Not too long, but long enough to give Glo a chance to join, so we can get the team together formally.

Oh and I should mention: Sam Whats is one of my contacts, so if some Yaks start massing in front of the bar, she'd give him a warning and made sure we could get out through the cellar.

Thanks to distinctive style it's really no big problem to find John - the problems begin once you found him cool.gif
Mercy
I understand about Sam and yes, she will alert you to any sudden appearance of Yak or Triad soldiers in the street outside.

I also think that you will have plenty of undisturbed talk time as it will take Ai a while to find you, unless you spend a few hours there. Her contacts are not superhuman.
Aria
Will try and catch up soon...sorry, work's a *&%$$!!!!!
mister__joshua
@Mercy: It wasn't my intention for Jan to ever enter the casino, but your IC post described him going in so I just went with it and went outside again. Now though it appears he's on camera. Might not matter. Might only be a matter of time before he's 'known' anyway, but in case it makes a difference I wanted to point it out wink.gif

@All: Jan's a bit pissed off nyahnyah.gif
Mercy
Ooops. Sorry. I had thought your post indicated he had wanted to go back inside. I can edit that part, in which case you would not have appeared on the cameras, or at least not as any sort of person of interest.

OK, you have been removed from the camera and Ai has not noticed you.

I'd be pissed too.

Heck, I think it's a miracle people don't spend more time pissed at Al!
Aria
It's his inadvertent charm! Certainly not his personal hygiene!
Jack_Spade
I early on decided that all my characters find Al fascinating - and they all value loyalty more than appearances, so Al can pretty much do as he likes as long as he stays true to his totem wink.gif
mister__joshua
I too find Al fascinating.

Most fascinating is the fact that he's still alive. Remarkable considering his lack of self preservation nyahnyah.gif
adamu
Chalk it up to a healthy diet and clean living.
Mercy
Everyone in the building should have been spluttering or laughing their drinks through their noses at that comment. I am surprised that Al even knows how to spell clean living and healthy diet.
Mercy
Can someone give me a rundown on what happened at the casino?

You can check it out in the Looking Glass game thread if you want more info, and Aria or Adamu could both explain it better than me, but.....

Basically as part of Looking Glass we had to be 'bait' for an attack. Le Fey (I believe) was the bait. We were trying to draw out our hunters so we knew who they were. We were staying at the casino as it was public, comfortable, and we wanted to be easy to find.

We expected a small team but instead faced a full-on assault by some 88s triad, and me and Al killed a bunch of them while escaping. I think they were only contracted for the job rather than being the source of our opposition. But after they lost a dozen or so soldiers we heard through Silk that they'd put a hit on us so we laid low for a while.

Until Jan got bored of that and decided to contact Al about 'sorting out their situation' nyahnyah.gif
Aria
For reference the 88s were contracted (or coerced perhaps) by a Dissonant TM called Winter (nobody knows if male or female even after a meeting in the flesh) who has been a long standing nemesis in my games with a penchant for violence!
adamu
Sorry about the no colour post - tapping on the phone here. Will go back and format properly tonight.

If you are all up for it, I'll take over GMing for the confrontation with the Triads smile.gif

Haha. That was a sudden change of pace! nyahnyah.gif

Can't let you guys get shitfaced when there is action to be had cool.gif

Sounds great - just tell me when we transition from storytelling to dice-rolling...

If you're GMing, then important point to note is that, this hardly being the Barrens, Al's weapons are in his truck.

And his truck is parked...somewhere...drove it here but never specified where he parked. Also have no idea whether the Triads know it or not....

EDIT - okay, posted going into the construction site.

1) Jack - lots of questions about specifics of what I find there (big hole? skeletal multi-story structure? trailers, temporary buildings? guard dogs? tools? power tools? exits?).
Happy to save you work and make stuff up myself, but if you're GMing thought I'd give you first shot, since I might not be super impartial...

2) Players - do we want to use this (deserted???) construction site as a nice little 'no-bystanders' battleground to kill some bad guys? Yeah, Al will want to. But tactically, we don't even know if these guys have anything we want - fighting is a losing proposition all around - we should try to get away, make any fights we have be on our own terms....what say ye?

3) Jack - you're being kind enough to GM this scene - have you a preference on the above - happy to play along with whatever you might have...

