Always happy to oblige.

@Penta:

What would it take to get a old-school P90?
Penta
Yeah, fair point. Okay, so we have our plans. Someone save the link. I'm going to post up the Ship History and stuff (originally done by Milk Ducks, then I ripped the guts open and redid it to taste) here, and then later on the OOC thread after all characters (incl BaronKen) have gone up.
---

Name: MY Fedallah
Home Port: Newport, Rhode Island
Flag state: UCAS
Manufacturer: AH Donaldson Yachts, Inc. (Newport, RI)
Keel laid: 08/01/2071
Launched: 09/01/2071

History:

The Fedallah began life as just another yacht, the MY Golden Hecate, slated for the personal use of another up-and-coming executive with an A-rated corporation. That is, until said executive over-stepped his authority, showing the same leadership and decisiveness that made him a rising star. The only difference now was he had failed to deliver, and all the enemies he had stepped on to get that far up dragged the star back down.

Unknown to the company, the executive had ordered severe upgrades to his personal yacht that ballooned the pricetag to thrice that of a comparable Classique III. Unwilling to pay for the extravagances, the company simply ceased all contact. Eventually the half-built yacht would be sold off to the Internal Revenue Service by the shipyard to settle a tax debt on the part of the ordering customer; the IRS ordered finishing of the construction and attempted to auction off the yacht at a profit. The yacht instead was sold to a confidential client at a break-even point, especially after fees (to the auctioneer, the yard, etc) were paid.

In February, 2072, she was re-registered as the MY Fedallah, after being towed to a yard in Quincy, MA, for substantial modification.

MusicMan: As an operating firearm? At least 60k nuyen. At least.

(I am not going to stat one.)

Psst, Marwynn not Milk Ducks. Or maybe you hybridized our backgrounds.

No, my brain got the M-names confused.

Just make sure you don't melt the barrel. That's not happiness.
Penta
Okay, just to give a 0100 (EDT) update:

everybody is posted except BaronKen and KnightSaber.

KnightSaber is approved, she just needs to post it all up.

BaronKen was I think busy with work - ergo I'm not stressing.
---

First post is done. Not posted, but done. Tomorrow (Sunday), I'll work on post 2.

The ship packet appears to be done. I'm going to declare that the sundeck on the Phoenix plans, when cleared of all furnishings, is big enough to launch up to Body 2 drones through VTOL. Unless someone wants to figure out how to fit a helipad within those basic dimensions.

I'll post the non-web elements of the packet (the ship history primarily, but also the final equipment list) along with the first post.

2 karma is available to the photoshop junky who manages to turn the phoenix plans into an "updated", campaign-ready set of floorplans. If you can figure out how to download them.
---

For authenticity's sake, I want everyone to learn how to speak "Naval".smile.gif 2 karma to the person who produces the best vocabulary of maritime terms for use in the campaign.

Edit: I stand corrected. 1 minute after I post this, Knight Saber posts her character.

BaronKen, we're all waitin' on you.smile.gif
Penta
Whizbang gets 2 karma.
Marwynn
Well, I managed to save the flash swf file, open that up and printscreen it. It's illegible of course even zoomed in but you can kinda sorta make it out.

Taking a cue from this gameworld I sent a request for a packet, as a potential buyer. Let's see if they'll give out the deckplans too.
CollateralDynamo
Good luck Marwynn! Or should I say, "Yarr, I wish fer you to be gettin' da plunder...." Wait...wrong type of maritime jargon...whatevs.

Its all coming together nicely...
Karoline
I just realized something. We were all very concerned how we were going to get cargo onto our ships from another ship, but I realized we must have some kind of way to get it on in.... crud, that would likely be a crane on the shore.... well anyway, my thought was that we could have a reinforced gangplank that can handle several tons on it, and we could use that to act as a bridge between our ship and theirs to get cargo across.

Also, KS, I think you gave yourself too few BP for 'records on file', it should be worth 10 BP, not just 5.
Penta
Doh, that's right, Karoline. It's my goof - I told Knight Saber I was giving her the flaw at what I thought was the correct BP amount, but did so without checking RC. You get a cookie.

---

With that, I should make a note as to how I interpret that flaw.

Records on File, to me, does not necessarily mean you have derogatory records against you on file. It means that at some point, your real identity went through a security clearance investigation (including the required investigation to enter virtually any first-world military), some kind of reasonably-thorough background check, etc. It also includes, say, service jackets.

