Well ok... through out the night and the whole morning I'll be scanning radio frequencies and if I hear anything besides fuzz I'll try to establish communications.
I leave my shot gun and all its ammo in my apartment with Kirstin my wife I loaded it with flechetti rounds and set the choke on 2 before giving it to her (she is too shoot anyone but me or Mike coming through the door). I also take out the grenades and grappling gear from their respective pouches, freeing up some cargo room to carry anything useful I might find.
Gear carried: Security armor and helmet, riot shield, pistol in holster, knife, extendable baton, 2 sets of plastisteel restraints on belt, Combat vest, 1 pistol pouch(2 full spare clips for Pred III), 6 empty shotgun pouchs (can hold 120 shells), 1 large equipment pouch, 2 small equipment pouches.
I lock the door to my apartment after I leave!
Ok ready to Leave when ES_Sparky says!

As for Radio messages, every band is over-ridden by the army, warning people not to leave the quarantine area in a nicely recorded manner which loops indefinitely. You'll need some sort of scrambler/booster/something to even use any waves in the city for awhile.

The comlink (rating 5) says I can lock out channels so i guess ill make all 10 channels available through it locking out the military hotmike jamming. I still use the radio (rating 8 ) to monitor its 16 channels... all clutter.
Ill name all my locked out channels Secure 1-10 and my radio would have a flux of 3 (half its rating 4 -1 for urban enviornment) for a range of 4 KM.
Secure 1 = mikes pub radio normal coms
Secure 2= mikes pub radio code red (in case I think we need to change if bad guys are listening)
Secure 3= House line to my wife
Secure 4= House line to my wife code red
Secure 5= clear channel (for anybody in recon parties to use)
secure 6= clear channel code red(for anybody in recon parties to use)
Secure 7= monitoring channel
Secure 8= monitoring channel
Secure 9= monitoring channel
Secure 10= dedicated to trying to contact nursing home.
So thats 3 channels that I can listen to any incoming radio channels within 4 km of my position that will now be free of military clutter (at least to me)
Also what am I getting on the battle tac uplink, looking to specificaly get the boundaries they have set up. And what the hell they are fighting.

Ok Locke and Joe will be asigned to secure channel 5! You only get one channel with a tranciever so thats it for the helmets. If you got radios I let you in to secure channel 1 also.
Mike I give secure channels 1 and 2 too and also 5 and 7. Since his comlink can support 4 channels. That gives him 2 channels to talk to me 1 channel to talk to anyone on channel 5 and 7 as a clear searching channel. Just remember if your farther away than 4km from me it turns back to military fuzz. God I think this is gonna give Nick a headache.. or brain cancer...

A 4th its starting to look like we might make it back
!!!
Things we should work on OC for a bit.
1)A list of supplies we need. -obviously (food, guns, ammo, armor, electronics, medical supplies) but other things too i.e. electronics cable, sheet metal, chicken wire, duct tape, clothes, fuel, portable generators, things to make demolitions out of, construction materials.... anyone else think of something
2) A layout of stores and buildings on this block, i.e anything worth scavenging and who the hell our neighbors our.
3) Any charecter who has Direct family members still unaccounted for.
4) Any charecter's contacts that could provide helpful, & want to come
5)A defense plan for the block
6)A defense plan for the pub complex
7)A governent system
8 )A logistics set up of how many people are here and how much food and supplies we have to feed them, and how much we need to get per week or month.

Jun 2 2005, 06:19 AM
Nice lists Reign! I nominated you IC because of your OOC togetherness. I know Nick doesn't like the boss stuff, but I think he's pretty well suited to it, despite that.
Eric too. Cool headed. Not sure about the rest of you yet.
Here's what we need to decide and quick. Because, as it stands, in a couple of hours, since we didn't pick a course of action - Sphynx will advance the game and we will be sitting around twiddling our thumbs.
Tell you what. Since my IC post (already posted) is probably one of the last posts before he posts I'm gonna edit it to take us out into the street - but we need to be thinking here of who's calling the shots in combat - NOT IT - and what happens to folks if they don't listen (kicked out of Mike's, smacked on the head).
I nominate Reign for OOC command coordination because he seems to have a good grasp and drive to find what the team is good at (with kibitzing by the rest of us, of course) and Frater/Eric for IC command - executing what we decide OOC.
And now off to edit my post...

K I'll lead this combat team out but we are gonna keep it short and sweet.. to the nursing home then to gnats family if we are still a functioning non hurt team we will scavange on the way back. I got 250 mp to store camera footage on so that should be a good primer for the next squad out.... I think we should try to alternate combat positions.. me this time Locke next time. Nine is probabley gonna have to scout on the first few runs ... you know what you need electronicly and i think that should be as high a priority as weapons ammo and food... After you get that youll have to design and build a security sysem for at least the pub if not the block.
The 4 not going on this run start IC discussion of those topics I listed. And limit your movement to only this block... He has given us a hint its clear so far lets keep it that way. Start training everyone in firearms... not the shooting yet well wait to see how much ammo we got but they can start learning how to load the firearms we do have, how to turn safeties on and off.

