character he plays.
Abbandon
Damn it Glyph, thanx for making feel stupid lol. Your description is organized, descriptive, and short.

My character descriptions look like somebody took everything i wrote, mixed it all up and then barfed it all out onto the floor to make one big mess lol.

Now I got one more thing added to my plate of things to do today. Make a hacker or atleast further develop his concept, edit my character descriptions , and try to get in some more "Twisted Metal: Head On" ...

Thanx!!!
(im not really angry, just joking around)
Fuchs
(edited character to add an agent.)
