Yeah, you got the basic skills set, medicine, intelligence analysis, and...Um, I need ideas on applicable skills for comms, I can't read my own handwriting.
For comms, it'd likely be the the hacking, E-warfare, computer, and hardware skills.

Faraday: Yessss. Now if only I could find the 2.5 seasons I'd missed (S2, S3, and what's been broadcast of S4) I'd be a happy camper. For those of you in the US (who have cable and get USA), I can't recommend Burn Notice highly enough if you play or GM Shadowrun. It's not like it has a cyberpunk aesthetic, but it's rich on stuff that can be inspirational for SR. This is all in addition to it being simply great TV.
Horvagab: No problem.
Everybody else: As you can see, the answers to Barnyard are now up; point 10 on the ROE was kinda creepy to write in regards to the rape kits, but it makes sense they'd think of that as a possible issue. I'd like everybody to be swift in asking questions. You be swift in asking, I'll be as swift as possible in answering. The swifter everyone is, the quicker we can move on to a very brief "everybody posts once to check in before things move on" en route and planning/prep phase, and from then on to the actual sighting of
Chantico's Bounty.
If you want to do your own research (say through the Matrix), it's not totally possible
during the convo with Roberts (satellite comm of two-way video and audio takes up most of the ship's bandwidth for Matrix stuff and the like), but it is eminently possible to do afterwards. And Roberts encourages it (though I keep forgetting to write that in my posts), he just asks that you not give the Azzies any reason to suspect someone's interested in that specific ship, and that you send anything you find to him, whether it seems valuable or not, so that ONI can integrate it into their intel cycle and work from it to produce better intel for you guys (as well as the policymakers and such). OOCly, we'll handle it more or less like standard Matrix legwork and contacts stuff, if applicable.
All that said: I can't speak for anybody else, but though this game has moved slower than I thought it would (my fault in large part), I'm still quite ready, willing, and able to keep playing.
Barnyard doesn't get karma for asking the first questions, but Goon, you do have my thanks.

Xahn, probably too late for the montage/training scene.
Penta
Aug 1 2010, 06:44 PM
Some OOC explanation on the latest Roberts response: ICly and IRL, there are certain rules of thumb for the dispersal of (and safe concentrations of) non-lethal gases. Experienced users of them (like Sharky) may be presumed to know them. Actually, IRL, I think you're not supposed to use em in an enclosed space (and inside a ship definitely counts as that), but I'm willing to bet that if they use gas weapons in corpsec operations in offices in SR, they've gotten around that.
Similarly with tasers and stick'n'shock: IRL and ICly, there's a risk that if you use electric shock on an already-weakened person, you can kill them. OOCly, though, I'll just apply the normal rules for those.

OK, in all seriousness. Post the scene once we're done having you guys pull info from Roberts. I normally would be strenuously opposed to retroposting on a forum, given the sequential nature of things that mean a retropost mucks up the flow of reading severely, but I'll allow it just this once. Well b4 we can post IC we need to hash out OOC. So bar shadowing the ship from a good distance till we can get her where we want her. What should be our plan of action? We have the kit to zip out on speed boats and possablely divers to make a beach head. Tactics wise how heavy and force full? We can efficiently hit her hard make a big nosie flash the big guns and hope they play nice. Or we can run it a bit more cloak and dagger get an advance party one cut the engines and radio while its being jammed to allow a bigger attack to go forth.
Hell I can reasonably snipe from the boat with a sniper rifle or a MG to cover you guys landing then move in when you have the deck covered. If that's the case then I recommend the gas nades going with the boarding crew as There not much good from a distance.
I'm just throwing out ideas to get this going.
Edit:
Had a bit of a discussion with some one with experience in these matters. And the two major vaiable tatics are hail tell the to stop fire a warnign shot/burst from out big guns with the threa the next one will be on target and hope they stop for us and don't call for help. Or we can jamm them board with the smaller craft (we have 2 right?) While some one covers with a big gun from our ship to move in when it ship is secure along with maybe any less front line boarders.
The second plan seams the best but it depends on who is still in and our gear.

I still OOC and Cherry still IC support a strategy of hacking the ship from a distance, gaining complete control of their systems, and then just hijacking the ship. We can then lock all the doors and board at our leisure...or just let the Coast Guard deal with in in UCAS waters.

I wouldn't see the doors all being maglocks or similiar either. I'd assume they'd be bulkhead doors for the most part,
http://www.freemanmarine.com/Doors_Bulkhead.htm while hacking from a distance to shut down their comms will be a necessity I don't think we'll be able to board at our leisure.
What I'd suggest would be a combination of hacking and deception. Setup a ruse to make it look like our ship is in distress. I believe admiralty law would require their ship if the closest to provide aid. Get them in close, jam them, drop the ruse and take action.

Much love to hacking and jamming. I agree with hacking first, but I'm not sold on the ruse. They could well ignore it or another ship could get involved, which would be even worse. Get in on line-of-sight, take control of any systems we can *quietly* and then start jamming and approach with a warning shot. There will probably be a window where the jammer will override the target's signal until we can get a retrans drone aboard or someone hardwires an optical tap (those work great, by the way).

The thing is if jammed the warning shot isn't much use as they can't respond via the martix though we coudl still post a treatenign message Halt you ship and stand on deak then if they don't warnign shot next one will hit you square if that doesn't work board the warning has to be one that makes them scared as I've said we have an assault cannon and a HMG. Even if they don't surender we can board by then we might even have engine control so screw them escaping. Best bet is to cut their engines as we launch the boarding craft keeping the element of surprise. We have no idea on their armaments but assume the worst of Automatics. Some one covering the borading action is almost a must in the situation where armaments are probable. Supressiver fire in both huge auto bursts or aimed fire designed to keep their heads down will help to keep their eye on the shooter and heads in cover will give the boarding time some measure of safety in their most vulnerable moments.
How many boarding craft do we have 2 isn't it? If so then the team should be spilt in to to waves beachhead and follow up. Part of that follow up team would be any one covering the landing plus maybe a hacker/intelligence officer for recording purposes and gaining feather control of the ship. Well also need at least one person capable of piloting on the reserve team.

It's the 2070s. I wouldn't be even a little surprised to see that literally every door was electronically controlled, especially on a slaver (this allows the remote control of slave movement).
Also, I don't see the need for a ruse: Cherry has a pair of Armadillos, and we have a Zodiac. Attack in the middle of the night, having the drones move in to block comms, and board.

Agree with you Min.
Barnyard is pretty sneaky, if he can get to the bridge quickly or another elevated position on the boat with the drum fed AK we would have a pretty good base of fire. Especially if we have someone else providing overwatch with the HMG from the Quicksilver. That could lock down the upper deck pretty damn quick, and then go from there.
As for the boarding its self, Somali style all the way.