Ah, the joys of everyone posting at the same time. Looks like we are overlapping a bit. I didn't think anyone else would be at this time of night. Oh well... the joys of fourm games.
Yah, I am good with what has been said. But I do think we should plan things out a bit more carefully and not rush decissions until everyone has had time to post. We have a big group here and it is not fair to move things along in any way until everyone has had time to post their two cents.
This isn't a race is it? has Sphynx said that he would move things along for us if we don't? It's a game, a group game, and it's not fair in my opinion to dictate what is going on when not everyone is around (or until they give the ok to do so in the future).
As long as the story is progressing, wether through dialogue or action, it should be all good.
I mean an IC conversation about what our plans our might take two days IRL to work out, but only 2 minutes in IC.
I mean we have already seen miss posts, people showing up (although the original post said we were all here already...) and a lot of people covering the same ground. Wouldn't it work out better if we wait and let everyone catch up and have a say?
Reign Maker
Jun 2 2005, 06:57 AM
well yes and no... Sparky has played under him before and from what she has said and a few others he likes it fast and rough.... If you don't keep up your gone. So start setting up the recon of the block which is what I wanted you to do.. OC and well you and ES kinda beat me too it IC. But since we would have left 2 days ago by ourselfs.... the posting by others is slowing us down. Im trying to wait for other to catch up I been making lists.
Ok well anyway time to read what you wrote and modify my post some more!
And no I dont think your pub is gonna have enough room... but then again I bet there are already flesh form spirits in the pub a day or two and it will be almost empty again....hence taking the whole block and forming a government.
As for the 4 man team im leading we walking till we get there if I notice something Ill try to get the group hidden rather than engage if possiable. Heading in the most direct route I can plot with Nines map downloaded to my oreintation system.
If I do notie a large vehicle (a bus or passanger van) ill take a closer look.

Jun 2 2005, 07:14 AM
Hey, I know what you are saying and I agree. I can post a few times a day if necessary to keep up, but when Sphynx started the game all he asked for was ONE post a day. If the others are sticking to that, becaue of work, intrest, life, etc.. they shouldn't be penalized for make the required one posting. They also shouldn't be left out of the story or decission making (at least until Sphynx makes a call about the situation and lets us know what this game will be like.)
I just don't like the idea of three of us making multiple posts OOC and IC at 1am in the morning that effects the storyline and the other characters. Talking discussing, planning, sure that's fun and fine. But actually taking action, picking a leader and heading out to the streets... That's not cool nor fair to everyone else.
Sphynx
Jun 2 2005, 08:25 AM
FYI, Mallet, I didn't ignore your post, but to keep a game going I go by general consensus. If a majority of the people are saying one thing, rather than allow days to go by for discussion, I just fastforward to the part after the discussion, and assuming the general-consensus was the final decision.
As for how fast you guys are going, you're going quite a bit faster than I expected, I don't mind the speed, but you only need to post 1 action a day. I'd like at least 1 action stated, discussion between the team leaves me hanging with no actions declared, so if you're doing discussion posts, you should keep posting until you decide on an action post (within 24 hours of my last post). If you've posted an Action, I won't ever make you feel like I'm rushing you. I only do that when people are sitting around discussing what to do next, and not actually doing anything.
As for waiting for everyone to post, you should never do that. I guarantee people will idle out for a day or 2 (which is why I say 5 posts a week, not 7). You should aim to be the first one to post everytime because I guarantee you this as well, half of the team is always waiting for someone else to post regardless. Most people lack the get-go to make a decision on their own without following (sorry, it's just human nature, not something to be ashamed of if you think I'm singling you out....).
Hope that helps explain a bit more how I handle things.

Reign, you forgot that the corresponging Active skill is a complementary skill to B/R skills.
If Nine can rig up the electronics, Locke can build the guns for them, and he would know where to put them for maximum effect, because of his Megacorporate Security and Military Theory knowledge skills.
Will there be knowsofts at the sports store, Sphynx? The site you linked has gigabyte (gigapulse of SR) memory cards, so...
I have a rigger contact. IF we get our security systems set up, we might want to contact him, if he's still here. Having a security rigger for the bar would make it much more safe.

I'm guessing that this mean that there will be basic drones there?
While we're at it, is there a home electronics place nearby? The sort of place that sells thing like dishwashers, clotheswashers, vacuumcleaners, etc. in the modern world? I ask because of Household Drones. Put a few weapon mounts on the things, and they could be freakin' nasty.

