I think it is "Leatherette."
Chinese Fruit Bat Leather. Very economical, but take very long time in catching and skinning. Difficult work, require specialized tools.

I was wrong, he certainly does say "leather" in post #1. I have to agree that it most certainly is not real leather, but I wouldn't expect it to be either. I think it is "Leatherette."
Not only that, but the post was a crib from the official website.
I'm not upset in the slightest however. As I said, actual "leather bound" hardcover books are not very common and tend to be massively expensive.
The book is precisely what it claimed to be otherwise, so I'm perfectly happy with it.

My poster was inside the front cover. I did have a bit of a crumple in the corner of the book (just noting as I'm seeing a few comments along the same lines).

There are four copies sitting at a nearby FLGS with numbers as low as 150. I'm now certain that the (fairly) low numbers are nothing special.

When a physical mold or plate is involved, low numbers are usually a bit cleaner, since the mold or plate wears during the production run.
But in the case of modern printing used for an item like this, the first copy is probably indistinguishable from the last copy.

#525 was delivered today in chilly London.
No obvious damage to slipcase or spine.
I think I'll just put it away, unopened...

I'm a little miffed that some of the stores got the low numbers and some of the preorders have gotten higher ones. I'm not outraged or anything. My book isn't any less valid for being in the 800's. I'm happy to finally have it. I'm just saying I'd prefer it have gone the other way.

Amazon gives you a good deal now, but that ignores the damage they due to the brick-and-mortar stores that keep our hobby alive by selling books at a price that would put a normal store out of business.
Without those stores as gathering places—and the new customers they bring into gaming—the hobby as-we-know-it will wither.
The problem is analogous to Walmart. The chain can save the average American family a few thousand a year, but it does so by pricing production out of the United States, forcing the loss of good domestic jobs. In the end Walmart costs the average family more in lost income then they saved in buying goods there.
Personally, I will only buy things from Amazon, that are not available from my local retailers.
Before the advent of the FLGS (and there was a time when there were none) how did the RPG industry come about?

Hobby shops (Like, Bike and Model hobby shops) were a major source. TSR also managed to make pretty good inroads into places like Bookstores (Waldnebooks had a whole D&D section back in the early 80's) and toystores (Childrens Palace, a largish toy chain that went out of business in the early 90's had a whole TSR display as well) in the late 70's, early 80's. Before that, primarly advertisements in magazines and mail order.

I used to get my old D&D books through Sears mail order. The other stuff used to be through the book stores. I didn't notice pure hobby shops (FLGS) with game books until the late 80s.
My number was 670 out of 1500. Just wish it had been 4 number less...

I haven't played Shadowrun since 1st and 2nd edition, though I bought the 4th Pdf a couple years ago. My store said he's be getting in a couple copies, so I bit the bullet and picked up a LE on Friday.
I got #40 of 1500, u here in Calgary, Alberta. The other copy was in the 100's I believe.
Looking forward to reading through it and maybe running a game. I got sucked back in and stopped at the LGS and picked up a copy of the Runner's Companion today.

I was going to ask yesterday, but didn't want to rub salt in the wound if you hadn't received it.
I've got a second copy coming from MilSims so that I can have one copy to GM with and one copy to forever remain in shrink wrapped glory on my shelf. Hopefully the second copy won't have a scuff mark (seeing white through the leatherette) in the top corner of the spine. Unbelievable considering the shrink wrap was fine and the slip case barely bented or marked.

Ugh, your going to get your second copy from those thieves !
So yeah, I got a reply from Tara just now, pretty quick reply, I only sent an email to her when I made the earlier post. I thought the US was in bed?
Anyways, she says its in a seperate box, which is counter productive I think (postage cost $46 for that one book), unless they did literally forget and are only just sending it now.

Or, it could be that Vice is being shipped from the BC warehouse, while Alliance sent out the LE.
