Man, I want rewards, what can I do to get them?
HeySparky
Jun 13 2007, 06:16 AM
Rewards so far are for contributions to the campaign in the planning stages... the big-ticket items so far have been wiki work, gang creation, NPC and Locale creation, work on backgrounds.
Certainly all of that stuff will be ongoing and BP rewards become karma rewards later, unless I'm off base.
There was a good suggestion above that we make a sheet of GM requests, Vegas or I will be doing that soon (working on the maps just now).
WinterRat1
Jun 13 2007, 06:20 AM
Rewards were/are for people who have contributed to the creation, running, or development of the game.
For example, Sparky and Vegas are the Wiki GMs, the final word on all things wiki-related.
Rob created most of the gang profiles, Adamu has developed numerous NPCs and archetypes complete with stats for the GM, etc.
During the game, as specific needs arise opportunities to earn rewards in the form of karma will be available. Right now there's nothing available because the primary goal is to get ready for game start, but I will keep everyone informed of potential opportunities down the road.

Should I bother to submit a reward request to you if I figure that I've only done enough to get about 2 extra BP?

WinterRat1
Jun 13 2007, 06:19 PM
You're welcome to submit a request to me if you think you've done enough to warrant something. Some people made out like bandits on their rewards, some simply got a nice little bonus.
Obviously rewards are commensurate to the work done to earn them, but at the same time it behooves me to reward small contributions fairly in the hope they'll grow into large ones.
So feel free to send me a request and what you did to earn it, and we'll see if you make the grade.

Trojan vignette added to Oct 31.
It was fine yoip, no worries about the quality. All I was asking for was a recollection of the events from your character's POV. It doesn't have to be great writing, in fact it just reinforces the idea of it being from a character POV if it isn't great writing (unless your character would in fact, be a good communicator). Look at Grack's vignette. Horrendous from an English class standpoint. Fantastic from a Grack standpoint.

re: Combat:
Why is cover giving armor modifiers? Armor is added dice on a damage resistance roll which may or may not help. Cover is a negative modifier to an attacker's roll which automatically reduces the number of hits possible on an attack.
WinterRat1
Jun 13 2007, 08:29 PM
Grendel - Phrased badly.
Cover will be a negative modifier to an attacker's roll, but it also gives a bonus to armor by functioning as a barrier per SR 4 pg. 157. I will modify the Q&A.
WinterRat1
Jun 13 2007, 08:34 PM
Here's the modified version:
Q – How will cover work?
A – If you tell me in your movement action you are moving towards cover and make it there, any attacks against you after you have made it to cover will receive a negative modifier on their attack roll. Additionally, the cover will function as a barrier, granting you extra armor for any soak rolls. The negative attack modifier and amount of armor depends on the cover, so a metal telephone pole will grant higher armor than an overturned wood table because of the material, but less of a negative attack modifier because of the area covered.

combat question
-So if our character is getting shot at or attacked by something he didnt plan on the time to declare full defense as an interrupt would be after the resolutions ooc has been made just like if you were going to use edge to try and get out of something?
full defense interrupts are probably going to happen ALOT. Maybe we should put those in the action phase?
-What about conditional or other trigger actions? Like if Graak bites the ear off the guy i was going to shoot and the guy goes down can i set up my actions so my guy changes targets even if he doesnt know how much damage the guy with one ear has ?
Konsaki
Jun 13 2007, 08:51 PM
You always have a day or two to read what everyone else is doing in the combat turn. This is your chance to throw in an inturrupt by changing your actions on the combat page.
As for all the conditional triggers, these would take forever and a day to work through. To keep the pace of the game going, we have to sacrafice alot of the stuff that you could do in a real life game which would just bog down a forum game to a grinding halt.
A huge combat of 20 people, which is not even the max which could happen by the way, if done one person at a time could take a month to complete one combat turn. That is unacceptable and could very well lead to the game's death.
You always have the Edge roll for any huge damaging rolls, if you have the edge. You did buy enough edge and didnt use it as a dump stat, right?