I meant to add an OOC apology for ramrodding action in the IC thread. And also a blanket statement that I didn't intend in the IC post to ignore or not acknowledge the other player's IC posts, but only had one post that was long as all get out to try to make something resembling reasonable out of the chaos of PbP. As I get to know you guys IC and OOC I'll start integrating better and more.
And I may be over-reacting a bit based on my experiences in another of Sphynx's games where we had a pretty timid group and the game sorta outpaced us.
After Mike's long IC post, I think he's a better candidate than either Eric or Nick for leadership. But neither I, nor Nine, could have known that. I will send Ana out on Recon as suggested - and pass out air filters to two other folks (forgot that in my IC post too).
Of note: Ana cannot share her map data without sacrificing the chip's integrity. And it's all in Russion. I forgot that little detail.
Today in my IC post I will: Make a recon sweep of the block. Acknowledge the new players and be point elf for the team headed north to Galvans. I consider the plan fluid and subject to the input of others whose posts follow. My IC posts are not sacrosanct in any manner and I will edit to fit what we ultimately want to do.

Lindt: I think we were timid. And with good reason! We didn't know what the hell was going to eat our faces off and drink our souls. Even the damn trees were dangerous. Every move seemed like a bad one. We were terrified. And that made us quick to endlessly debate and slow to action. And I was guilty, guilty, guilty.

It seems every character has ideas...Time to vote on general leader then. Also submit votes for 2 squad leaders for fire teams seems like 8 people can make 2 teams of 4 or a team of 5 and a team of 3! One should be the Attack/Defense squad, the other the scout recon squad.
I vote Mike for president.
And Myself for scout recon squad, since I got the farthest working radio range, and grapple gear.
And Locke for Attack/defense, lets face it he is our best tank!
I know we will need to give up leadership to others for different situations but that can happen once we finish recon of the block.. (that seems to be the general agreed idea)!
But for now I see mike telling us what he wants done with his block and then the 2 squad leaders picking their teams and getting it done in the field!
I am still carrying same gear as mentioned earlier ill post if I go upstairs to change my load out depending on parties actions.

Could everyone OOC post to let us know what's going on and what they want to do.
I have no idea where anyone is right now. In some posts people have left and are outside in other posts they are still inside. Some poeople are still showing up and others are ready to leave, but no one has decided on anything yet.
Sphynx has mentioned OOCly that we should head to the sportstore, and nick has brought it up ICly, but no one else has added anything yet.
Maybe we should wait until everyone posts OOCly to catch up on the storyline (so we don't have people making introductions and showing up and saluting, two real life days after everyone else has already meet up, at the same time a bunch of people are heading out to a nursing home, while others are giving longwinded speeches (that was me...), and still others are talking to family upstairs)
I think maybe Sphynx you should step in and make a big post or two, both ICly (using our characters for us if need be) and OOCly, to get things back on track.
Because right now I am all for getting things moving, but I have no idea where everyone else is at both physically and mentally. So I can't really post new actions with out knowing what is actually happening right now.

Agreed I am kinda hanging in there air with what I am doing I guess I tried to be heading away but then sparky said she stops and recons the block so I guess I stoped and waited. Every one posting how they showed up when they were all suppossed to be here already has really screwed this up in my mind... so till we get it figured out i am standing in the door way listening to the speaches and waiting..
I still think we need to vote as I proposed but we should have had this done in the first hour of the containment not the morning after... other groups are already scavenging...we already just had one vehicle destroyed...
Also he mentioned encombrance... so i guess its time to add it up p.274 shadow run core rules (my trauma damper negates the light stun wound for carrying up to 10 x my strength so 100 kg for me)
In his spare time while he is bored Nick will count the number of people in the pub and make a list of gender, race and approximate age.

I have an idea...
Everyone can head their posts with their location - if that location switches - make a new header. *off to modify my post with this stuff*
ANA IS:
- Doing recon around the block.
- Scaling the highest building she can easily climb and doing more recon.
- NOT FIGHTING THREATS - communicating them, identifying them, slipping past them.
- Coming back and heading out with the first group that wants to leave and make their way north. She'll be point - scouting ahead and relaying data.

Ok, Im going to interpose here a smidge. Partially for metagaming reasons.
We arnt a highly trained military unit. Right now we are a scared, possibly hungery, defintly tired, gaggle of semi strangers who RIGHT NOW just want to find their loved ones and see tommorow. Our PCs dont know that the QZ stays up for (how every long it stays up). Please treat it as such. Im not sure how much info has gotten out as far as WHY we are being walled in, and with what. Prehaps we should be more concerned about 'them' and not us.
That being said, as soon as Able has somewhere to drop his stuff his first goal would be assuring his own safty, so a trip to the sporting goods store would be in order. Odds are though they dont carry SMG or assault rifle ammo in stock, so his take would be fairly small.

