Just an interested out-game question, ingame my char will take it anyway since he doesn't know he has High Pain Tolerance 3.

Trying to use the medkit. Just knock of whatever modifiers you decide to apply.
Logic 2 + Medkit Rating 6 = 8 Dice (Yeah, that's gonna work...)
8d6.hits(5) → [1,1,3,5,3,3,2,5] = (2) 2 Hits -> No Healing
Well as expected it didn't do much.

Stephen's antique digital watch is his sustaining focus for his Increase Reflexes spell. He is casting it at Force 3 (Drain of 3).
I'm going to presume Background count is for both the Sorcery Test as well as Drain, Unless you correct me.
Increase Reflexes, Force 3: Magic 5 + Spellcasting 4 - 1 Background Count = 8 Dice.
8d6.hits(5) → [3,2,3,5,4,2,6,2] = (2) hits. Stephen gets +1 Reaction, +1 Initiative Pass.
Resisting 3S Drain: Willpower 5 + Logic 3 - 1 Background Count = 7 Dice.
7d6.hits(5) → [4,6,3,4,4,5,3] = (2) hits. Stephen takes 1S Drain.

Or worse, if he's working directly against the people who sent the team after you and is looking to set you up for a fall or recruit you to be the bait in a suicide scheme to get ahead. I'd use the light blue but I can't really see that myself -- I can barely see it when somebody's posted a link.

This update advances the timeline and changes some circumstances, like the weather and conditions. Instead of specific responses I've put in some broad strokes about where you guys are at. You all elaborate on how you imagine those particular scenes and then I'll once again incorporate all your details into my writing, like I did with your first posts in this game. The time is now 03:28 AM.
Also, don't be afraid to (ab)use your knowledge skills. If you have one you think is relevant to the scene, you can post here and say "I'd like to use X knowledge skill to figure out Y" and then roll it. The worst that could happen is you don't find any information out. (I guess unless you critically glitch, that is.

)
Also, you all have earned 3 karma. Sure some might say that's a bit much for the progress in the storyline, but fuck them. This is my game, and you folks have earned it. So take it and love it. We'll discuss spending karma when everyone has gotten enough to start spending it on stuff.

Stephen is hiding so he can see the Bouncers, but far enough way that it's difficult for them to see him.
Infiltration 1 + Agility 4 = 5 dice
5d6.hits(5) → [2,3,2,4,6] = (1) hit.
Stephen is casting Mind Probe on one of the Bouncers, Force 5
Force 5 Mind Probe: Spellcasting 4 + Magic 5 + Mentor Spirit 2 - Background Count 1 = 10 dice
10d6.hits(5) → [5,1,3,2,4,5,3,1,4,6] = (3) hits. Using Edge (2/3 remaining) to reroll failures.
7d6.hits(5) → [4,4,5,5,2,3,4] = (2) hits. 5 total hits.
Drain on Force 5 Mind Probe, 4S: Willpower 5 + Logic 3 - Background Count 1 = 7 dice.
7d6.hits(5) → [4,6,3,6,5,5,3] = (4) hits. Stephen takes no Drain.

@Stephen
Alright, I reread Mind Probe and I was incorrect about what I said previously. You can mind probe a single target within range, and the "T" refers to yourself. Hypothetically this means you can even let a mundane mind probe a target if you cast the spell on them instead of yourself.
You can indeed mind probe the guard if you are within range. However, this brings up another issue.
I'm not sure if everyone is aware of this, but Edge got hit pretty hard with the nerf bat in SR4A. The part where you can reroll all dice that didn't score a hit, that's been taken out. You can reroll all the dice in a test if you got no hits, you can add Edge to a test with exploding 6s, or you can roll just Edge after a test with exploding 6s, or a handful of other things. But the part where you roll 20 dice, get 10 hits, and then roll 10 dice for more hits, that's been done away with.
I wasn't aware of that until just earlier today, myself. It's jarring to me, but I do think it helps tone down some of the overpoweredness of Edge in that regard, seeing as that was the most common use of it. So I'm going to stick with the SR4A changes to Edge, even though this might be somewhat of a shock.
So Stephen, you can't reroll those failures. You can roll Edge and get hits and exploding 6s, or I will even say you can take the roll back and try to roll Edge before hand. Or you can just save your Edge point. I'm not going to penalize anybody for a change that wasn't made abundantly clear in the new edition.