I wanted to post a little thing from Jaya but am having a heck of a time with my Internet Explorer, I was aiming for Oct 31 after Ink's post regarding the end of the Corsairs, could one of the wiki-gods do this for me?
[ Spoiler ]
<<<<<I have no idea how the hell I survived this shit storm, most of the my crew didn't and those that did ran. I ain't going to run, what's the point? Anywhere you go there's always going to be another crew working the area, and they aren't going to just welcome some new kid with open arms either. So me and Bender and Bezo and most of the crew decided to hang tough, defend our turf and see what happened. I can tell you what happened, the whole fucking sky fell in on us and squished us fucking flat.
Me and Bender and his brother FhrEek, and Bezo were all hanging out at old man Corbin's mini-mart on 124th Ave NE near the Copman Apartment house where Bender and FhrEek crashed, when the world came to an end. We'd just spent the last two weeks fighting and running and fighting some more and then running and occassionally hiding before running some more, you get the idea, and had about decided that Corsairs turf was a lost cause. The LoCoS fuckers had pretty well moved south of 140th and the Black Plague freaks were kinda wandering all over the place, pissing all over some of my best markings. We'd fought like Cappy'd taught us to fight, all out, mean, lethal, but instead of backing down from a killing fight it was like everyone just upped the ante. I've fired more rounds in anger over the last two weeks that I've spent at the firing range the entire rest of my life, and I never figured to use a gun much, this is fucking insane!!
Where was I? Oh ya, Bender and us guys at the QuikMart getting drinks and talking and shit. We were out front near the busted up telecom, I'd painted that bad boy up to look like a bloody handed pirate Ork, and I loved just looking at it, when a group of Black Plague guys rolled up in the back of a POS Willy-Gaz beater truck. There were six of them and four of us, so I kinda figured the odds weren't too bad, shit compared to what it'd been like over the last few day 6-to-4 was a cake walk, even if the 6 were all Orks and a Troll. Bender fronted them, he'd been Cappy's 1st Mate and he was the biggest nastiest looking guy in our crew, since he was an Ork maybe they'd respect that more. The rest of us kind moved around Bender, only I figured I'd square up off to one side so's they couldn't all look the same way at one time, so I slid off to the north side near that telecom and waited to see what was going to happen. Apparently Bender knew that Troll cause he puffed up like a two day old corpse in July and went right after him.
"Youse fraggers are wandering off your turf, Orrick, whazzamatter, they kick your ass out of PlagueLand fer bein' too ugly?"
The ugly mountain of Troll grins, and squares up to Bender.
"We done wit yer ass Bender, this is all Plague territory now, you gotta go."
"Since when fuck nut? Last I checked I'm a Corsair and since this is where I'm standing this is Corsair turf." Bender was never going to be a rocket scientist but the fucker had no fear cause he didn't back down an inch. We all could feel the tension in the air, and knew this was going to be nasty, but he wasn't going to give an inch.
Here's where things got weird, I mean, I've been running with Cappy for almost two years now, and I've seen how these situations go. First there's the insulting each other, then comes the threats, then comes the challenges some minor pushing, and then comes the fighting. Up until this last couple of days I'd have said the fighting consisted of punching kicking and maybe a blade or two but fuck, seems like everyone was bringing some kinda weapon to the party including guns. Only thing was here, apparently these goons hadn't taken the Gang Fighting 101 class offered as a basic requirement cause right after Bender opens his yap this big fragger goes and plants his big old size 38 CAT boot right in Bender's nuts and all hell breaks loose.
Of course my crew piles into the Plague Rats, I mean that's whatcha gotta do right? I step inside on the big Ork brother facing me, slipping his looping-ass punch on the way in and drop the fucker on his ass with a simple besset lupar or outside sweep. He gets a taste of my steel-toed combat boot right in the teeth on the way by and I'm facing off with his friend who looks a little surprised to find me standing still from the look on his face. The guy reeks of novacoke so bad it's coming out of his pores so I can smell him from here, and he's holding a big ol' fire axe like he's thinking he's Paul fucking-Bunyon or some shit. He's and Ork so he out weighs me by about 20 kilos and it looks like a bunch of that is muscle so I didn't take to the idea of him swinging that thing at me, you know. So like, when he pulls it back to get to chopping I take a page from his friend's book and boot him in the Orky jewels about as hard as I can. He folds like a cheap card table, clutching at his nads like he can pull 'em back down bare handed, which gives me the perfect angle to drop an elbow strike at the base of his neck. He kisses asphault face first so I knew he was done and right bout here I'm feeling pretty good, I mean what the hell it seems like we're winning right?
I looked over at Bender and FhrEek, who'd back up to the plexiglass windows on the QuikMart to keep the Plague bastards off their backs, they were circled by four of the metas, Bezo was lying in a heap still in the middle of the lot. Despite that I'd thought we were winning, I mean, with me and Bender and FhrEek against four of them, that's good right? Then that nasty ass Troll up and pulls a glass bottle with a rag in the neck from his jacket, flicks his Bick, and smashes it against the building at Bender's feet!
What the fuck is that!?! I mean, we've been involved in a couple of drive-bys and a bunch of fist fights and shit but setting someone on fire to win a little tussle? What the fuck? I don't know what that sonabitch had in that bottle but oh shit did it burn. The smell was horrible, and FhrEek started screaming, all high pitched and wailing like a little girl or something. I could see the building catch fire and the paint on the telecom go up, and then Bender comes off that wall with his big knife in one hand roaring like a bullet train. I don't even remember pulling my guns, I just had my little Colt L36 in my left hand and Cappy's Manhunter in the other and was pulling the triggers as fast as I could. Suddenlike everyone was shooting, except Bender and the Troll who were rolling around on the ground burning and stabbing each other, and I felt a couple of hits on my jacket.
There were still a bunch of them and only one of me left, so I hauled ass, tossing bullets back towards the inferno that used to be the QuikMart and running north along 124th Ave NE.
That's it mano, you're the last Corsair standing. Now what are you going to do?
That's all I can think of now, having spent the last forty minutes ducking through the alleys and hiding in dumpsters, climbing a couple of fire escapes, basically running my ass off, that I'm the only Corsair left standing. Half the crew drifted away when Cappy died, without Bender we ain't got a leader anymore, and I ain't got a home. I know I'm kinda shocky, I got a cold sweat going, and everything's kinda fuzzy around the edges, sometimes it's like my sense of smell goes all weird again cause all I can smell is the scent of roasting Ork for a few ticks, but I know I gotta keep moving. I gotta figure out what I'm going to do now, cause I can feel it right down in the pit of my stomach, that I'm alone again.

