Since Toptomcat may not be posting any time soon, let me know when you want to move on, and I'll tell you the results of the spirit search.

Dual would certianly look up - that's the benifit of hacking in AR. I lose 2 dice, but get to see what's going on around me.... Okay, decryption it is - especially since Snapp might need that door to open sooner than later. IF I get the encryption broken, though, I'm going to wait on opening it. I wouldn't want Joe Shmoe here to see the door open magically on its own to let Snapp in, and un-stuck his coat...

I figure either the guy will be nice and open it again for him, or, more likely, he'll deduce he was trying to slip in behind him, and notice that Snapp doesn't have a card to open the door himself... and then we might have a problem - but if he goes into his apartment (to put his bags down, to call security?) or starts calling on his commlink - subtlity be damned, I'll let Snapp out.

Anyways, the steath rolls... I'll post.. um, 5... let me know if you need more (starting to regret this rolling for every action thing - but it makes sense that the longer I am in, the more likely I am to be seen).

What I'm trying to do in my IC post is make it look like I was trying to catch up to the guy to ask him how I call up to get buzzed in and at the same time relieve his fears that I'm maybe a mugger or thief or something. I mean, I don't want him to think I'm a criminal or anything. smile.gif

So do I roll another con or etiquite or both?

Decryption is a per-turn activity, rather than per-action. So each turn IC (or hot-sim hackers, or wired 2 people) will get 3 chances to detect you. That, sadly, means three rolls per turn of decrypting.

The first "combat" turn had 3 phases -- unload, load, and decrypt (for that turn) which covers your first three stealth rolls. The next turn had decrypt, and you've got 2 more phases to spend here (but decrypt can't go any faster.) Even if you don't spend those actions, though, they'll use up your next two stealth rolls. Since your first decrypt roll isn't enough to decrypt the controlls yet, I'll need [i[threep[/i] more rolls for each decrypt action.

Make an etiquette test. Technically, you really are just trying to visit someone, and trying to avoid those door buzzers is a pretty normal (if rude) practice -- it seems to fall more unter etiquette than con to me.

haha, okay, so the 5 stealth rolsl fom before covered unloading, loading, and 3 IPs worth of decryption, but it'll still probably take about 9 more IPs... can I take other actions during that time, or am I activly decrypting?

In any case, here are 9 rolls:

You can take other actions while decrypting, so long as one phase per turn is spent on the decrypting action.

Oh, and let's see... You had 5 stealth rolls from before, whic covered last turn, and part of this turn. So that first stealth roll will actually be the last one of this turn, if I am counting right.

My first pass this turn wil laslo be spent decrypting.
As for the secodn and third passes I'll ahve ot think (and refer to my book when I get home) but can I use spoof to spoof a command to the IC using this node's commlink ID, so it would be as if a authorized user had issued the command?

I believe it is hacking+spoof opposed by system+firewall (rating^2) of agent?

It'd be a risky gamble, but I'd rather call of f the dogs than jsut hide in the guard-house... cause when they finally sniff me out, the guard is right there (as if space mattered in the matrix) and this decryption will take a while.

Sorry about the delay, I really had to think about that one a bit. Here's what I've come up with. First, the text from the spoof action:

CODE

Use the Spoof Command action to transmit forged instructions
to an agent or drone controlled by another user. In order
to spoof orders, you must fi rst complete a successful Matrix
Perception Test on the persona you are impersonating in order to
gain its access ID.
To spoof commands, you must beat the agent or drone in
an Opposed Test between your Hacking + Spoof and the target’s
Pilot + Firewall. If successful, the target drone or agent believes
the orders came from its controlling persona.


It only mentions Agents and Drones, but since IC really is an agent, more or less, we can assume that means mostly the same thing. It does say you have to percieve the persona of the controller though, and you want to substitute the system node for that.

I think that will not work, and here's why. IC seem to operate pretty well autonomously in the absence of a hacker (agents too.) I don't think the system itself qualifies as a controller -- the way we've been running it, they hardly even talk. After all, that IC still had to find you through your stealth program even after the firewall detected your entry. So, I'm guessing IC just isn't under anyone's control when no one is about.