4) Jack - yeah, my truck - are you going to decide where it is in relation to the construction site? Or I can (but it will happen to be parked several blocks from the bar, and conveniently close to one of the construction site exits.....)
Mercy
Please consider that Tanya has assets that can help. There are several drones at various parts of the building, including two inside. Tanya owns three of them and her rigger friend owns three more. At least two of the six were covering different views of the front and the two more the alleyway and two were inside the bar. She can also call on a hacker ally that helped find you guys here and is standing by to help her if she can.

Just letting you know that this should not be an intel vacuum and that there should have been some warning. Even if for some really strange reason, all the drones were taken out, that would have been a warning in itself. Can you please factor some of this into your planning and actions as the GM?
Jack_Spade
@Mercy
Noted, although that multitude of drones might very well be why Sam noticed them first: She only has to check one camera while Tanya and her Overwatch are looking at dozens of them.

@adamu

1) It's a large construction site with almost all phases of construction present. We are emerging at a part where raw concrete walls and bare steel frames are the dominating theme. A bit further you have an excavation with lots of heavy machines. In the other direction there is a half finished office building. Lots and lots of badly secured tools lying around...

2 and 3) From my point we can use it for a bit of Hide and Seek - or for some gory, kill Yaks with nail gun fun. John is armed, so he sees no reason not to have some fun.

4) I'd say make a simple Edge Roll. One success is enough for you to have parked it at the most opportune position. The construction site is huge and has three exits (all closed with chains and locks as well as a tall, obscuring fence, made of fiberplast-boards (Armor 6 Body 4), so it's not particularly hard to get out.
There are a lot of tool sheds around - as well as some construction in their charging cabins.
Jack_Spade
You all have the equivalent of a combat round to prepare before Triad thugs begin to pour over the wall into the construction site.

Environmental Modifiers are as follows:
Light Rain (-1) (Thermovision reduces this to 0)
Dim Light (-3) (Low-Light vision ignores that)
Light Winds (-1) (Smartlink reduces this to 0)

There are 10 R4 Triads (core p.383) around. Those guys only have one condition monitor track, so stun and physical damage are recorded on one track.

Their attack dice pool is 10, Ini 8+1d6, Perception test with 6, Soak pool 13 (Armor 9),
Machine Pistol (Acc 5, DV 6P, AP —, SA/BF, RC (1), 35 ©], Knife [Blade, Acc 5, Reach —, DV 5P, AP –1]

The whole construction site is 70x50 m² with our guys starting right in the middle of the 70m side

The runner team will join in later.
Mercy
Is the wall stone or wood?
Jack_Spade
The wall behind you is brick. The wall surrounding the construction side towards the street is made of fiberplast boards
Mercy
Tanya has both Radar and Ultrasound sensors. Would these negate any of the environmental mods?

Tanya Initiative: Initiative: 3d6+16 31 4IP
Jack_Spade
Jupp, with the rain she'll only have -1 on her Ultrasound and none on Radar - as long as no one appears with a jammer...
Mercy
LOL Jammers are always an issue, yes. Still need to account for wind and the whip apparently cannot come with a smartlink. Sad. Now just waiting to see who comes over the wall first.

Tanya will try to get pictures of the men after the fight so she can have her guys tell her which lieutenant sent them. Unless you a real need to screw with Tanya, please limit the attackers to either Rick Wu or the two lieutenants that are closest to him. If you do want to mess with her, well, she will just have to adapt.
Jack_Spade
Since I lack the necessary background knowledge, I'll leave the aftermath in your hands to adjudicate who the attackers were (besides the runners - for those I have plans, provided they survive)

I'll wait for the others to post their reactions before I start the action, but here's the Ini for the first batch

Ini 5 triads: 5#8+1d6 11 9 10 9 11
Logically, the two with 11 ini will appear first.

Okay, first the requested Edge roll to determine truck placement.
Edge for car placement: 8d6t5 1
That's the threshold you set, so truck is enough away from the bar they may not have connected it, but close to a construction site exit, on the other side of the block from the bar.
So if we start in the middle of a 70m span, that puts my truck outside the fence and about 35m away.