Firefox, opera, safari(?), slim browser > internet explorer.
The only reason to keep IE installed is because some sites tailor their code to work with IE's non standard way of doing things and that messes up all the other browsers.

But being a fanboy isn't any fun if you admit your favorite software is flawed. Besides, going from anti apple and anti dell to apple being ok and dell has ok monitors requires me to step up my favoritism on other things.
Seriously though, keep a couple browsers installed. If something is funky or doesn't work in one try another. If something doesn't work in firefox there might be an extention that makes it work. I don't know if IE has something like that and I forget if opera does.
This makes me wonder. What are software wars like in 2070? Does renraku make anything other than so-so commlinks or do they sink all their money into convincing people theirs is better than an Erika Elite with Mangadyne Deva by hireing an elf and a troll to represent the two?

Hey wiki people there are some kool new things you can do on wiki spaces, check em out.
https://www.wikispaces.com/changesI think the best thing is the TEMPLATES!! We were just talking about being able to do this a couple of days ago when I made Beast Jr's pages and now its possable. Character pages will be super easy now. Think about having a template for our turf map! Changing the boundaries will now be super easy or something. Or making changes to the location map.
The variable thing looks like it could be useful to for nerdy reasons. No more stepping on each others toes by editing over each other. Now if two people are trying to edit or look at a page they will know..
I also posted this in the general discussion board if you wanna talk about this stuff over there.

Abbandon - Whoa whoa whoa. Before you do ANYTHING drastic to the wiki, talk to the wiki GMs FIRST. I do NOT want any unforeseen wiki disasters at this stage of the game. New features are cool and all, but they can also cause problems if not implemented carefully.
The Wiki GMs have a well established process for how they do things, including the maps, and before anyone messes around with that process, they should definitely work with the GMs to get permission to make those changes.