You're certain there is a troll (and some ork) gang in this part of the barrens that you've heard of, not more than about 10 minutes from where you are now. But you can't quite seem to remember what they are called or in which direction they are.

Okay, well, by default I assumed the IC would still respond to commands from whoever started them - but I guess for acutal "IC" as opposed otagents, it makes sense to have them respond to commands from no one. wink.gif

For my other two actions, I will spend one percieving the guard (seeing if it is a security rigger or more IC) and another percieving the dogs.

I think your initiative is actually 10, not 11 -- You have a -1 from that data bomb damage still, don't you? Or did you reboot a while back? (I only remember you spoofing a new ID, which doesn't clear damage)

The guard dog's first attack is clumsy -- roll response + firewall, minus the wound penalty. It only got one hit, so as long as you roll a single success, you'll take no damage.

No, you're right. I suppose rebooting would have taken about 3 seconds - so I probably should have, but since I didn't we'll go with me still having 4 damage. So yeah, 10 initiative.

I'll roll, but for future consideration, in a situation like this, could I just buy the hit?

yeah, i don't think we're going to go anywhere until the results are in anyways. May as well just wait for the spirit to get back. seems faster to just assume we spent the time coming up with less and less effective plans as time went on than to actually spend a bunch of time coming up with less effective plans =P

Should be enough to get admin access (firewall 1 + system 1 +6 for admin = 8, since she had a metalink bbefore, right?)

And with 2 dice to notice, her system would need almost all hits (and no glitches) to catch me.

As admin, I'm hoping not to have to need these... but I basically want to screen (and eavesdrop) on any calls she gets/makes as long as I'm logged in.

Currently connected to the following devices/nodes:
- Snapp's eyes
- Snapp's ears
- Spook's commlink
- My simrig
- Ida's commlink
- Castor
- Pollux
- Control Rig

So it looks like I have two connections I can still make/use.

I would then like to start a trace on the commlink ID the doctor gave us... but am going to wait for the greenlight from the team (and to reread the rules when I get home to make sure this is wise). If I'm right, it should pinpoint in a minute or two, his location (or the location of hte device running that commcode ID) to within ~50 meters... That narrows our search significantly.

However, if its a service that he logs into and checks his mail using some other commlink, it probably won't help us at all - unless I hack into that, and wait for a connection to be made.

One last thing before we leave...

Intuition + Security Proceedures to lay down some guesswork for this place's security = 6 dice:
1,2,4,3,3,6 = 1 hit. Okay, nothing great.

Also, visual perception tests for locating cameras, sensors, etc.

Will have Castor and Pollux help me out here, using teamwork rules (11 dice each)
At 11 dice, its not worth it to buy 2 successes, so I'll roll:
C: 5,6,5,2,1,1,4,5,3,3,1 = 4 hits, 3 ones
P: 2,3,5,5,4,4,4,6,5,5,3 = 4 hits

So Dual get's +8 dice to his test:
Intuition (4) + Perception (1) + Visual Enhancement (3) + Teamwork ( 8 ) = 16 dice
1,2,5,3,4,4,6,1,6,4,6,3,6,6,1,4 = 6 hits, 3 ones

Will also grab ultrasound images as we ride out to reconstruct some sort of map of the layout of the place (forwarding the input to my mapsoft).

Also as Snapp is walking out he'll be trying to take note of any security cameras, sensors, guards, and such:
1) In Ida's halway
2) In the stairwell
3) On the main floor

Intuition + Security Procedures = 7 dice
5,6,2,5,1,6,1 -> 4 successes 2 ones

If I can add my vision enhancement = 3 dice
1,1,3 -> 0 extra successes 2 extra ones (well that was helpfull sarcastic.gif )

You beat me to it, I was going to ask if it felt like Bubbles was talking to herself.

Havn't heard from the ol' Codge in a long time, and I havnt' gotten a chat-responce from Spook in a while either.

Snapp and I might call people up and request taht we reconvene somewhere to plan our next move in slightly more detail (IE, send the link-dead members off to do one thing, and get Bubbles back in the action where she belings!)

and i believe i pointed out i wasn't planning on swapping terrible ideas as part of the roleplaying... although if you want, i suppose i can sit down and think up some not-very-effective plans and we can spend some time swapping bad plans before the spirit reports back.

