When we bump to picking up the BTL I am going to use my Disguise skill to appear like a junkie and Etiquette (Street) to play the part for the buy.

Ecc--The info from your Mennon search is up, do you want to go ahead with the All-Father search immediately or did you have a change of plans? You had four successes on the Mennon search.
Ecclesiastes

In that case I keep searching for him until I have 5 successes. Only needing one success means I should have a lot of successes left over to shorten the time.
Info Search: 16 10 10 09 05 05 04 04 04 03 01 01 01 01
I'll then proceed with the search for All-Father, I figure I should just get it all done with now.

And away we go...
The last search on Mennon will take 3 hours. The All-father search was cut short, took about an hour.

Computer to grab as much information on the call as I can for later perusal: 5,4,2,1,9,4
And basically I'm disconnecting the trode net and analyzing the data completely visually, not jacked in at all.

I should have checked OOC first. I didn't see this. If you want, just assume that Trixie waits for everyone to get back before she makes the report.

Ecc--I don't mind at all. Your IC post basically just bumped everyone together for me.
Fenris--Test noted. Run some decryption, I presume you wanted to decrypt the file at least.
Team--Consider everyone together at the same point in time. Given all the data searchs and various other activities, we'll call it 0600 Day 2.

Computer(Programming) to break it down and see what it does:
2,5,2,1,2,2,2,3,1,7
I don't know if the Programming Suite can add it's complementary dice to something like this, since it's not exactly what it was designed for, but I figure it's a good enviornment to work with either way

If it does count, it's rating 10, and here's the dice from it:
1,2,3,1,5,3,7,,5,2,2

Cheezypoof--Thanks for the heads up! Have a good vacation and we'll see you back here on the flip side.
Fenris--The program is obviously a signature piece, custom designed. You haven't been able to reverse engineer it yet. You suspect that it will take a computer with more processing power to be able to do it in a reasonable time. Somekind of corporate mainframe perhaps...
Ecclesiastes
Aug 12 2004, 05:56 PM
w00t! Time to hack us a peice of mainframe time. Or... just for giggles, in other games I've played there are companies that have mainframes and rent time to people who want to test software on them. Do these exsist in your realm?
Ecclesiastes
Aug 12 2004, 05:58 PM
Another big question... How big is the code we're looking at (in megapulses)?
Fenris
Aug 12 2004, 06:13 PM
McQuillan - There's no mechanic for bypassing the oneshot option to make a copy so it can be analyzed without deleting itself.
Can I do it? What are the rolls?
Ecclesiastes
Aug 12 2004, 06:21 PM
If you read One-Shot on page 84, it sounds as if it can in fact be copied. If you can have multiple copies loaded into Active Memory, you can copy it from disk to disk.
BishopMcQ
Aug 12 2004, 06:56 PM
Ecc--Yes you can rent mainframe time from a company if you would like or if you have a contact with access to a mainframe you can try and get access through them--yummy etiquette skills. Let me know if you want to hack time in one, I will set up a personalized corporate compound for your running enjoyment.
The code is 3500 MPs.
Fenris--For the BTL, when you slot it in the chip reader, you will recognize that this one is not a One Shot...but yes it is possible. Computer test (Rating of Program). You will need a chip reader and a chip burner connected to your deck. Load the chip in a diagnostic mode within your programming suite and burn it.
This is somewhat ad hoc, because I cannot find anything specific.

I was using the one Jack has (checked with Fenris if he had one) and I am taking the code not the BTL to have it examined.

If Fenris doesn't reply by mid-day, should we assume that he doesn't have access to a computer at the moment and move foward? We could just assume that he meets up with me and then we move on to the Palace. A lot of what is going on with the team depends on he and I getting this done before we can move on, so I don't want to hold things up.

Deus' rampage? A little forshadowing? Could Deus Ex have made copies of himself and reemerged on the global matrix? Time will tell.
Also, have any of you heard of a program called Ntapi32d? I picked up a browser hijacking parasite, and I
think that's the executable file. I've deleted it, it's installer (I think. It was called GLA1A2B.), and another program associated with it. My browswer is still all f'ed up, and I can't fix it. The changes go into the registry, and they are reset immediately as I change them in the registry and internet options. I may have to reformat... ick.

Smilies and font buttons on this forum don't work anymore either. @#$&(#@!

Well, I've made some progress. I have determined that that file is part of a trojan called TROJ_SMALL.KQ. This little bugger has proven
very difficult to remove. I'm down to one file that I can't get rid of: mspxs32.dll.
I can unregister it in DOS, but I cannot delete it from there because access is denied. Nor can I delete it from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM because it is apparently in use, even after being unregistered and my having deleted any an all registry keys that refer to it. My browser seems to be working properly for the most part now. The font buttons and smilies work once more! It's still treating all websites as trusted sites though. Good thing is, I found a listing of the 'trusted' sites that the worm entered into my registry and made them all restricted, which turned out to be as easy as changing the key Trusted "1" to "0". MUAHAHA!
So, anyone know how to delete hidden archive files that are system .dlls that are in use?
Ecclesiastes
Aug 20 2004, 05:49 PM
Do you have a second computer? If so, just jank the drive and drop it in as a slave on the other computer, then delete it.
Have you tried renaming the file? There could be other places where the file gets called. WIN.INI for example. See if you can rename, then reboot and try to delete.

Ecc--When you analyzed the Fool you never threw me a computer test, so I presumed you were doing an "Analyze Icon" test and threw it for you. Was there a different test you wanted to do?
Ecc/Fen--YOu both have enough computer background skill to know that when the door closes on a vanishing SAN it ceases to exist on the matrix until it reopens.