@WR I havent did anything to our wiki's and i never would do anything drastic to them. Adding some character sheets for a character was like the most major thing i have done and thats just copy pasting.
My previous post was about things wiki.com has implemented on ALL wiki's. I suggested some ways we could use the new features but thats it. If anything drastic or complex needs to happen I let the people who made the wiki do it.
So dont worry. Although I would LOVE to whip up those character sheet templates its pretty pointless now since recruitment is all but over and I dont wanna take away the fun of Vegas or ES Sparky in creating them.

Training time
Ok if trying to raise two or more things whether they are attributes or skills is my total hours per day capped at 4+ or do i get 4 hours a day per thing ? For example:
Im raising Strength from 5 to 6 and pistols from 1 to 2. Would I have to divide my 4+ hours a day between them or would i get 8+ hours(4+ each) ??
Character interaction
If we have a mechanism in place for character death how come we cant get personal, I can only imagine it balancing out personalities. Its like a PK guild of an mmorpg. If someone is being a pain in the ass we kill them and then that person either plays their next character differently or they risk wasting their time again by making another character who is just going to get killed.
Now if someone is a pain in the ass we cant touch them and its just going to act like a cancer growing bigger and enveloping more people until the whole game dies. I know you will say that the GM's will take care of the pain in the ass before the players have to but..that is in conflict with wanting alot of people to play the game. How are you gonna crack down on people and risk losing them.

Read all the rules.
Have to say I agree with Abbandon on the interaction restrictions. BUT - the GMs made it quite clear they know it's not realistic, and they have made that choice for campaign management purposes, so I will support that 100%.
It will be a very thin line, however, considering the encouragement of the "casual" hostility - hard to draw that distinction....
But at least I don't have to be losing sleep over someone killing Grack cuz he stinks so bad!!!
So - I have a few questions on the training thing.
Most important to me personally -
the way I envision this after reading the rules, and please correct me if I'm mistaken, is that provided we "pay the hours" in game terms, we will be free to fluff exactly how those hours are spent any way we want IC? As in, we can describe a training regimen that would fit our character's personality, as long as we don't use those "paid hours" in any other "in-game" productive way??
Can we start training for things before we have the karma (naturally only gaining the benefit of the training once the karma price is paid)?
Similar to Abbandon's question, but also different, can we stagger our training? As in, can we train for one thing one day, then train for a different thing another day, and back and forth? Ideal for characters with short attention spans.
Corollary to that question - is the training something that if, like, we finish half and then take a week off for whatever reason, we can resume later without penalty? With penalty?
Is there any possibility of "training time credit" if we are improving things that have seen heavy IC use? Like, character in three actual firefights recently, then chooses to raise Firearms group - any credit there? Actual experience trumps dry runs any day....

Character Interaction
I joined a GTSNBM (game that shall not be mentioned) a few weeks ago and one of the players was kicked a couple weeks ago (they were in it for a couple months before me) due in part to pvp. There was some serious stepping on personality toes and generating whatever facts about the world that they wanted too but the pvp is what actually instigated the kick. That player had already retired one pc to villain status and now his second pc is going to be a thorn in our side. If they weren't kicked we were going to lose someone we actually enjoyed having around.
That said I'm in favor of banning serious pvp. However if a player is getting out of line something will need to be done. Either GMs talking to the player or another player asking a GM to ok beating the crap out of the other guy's character, and if it comes to that a fair fight is a luxury.
Training
This is probably the one house rule that really needs an example as it is the most mechanical. Could you toss a couple out there?

Jun 14 2007, 05:13 PM
Personally, I am in favour of fairly serious PvP as long as it is appropriate to the setting and backed-up by good roleplaying and logical actions. That said, it has the potential to be quite a contentious issue and I can understand why the GMs have currently chosen to specifically disallow it.
I can say, though, that I would have no problems with, and probably greatly enjoy having Doc die at the hands of another PC if it was the last step in an escalating and logical conflict. If Doc says something to annoy Bockscar once, and Bockscar pulls out a grenade launcher and blows him away, then that would annoy me. However, if Bockscar and Doc have been trading insults for a period of weeks, and then it escalates into fistfights and eventually into a bloody, guns-drawn standoff which results in the death of one of the two characters, I would have no problem with the character death happening to Doc. That's just my two cents, though, but I think that it could add a good level of realism to a game that's supposed to be all about brutal violence.