I hope the spirit result isn't what you are waiting on, since I posted it a week ago -- middle of page 9, IC. I assumed you weren't going to role-play an entire half-hour of bad brainstorm ideas (though the few here have been amusing) which is why I went ahead and posted it then. . .

[edit] AFAICT, Feshy, with ritual tracking and such removed from the rules (for now at least) i don't think they can track me down by the spirit, but i believe they can still get a good look at my aura from the spirit. Sorry to disapoint, but I may not be posting until the middle or end of this week.

I've met a new girl -- 6 pounds, 6 ounces of the most beautiful red-head a sleep deprived, newly minted father could ask for.

Sleep deprived? Did I mention it's been 48 hours since I've slept? Now I have.

Castor & Pollux will attempt to probe the voicemail service while we regroup (in VR, for faster times).
Dual will command them to coordinate a small group of agents (icons looking like various shadowrunners) to probe the target as a team (ideally, to speed up the process).

Program loadout (4 agents, with exploit, stealth, edit, and redirect)

They will use teamwork to find an exploit (with admin access), but this time are commanded not to use the complex action to actually log on. once a suitable exploit is found, they are to message Dual with the details, and he'll acutally perform it. Of course, I'm not sure how we ruled it last time, if the process of discovering the exploit is notable by the server or not - but since it doesnt' get to try to find the hacker until the hacker uses it, I assume not.

Power Naps. Vital. Baby sleep, you sleep. That temptation to get something done while baby sleeps. ignore it. Sleep. You got to take care of yourself so you can take care of baby.

The tough part is you can just spend hours watching them snooze, they so cute...

i'll be honest and tell you i don't have the faintest concept of what you're getting into though, so i won't even try to give you advice =P

i mean, i've got a nephew and two nieces, but that just doesn't even come close... i get the tiniest of glimpses into what your life is gonna be like in the next little while, and that's about it...

on another note, i expect we'll have lots and lots of time to think over our actions in between posts now, since i can't imagine this will result in you having more time to spend on the internet lol...

Okay, I'm back. Hopefully I'll be able to post at least reasonably regularly despite the big life changes. I've been spoiled with a great kid who's only fussy when she needs something.

The firewall only gets to roll when you log in -- but to prevent abuse of the teamwork rules, I'd let it have a single roll against EVERY agent that attacked it when it gets to roll. Otherwise, there's no drawback to "swarming" a node like that.

The book doesn't have rules for material links and the like for ritual sorcery, but I've always loved the lore that goes with them. Thus, they are still possible -- but since there aren't rules with it, I won't have it interact with the characters (if possible.) But it does still exist for plot purposes. Just something to keep in mind.

They still can't track you down by your spirit though, but yes, if your spirit was assensed in detail, they could possibly identify you through your signature, just as you said.

Well, giving the server 9 chances to notice me (at threshhold 4) means I'm almost certain to lose one of those rolls. Instead, I'll change the tactic up a little bit, and have all 8 of them do completely seperate exploits (prepare for a ton of rolls). That way, I figure at least half of them will set off alarms and be noticed, but I should have a few exploits to use that havn't been noticed too.

Normal Access, so, assuming maximum thresholds of 12
New rolls (8 dice per)

Okay, I'm lazy, I don't want to make 100s of rolls, so each agent will just buy 2 hits every hour. That should mean they all finish after about 6 hours or less.

I'm not sure what time it is currently, though, but I think that should be usable for us.

Stealth 4 on each of the agents, for when the server tries to notice. Then they message Dual and log off (hopefully no time to trace them).

Then, once I get 8 exploit details, I'll figure out how many Dual burns though trying to log in.

I had noticed, actually, how strange it was that the AR chats were private, while thoughts were public. If you all want, you can post anything your character does in "public" and leave the hassle of spoilers to GM privilaged information (that is, stuff I give.)

Snapp is going to look around for a good stake out spot, like Spook suggested, hotel, abandoned building, etc. In particular I'm looking for a place where I can see both the front entrance and parking garage entrance.
