"Give Grandama some sugar!" - God, she's great. I know the companions can't die of radiation overdose, but cleaning out that radioactive ghoul-filled vault (34?) is so much easier with her in melee. And I feel guilty draggin my fellow wastelanders down there. Immune to hard rads, so no guilt.
I just wish she'd use the missile-launcher, heavy flamer, minigun, improved rifles, sharp sticks(Thermal Lance) , Fatman (Oh yes I did.) that I tossed to her.
Vic with Oh Baby or Punchy is
sick. Uppercut!
Explosion! Hammer blow,
EXPLOSION!
Boone didn't want my tricked out rifles, which sorta sucked. I wish I could give them the 400k rounds of lovingly-crafted ammo I made.
The Whiskey Rose is death when given a tricked-out shotgun though, odd. She didn't like the combat shotgun
![frown.gif](http://forums.dumpshock.com/style_emoticons/default/frown.gif)
Arcade will stick with the Plasma Defender, which is ok as it HURTS at close-range. Just stick some Power armour on him that a Brother of Steel doesn't need anymore. The NCR "power armour" is best described as "Frenchware". Avoid.
I liked Rex - he's great if you need to recover more parts of the baddies that met with violent death. Terrible if not on passive though. Note: Rock caches will show up on "Rex-O-Vision", there's quite a few out there!
Raul is...well, broken. He can fix stuff good, but I'd have like the chance to unleash his mighty gunskill on something. Maybe with the Mysterious Revolver (That thing takes HEADS.) if I could bear to pass it along. (.44 hand-loads FTW)
EdE...I wish I could have hooked up a plasma caster to that little trooper. Still, EdE & Boone = non-stop carnage; We ran out of thing to kill before we ran out of ammo.
<Bleep: Music> Zap, Zap, CRACK, "Boone makes a quip" <End combat music>
Note: Cassidy & Grandma Lilly are rather decent in close quarters. Get Cass into some combat armour though as she's pretty soft versus the 8-feet of blue-skinned Schitzo Grandma. "Ohh, I'm going to give you such a smacking!"
This might be due to better perception of both NPCs, or something, as Vici can get lost when running behind you across the flat desert.

I enjoyed Cassidy most. I had a mod running that made shotguns actually handy, so she's very nice in combat. She drinks a lot, which is fun when roleplaying. And she has a swing to her hips you just can't get anywhere else.
I totally wouldn't mind Red though, if she asked.
By the way, for anyone who hasn't read it, this is a hoot:

I did I've been playing on hardcore and hand't been making much use of her because she kept getting seperated from me on indoor maps and dying horribly. (even in power armor, much to my chagrin).
There's two game bugs with Veronica.
A) She doesn't level up with you like the other companions do.
B) She does not get her "essential" flag activated when she's traveling with you. So even in normal mode she can die, instead of just getting knocked unconscious.
If you have the PC version there's a ton of mods out there that will fix the bugs.

Just maxed out Energy Weapons is pretty much broken, because you simply don't need ANYTHING ELSE in combat . .
Secondary Skills high science and lockpick . . You can pretty much ignore Attributes with these skills. And if you have sneak high enough, there is nothing that's going to bother you most of the time.

That Gun is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. We will become part of each other. We will...

I'm still looking for a 12.7mm pistol, the last gun I need to find to complete my collection. Don't have a LMG yet either but I know where to get one.
Once I find one though, I'll have a dilemma. The lever action shottie has been my default gun for a long time but the 12.7mm will out DPS it. Might have to get cowboy then.
Fix-it
Dec 9 2010, 05:07 AM
LMG can be found in the quarry, I think the 12.7 can be bought from the Gun Runners, or maybe a cave somewhere.
nezumi
Dec 9 2010, 03:14 PM
Funny, I picked up the 12.7, realized it wasn't as great as the rifle I was already holding (in general I had completely left pistols behind), and tossed it over my shoulder as I continued on my way.
Admitedly though, it was in pretty rotten condition, and I didn't have anything to repair it and properly examine it. How does it compare to That Gun (my previous favorite)?

http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?s=&a...t&p=1016548On a serious note, I didn't like either when it came to pistols. The .44 revolver fires too slow for what I need it for and I'm not going to pistol snipe, the 10mm is nice with a silencer, the 9mm gets replaced quickly (though Maria works wonders), and the .22 silenced is replaced by my 10mm with the silencer - or just a nice knife.
My sidearm of choice is still the .357 with JSP. Enough stopping power to solve my problems in close quarters, fast enough to reload with Rapid Reload, and the skill-based perks mod gives me that and Cowboy without having to spend my level-purks.
I suppose I could do the 10mm with the handloads, or at least the HP ammo. I'm surrounded by soft targets whenever I use it anyway, and any time I'm not I'm usually toting my heavy duty AP rifles.
nezumi
Dec 9 2010, 03:54 PM
I never realized you could put a silencer on a 10mm (or that it counted as a hold-out weapon). Oh well, too late now. Now I'm mostly alternating between the sniper rifle and anti-materiel rifle, with the light machine gun for any 'tidying up' I need to do. I don't think there are any pistols which can compete, except when I need to sneak something past a guard.

Silenced Sniper Rifle w/ Carbon Fiber Parts for my long-duty, or the Gobi Campaign Rifle if I've capped my lockpicking

Modded Varmint Rifle for sniping soft targets / don't want to waste .308

I'm getting ready for the final battle. I've finished up all of the 'come fight with me' quests. I think my plan is to equip the fat man and the machine grenade launcher gun or Mercy, plus my antimateriel rifle and light machine gun, turn the difficulty up to max, and just make some fireworks.
Worth noting, I've never bothered to increase my explosives skill. I'll read one of the Patriot Cookbooks before I go in, but aside from that, the plan is see how much my video card can take.
Doc Chase
Dec 9 2010, 05:23 PM
I'm replacing my video card, probably today if I've got the time for it. The GX285's don't cool well (or mine doesn't) and it's been locking up my system.
I will at least jack my explosives skill up to about 50-55 so I can pass speech checks that require it, like the slave pen at Cottonwood Cove. I can disarm all three collars with a 50 skill and net me a nice XP bonus before I pick the lock on that toxic waste truck and irradiate the camp.
Afterward I like to think I plant an NCR flag and rename the place "New Searchlight."
nezumi
Dec 9 2010, 05:49 PM
Oh Cottonwood... I killed everyone, then dumped the toxic waste, figuring I'd never come back. Then I get the offer from Ceasar and figure 'hey, I'll go in, find out his offer, get Benny's suit, then kill Caesar and walk away.' As I'm going up to meet Caesar's contact, damn Boone shoots the guy from 400 yards without giving me a head's up, and my last save was half an hour prior. Asshat. So then I'm trudging around in radiation for fifteen minutes, trying to figure out how to go visit the Fortress, hoping that my 'all crimes forgiven' thing still holds out, while I leave Boone in the middle of Cottonwood.
Things turned... messy from there.
Doc Chase
Dec 9 2010, 06:01 PM
Heh. I always swap Boone out for Cassidy or Arcade when Caesar's summons shows up. I'll generally do Novac, get Boone, finish his side-quest, then drop him off at the Lucky 38 and go back to recruiting everyone.