Next, you said we had one combat turn before they come over.
Al's initiative for that prep turn is 32 (sorry, still can't figure out how to make Orokos do my initiative roll).
So that's four actions to get ready.

Movement - Run 20m towards truck.

First two passes - Perception for a nice handy length of steel pipe to use as a Club
Perception minus light rain to find pipe x2: 2#10d6t5 5 3
Looks like I find a suitable one.

Third pass, Pick Up Club, Ready Club

Fourth pass, use Sneaking to hide in a good ambush spot (complex) with centering (free) to get rid of the running penalty to that action.
Hiding in ambush: 11d6t5 3
Since these guys have no vision mods, their perception pools in these conditions are two dice, so I think I'm pretty much invisible until I jump them.

That's my prep round, Jack.
Was a bit unclear from your posts if you are going to actively run the triad thugs, or if you wanted us to do the Aria thing and sort of run them ourselves per your parameters.

Of the ten coming in first, I was thinking of resolving my ambush against, say, three that come past my position in their search for us. And of course then awaiting your approval of my resolution before I ICed the result...
Let me know if you want me to do that.

If you want to be more hands on - here are the first couple of relevant rolls you'll need for the same scenario (i.e. three of them come prowling past me)

Their perception - no chance.
My surprise test: surprise test in ambush: 23d6t5 9
So pretty much assuming they are all totally surprised.

My Initiative 34

Each pass will be Free action Center away Penalties (up to cool.gif, Free action Call Shot to Vitals, Complex Action Melee attack.

I'll take the +2 for superior position for the first guy (attacking from behind). Reach is 1, against those that get a chance to defend. Base DV will be 11P (incl. Critical Strike), Accuracy is 5 (incl. Enhanced Acc)

First attack at Triad guy's back: 13d6t5 7
2nd, 3rd, 4th attacks on Triad guys: 3#11d6t5 3 3 2

Assume before it's over some my shoot at me. Assuming they are using Burst Fire, I'll subtract from my defense pool.
Of course chop results off the end of the string if I end up dodging multiple attacks in one go.
Can't imagine them getting more than four shots off total, but if they do, then roll for me - adjusted pool is 18 dice.
Four defense rolls against burst fire on first turn of ambush: 18d6t5 6
second def: 18d6t5 6
3rd def: 18d6t5 9
4th def: 18d6t5 6

Let me know if there's anything else you need, or anything I can do for you.
Mercy
IU can do similar rolls, but Tanya is not hiding. She is standing against the wall in the rain just off to the side where the first guys will come over said wall. Being still, she will be almost invisible unless they have any sort of vision aids. I guess the first three of them go off to where Al is hiding and then she waits for two more to come over.

Am I good to roll some dice?
Mercy
Some rolls for Tanya attacking.

Standing in the darkness in the rain: Sneak: 13d6t5 4
Thug seeing Tanya: Pool is only 2 so they cannot see her.

IP1 Tanya init 31, Thugs 4 & 5 init 9

Against Thug 4
Tanya Whip Attack: 20d6 - Env 1 = 19 Whip Attack: 19d6t5 10 Wow. Her limit is 6, so six hits.
Thug Dodge: 6d6 - Reach 2 = 4 Dodge: 4d6t5 0
Thug Soak: Soak: 5d6t5 0
Thug takes DV 12 + Net Hits 6 - Soak 0 = 18

Thug 5
Fire at Tanya. Burst Fire DEf -2 Shoot: 6d6t5 2
Tanya Dodge: Dodge: 15d6t5 5
Dodge is successful

IP2 Tanya init 21, Thug init 0

Against Thug 5
Tanya Whip Attack: Whip Attack: 19d6t5 4
Thug Dodge: Dodge: 4d6t5 2
Thug Soak: Soak: 5d6t5 4
Thug takes DV12 + Net Hits 2 - Soak 4 =10

I hope that I did these rolls correctly.

Still have IP3 and 4 to act.
Mercy
And Al has a good point. I think it is very wrong to assume Tanya knows your tac frequency and I will edit the references out of those posts. Adamu will need to edit his last post as well to remove the references that she said anything to everyone. Sorry.
Jack_Spade
@adamu

You understood that alright, I provide the framework, you provide the action for your characters wink.gif

So, what does John?
Ini: 14+5d6 30
Prep round: John speeds off towards his car and jumps the fence with his 5G movement, retrieves his rifle, helmet and mask, readies his rifle and uses the remaining movement to get back to the construction site.