Jun 2 2005, 08:34 PM
Lindt makes a good point that I strongly agree with. We have no idea what's going on. Most of the people here are cops who would probably be the last group to start looting the city. None of us no about bugs, or any long term threat. And since I think most of our characters are professionals (not gang members (or even shadowrunners)) we should be that last people to panic or rush into things.
Also as a side note, the first post said it was 3:00am when we met up at my place, now it is sunrise. I'm not sure what time of year it is, but I would guess sunrise is around 6am-6:30am? That means only 3- 3 1/2 hours has past since the "start." Hell, the army probably haven't even started building the wall around the zone yet. Blowing up all those building would be something we would hear (and possibly see.) No matter where we were.
Hell, most people in the city might have slept through the entire thing so far. If they went to bed at 11ish and get up at 6-7, they are only now finding out what is going on (or not finding out what is going on).

The PCs do know that "something" bad is happening. They may not know what just yet but they know enough that the military is involved in an action on domestic soil (which, while not unprecedented, is extremely rare). The PD types will know, or have heard anecdotal stories about, the rioting, looting, power outages, etc..., that goes on during such times. There is also the carving out of territories by the gangs, and power hungry.
Mallet is right about the time. It has only been three hours, not that it isn't an eternity when your family is in danger.
Sphynx: I am going to assense everyone in the group. It will give me a link and insight to the group.

Maybe i need to clarify: I have to act as a relay for any of you I can hear it clear and can send it clear..... but thats it you can't talk amongst yourselfs unless I use the conference call ability which means I got to eat some of my channels up! AND YOU CAN'T Call OUT
1)You would have to brodcast on the channel I tell you that I am monitoring
2)My comlink would mute the military hot mike jamming so I alone could hear you.
2)My comlink would mute the military hot mike jamming so I alone can send a reply to 1 of the channels I have set up as clear.
3)Since I DONT have a transducer (changes thoughts into speach and back and forth) It would take a complex action to do.
4)I have to be talking to send anything out I DONT have subdermal mike.
Things that could help that my charecter wouldn't know. ECCM, Tactical personal Communicatin gear, Comlinks, or just good old fashioned land lines... Power amplifiers aren't gonna help unless we put them on things that can clear the radio waves. A note on the ECCM the military would KNOW we are jamming there jamming and probabley not be to happy! Encryption Decryption modules might help but it would depend on if the military also has decryption encryption set up... which they probabley do good luck beating their ratings with gear we find in a sports outlet.
I think best bet is set up actual data cable land lines and try to find some tactical personal comunication gear. Then wait for them to get tired of just jamming the mics. Once that is done everyones radios and things should work like normal out to the wall, where it will be stoped dead by huge ass ECM!

I still don't understand how you can "mute" a jamming frequency, since then you would be muting the broadcasting frequency as well, but if Sphynx lets it slide then I am all good with it.
but we still can't do anything until Ana comes back or reports in on what's going on out there. Anyone got a deck of cards?

Cause the Comlink cyber ware says I can lock out channels and get rid of "audio Clutter." And they are not Jamming with ECM or they couldn't broadcast. They are using HotMikeJamming Page 85 of Rigger 3!
I assume as we get closer to the wall it may turn into barrage jamming or straight ECM WALLS
no forgot cards and duct tape when buying supplies

Small side note if they do use ECM Jamming, it includes simsense channels so smartgun links wouldn't work. And would cut down non optical vision magnification and almost any other electircal sensor stuff ie cyber eye and ear mods.

Yeah there are many players, and we post often... it's easy to get confused.
Who's where? Who's doing what? When the heck are we and what has happened?
These questions need answers. Sorry to ask Sphinx, but with the level of activity you were asking for (and which you got), we need a little bit more feedback
About Joe, I was hoping to get himt to call a few people to find out what was going on but I moved on to other stuff in IC since I didn't receive much of an answer... I felt that I had to start doing something else because you did ask us to not wait, and also because things are moving on quite fast anyways!!

There are alot of us. So, we need to establish a point of reference (ahem, Sphynx?) and go from there. And don't forget to post TIME/LOCATION stamps to maintain continuity...

Well, While we Wait lets vote on the team leader thing so we wont be in this same mess again after he brings us together. Unless you all want him to just tell us who the leaders are in his post.
Im still voting Mike for president (all matters concerning the block and our general goals as a group).
And Myself to lead recons
And Locke to lead the defense and assault forces.
Note I do expect party members to be switched at times between groups.

If we're going to have a leader of operations, then I, too, cast my vote for Mike. I don't see a need for more than one leader.

Timid was right. Of course, it would also have helped if our chosen leader had a higher posting rate.