I really see this applying if you're formerly attached to a military, particularly if you're formerly-attached to any variety of special operations force (or have been an officer or officer-candidate); They keep tabs on you in a general sense, so they know where to send notices in case of recall (which usually means wartime, to be honest).

I make a note of who the records would be held by. Especially after the Crash of 2029, I don't see records being kept solely in digital form. Governments, militaries in particular, are too conservative for otherwise to be true (and for the CAS and UCAS (taking a leaf from their predecessor states), records storage is governed by extensive regulations basically mandating that the truly important digital files also get kept on paper where it is at all possible, or in copies in off-Matrix storage where it isn't. (This is based on RL government recordkeeping practices, which are scary in their detail and redundancy when applied properly.)).

Fret not: They are unlikely to share their records to any great degree. To pry a service record from the military for example, even a DD214, without the consent of the person being recorded is hard even when you're on the same team. Lord help you if you're another country (or a corp).
Penta
And now the news you've all been waiting for.

It is now 1000 EDT, on Sunday, 27 September 2009.

As of this moment, BaronKen has not gotten back to me with his sheet.

I'm heeding your calls, and I'm not holding up the train.

At 1000 EDT, tomorrow (Monday the 28th), all sheets will lock. BaronKen has until THEN to get his sheet in, or else he goes on reserve and will be waiting until you guys reach a port to join you - and will have to figure out for himself how he got there, though Roberts will make introductions. KnightSaber and anybody else who needs to correct errors in their sheets, you have until 1000 EDT tomorrow to do so. Please do not wait til the last minute.

---

At 1000 EDT tomorrow, or close to then, the first post goes up. I can't lock this thread, but I request that as soon as that post goes up, conversation shift to the OOC thread.

---

Karoline, please email me the FINALIZED group equipment sheet by tonight - spending all 500k. If you leave leftovers, I will apply them as I see fit so that the total equals 500k nuyen. If you go over, well, you'll be paying your employer the extra.

Once that is done, I will post the ship history and the group equipment list to the OOC thread.

---

I leave you with this poetic interlude.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again to the vagrant gypsy life.
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over."

- "Sea Fever", John Masefield OM, 1878-1967

Oh, one question. Since we don't have lifestyles (Based on us living on a ship) how much money do we start with? I'm curious because this is usually based on what lifestyle you have.
CollateralDynamo
Well, there is nothing preventing you from starting with a lifestyle and a home in Miami, that would make that question easy to answer...
if you haven't purchased a regular lifestyle for yourself that would indicate to me that you have gotten rid of most of your funds or for some reason need to just get the drek out of Miami. But a street lifestyle is free and its starting nuyen is 1d6x10. Enough to buy a couple of soycaf lattes!

Catching me on a day I'm feeling generous, so I'll say you start with 1d6x100 nuyen, representing liquidating whatever lifestyle you had in Miami, paying off minor debts, and getting ready for sea. This is if you did *not* start with a lifestyle.

Ship equipment, final version. Complainers will be thrown overboard:

No really, if you have any -vital- suggestions, please make them, but otherwise I think there has been enough tweaking.

Edited my sheet in the OOC thread. Anything else you guys can think of that I might need permits for?

Several of the game use http://invisiblecastle.com/. The site stores dice rolls online for a period of time!

Here's a link to a pretty decent online dice roller. I know I've seen ones that post your results as URLs, but I can't seem to find it right now; I'll look around a bit more when I get home tonight.

Okay, FYI: BaronKen emailed me, dropping out due to RL.frown.gif

Puppy sad.

What this means: For sanity's sake, you've still got til 1000 EDT tomorrow to fix your sheets. Additionally, I'll accept new people for reserve slots - essentially, the next person(s) to join will meet up with the team at some future point until we reach 10 people, at which point any newbies stay on reserve until either someone bows out or I figure out a way to run a group of more than 10 without my brain exploding.

And I get 5 more BP to play with... which is both good and bad. That's how I took Records on File to be. A Criminal SIN has records of your crimes and ID, but Records on File has a lot of overall information on you, good, bad and indifferent... medical records, history of movement, a lot about one's work, etc.