After the first five are slaughtered there is a short pause of maybe 6 seconds (2 Rounds)

Tanya (and Jan if he chooses to stay around) can make a perception check (visual) with a Threshold of 5 to detect the Dragonfly hovering 20m above the entrance
Mercy
Tanya perception: Perception: 8d6t5 4 Close but not close enough.

Not sure if you mean the entrance to the bar or to the construction yard?
Jack_Spade
Construction site. Tanya could have a feeling that someone's looking at her, but can't pinpoint the source.
Mercy
Now I feel dumb. I rolled Tanya's perception just from her skill level and did not add in the stat. Perception: 7d6t5 3

That would give her a roll of 7, which should be good enough. Sorry about that.
mister__joshua
Wow, that moved on quickly after the downtime! I'll try and catch up tomorrow.
mister__joshua
I was going to start shooting as soon as someone crested the wall, but I think we've moved past that now.

Cool - I'll be able to do the resolution on my ambush of the three tomorrow night.
Mercy
Sorry, I should have waited. There are five more and I will be more patient and let you take them on.

Yeah, hard to coordinate all the narratives.

I thought there was a pretty good chance these first five might not make it past the wall.

I grabbed three based on the total of ten (five right behind us, another five coming in from somewhere else) that Jack said were coming in ahead of the runner team.

I tried to leave it open in my posts that the three could be from the first group or the second - and avoided ICing actually meeting them yet until I could confirm with GM other players that there would indeed be three loose to come my way.

Anyway, looks like two are down, and if I have three, then there are still five for John and Jan...guess it's just sort of a question of which victims come in from which direction and getting our narratives to sync up.

If nothing further is clarified by tomorrow night when I resolve, I'll still do it without specifying which direction my three came from, so it will be flexible how John and Jan want to hit theirs.

Anyway, reckon we should get these pawns out of the way quick, because I think we can all agree that runner team is the real threat (though, conversely, they might know less than the Triad grunts).
Mercy
I have a better idea. I will edit my post since I took two combat rounds to kill the two thugs. I will edit out killing the second one, which will give Jan or John the opportunity to kill him. Again, I am sorry that I took two moves in a row.
Jack_Spade
Yeah you can assume that once the first five are slaughtered, the other five will be a bit more careful - and use flashlight apps wink.gif
Mercy
Agree. And I have done the edit. There is still a guy near the wall close to where Tanya is standing.
mister__joshua
As we're 'assuming' slaughter, I'll open fire on a few but not bother with rolls unless you want me to? I didn't mind Tanya's post taking out the 2 guards tbh. I was thinking of shooting as soon as they crested the wall, to give the others something to think about. I have an MP so could full-auto (I think I can full auto with an Ares Crusader 2? I don't have the stats in my char sheet, and don't have a book with me) the first 3 guards, then the 3 Al ambushes can be from the second group?
Jack_Spade
A roll would be nice, just to see what's going on (Not to mention funny glitches wink.gif )

Ares Crusader II has Acc 5(7), 7P SA/BF, RC 2, 40 ammo
mister__joshua
Ok, now here's a question. How do I play this game? nyahnyah.gif

Honestly, it's been so long since I've rolled any dice I've mostly forgotten the rules.....

If I go for 2 short narrow bursts, one at each of the first 2 guys, I believe I'm looking at Agility+Automatics for the first one with no modifiers other than the rain (-1?) and the second one will be at -4 (rain + 3 more shots). Is that it? Is there a penalty for switching target?

Man I'm such a noob biggrin.gif
Jack_Spade
No Problem:

AGI+Skill as base.
If you want to attack more than one target you take the multiple attack free action in addition to a complex attack action.
You split your dice pool equally between the number of targets and roll separately for each.
You can shoot up to 6 bullets with Burst Fire. Assuming you have a base of 12 and RC 4, you lose two dice (10) leaving you five per target (if you shoot two guys). Since you fire three bullets at each target they both get -2 to their defense test (every bullet beyond the first reduces dodge by one)

adamu
RL kicking my ass - will get my resolution up just as soon as I can!