I don't have the Runner's Companion... what are the rules about having extra safehouses? Do you just pay for extra Lifestyles in different places? Having a few apartments (and thus addresses) on different islands might be useful.
Penta
I think that's the RAW...I'll look, and edit the post if I find differently in RC. *reads*

Yeah. The advanced lifestyle system is fun but more complex than I really want to get into at the start of the game. For now, we'll presume a safehouse is the cost of an additional lifestyle.
CollateralDynamo
Multiple lifestyles just are extra costs every month. Starting nuyen is calculated at your highest pre-bought lifestyle before character creation.

Yep, that's basically how you do other safehouses. RC has rules for splitting up the lifestyle, but Penta said he wasn't using them anyway. Some low low lifestyles make for decent safehouses. Maybe Penta will give you a discount since you won't need food/trid/matrix access or many of those other things when your not actually there.

I vote Invisible Castle as well for dice rolls. Great site, useful roller too. Rolling 4 dice for example and you can type 4d6.hits(5) and it'll show the individual rolls and sum up the results that are 5 or higher.

Question: Which area would you guys like to be Warded? I don't think Iago's the only awakened character here, so we can ward multiple spots perhaps. The Bridge would be my bet.

I agree with Invisible Castle. I've used it before and it seems to work quite well.

As for the warding... can't you ward the entire ship? I didn't think it was exceptionally difficult to do so, but I haven't looked over the magic rules in ages.
Penta
Um, you can't ward a mobile object, I believe. A ward is a fixed point in space.
Karoline
QUOTE (Penta @ Sep 27 2009, 06:24 PM) *

He's right. The ward can't move frown.gif

Edit: This seems to apply to lodges as well, though it is much less specific as to if the lodge moving through space is possible or not. It does say it isn't portable and can't be carried around, but that seemed to be talking about carrying the stuff in your pocket, not necessarily if the lodge was built in something that moved.
Marwynn
I was under the impression that you can't move the actual ward location by moving the anchor. The anchor can't be moved in relation to the ward, but since the ward is applied to the walls (or hull) of the ship I thought it was okay.

I got 250 cubic metres of wardspace apparently.
Karoline
No, it is saying that the anchor can't be moved more than a few cm from its original position though space, so it can't be placed on a car for example. It should be noted that this could allow for some interesting use of an earthquake to launch a magic attack because the quake might break the ward.

Edit: Also 250 cubic meters of ward space is cool but less impressive than it sounds. The boat is 60 meters long, and 12 meters wide. That means you could only cover about 1/3rd of a meter in height of the ship per warding. Given that the ship is at least... I don't know like 12 meters tall, it would take something like 36 wardings (Maybe less since it gets smaller near the bottom and top).
MusicMan
OTOH, since we'll be moving around alot, it'll be harder for our opponent's to scry on us and find us anyways... won't it? My SR Magic-fu is weak...
Knight Saber
Says here (SR4A p. 194) that "A basic ward must be placed on a non-living thing and must posses a physical anchor. The anchor cannot be be moved in relation to the ward." (Emphasis mine). A ward anchor on a ship wouldn't be moving in relation to the ship, so it's feasible.

That said, the engine room would take priority over the bridge. With a rigger and a skinlink, the ship can be operated from anywhere.

I've edited my sheet for the +5 BP... 1 point to get Medium Lifestyle, 2 on an automatics specialty and 2 bumping up contact ratings.
Penta
Thanks, Knight Saber.

Before I post, some brief thoughts:

1. I'm *considering* house-ruling a mechanical bonus to operating from the bridge/engine room, rather than everybody holing up in their quarters and just rigging the ship from bed. Maybe instead of a bonus to operating from those spaces, a penalty for operating from elsewhere. Then again, maybe not, but I want to encourage "traditional" modes of operating, even if in theory you can rig from bed. It makes for better RP.
2. Because the desc for Enhanced Imaging Screens seems to suggest that the screens work only in a small space, I'm figuring that on a ship, the most logical place for that is the bridge.

Thoughts in reply?
budoka05
Absolutely, screens on the bridge.

1. I totally want to rig the boat from my bed now.

2. My personal interpretation was that it made all the windows of the vehicle able to do this. I figured that would include the bridge (of course) as well as things like the portholes that might be in quarters, and windows in the other areas. I'd been hoping to be able to use it to make the ship look inhabited while we stowed away on our smaller boat, or all in one area for a surprise attack/defense.

Part of my reasoning for this is that the price was based on body, and the book gave specific mention of being able to make the vehicle look empty when it was not and inhabited when it was, which I would think would require the use of the side and back windows as well as just the front.
Penta
Okay, good point, I missed the point of price being based on body.
